This was my 1st visit and I absolutely loved it. Love the decor and the feel of the place. I ordered the pork chop dinner with string beans, cabbage, and potato salad. I could only eat 1 pork chop, which was seasoned great but a little tough. If cooked 1 min less on each side would be perfect. Cabbage was delicious. Potato was good, but just a little too much dill seasoning. Too full to eat the strings beans, but definitely looking forward to them. I will definitely be back.

I had been to this establishment before when it was across the street at the mall. I love how they were able to grow - and I love seeing them succeed. Normally when I'd visit, I'd order a dinner. Back then, an order took time, thus I assumed it was cooked fresh. They now have food behind the glass that you do not have to wait on to be cooked. I assume, the most popular items are behind the glass. I ordered a catfish sandwich. I wanted something hot and built with love. I wanted more than a fish sandwich from Popeyes, Burger King, or McDonald's... well, they gave me two pieces of fish that were warm (cooked earlier) and two slices of cool bread. It was definitely not what I expected for $9. At the same time, it's not bad. I went home and added some tomatoes, pickles ... and stuff. It was decent. This is NOT the place to go to for a fish sandwich. When I return, I'll get a meal. You can get more fish, two sides, and bread for not much more money. The place appeared clean.

I've been eating here for years, been a loyal customer since they were in Forestville Mall. This was my first time trying them since they moved across the street, and there have been some noticeable changes. First off, you can't call in orders anymore. I learned that the hard way the first time I tried to order after the move. I was told, "We don't do call-in orders on this side, sir" , no further explanation. So this time, I just went in person. They've definitely expanded, much bigger space. Looks like they've got two small bar areas (unoccupied when I visited) and four dining areas: two larger ones and two smaller ones with just high tables as soon as you walk in. Now all the food is laid out buffet-style on hot tables, even stuff that used to be cooked to order, like the wings, which is all I ever get. I was skeptical about that because when I first started coming here, the wait was 25-30 minutes even with call-in orders. But once I got there, I understood the new setup. I was also worried the wings might not be hot anymore since they're no longer made to order, but they were still nice and hot, so that was a win. The 6-wing dinner used to be $15, which honestly, was underpriced. So I'm not mad at the price increase($20 now), but with that increase, I'm more critical now. I waited about 15 minutes just to place my order because the line was long, but that's still better than waiting 25-30 minutes like before. Still, it's not as convenient as calling it in. Food was still solid. Chicken: hot and seasoned right Mac and cheese: creamy and just right Yams and cabbage: still hitting like always Cornbread muffin: still not a fan, but I never have been Looks like they're setting up a self-service kiosk too, which wasn't working yet when I went. I'll go back on a less busy day to see what the wait looks like and whether the wings stay hot even when it's not peak time.

    Pork Chop Platter
    Latonya H.

Decided to come and try Ella's since my regular place was closed and I wanted a pork chop meal. When you walk into the restaurant you have to walk in to the back as the front is the bar area. The place was packed I guess no one wanted to cook...lol. The line was long but it was moving fast as most of the food is already prepared. I ordered the pork chop platter, the lady that took my order told me that it was going to be a wait since there were none available at the moment. I didn't have a problem waiting since I knew that my food was going to be hot and fresh. We'll let me tell you the lady that took my order completely forgot about me and I ended up waiting 30 minutes for my food. Another server asked me what I ordered because she seen that I been waiting for a long time and made my food. She was very nice and apologized for the wait and other lady forgetting about me. Now let's get to the food. The pork chops were freshly cooked and hot but were very tough. The greens were great and the Mac and cheese were okay. Would I come back maybe but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Period…read more I've been seeing this place all over social media, so when I found myself in the area, I had to see what the hype was about. First off, parking is easy. It's in a shopping center, so nothing stressful there, and the restaurant itself is easy to spot. Walking in, the first thing I noticed was how clean, polished, and classy everything looked. Even though it was busy, it didn't feel chaotic. The staff immediately greeted me and asked if it was my first time which I appreciated. They didn't just rush me through the line; they actually took time to explain the menu, how the bowls are built, and offered samples. That alone made the experience feel welcoming and intentional. Now let's get into the FOOD. Everything looked fresh. They have about four rice options (which is already a win), and I went with the pineapple coconut rice. For my protein, I chose grilled chicken, but they also offer shrimp, salmon, and even a mushroom option for vegetarians and honestly, the mushrooms looked so good I almost switched. For my added sides, I kept it simple because I really wanted to taste everything. Collard greens and sweet potatoes. But they also had plantains, and okra....real deal soul food options. Then you get into the fresh toppings. Slaws, carrots, pickled veggies. I kept it light. I finished my bowl with collard green pesto (which intrigued me, and I'm glad I tried it) and added an étouffée sauce over my rice... and listen!!!!! That combo? Chef's kiss. I grabbed a tropical punch juice, and just like everything else, it tasted fresh and well-made. Let me say this clearly: the food is a 10/10. If you're someone who will give Chipotle chance after chance, then you absolutely owe it to yourself to try Spice Black. 10/10. Worth your money. Worth the hype. Worth the experience.

The restaurant is nicely decorated with vibrant colors and very clean. The service is friendly and welcoming. The food was okay. Not bad and just good in my opinion. Its not rave worthy but its still good. I would come back and try other options. This is still a good healthier option oppose to the many of terrible choices we have to choose from, this beats most unhealthy fast foods restaurants. For that reason I would return to try other food options. If you like chickpeas then this is your meal, Im not so it threw off the salad to me. I would have preferred chicken. Honestly, everything came together nicely as one salad, nothing was over powering. I'm just not a fan of chickpeas. They do have an option for shrimp but dont eat bottom feeders so that wasn't an option for me. My tastebuds are much different from yours so I would still give it a try. You might like it a little more than me. Its still a fairly good meal.

First, when my delivery driver dropped off my plate I was thinking to myself, Dang, this is heavy! I only ordered one plate but it felt like 2lbs of food. When I opened the container I was pleasantly surprised that it was packed! Two pork chops (sauce on side, thank you), huge servings of mac and cheese and greens and a cornbread. All fantastic. This was my first visit to Kitchen Savages. I had tried walking in without a reservation once before on a Saturday evening, and there were no seats available. I started off with the Mimosa Sampler for my drink order; I wanted to try the different flavours that were on offer. These were nice, but I'd hoped the presentation would have been a little better and the mimosas not as heavy with the juices. The food was great! Super tasty and packed with flavour. My husband had the Peach Cobbler French Toast and I ordered the 'Create-Your-Own' pasta. I requested it with salmon, shrimp and spinach, but it only came with the shrimp and spinach. Such a shame, because I can imagine the salmon would have made the dish EVEN better. When the bill came, it had the salmon (which I never got) listed on it - after pointing this out, the server checked with the kitchen, and kindly removed it from the bill. Overall, I would say that we really enjoyed brunch here. I will definitely be back in the future to try the main dinner menu & hopefully there'll be no mixups with what I order and what I get .

Now, I wasn't really happy about our seat but I couldn't see behind the wall to know if there was another table to request to move to. We were sat in the front corner I guess directly under a vent and it was already chilly outside. I didn't let it bother me because I really wanted to try ERRTHANG on the menu. Now, this is where I was about to get up and leave. We sat for a good while and NO ONE came to greet, take a drink order, or even ask have we been helped. I want to say it's because we were somewhat out of sight. Because it was freezing I got up and asked for another table, which was on the other side of the wall with all the other customers and much warmer even with the patio bar doors open. No, I don't remember my waiters name, but he came over immediately and apologized for us being stranded in the back. We went on to order our drinks which came fairly quickly and we ordered our food. I was kind of disappointed because he said they no longer served fried crab legs and should be taken off the menu, but that's OK. I was ready to order something else. I had Chef Mo's Shrimp & Grits and when I say it's the best shrimp and grits I've ever had in my life. It was amazing. The grits were three cheese grits with crawfish, étouffée, and large perfectly shrimp with some BOMB jalapeño beef sausage, which I would have removed, but I said let's do it. Best decision I've ever made. I cannot stop thinking about the grits. My friend ordered the Cajun fried fish and grits with a side of eggs (no pic). We both raved the entire time about how creamy and delicious the grits were. I didn't need to add anything, no butter, no salt, no sugar. They were absolutely amazing and I'm not even a huge grits fan. Now, the fish, the menu stated half a pound, which came out to be one small piece of whiting. I guess I was expecting a bigger piece or maybe two pieces because it was so tiny but that baby filet was seasoned to the gods, I mean perfect. The breading was so flavorful but not overpowering or salty. The eggs tasted like the eggs I had in the marines out of a bag, but he mix them with the grits and was fine. Everything was so good that we thought about coming back later that night to try something else. Please bring back the deep-fried crab legs

Considering they're a Cajun-Latin fusion restaurant, I expected bolder flavors and more of a wow factor. As for the location, it's in an area that's clearly being revitalized and gentrified, but it's still not one of my favorite parts of town. The restaurant gives neighborhood bar energy more than destination restaurant vibes. Would I come back? Probably not on purpose.
