So much attention to detail from the front door lighting to the soft seating; beautiful plates, flowers pink napkins and forks. Thé service was hostess was just okay; however our server Marque was awesome. He made great suggestions knew the menu and verified menu items requested. He did not miss anything. I appreciated him checking in timely. There was also a woman-manager maybe who was also friendly and checked on our satisfaction while eating. The food and drinks; I came for seafood. We ordered fried lobster pasta- which included shrimp; spicy goodness! So flavorful; my only minus was a bit oil at the bottom of the pasta(curious about that. The jerk bites were delicious seasoned but a little chewy. The deviled eggs; so good I forgot to get a full presentation lol. I was excited to finally get a reservation at Hen Quarter. The restaurant is beautiful, and the waterfront location makes for a great atmosphere. Surprisingly, it wasn't very busy for a Friday night near Navy Yard, which, in hindsight, may have been a sign. The service got off to a rough start. Valet parking was advertised, but no valet was present when we arrived. We waited about 15 minutes before anyone showed up. Once seated, it took quite a while for our server to introduce himself, check on us, and even offer water. We opted for the $30 unlimited drinks, which sounded like a great deal. Unfortunately, the bartender struggled with an Old Fashioned multiple times. The first drink had the wrong liquor, incorrect ingredients, and even the wrong ice. After another attempt, our server explained that the bartender was new, so he ended up making and pouring the drink himself. The food was a mixed bag. The jerk steak bites were disappointing, several of the six pieces were mostly fat, making the appetizer feel like a waste. The Brussels sprouts, which are cooked with okra, were anything but crispy. Instead, they were extremely slimy. The lobster pasta had good flavor, but it was swimming in so much oil you could have fried a batch of chicken. On the positive side, the chicken and waffles were delicious and easily the best dish we ordered. The sea bass, however, was just mediocre. To end the evening, we experienced another long wait. It took about 15 minutes for the valet to return, and then another 10 minutes to bring the car. Overall, Hen Quarter has a beautiful location and a lot of potential, but the inconsistent service and hit-or-miss food made for a disappointing experience. I stopped by Hen Quarter for brunch to spend some time with a friend who was in town. It was my first time visiting and after hearing so much about it, I was excited to finally see what they had to offer. At first glance, the space is beautiful and huge! There is plenty of seating whether you want to hang at one of the bars or dine with friends. It's a great spot for big parties, group dinners or events. For brunch we chosethe all you can eat food and drink option. Some of the food is buffet style and other items have to be requested from the menu and brought out to the table. The food itself was just okay. Nothing was bad but nothing really stood out for me either. I also tried the old fashioneds but found out they were pre-made and weren't great. Overall the experience was just okay for me. I'd possibly come back to explore other items on the menu or check out their happy hour options but i'm glad I finally got a chance to finally visit. Birthday dinner for the birthday boy. He gave us the heads up that there would be live music, so that was exciting to look forward to. What I didn't expect was for them to seat us right next to the stage XD. As such, it was very loud and we kind of prayed for breaks so we didn't have to shout. But, the music was incredible. I'll just prefer not to be that close in the future if I can help it. Ask for the food, they have some fun deals. There are two specific options that are paired with all you can drink old-fashioneds, sangrias, and a few others that I can't remember. You can pick between ribs, wings, and fries, or crab legs and cornbread. Both of these options are unlimited for 2 hours. WOW. I wasn't prepared to work for the crab legs, but after a friend got the cornbread or the table to share, that would have been worth it on its own... Well, maybe haha. It was delicious. Several others and I decided to do the ribs deal. When you first place the order, they give you all three things. And I love that you can pick between fried and chargrilled wings. I went for the latter, and went for the Phoenix rub because I can't remember if I've had that before. The wings and fries were the star of the show. The ribs, not so much. For round two, I just got wings and fries... The ribs were saucy, but somehow they were still kind of dry. Only part of the meal that I genuinely did not like. I spent Sunday brunch at Hen Quarter Prime celebrating a friend's birthday with a group of six, and overall we had a great time. I actually arrived about an hour after everyone else, and I really appreciated that the staff still accommodated me and allowed me to enjoy the full two-hour brunch experience instead of rushing me. That flexibility meant a lot and let me celebrate with my friends without feeling like I had missed out. The buffet itself had plenty to choose from, including fried catfish, made-to-order waffles, macaroni and cheese, fresh fruit, and desserts. I decided to upgrade with the seafood option, which was absolutely worth it. I enjoyed oysters, crab legs, shrimp cocktail, and prime rib, making brunch feel like a true special occasion. My only disappointment was the prime rib. I love mine rare, but each serving I received was more well done than I prefer. It tasted like it had spent a little too much time under the heat lamps before being served. Service was friendly, but it definitely felt like the restaurant was stretched thin. Our server was attentive and kind, but drinks and premium brunch items occasionally went to the wrong table, and there were moments when it seemed difficult to keep track of who had ordered what. To me, this felt less like a service issue and more like a staffing issue. It's a large, beautifully designed restaurant, and it seemed like there simply weren't enough servers for the number of guests. I understand that restaurants are trying to balance staffing and costs, especially with the challenges many businesses in DC are facing right now, but it does affect the guest experience. When everyone who just dined at this restaurant, asks each other, "how does this place stay in business?" when offering such a good deal for all you can eat crab legs and all you can drink. You know it was a solid meal and the experience was excellent! We had a special occasion, and we all came out for all you can eat crab legs. All you can eat cornbread and all you can drink. The alcoholic beverages were limited to Jim beam old-fashioned, red or white sangria, and a limited draft beer select selection. For all you can drink, you would usually expect a water down lower quality beverage, however, that was not the case. The old-fashioned were very well made. The red sangria was decadent and not overly sweet. And the draft beer was a good old draft beer. Caroline was our server. She was absolutely excellent. She was attentive, polite patient with us. Always making sure we were all taken care of. She helped make our meal even better. The decor of this restaurant is very high class. Visually it's very well, appointed with table, linens, cloth, napkins, and cohesive color scheme. With the decor, high-quality drinks and the high-quality food we were more than happy to pay the $70 for all you can eat and drink. I highly recommend this place. I went here for Sunday brunch and was pleasantly surprised by the tucked away location along the river. I arrived on time but it was sooooo busy/crowded that it took 15 minutes to get help/seated. Once I was finally seated it took 20 minutes for the wait to come over. The brunch menu includes budget items (catfish, chicken, bacon, Mac & cheese, salad, etc) and the items you can order from the server (French toast, biscuits, avo toast etc). I ordered 2 biscuits and a drink ... they didn't come. I had to ask for the drink after 20 minutes (my companion ordered mimosas) and it took an additional 20 minutes for the pineapple. The food at the buffet was very picked over and the condiments were never refreshed. I found it odd that bowls of seasoning were on the table (there has to be another way). I ordered a second drink and again it took forever for it to come. When we were ready to leave it took the server 30 minutes to come and check us out. Let's start with the good, the ambience is super cute, pink decor, I love, and great views and location; service is pretty good- we sat at the bar- however I hate to give this place a subpar review but a real foodie has to come thru and give you the real...the fried chicken was a no it was dry and tasted old. The Brussel sprouts were delicious we got them without pork, super delicious and flavorful. The oysters Rockefeller was really good as well as the steak and fries. Collard greens were flavorless. The fried green tomatoes were bland, just tasted straight cornmeal not a lick of seasoning: the deviled eggs were pretty good as well, also got those without the bacon and enjoyed them. I visited for the Mother's Day brunch, and I'll start by saying the atmosphere was beautiful. I loved the decor, the music playing, and the hostess stand was warm and friendly. Unfortunately, that's where the experience started to go downhill. The food itself was good, but the service from Jordan honestly put a damper on the afternoon. On such a busy holiday, I understand things can get hectic, but we constantly had to ask for basic things like water and for our dirty dishes to be cleared, and the service was extremely slow and inattentive. I ordered pancakes from the menu. I waited nearly 30 minutes for pancakes because certain menu items apparently had to be ordered separately. And I had to ask about them twice. He keep blaming the kitchen, but I honestly think that it was him. To make matters worse, Jordan spilled water on my daughter's food and on the floor. His shirt was also visibly dirty with food and water stains on the front, which was not the most professional appearance. From where we were seated, we could also see him taking several breaks while the restaurant was busy. I didn't want to complain in the moment because my children planned this outing for me, and I didn't want to put a damper on the afternoon. But for me, service really makes or breaks a restaurant experience. And respectfully, some people are meant to be servers and some people are not. Serving may just not be Jordan's strength. He seemed overwhelmed, extremely slow, and honestly confused for most of our visit. And they were adding 20% gratuity automatically. He did not deserve 20% AT all! He soured my Mother's Day experience which was truly unfortunate. The food and ambiance were there -- the service unfortunately was not. When I booked this reservation for eight, I did not know that there would be a live band. It was a great surprise, and the band was jumping! The food was delicious. The service was great. A few friends and I came for happy hour on a Thursday and were pleasantly surprised to find a bottomless snow crab legs + cocktails deal for $69. Absolute steal. Pro tip: come hungry, because they keep the crabs coming out hot and fresh. Our waiter was friendly and efficient, making sure everything flowed smoothly. We added a few sides: cornbread, fries, mushrooms, and collards... all solid. The drink options were great, too: beer, mimosas, sangria, house champagne, and even a Jim Beam Old Fashioned, which you could mix and match throughout the night. The space itself is huge, which makes it great for groups. The only downside is parking if there's a Nats game (like the night we went), be prepared for limited or pricey options. Bonus: they had live music, and when I say the band and lead singer put on a show, they had the whole place moving. By the time we left at 9:30, people were up dancing and singing along. Our waiter I believe her name may start with a J she was amazing. Very attentive checked in on us refilled everything so quickly while waiting on several other tables. The food always came out hot. We stood at the front, even though the restaurant was fairly empty, and then around the corner a guy came and saw us eventually. The server didn't know the menu very well. The brunch buffet was set up in kind of a weird way: some of the stuff you just go to the buffet and grab it, while other stuff you have to order from the server. The best thing we had was the avocado toast, which is one of the things you had to order from the server. The items on the actual buffet, it was fairly average. Our server, Ashley, was very nice and did a great job taking care of our needs. Two other things I wanted to make note of: This is not the easiest place to get to. There really isn't any public transportation that comes near there, so you have to drive your own vehicle or take a rideshare, unless you want to walk quite a distance from the nearest Metro stop. I have to say I was a bit disappointed with the food offering. This place is located in SW DC by the Riverfront building. First it is difficult to find because the address will take you to the other side of the building which you will need to walk around to the entrance. Sunday brunch was $70 per person all you can eat with a good seafood spread but it is a bit early for seafood. When we got there, the buffet for chicken, carving station, etc does not have a lot of food. The dessert was not great. I ordered a veggie omelette and even that was not tasty. The food quality is poor and server was not attentive. Ambiance is nice and comfortable. Noise level is manageable. read more

The room was very nicely decorated and well light, only thing I would wish is that we could play our own music due to the restaurant music jumping around. The brunch is buffet style and anything they do not serve on the buffet, you order by telling your server. One downside for me was that the buffet is not off to the side instead it is in the middle of the dining room, so you have to walk past peoples chairs and try not to bump them walking to and from the buffet. read more

With this Wednesday special it is a 2 hour limited and you can't take anything home, which was no problem because the staff is attentive, so the wings and drinks were flowing. We kicked off the New Year at this restaurant's New Year's Eve event, and what a start it was! It was bustling, and we did experience a notable wait for both seating (even with a reservation) and initial service--about 45+ minutes before a server greeted our table. However, we totally understood given the busy night but I still feel it was unacceptable. Our server was incredibly sweet and friendly, doing her best to make up for lost time. The restaurant was bustling with people and even had a live band and performance going on during the night which made for a very nice atmosphere. I jumped on their New Year's all-you-can-drink whiskey special. It was a great promotion, and the whiskey itself wasn't bad at all. For starters, we had the Fried Green Tomatoes. They were perfectly crispy with just the right amount of tang. While I prefer a thicker cut, these were still very good. The cornbread is a favorite of mine, came out piping hot and buttery. Our main courses were equally satisfying. The Catfish and Grits featured perfectly crispy, well-seasoned catfish and wonderfully creamy grits. The portion was fair for the price, though we could have used a bit more of that delicious crawfish sauce. We also tried the Steak Frites, with the steak cooked to a perfect medium as requested, and the chimichurri sauce was absolutely delicious. Everything was seasoned well; no complaints there! The funny part of this brunch was that my partner in crime was excited to make up our previous Sunday brunch spot with Hen Quarter Prime. He always picks the best places and last Sunday was less desirable. So here we were! A new "hot spot". Parking was nightmare. We circled and circled around looking like two thieves casing the area. Finally lucky him, he found a spot. Thank goodness he's always early! It was the street parking or valet. Entrance, cute little entrance, super nice host. We asked for outside dining to enjoy the rest of this good DC weather! We got seated down. No menus were given to us but the host told us about the brunch option. We waited about 5 minutes for our server who never came but someone else did to take our drink order. Brunch was obviously the thing to do! We asked the nice man if we could just order with him verses waiting on our waitress. He said sure, we placed our order, got up and went to the buffet style area. The buffet was small and packed like sardines, luckily patrons were nice. A big guy ran into me, I almost threw my whole plate of food on a woman but thank goodness I was able to catch what could have been a disaster for her outfit, hair and day! She was sweet and said she was grateful I caught my plate. We came back to an empty table, still no drinks. No water, nothing. We had eaten most of our meal when our $10 bottle of champagne finally arrived. I don't complain but I told my handsome to just send it back because our plates were almost empty. He's a super patient person, so he said it was fine. Our waitress finally came over and appeared to be high or maybe just real "groovy". I'm not sure how to explain her. Nice but something was off. She was our waitress but might as well not have been because the guy assisted us more. Drinks came about 30 minutes later. After observing the cheap bottle of champagne we were given, my handsome explained to the waiter that he saw their website and it specifically said that unlimited mimosas were included into the brunch menu price. We had one bottle. $10 was the normal retail price. $29 dollars each person for unlimited mimosas and a guaranteed headache from your cheap bottle, um. No gracias! Would I come back? I went to Hen Quarter Prime for the Patrón Tequila event, and it was my first time visiting. Overall, it didn't disappoint. The ambiance was intimate and inviting. I enjoyed the pre-fixe menu and the drinks, but there were a couple of drawbacks. The chicken they served was way too salty, I couldn't eat it. Also, the Patrón pours were pretty stingy for a tequila focused event. Service could've been better too. It took a long time to get the server's attention, though I'll chalk that up to the crowd, being that it was a large event. On a high note, the crawfish crab cake was incredible. That needs to become a regular item on the menu. I even wished I could've ordered one to go. All in all, I plan to go back. I'm definitely looking forward to their Uncle Nearest event. When it comes to brunch and bottomless this is the place to be. The food is amazing the service was impeccable as they keep the drinks coming, and it's a nice restaurant. Saturday and Sunday brunch is a must here and they also have different specials on different days of the week. read more

I really enjoyed Hen Quarter. On Fridays they do bottomless crab legs, cornbread, bourbon, wine and beer for 2 hrs for $69 pp. The food was good and the service was fantastic. Our server Jay was extremely attentive and gave great recommendations. The refills on the crab legs and cornbread came out very quickly and the drinks were very strong. The restaurant itself was also very nice, right on the water with outdoor seating as well. They have daily specials and a bottomless brunch on the weekends. read more
