I do not understand how anyone can rate this place as one star. I had an absolutely phenomenal experience from my first dress appointment to my final fitting. Everyone I spoke to on the phone or in person was lovely. Deborah is a sweetheart, attentive and positive! The selection of dresses is amazing and is perfect for any body type. I live on the other side of the country and was getting married in New York and had no problem coordinating with Deborah to set up my fittings. Maria worked on my alterations and did a phenomenal job, the dress fits perfectly. I would recommend them to anyone. read more

Really loved the service I received here. Dina was my consultant and made buying my wedding dress such an easy process. There was a sale going on that I luckily heard on the radio, and I went to ONLY try on dresses because this was my first time trying anything on, and my wedding was a little less than a year away...however the 3rd dress I tried was the one I fell in love with. Dina, noticing I felt uncomfortable finding a dress so soon, eased my mind by letting me try on other style dresses so that I could feel confident I found the right one. She told me to take some time and to sleep on my decision. Luckily my dress was still there the next day and I went and bought the most beautiful dress :) Dina was so sweet and really made me feel important through this process. I went here for their sample sale and had a great experience. I was kind of dreading the appointment because of the many negative-terrible reviews on here. My consultant reached out to me a few days in advance to ask about my budget, where my venue will be, and the kind of styles I was looking for, which I appreciated. My appointment started just on time. I didn't really know what I was looking for, but my consultant remained patient with me through all the indecision. She listened to what I had to say about each dress and ended up picking out the one that I liked the best. Though we made an hour long appointment, I tried on dresses for over an hour and a half and didn't feel rushed at all. I also enjoyed having the privacy of having a whole corner of the store to myself, which I hear not all dress shops offer. I will say that the cleaning and alterations services seem very pricey. Cleanings are regularly priced at $400 and alterations start at $750. I think that's kind of ridiculous. read more

I purchased my dress and a veil, over a year ago, with the intent to get married in May 2020. Unfortunately the COVID-19 pandemic hit, and we have now had to postpone the wedding two more times. Elizabeth Johns informed me this fall they can no longer hold onto the dress or veil, it will have to be held by me until I bring it back for alterations when the time comes. My now husband and I decided to tie the knot in a small ceremony in August, and we plan to hold the bigger, original "wedding" when permitted. I will wear my original dress purchased at Elizabeth Johns for that event. My now mother-in-law, who is near and dear to my heart, passed away one week ago from complications after open heart surgery. She was too ill to attend the small ceremony in which we got married in August, and will now never be able to see us walk down the aisle. I understand Covid-19 been a trying time for the entire world and affected each and every person, including many businesses. I'm sure a lot of business has been lost or halted. But I am utterly appalled Elizabeth Johns refused to allow me to return my veil, when I explained to them how my mother-in-law just passed away, and it's very important to me and my husband that I wear her veil from her wedding 46 years ago. The responses I received were "well luckily your style veil is very popular, so you can probably sell it" and "unfortunately, we have a very strict no return policy". But to call this an extenuating circumstance would be an understatement. Policies have been tweaked and flexed before, and any store owner or manager has the capability to do so. It is frightening to see such lack of empathy or moral character. To say I am hurt can not even begin to describe. I have dedicated my career as a nurse at one of the largest hospitals in Chicago, on the front lines, caring for covid patients practically every single day. And I do it because I'm a human and I care. I expected to see that level of care reciprocated when I provided Elizabeth Johns with this heartfelt explanation as to why I would like to return the veil and wear my mother-in-laws. Yet I was simply overlooked and dismissed, no ifs ands or buts. read more

I first visited Elizabeth Johns when my Maid of Honor was getting married a few years ago. I loved the environment so much that I knew it would be one of the places I would go to when it was my turn to walk down the aisle.  The interior is light, bright and makes you feel like a bride even before trying on any dresses!  I didn't find anything that I loved at my first appointment at Elizabeth Johns but Deborah, my consultant, called a few days later to let me know of an upcoming trunk show that she thought I would love and she was SO spot on! Deborah was amazing at understanding my style and helping me narrow down my choices to end up with a dress that was absolutely perfect for me. I also looked forward to seeing Deborah at my fittings - she was genuinely excited to be part of the process. The dress also fit like a glove and alterations that I was hoping to make exceeded all of my expectations! It was a bit nerve wrecking to say yes to a dress that was so large on me when I first tried it on but with every fitting that I had, I felt reassured that it was going to be perfect - and it was. I couldn't have felt more comfortable and confident wearing my dress.  Thank you Deborah and Elizabeth Johns! I look forward to bringing back every bride that I know! read more

the only reason I'm selecting 1 star is because a zero isn't an option. this place is an absolute scam. if you do decide to go there after reading this review, make sure you tell their consultants (who are terrible) that you refuse to buy the size they recommend. they without fail recommend almost 3-4 sizes LARGER than you actually are. so you end up having to go there for alterations and spending $300 plus on a $250 dress. they will fight with you to get a bigger size. I am always a size 2-4. this lady legit made me order an EIGHT!!! my friend who is an 8 she made buy a 14!!! they are the absolute worse. my best friend called them to nicely make them aware of the issue which appears to be a pattern and the owner was extremely rude and didn't care at all. I live in Morristown and am a 2024 bride and believe me I will make sure no one goes to this place. read more

I was so excited to come here to find my wedding dress. my consultant was amazing; I found my dream dress that was in the store for a sample sale and everything was perfect. then came the alterations...or really lack there of. my first fitting I was very clear what with what needed to be done, and we agreed my next appointment would be a final fitting and I would take the dress with me Vera did maybe half of the alterations by that next appointment, and most of them were not what I asked for. she argued with me as well as my mother and sister telling us our opinions were wrong. the manager got involved and assured us everything would be done to our liking by my wedding, which was a few weeks away. day of my wedding the top didn't fit at all; the most interesting and flattering part of the dress gapped and crumpled so all of my photos looks like I have a scalloped ruffle top when it was supposed to be square neckline that sat flat. My bustle Broke after my first dance with my husband. paying as much as we did for terrible alterations was soo not worth it. They also ruined my cousins veil for her wedding and ordered the wrong length dresss for my sisters wedding. Go somewhere else. read more

The only star I give is for their inventory and salon appearance. I must say they have a beautiful salon and it was nice being able to shop the racks as well as having consultant pick dresses. That is probably where I end the positive and start with the negatives. I was not the bride and almost left in tears. My best friend went shopping for her dress for the first time and is by all means not big at all. We all know bridal gowns run small so why are all your sample sizes in the salon so small? I work in fashion, in special occasion to be specific so I know how this works. Our country's national average size is a 12/14, and it is far more easier to clip dresses in to get a proper look. Needless to say my friend found dresses she loved but could not get because she was not able to try them on her body to get a proper look - so like any normal human being who would by a dress they could not see on their body. OH but it gets worse. After my friend finds the dress she loves but can not fit in she goes and grabs another consultant with a gorgeous body, introduces us to her as "their designated skinny girl" to try on the dress for my friend...consultant, stunning and no offense to her at all. I just felt insulted for my friend and found it very unprofessional to even suggest such a thing. All I know is in my business we provide a range of sample sizes, and would never in my wildest dreams suggest a client watch another, slimmer woman try on their dream dress for them. Instead, how about carrying more realistic samples -- for the future, if a dress cannot fit your size 4 mannequins, chances are they will not fit a real woman with a bust or hips. I think your consultants need to be more considerate and think twice before speaking, what if my friend suffered from an eating disorder? I myself left feeling terrible so imagine how my poor friend feels right now. I will never recommend your staff to anyone I know. read more

I was able to get an appointment quickly (on a Saturday during COVID!), she pulled dresses quickly based on my style, and she was prompt in her follow up after the appointment. This is a beautiful bridal salon to try and find the dress of your dreams at. EJ has a very specific price range of dresses they offer, so I suggest you view their website prior to making an appointment to ensure they are within your budget. I don't think they carry any dresses under $1,500 that are floor-length and alterations are a flat rate of $500. I visited EJ after trying on about 20 dresses at two other salons. I found a Pronovious dress at EJ on my first appointment, but was having reservations about it. My consultant Dina (who is now the manager, and the most kind, patient, and sweetest women you will EVER meet), didn't pressure me to make a purchase that day. Instead, she suggested I make a second appointment and come back for a Lela Rose trunk show in a few weeks so I could try on Rose's "The Hillside" dress, which I had found online. When my mother, sister and I arrived for my second appointment, the second they saw the dress on the hanger, they knew it was going to be "my dress". I hesitated (based on the price tag), but after trying it on, the Lela Rose "The Hillside" dress with black-stitching was indeed THE dress. Purchasing, as well as alterations at EJ's was very easy. They offer a payment plan of-sorts, where you pay an initial deposit and then the remaining balances during your alterations appointments. While the flat-rate alterations fee may seem a little steep, I assure you, EJ's seamstresses are masters of the craft, and Maria (who altered my dress) is a perfectionist who made sure the dress fit perfectly in our three sessions together. I also got my hair piece and earrings from the designer Maria Elena through a trunk show at Elizabeth Johns. EJ is very specific in the quality of product they offer their brides, while still ensuring a variety of styles and silhouettes. I would highly recommend shopping here if it's in your budget, and try to make an appointment with Dina if she still does consulting! read more

I cannot believe the incredibly rude encounter I just had with Melinda, the owner of this salon. In December, I ordered a very pricey ($450) flower girl dress for my daughter, which arrived in March for a May wedding. We went in for my daughter's fitting on March 11th and paid $100 up front for alterations. A few days later the world shut down for coronavirus and my brother decided to postpone his wedding until August, so I immediately called EJ to try and stop the alterations on the dress, as I wanted to be sure the dress would still fit in August. After checking with the seamstress, the woman on the phone assured me the dress had not yet been touched and she would put a note on it to hold off until our next fitting, which we scheduled for July. Unfortunately, in June, my brother's wedding was officially canceled for good. I called EJ and asked if the dress could be returned since the alterations had not been done. They explained the strict no return policy, which I accepted, as I had signed it when I purchased the dress. I was in the area today, and finally had some time to pick up the dress. When I went in, I explained to the women at the desk that I understand there are no refunds on the dress, but asked if it would be possible to refund the alteration fee of $100 since the work hadn't been done. When the woman brought the dress upstairs for me, she apologized and let me know that the alterations had, in fact, already been done, so she didn't think she could refund the cost. Once again, I explained that I had called a week after our appointment in March and was told they were not yet done and was assured that they would hold off until the next fitting. The woman called the seamstress who said no one ever told her not the alter the dress. They asked her when she did the work and she couldn't remember. Once again, I calmly explained my situation, so the women up front called the owner, Melinda, to come upstairs. This is where the experience turned sour. Melinda came up and said, with obvious intent to argue, "I understand you have an issue." I explained the situation and Melinda rudely responded, "Well, the work's been done so what do you want me to do about it?" Again, I let her know that I had called and was told the work had not been done and had asked to stop it. Melinda asked who I spoke to and I wasn't sure of her name. So she condescended to me, saying, "So, you don't know who you spoke to? It couldn't have been that important if you didn't get a name. I would've asked for a name and a confirmation email if something was important to me." I was taken aback and said, "I'm sorry. I'm not lying to you about this. I just trusted your people to actually do their job. I'm not sure why this is such an issue. I am not arguing about not being able to return the dress. But now I'm stuck with a $450 dress with a $100 alteration fee that my daughter isn't even going to wear." She looked at me coldly and responded, "So? I have women who have spent thousands of dollars in here and I can't help them either." I stayed calm and said, "As the owner of a business myself, I know everyone is losing money right now. Things are tough. But this is not the way to keep customers. I think you should be working with me on an acceptable resolution." She said, "I'm not going to engage in this anymore. We will give you back the $100." I thanked her and she started to go back downstairs, then turned back and said, "What business do you own?" I then told her the name. She asked me to repeat it and then snidely remarked, "Ok, I'll remember that...because I'm going to go write it down." Well, Melinda, I hope you enjoy this review. I'm going to be sure to write it down in as many places as possible, in the hopes that others will be forewarned of the rude and nasty owner they will deal with if they have any issues at all with their experience at your salon. read more

I purchased my bridesmaids dress from Elizabeth Johns via email back in November. I was told based on my height that I would need extra length (I'm 5'9"). Keep in mind, I've been in 5 weddings and have never needed extra length mostly because I don't wear heels. I mentioned this back in Nov to Kelly and Rachel who I had exchanged emails with that I didn't think extra length was necessary especially because I don't wear heels. I have an email saying this. It's also an additional $25 on a $275 dress. I reluctantly said OK after I was persuaded by both Kelly and Rachel to purchase the additional length. Flash forward to present day (March) and I go to pick it up and try on my dress at my home. As I had initially thought, it's 6 inches too long!! I immediately called Elizabeth John's and they told me there was nothing they could do and that I could bring the dress back in for $150 alteration. I sent Kelly and Rachel an email and Rachel called and left me a VM. I called her the next day and explained to her the issue. She told me the owner would be calling me. I still have not heard from her and based on some of these reviews, I don't think I will be! Do NOT buy your dresses from here. Horrible customer service and trying to squeeze every last dime out of you. EJ staff - I'm getting married in July of next year and was considering your shop for my dress and bridesmaids dresses. I will be taking my business elsewhere that's for sure. David's Bridal had better customer service than this place. read more

UPDATE: In response to the comment from the owner, as I explained In my review, my negative experience from the shop was not at all that the price couldn't be lowered--I said multiple times that I understand that they have to act in the best interest of the business with regard to pricing. It was the condescension of the manager and the fact that we were snubbed as we left (it wasn't addressed that nobody said goodbye or even acknowledged us as we left) that sparked this critical review. If the experience had been pleasant, we would've bought the dress at the higher price--I just could not see giving business to a store that treated us this way. -------------------------------------------- Two stars because the salon is nice! I have to echo some of the other reviews on here. Things started out well when I visited during a sample sale this past summer. My consultant at that time pulled a great dress that I liked a lot but I was hesitant to buy given that this was my first time shopping and my wedding would still be two years away. She said if I didn't buy it during the sample sale, I'd miss the opportunity to have it because they'd be sending it out because "it's too old for us to hold onto anymore". She also gave me good advice to not go shopping again until I'd actually consider buying a dress--ie when I'm closer to my wedding date. Many months later, I'm looking online at dresses and notice it's still listed on the website. Great! I booked an appointment to try it on again. My consultant Dina was running late so after waiting over time, someone else offered to help us. We explained to the manager, Kiera, that we wanted to buy it but hoped they could accommodate us at the sample sale price since the dress was three years old, the glitter was falling off the arms, there was a rip in arm, and because we would be bringing more business along with us--wedding party, mothers' dresses, and grandmothers' dresses. She gave us an explanation that she could absolutely not do it, because it was a "current dress" (which made it clear that the previous consultant lied about it being on its way out to pressure me to buy it the first time). Of course, the business has every right to sell at whatever price they want and they don't need to honor a past deal, but I really felt uncomfortable doing business in a salon where someone had intentionally been deceptive to try to make a sale. There was no apology for that previous shady behavior and on top of that, the manager's explanations felt a little condescending. Afterward when I was removing the dress in the dressing room, I felt so uncomfortable from the whole interaction that I wanted to melt into the floor--to be in just a pair of underwear in front of someone who just was condescending made me feel so naked and bad. The worst was that after that, everyone turned away from us and scattered from our dressing room area--nobody said goodbye or even acknowledged us as we left. It was so shockingly rude, I couldn't believe it was happening. I just feel like you should try to be magnanimous, no matter the outcome of an appointment. I'd totally understand if you can't sell at a certain price, but be sweet when you explain, and know that even if a sale doesn't happen, you can be kind as people leave and say goodbye! The next day, my mom wanted to distract me from the really upsetting experience/snubbing we experience at Elizabeth Johns, so she booked me an appointment at a different salon in Chatham. I found a beautiful Berta gown there with the help of the most sincere consultant who made sure to help me get my dream dress at a price I could feel good about. Based on other reviews, it seems like my experience with rudeness isn't a one off. If you don't want to roll the dice that you're going to get amazing customer service no matter the situation, I'd opt for one of the other amazing salons in the. I would give a big red X if I could, instead of a star. Didn't even get to the store before figuring out how correct the reviews are and why this store has terrible ratings. My sister booked an appointment for my dress shopping weekend and had a set appointment for 10am on a Saturday. She even spoke to someone over the phone and gave credit card information for saving the appointment. Needless to say we received a confirmation email with our 10am appointment confirmation. After that we received a Google calendar invite email from EJ for a 2pm appointment. This should have been the first red flag. My sister said no big deal she will call them to confirm its the 10am because we had other appointments in the afternoon and didn't want to take the chance. Needless to say my sister called today and got the rudest person over the phone. My sister explained the appointment/email situation and within the conversation my sister identified how excited I was to try on dresses for my wedding. The woman continued to ask "wait, has she ever tried on before?" My sister was confused but answered and said "we are dress shopping at a couple locations this weekend to find the dress for her wedding" EJ rep then proceeds to say "so this is an inexperienced bride? Does she even know what she wants?" Again, my sister nicely explained that she has never tried on dresses before since this is the first time I am getting married. EJ rep "I'm sorry, we can only book weekend appointments for experienced brides, your sister would have to come during the week to try on if she's inexperienced" WHAT IS AN INEXPERIENCED BRIDE? Am I seriously understanding that they only serve brides that have been married before? What soon to be bride really knows what they want before they try on? For heavens sake, you may know what you want but it may look terrible on you. My sister canceled the appointment. It's so great to know that bridal shops now a days are so selective that they feel it is ok to discriminate against new brides! AMAZING! read more

Can't say enough good things about Elizabeth John's! I took my mom here to find a MOB dress and left after our first appointment with one. The girls were so nice and accommodating, we even were running late because my moms car wouldn't start and we had to wait for triple A to come. They were able to push our appointment back and let us come in when it was fixed. When we finally found the dress, Tiffany even offered us champagne to celebrate! I would definitely recommend this place to others searching for bridal gowns, BM and MOB dresses. read more

However, Renee immediately made me feel comfortable and assured me that sizing wasn't an issue. I went to look for my wedding dress over the summer here and was beyond disappointed. So disappointed that I almost yelped right away but decided to wait to see if I still felt so upset and angry after a few months.....and I am. My mom and I went on a Sunday and were very excited because prior to the appointment the stylist called asked a whole bunch of questions, seemed to genuinely care and we genuinely felt that I would have found my dress there. She asked for my budget prior to the appointment and I told her it was $3,000 but flexible if the dress was perfect. At that point she didn't say it was too low or that there would have been nothing available-quite he contrary, she sounded confident in that they had something for me. When we got there, she asked for my budget again and I told her again what it was to what she stated that there were not really any dresses in the styles I wanted within my budget. My mom and I both told her to not worry about the price. But she continuously brought it up. We continuously told her to not worry about it, but she clearly was not listening. I felt that she was trying to blow us off and that she thought we weren't serious about buying there. Then when I finally got into a fitting room to try on 2 dresses, the customer service got beyond bad. She disappeared for over 10 minutes to go look for what she thought was the perfect dress- or so she said. When she came back the dress was a dark ivory which is fine for some people, but not what I had asked for. She went on to say that the dress was a $6000 dress on sale for $3000 and I would be missing out by not buying it. I told her it wasn't what I wanted and my mom told her she really pictured me in a white dress. She told my mom that they did not have any WHITE dresses in the entire store . That was when I knew that she didn't care about finding me the right dress or about my experience. I understand that there isn't that many white wedding dresses and that the bridal industry uses ivory most of the time- I ended up buying a light ivory dress- but you have got to be kidding in responding like that. She again left. Leaving me in the dress for what felt like forever and came back with nothing. I quickly got dressed and almost in tears started making my way out of the shop. My mom pointed out another dress and she said "tell your mom that's an $8,000 dress." She even suggested we check other bridal salons. At one point she told us to go to Pronovias in NYC and then order the dress through Jahee bridal in nj EVEN THOUGH Pronovias is carried at Elizabeth Johns. We just told her thank you and left in disbelief The entire drive home and for the next few days, I was just so upset about how dismissive, rude and how ignorant she was helpIng us. I ended up buying my dress at my budget somewhere else from a designer that Elizabeth Johns carries. I have never been more disappointed in a shopping experience in my entire life and have still not figured out why we received such bad customer service. Was it because it was a Sunday and the stylist didn't want to be there? Was it because my mom speaks broken English? I truly wouldn't want anyone to feel as bad as I did trying to buy a wedding dress at Elizabeth Johns. This experience should be memorable for positive reasons not negative ones and no matter where you go shopping if you are willing to spend hard earned money on your wedding dress, as a bride you should feel like and be treated like a princess. As i read the rest of the reviews, I seriously wish I could provide EJ with a much better review and rating than the one I am about to provide. Although the 1 star, i must address that i had very good experience in the beginning of my wedding dress hunt. The end was an absolute disaster. EJ was the second salon that i went to check out dresses as a recommendation from one of my mom's co-workers. Deborah helped me that Saturday afternoon and she could not have been any more lovely. She was patient, listened to every want, pulled some wonderful dresses, and not at all pushy. I wish you could provide employees with stars because she would get all of them while others would get negatives. She gave me some wonderful advice that i always relay to my friends and that is to "always try a dress on even if you don't think you will like it because you will just never know". And she was right! We found 'the one' and life couldn't be better. I was adamant about the dress having to be in white as culturally it was very important for my family; Deborah said she would make sure with the designer, talk with the manager, and specifically wrote in the order form/contract that the dress will come in white. Great, signed the papers and all good to go. Well 3 months before our wedding, the dress came in...in ivory. At this point i was dealing with their very cantankerous manager who tried to tell me that the dress never came in white. At this point, i was calm and collected, but i knew my mom was going to lose her $*&# given the importance of a white dress. The manager gave me options of a new dress and i can appreciate that they tried, but in the end they messed up. I remember the designer working with us diligently and had put something together that i just didn't like, and the manager saying "But I think its lovely." At this point i was dumbfounded. She should realize that its not about what she likes or thinks looks good its what the BRIDE wants. In the end, they scrambled with the designer to get something together for me. They had a new dress together in the similar style of the dress i chose, but with completely different details and lace. Even though they (mostly the designer) came through, it comes down to not being the dress that i wanted, it was not what i originally chose and was certainly not the details that i loved. In other words it was not the dress that i fell in love with. At that point, i was just happy that i had a dress i could walk down the aisle in that i thankfully didn't hate, but didn't love. And Brides, you should ADORE your wedding dress! I won't even go into the details of the fitting. Yes, the dress fit, but it didn't fit perfectly. As you can imagine with a 1.5 month time period there was really not much that could be done and I appreciate the seamstress for trying. OH and to make it better, they didn't do ANYTHING to make up for the fact that i had received the wrong dress. Not even taking into consideration and attachment that one gets when finding the right dress. To them, it was in the mentality of 'as long as we don't lose any money even though we completely messed up, its fine' and 'well she has a dress now that she likes our hands are clean'. I really didn't understand it, because where was the costumer service? Where was the 'we feel bad' we need to do something extra. There was absolutely none of it. read more

Why open up a shop if you don't understand that you're serving a customer that is paying you money to keep your business operating. Without customers you have nada. Who needs Kleinfeld's when you have Elizabeth John's??? ... seriously! I went to Kleinfeld's and a few other dress shops for my friends' weddings, and I was so pleasantly surprised with my experience at Elizabeth John's. It truly stood out from every other Bridal Shop I've been to. First off, the shop is absolutely stunning. The interior is gorgeous and so spacious! We had our own, designated space to try on dresses and were not on top of other brides & families or getting stared at by a ton of people in the shop. Because of this, my experience felt very intimate and special. We were lucky enough to have Deborah as our Bridal Consultant. Not only did I love Deborah, but my mom, sister, mother-in-law and sister-in-law absolutely adored her as well. I didn't make my final decision until my second visit to Elizabeth John's, and when I told Deborah on my first visit that I wanted some time to think about my decision, she was incredibly understanding, supportive and the OPPOSITE of pushy. I got so much out of my visits - Deborah had me try on so many different styled dresses, that I felt SO confident when I finally said "YES!" Speaking of saying "YES!" to the dress .. Elizabeth John's provides a bottle of champagne for you and your guests to celebrate!! I absolutely fell in love with my dress, and I couldn't have done it without Deborah. Rina was a life saver and heaven sent! My seamstress injured herself over the summer, so Rina had to take on her workload (on top of her own) - seriously, this woman deserves a nice raise or bonus!! My dress had lace and beading, and Rina did such a flawless job with the difficult alterations. I could not believe how incredible my dress looked on the day of my final fitting, and I am so thankful for Rina. Here's a review you're not going to want to scroll over! I live an hour away....it is beyond worth the trip! When I called to make the appointment, Tiffany was given to me by chance a few months back with my bridesmaid dresses. She is beyond patient, kind, professional and immediately I felt like she was family. I got my 11 brides maid dresses from her. Fast forward a couple months i made an appointment with Tiffany to look for my wedding dress and I said yes to the dress! So far in the process, I can't find a bad thing to say about EJ. I have enjoyed my interaction with everyone I've been in contact with over the last few months ordering both my wedding dress and my bridesmaid dresses in their salon. They are professional, knowledgeable, and offer a great selection of dresses. I specifically loved the Bridal Sip & See event they had a few months back where I not only won a free engagement shoot by my now wedding photographer, but ordered my dress the same night. Picked store due to great reviews I intended to buy from them when dress was in stock.1 day prior to appt I requested 3 dresses to try on.They had 0 of the 3. Told her I will reschedule when in stock. They charged $25 cancel fee.I called thinking it was in error. She only remembered the call but not the rescheduling part.This was my first time there. I went here with my sister (future bride) and two of her bridesmaids to find bridesmaid dresses. The store is gorgeous and spaceous and has a pretty good selection for what we were looking for. HOWEVER, the service was not great at all. The girl who was supposed to be helping us during our appointment was still with her last appointment, so someone else assisted us in starting our search. When she finally was done, some other woman came to her and started complaining about something and she was away for nearly half of the remaining time of our appointment. When asked to see their accessories after we were done, they directed us upstairs where there was no one at all to help us. My sister was very unhappy with the experience. Needless to say we went elsewhere. For the type of store it is, they should really know how to cater to brides and their big day. I cannot imagine how many customers they miss out on for their lack of customer service. Just something to keep in mind- they only had a couple of dresses for plus-size women to try on. I never have written a review in my life but I am actually going to take the time to write this one. I wish I couldn't give this place even one star. My sister, Mom, and I were treated awful at this place. Staff was very rude and we waited 15 minutes for our consultant. Finally started trying on dresses and after my second one I was being rushed out the door. I was told I could try on one more dress and if i didn't like it I'd have to come back and make another appointment. I was so excited to be getting married and I couldn't wait to try on dresses and this place ruined my experience and made me feel disgusted. The reviews on this page made me so nervous about shopping here but I had such a great experience!! My consultant was super great - she emailed me prior to my appointment asking me if I had any pictures or any ideas on what I wanted. She really did her homework because she already knew what I was looking for before I walked in the door (made my appointment much more efficient). She listened and stayed within my budget (which isn't high at all). The salon is beautiful and well kept and they allow you to shop around and pull the dresses you want. This was my first time trying on dresses so she pulled all different kinds of shapes for me to make sure I narrowed down what I liked. The only negative thing is that they don't have a huge selection of dresses but they seem to have a style for everyone. I would recommend this place! read more

Forgot to mention that my consultant was telling me because I am tall (5'9", not crazy tall), I will probably have to order additional length for an additional fee. 1. Stay Away!!! DO NOT go to this place unless you want to be disrespected, and waste your money. Worst experience ever, they will promise you the world to get you in the door but will not honor any other promises. Unfortunately I was stuck with this place as I already paid for my dress. From the front desk girl to consults, specifically Deborah, managers and the owner Melinda all are absolutly rude! All they want is money and they don't even bother to provide the services they promised. I was not even notified when my dress arrived at the salon, and had to wait for my vail (which mind you was made in house) another week. They all promise to follow up with you and no one ever dose. Managers and the owner is never available so you are stuck dealing with front desk staff which isnt any better. When I went to pick up my dress they were trying to force me sign the acknowledgment form of the pick up without letting me look at my dress. Once I opened the gown to try it (Brand New gown that I paid close to 8K for) it had damage on it and dirt. No one cared that the dress is ruined and did not offer a solution or try to fix the situation. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE do not waste your money or energy on them. There are plenty of other places in the area that offer great services and delver what they promised. HORRIBLE, NASTY, RUDE!!! I have never dealt with a merchant like this. read more

If you're a bride-to-be with a plan to visit multiple bridal salons, I recommend you start your dress hunt somewhere else. Only because a visit to and an appointment at Elizabeth Johns (EJ) will set your bridal salon expectations high. The EJ store is beautiful. It is spacious and decorated sophisticatedly with calming colors. Also, the house-turned-boutique has large windows throughout that brought in natural light and, in my opinion, made my wedding dress shopping a pleasurable experience. In addition to their facility is their great staff. They're friendly and knowledgeable. Dina was my sales associate and her years in the bridal industry shows through her style of working with you and ability to recommend dresses. Through her listening to my likes/dislikes, I was able to find a dress. However, I went with another dress that still met my wants but didn't exceed my budget. Which leads me to the reason why I only gave EJ four stars. EJ has a great dress selection but it seems that most of their offering is priced at $2,000 or more. So for any brides with a $2,000 or less dress budget, you may leave EJ with only a heartbreak. On top of the dress' price is EJ's flat $500 fee for basic alterations plus any other applicable charges - i.e. $120 for a shorter/longer dress; $200 for a dress sized 18+. But if you don't have to worry about staying with a budget, I highly recommend EJ. P.S. Definitely make an appointment. And, if you're able, make your appointment for a weekday - you will more than likely have the store to yourself and will make your appointment even more pleasurable. Happy dress shopping! read more

I actually didn't read the reviews before I went to Elizabeth Johns, and I'm glad I didn't because I don't think three stars is a fair rating AT ALL for the amazing service and experience I had at EJ! I am compelled to balance the negative reviews with my amazing experience, so here it goes: I went to three bridal salons in the Morristown area to find my wedding dress, two before EJ and EJ as the last stop (because I found my dress there!)...what I liked about this store was: - Incredible natural lighting - so important to get a good picture and a good idea of what the dress will look like on your day - You can pull your own dresses and see the entire inventory - I went on a weekday and it was fairly calm and serene, a relaxed environment - I worked with Deborah, who was extremely helpful but not pushy or overbearing The entire staff was kind and helpful and when I did try on the dress I ended up choosing, I didn't feel pressure to buy it on the spot. I was able to take pictures and have time to think about it before I went back the next day to make the purchase. When I did go back, they served us champagne to celebrate and even gave me a handmade garter as a small gift. All in all, I think EJ is a wonderful place to find your wedding dress. A couple of additional comments: - This is NOT a 10-person entourage "say yes to the dress" kind of place - it has a more intimate and smaller store vibe and if you're looking for a loud and busy place Kleinfeld-esque store, I can see how people might mistake it for stuffy (which I really disagree with). I had two other people with me and it was perfect. - Yes, the price points are higher, with dresses starting at $2000, but the selection really seems to be bigger once you get into the $2500 range and up. When we booked the appointment, they told me this, so I knew what to expect and I had a flexible budget. I just picked up my wedding dress from Elizabeth John's and I am so happy and excited to get married in one week!! Their seamstress, Rina did an amazing job on my dress. It is absolutely perfect. She is so sweet and talented. My bridal consultant Deborah was also wonderful to work with. From the initial phone call up to my final fitting was an extremely enjoyable experience. I always felt very special when I walked in the door. The store as a whole was a fun shopping experience, I never felt overwhelmed. They have a wonderful selection of all types of wedding dresses. After visiting at least 5 different bridal salons, I just purchased my dress from EJ this weekend! Woohoo! I came in from Philly, and I was so impressed with the quality of service I received, and I attended fittings at the Morristown location twice! Deborah was my consultant and she was AWESOME! Even before the fitting, she called to confirm my budget and wanted to make sure that the gowns I was interested in trying were within that, which I REALLY appreciate! A few of the other salons I went to did NOT do that, they put me in gowns outside of my budget and then I had to go through a 'breakup period.' :) Another SUPER KEY distinguishing point about what sets EJ aside from other salons is the quality of their gowns....The quality was absolutely incredible. Far superior to many of the other department store and boutique shops I'd been to. It's important to note that those gowns were priced much higher than what I was able to find at EJ, I'm talking thousands more for poor workmanship...(makes you think twice about how skewed the wedding industry is). For me, quality was more important than style. And, I found both at EJ! A second point is that I am not a thin woman. I'm a 10/12 and this dress try-on experience over all has been very stressful. We all know that the sample sizes aren't made for fuller women, and many of the dresses aren't meant to provide support that fuller busted / fuller bodied women need. While EJ did have some dresses that didn't fit me, like every other salon I visited, they did have quite a few that did in the styles that I wanted to try. That was a HUGE win. I really was blown away by Deborah and just how sweet and helpful she is. She takes her job VERY seriously, and you can really tell that she loves what she does! I am not sure how these other reviewers can rate EJ and the service poorly. Maybe they're bridezillas? If you're an easy going person, and don't sweat the details, but care about receiving kind service and honest opinions on budget, looks, accessorizing, timelines...the works! I do not normally leave reviews, but after reading some bad ones about this store I felt compelled to share my great experience here. When searching for my gown I came across EJs as I was looking at other stores in Morristown. From the second I walked in I was impressed by how beautiful and clean the store was. My consultant was Dina, who was absolutely amazing! She listened to what I was looking for and never gave me a hard time about my budget, which I believe was pretty average. She brought me many dresses to try on and I happened to find one on the rack I had to try on first and that was the one. Dina was great in helping me accessorize and was never pushy or forced me to get out of the dress once I knew it was the one. She let me take in the experience and fully enjoy it. The best part of my experience with EJs was the alteration process with Rina. I CANNOT say enough great things about her work! Not only is she talented and great at what she does, she was able to read me and any hesitations I was having that she worked with me to get the perfect fit for my dress. Even when I called after one of my appointments with second thoughts on an alteration, she was very calming, flexible and reassuring that she made the whole process stress-free. HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER! Overall, I had a wonderful experience. Customer service was always great for me whenever I called to make an appointment or was in the store. I cannot say enough good things about Dina and everybody at Elizabeth Johns. They listened to what I wanted and pulled dresses accordingly. Some of my ideas worked and others did not. Through the eyes of knowing what I wanted, Dina was able to give me thoughtful feedback. Even the dresses that we decided didn't work for me were still so very beautiful and made me really feel like Dina "got me." The boutique is very well stocked, and stocked with higher quality items than some of the huge bridal stores. I recommend that all brides come here for a pleasant, low-pressure experience.
