I'm extremely disappointed with the experience my best friend had. She was given an appointment at a location that isn't even open yet. We showed up at the address provided, only to find out the store wasn't operating there. When we tried calling to figure out what was going on, no one answered the phones. I drove two hours to be there for what was supposed to be a special bridal appointment, and the entire day was disrupted because of this mistake. What's most frustrating is that there was no real accountability or effort to make up for the inconvenience. Wedding dress shopping is supposed to be a meaningful experience. Get your dress anywhere else. I have never written a review like this before and truly wish I could be mote positive, but I honestly had a such negative experience with this bridal shop every step along the way. In hindsight, I would have saved hours of my time, thousands of dollars, and so much stress if I purchased elsewhere. The communication was extremley poor (and at times uncomfortable/ unprofessional). Anything done in-house will take 10x longer than they tell you, and the estimated timelines are usually off by months. I ordered my dress October 1st 2023 and have just received the last bit of my order (custom sleeves from EJ Seamstress) today, September 6, 2024. My wedding is next month. First, my consultant ordered the incorrect lace ($1k) for this custom work (another $1k), so I had to order another $1k of the correct fabric; she also tried to gaslight me and force me into getting in-house alterations even though I live out of state and explicitly said I would not be doing this, sent the fabric lace to the wrong address, and incorrectly told my my dress and custom sleeves were supposed to be ready for pickup two months ago (they hd not even begin the custom work when I picked up the dress.. less than three months out from my wedding). Now I have to pay for rush alterations, in addition to the additional $3k it cost me to order these sleeves/material through EJ. Furthermore, there was A DARK STAIN ON THE FRONT OF THE DRESS when I picked it up (which had apparently passed their "quality control" check) that I had to point out to get cleaned. I cannot be more relieved to never have to interact with this business ever again. All my other wedding vendors have been professional, prompt, fair and communicative. I find this business to be an overpriced, poorly organized, with a lack of attention to detail or quality assurance. Not to mention lack of appreciation or attention to their customers. WORST BRIDAL EXPERIENCE EVER! I came to Elizabeth John's to order my dress. First - Nicole Sacco was a mess. Incredibly unprofessional and pushy. Sales tactics like she was selling a used car...not a multi thousand dollar wedding dress. Second - Sarah my sales person put the wrong date in my contract and told me she changed it. She never did. I called a few months after not hearing anything from them and they accused me of changing my date before admitting to the mistake and getting the dress Third- the dress is HUGE. I specifically asked them to order one size down, given that all other dresses I had been sized for were a 2 and they ordered a 6...Nicole insisted this was the right size. It is clearly not. This is the worst bridal store in NJ, likely the tristate. They are incredibly unprofessional and take no accountability for mistakes they make. I have met other people who have bought dresses here and have the same horror stories. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. UPDATE TO THE REVIEW: I wouldn't post a horrific review if I didn't have a horrific experience. The lack of ownership to my terrible experience should be telling of the owner's inability to care for clients. read more

Second and final update. About two weeks after posting my review - Melinda, the owner, responded to my google review and asked that I reach out to her. Considering she had my name and info, I was a little put off that she would not just call me, but in the name of owning my negative review, I called her. I expressed my frustration with the process and while defensive, she ultimately took ownership of my negative experience and apologized. She initially offered to cover my dress preservation but I indicated I already preserved my dress and furthermore would not trust their handling of my dress further. Ultimately, Melinda and I agreed upon a refund of the almost $700 I paid in alterations. I received the check yesterday in the mail. While I don't appreciate how I was treated with regards to the staff that handled my alterations, I do appreciate Melinda taking ownership and providing a refund. Accountability is important and I respect the fact that Melinda acknowledged the issue. I also want to note that Melinda never asked me to remove my review or update my review as a condition of receiving the refund. No business is perfect, and I hope Elizabeth Johns corrects the issue so no other bride goes through what I went through. read more

I recently bought a dress for my son's wedding and had a terrible experience. Once they swiped my credit card the demeanor and customer service went out the window. Trying to schedule alterations was horrible even though I expressed my concerns more than once BEFORE I bought the dress. The store only does alteration appointments 3 days a week. The fee for alterations was $450 plus a rush fee of $195. $645 to hem the bottom and take in the sides of the skirt which was ridiculous. More importantly, they have 0 flexibility with accommodating customers. Yes, they have nice dresses but they are not the only store who carry these designers. I have 5 more children who will get married and I will not return to this store and would never recommend them to anyone. A few people I have already spoken to couldn't believe the experience I had. A very poor way to run a business. Find another store who has these designers BUT has good customer service for the prices that you are paying. read more

We came to this store specifically to try on the Jenny Yoo Bridesmaid collection. We had a pleasant time trying on dresses despite the fact that all dresses come in size 10 or above, so we were not able to find what sizes were appropriate for us and had to be heavily clipped into each dress. The real deal breaker for us was when it came time to order the dresses. The ladies at the counter insisted that the dresses must be ordered immediately due to a shipping time frame of about 6 months (which I later found out to be a downright lie). They also said we conveniently had to order all dresses through them at the same time to ensure all dresses were made in the same batch so they had no color differences (also a lie). I am not sure if this place uses these tactics to make sales or they are simply uneducated on their collections. Jenny Yoo dresses are not made-to-order, they are all premade (meaning you do not have to worry about colors matching between batches). This also means that when you order*most* Jenny Yoo dresses, they are already made and usually delivered within 2 weeks (which was the case for all 7 bridesmaids in the wedding party). The last straw was them wanting to charge us $30 PER dress to have the dress delivered...TO THE STORE. We quickly cancelled our orders and found another store that would have the dresses delivered to each of our homes FOR FREE and including free returns. At this point they were unwilling to share our body measurements with us if we were not ordering from them...this however, I realized later was a blessing since they were trying to get me to order a size 8 when I am usually a size 4. After ordering both a size 2 and size 4, the size 2 was actually a better fit. All in all, save your time and your money...go elsewhere. read more

I cannot say enough good things about this salon! I had gone to a bunch of places and tried on so many gowns, I didn't even know what I was looking for anymore. Elizabeth John's was holding a Nouvelle Amsale and Amsale trunk show which is how we found them and made an appointment on their website late Friday night after a disappointing visit to Kleinfelds. My bridal consultant, Carmella, called me that night to ask me questions about what I was looking for, what I had tried on so far and what my style was. She even encouraged me to send her photos of dresses I liked (and worn) so she could get a better idea of my style. We were texting back and forth for a bit. I felt that was so nice which already got us off to the right foot when I walked in the door the next morning and we were ready to go! I cant say enough good things about Carmella. She was so calm, warm and patient. She listened to everything I said, and even took pointers from my sister and parents who accompanied me that day, pulling dresses based on what we were all describing. She had such a lovely energy which made the whole appointment so enjoyable! I never felt pushed or hurried along. All of the dresses in the salon were stunning and I tried on almost all the gowns in the Amsale trunk show. The rep from Amsale, Lindsey, was also very helpful throughout the appointment. I appreciated everyones honesty, saying what did or did not look good about certain dresses and then moving along. Everything felt very personalized and never felt like a dress was being pushed on me. They kept pulling different veils and explaining how we could customize them to fit what I liked. This was when Kiera, another Elizabeth John's employee came in to help, and she was an absolute doll, and so good at what she does!! I ended up loving an Amsale Nouvelle dress but needed some time to think it over and have a family conference haha. They gave us plenty of time to sit and chat about it before we eventually said yes. I am what you would consider just on the border of a "Plus Size Bride" which made finding dresses even just to try on very difficult. I had already been to a dozen stores and wasn't finding either sample dresses I could actually get in or even close to what I was looking for. After another failed attempt, I went with one of my Bridemaids to Elizabeth Johns in Morristown so we could begin looking at Bridesmaid dresses. I had already spoken with their helpful staff and they had the full line I was looking for. While my Bridesmaid was dressing, Dina, the Manager, was chatting with me. Asking about the wedding, what I was looking for in a dress and listening to my frustration in trying to find a dress. She asked why I hadn't tried them for my gown and I told her that I hadn't ever seen a dress that was big enough for me to try. Then she asked if I would mind her showing me a dress that sounded exactly like what I was describing. I agreed. The moment I saw the dress, even on the hanger, I knew it was THE dress. She surprised me yet again but telling me that it was a few sizes larger than I needed so I could actually try it on!!! From that point on it was all perfect. They dressed all of my Bridesmaids, made my veil and even added a monogram I provided. The alterations were even perfect. Reena, the seemstress was AMAZING!!!! She did so much to make the dress fit perfectly. Even coming up with ideas, like adding boning so that the dress sat perfectly. Not too heavy and I NEVER had to pull it up, not all night. They even accommodated my picking the dress up early due to snow. Janice, Dina, Reena and the whole staff were always so pleasant, accommodating and fun. I loved the whole experience so much. My whole wedding party did and everyone looked stunning on the day of. The girls love their dresses and plan to wear them again. Thank you soooo much EJ TEAM. I loved every minute of my appointment at Elizabeth John's. Deborah was a recommended consultant from a friend of mine who got her dress there. All I can say is wow was she fantastic at choosing dresses she knew would look good on me. I didn't have a specific style in mind and I am so glad I let her help me. The ones she picked for me happened to be my two favorites. What I love is you can browse all of the dresses on the floor before trying on. There are so many beautiful and unique dresses--ones I have not seen in other stores. When she finished off a look by putting a veil on me my mom and I lost it and cried. We all knew I found the dress at that point and she brought out 2 flutes of champagne for me and my mom. Not only was it a great experience but also a memory I will never forget. Not pushy at all. This place was terrible! All of my other wedding vendors went above and beyond. Elizabeth Johns is getting my only negative review from my wedding. I used them for bridesmaids dresses. We had several issues with communication and when they made mistakes (dresses arrived a month later than the date they gave me over the phone, one of my bridesmaids was told she'd get a belt with her dress and it didn't arrive and then she had to fight them to get it sent to her). They also charge your card and hold you to your order BEFORE you sign contracts. They were extremely defensive and didn't take responsibility for any of my issues. If you dare HAVE to go here - make sure you get everything in writing and order early. I would stay far away if you can! Also- personally - with bridesmaids all over the country, using a national chain like bella bridesmaids would have made more sense looking back rather than leaving them to go to tailors to get measured without trying the dresses on. read more

They don't act like a "high end" bridal store: I went to the store about 2 months ago to look at shoes for my wedding. I had been their previously to try on dresses so I had an idea of which shoes I wanted. When I made the appointment online it made you choose what your appointment was for. I picked shoes. Got to the appointment and the consultant had no idea about the only designer shoes they carry and had to keep asking a different girl all of the questions I was asking her. Ended up ordering the shoes, no help from her. Fast forward it's now 2 months from when I ordered them. They didn't need to be dyed or anything special so I was hoping to have them sooner than later. Since it's now been 2 months I called the store to see if maybe they came in. What do you know, they came in...who knows when but they couldn't be bothered to call me and tell me. Pretty lousy customer service for a "high end" shop, especially when spending a nice chunk of money on these designer shoes. I spoke to the girls up front when I picked them up and explained what happened. They just said oh it must've been overlooked (calling me) and all they could say was "thanks for your feedback". Elizabeth johns is as pictured, a lovely boutique with a beautiful selection of gowns. I came on a week day night and had the whole store to myself! Even if you had to share the space with others there are separate mirrors and seating areas for different clients that gave you privacy from other brides. My consultant Dina was wonderful. I told her what I was looking for and she picked a few dresses for me, saving the best for last. After decking me out with the perfect veil, I said yes to the dress! Dina was patient, listened to my concerns, and knew what I needed to see in the sample dress for me to finally take the plunge (calling for the seamstress to come up to pin extra crinoline under the skirt, choosing beautiful accessories for me, and letting me roam around the store wearing the dress and take a video of it all). We celebrated with champagne, took my measurements, and I prepared for the long wait for my dress to arrive. Dina remained accessible via email if I had questions and she also sent me a nice card during this waiting period. Now I'm two fittings in with one more to go. I wish they had later hours for fittings as it's hard to score a later appt on their one late day. I'm coming from manhattan and it's not possible to come during the day tues-thurs so I wish these hours were more flexible. However the store manager was accommodating enough to squeeze in my last fitting at a time slot I could come, taking my appointment herself since my seamstress was already double booked. My seamstress has done a wonderful job so far. I am still waiting on my last fitting so keeping my fingers crossed! read more

I've never given a rating to any business before but I feel so unbelievably disappointed in my experience with Elizabeth johns that I felt it necessary to share. At first it was a nice store and the staff were pleasant. I decided to have my bridesmaids get their dresses there because I liked the store and they said they would be able to ship the dresses to my bridesmaids houses since all of them live far away. Four months go by and only now when the dresses arrive do they inform me that there is an additional $25 charge per dress for the shipping. I found this to be problematic- they knew we wanted the dresses shipped from the beginning so why not be upfront about the charge? I had been to the store 4 times with my bridesmaids and never had this been mentioned or explained by the staff, and had it been explained we may have looked elsewhere. But only at the end when my wedding is 2.5months away do they discuss a hidden cost and there's no way I can change the decision now. Additionally, I took my mom there to look for her dress for the wedding before my experience was negative. She fell in love with a dress and left the store to price it out at other stores. Turns out the dress had already been discontinued by the designer and is no longer being made. It is poor business practice to have products on the rack that are unavailable. The sales rep had no idea the dress was even discontinued. All in all, these events tell me there is poor management, communication within the store between management and employees, and communication between the store and it's customers. And lastly when I expressed my dissatisfaction, the manager Keara was extremely rude and apathetic, unwilling to even try to figure out a way to rectify and improve my impression of the business. In a nutshell - if you're a bride or bridesmaid, go somewhere else! I agree with the other reviewers about the absolute LACK of customer service at Elizabeth Johns. While all of the bridesmaids in this particular wedding looked beautiful on the day of the event, it was not worth the stress exacerbated by the staff at this place. When we initially went for our fittings in December, there weren't any issues. Subsequently, I called with my credit card information, as instructed, and provided it to Janice. I made a point of reminding her that there was another bridesmaid with the same first name as me, so that she wouldn't mix up our orders and sizes. I was told that they would send me a contract to sign (!), which I was to send back ASAP. I scanned the signed contract back the same afternoon. (Side note - the bride and about a third of her bridesmaids, including me, are attorneys, and all thought the idea of signing a contract to buy a bridesmaid dress was ludicrous). Several weeks later, I received a snippy voicemail message from Janice stating that I had failed to return the contract for my dress. Funny how that didn't stop them from charging my credit card immediately...when I stated that I had e-mailed the contract back the same day that I had paid, Janice changed her story and said that they had received the e-mail, but couldn't open the attachment. I faxed the contract to them that same day, but decided to check my previous e-mail to see if there was, in fact, something wrong with the attachment. There wasn't - apparently, Elizabeth Johns' technological capabilities don't include opening basic .PDF files. I also learned from the bride that in the interim, the shop had been calling the other bridesmaid with the same name as me, harassing her about returning my contract. The bride graciously offered to pay for the alterations (which, by contract, were $100 MINIMUM charge per person!), and prepaid for this in store. When another bridesmaid and I went to get fitted for alterations, the seamstress brought us to the front desk to pay. When we told the girl at the desk that the bride had prepaid, she argued that the bride had paid for our dresses and that we were responsible for the alterations (my AmEx bill says differently). I'm not sure what magical screen she finally navigated to, but eventually she conceded that the bride had paid for the alterations in advance and we were not supposed to be charged. Finally, there were a lot of issues with the fit of the dresses after the alterations were completed. Fortunately, my dress was fine, but several of the other girls' dresses were either too big or too small. Overall, it was just a very unpleasant experience. You would think that when a bride has TWELVE bridesmaids, two flower girls, and her mother ordering dresses from this shop, that they would go above and beyond to make sure that everything ran smoothly. Instead, they acted like it was a huge favor that they knocked off a few dollars from the price of the dresses and made the process horrific for all involved. read more

The woman attending me was okay (a bit lethargic and unenthusiastic, but not hostile), but the majority of dresses did not have sample dresses larger than a street size 6/8, which seems very silly considering that most of the designers EJ carries makes bigger sizes. I am a size 10/12 in street clothes, is that so hard? I realize this is an issue in the bridal industry at large, but there is clearly no incentive to help rectify the issue at this salon. Also, the "touches" you expect from a high end salon were laughable. A mini bottle of tepid water and a robe (crumpled up on the bench, clearly having just been worn by someone else). Only gave it one star because I can't give zero stars. Went here to buy a graduation dress- the store seemed nice and was recommended by my school. I ordered my dress (which I needed for June 12) on February 2nd. It did not arrive at the store until May 8 and still needed to be altered. I was starting to get worried that my dress wouldn't fit/be ready on time but they assured me that I would be fine and that they've "never missed a date yet." I come for my fitting May 16 (the ONLY time they could get me in after the dress arrived) and- of course- the dress doesn't fit! Completely the wrong size. Can barely zip it up or breathe when it finally is zipped up. The seamstress assured me it was "just the zipper" and she'd let out the dress and it'd be fine. I sit here in the dressing room today at my second fitting- surprise surprise! The dress STILL doesn't fit, and my graduation is in less than two weeks! The seamstress and her friend are now frantically trying to fix the dress in their little private room, and I overhear: "she's going to be one of THOSE who makes a fuss and tries to ask for a refund" I have emailed my school and told them to never recommend this place again. On Saturday, a group of 5 of us, actually made up of two different bridal parties had a 10AM appointment. Caitlin and Lauren assisted the brides to select beautiful bridesmaids dresses. Each of us was measured in private and we were spoken to about sizes and other options. Both women were very respectful of my somewhat crazy measurements. I have had other salons tell me that they wouldn't order me a dress due to body shape! Caitlin made it a point to check a few different options to ensure an appropriate size was ordered for me. When it came time for one of the brides to try on dresses, I feel the overall experience was awesome! Both women made the bride feel special and kept her wishes in mind when assisting in dresses to try on and accessories. Loved this place! read more

I had the most amazing experience at Elizabeth Johns bridal. I am 6 weeks out from my wedding and had been talked into another dress at an upscale boutique in NYC that never felt quite right. After my first fitting I thought I was doomed to wear a dress that wasn't doing it for me. I found Elizabeth Johns on a whim and they helped me find EXACTLY what I was looking for, within my price range and I could walk out that day with my dress. They quite LITERALLY saved my wedding day. Thank you so much to ALL the staff that helped me and made this happen so I can feel beautiful on my wedding day. read more

I'm really sad to read all these bad reviews. I had a good experience at this bridal salon. Dina was my consultant and called me the night before to get an idea of what I was looking for, I texted her my Pinterest board of my favorites and she did not disappoint! Dina was extremely nice and patient. I really appreciate how she had dresses waiting for me to try on. I liked ALL of the dresses I tried on but fell in love with a dress I ended up picking out. Everyone in the store was friendly and the manager even took off $100 (ridiculous) to accommodate a cancellation fee of an appointment I had after I said yes to the dress! I'm really hoping further interaction with this salon would be just as great! I highly recommend that brides to be try out this salon! read more

Staff is strangely rude. When you are looking to make a large and important purchase, scheduling an appointment for MOB and bridemaids dresses, they should not be so rigid and unforgiving. Selection is not worth the headache, go elsewhere! read more
