But, then, I'm not sure sellers of illegal guns, couples married, just not to each other, or teen-age partiers would stay here more than once even if you could rent a room for just a few hours. So, what went wrong with our June 15-16 stay at the Windjammer? Let me count the ways: 1. We could not check in upon arrival. A woman behind the desk told us to come back later because, she said, she did not know the check-in procedure; 2. I guess the staff member for whom we had to wait to check in was not out buying air freshener, because our room smelled of cigarette smoke; 3. If you are in the mood for afternoon delight or need a power nap, prepare to be disturbed because there are no "Do Not Disturb" door hangers. It was not a matter of our room missing one. I asked the front desk clerk, who told me the motel does not provide them. That's got to add to the romance of a getaway with the one you love, having maid service knocking on your door when you want to be alone with one another; 4. Speaking of Windjammer maid service, there is little of which to speak, as one look at the dirty bathroom tells you. Bring your own Lysol, and, for that matter, shampoo; 5. I didn't know there had been a Superstorm Sandy Clearance Sale at the New Jersey Shore, but that must be where the Windjammer bought its furniture. See the photo I took; 6. I neglected to take another telling photo, that of the Windjammer Motor Inn sign, which promises daily breakfast. The motel does not serve breakfast every day, as I learned when the desk clerk told me their restaurant would not be open until later in the season. If you're like me, the New Ralph Kramden in you wants to avoid arguing too much, so I didn't protest that their sign promises breakfast or ask why they can't at least serve coffee and donuts in the lobby. If this were my only problem with the Windjammer, I might have asked, but by then I knew we would not return. But, what do I know? The Windjammer Motor Inn is still standing, despite its considerable flaws. I second the recommendation of a previous review, which says the owners should sell to someone who could make it worthy of its beachfront location. If the next Windjammer proprietor is at least aware of the New Jersey Smokefree Air Act that went into effect in 2007, that would be a start.

The day before our check-in we were told that we had to be moved to a first floor standard room, and that floor choices were not guaranteed. Right where I have to put my face. Lovely. Also . The room is extremely, damp ! Everything feels wet all of the time. I believe it is due to the fact that the bathroom doesn't have a fan , which I understand isn't necessary if you have a window in the bathroom, but I think at a beachfront hotel should have a fan in the bathroom to prevent the dampness. And because it is so damp , there is mold on the blinds in the bathroom. Shown in picture. Anyway - the furniture is all chewed up underneath- also due to dampness. I drop something on the floor and had to look under the bed for it, and it was certainly a sight to see.! don't look under the bed just ignore it They only give you 3 flat pillows per bed. You can ask for more but every pillow is flat. And when the woman brought it out to me, I'm not even sure if she had washed her hands before touching the pillow, and she had the pillow snuggled up against her chest when she carried it out It smelled like her perfume, and I wasn't happy with that. The towels have stains and are very thin and rough! The staff was rude and not friendly. I will probably never stay here again. Sorry

Chain that had been there was broken off. Louvered blinds broken. Air conditioner dusty and dirty. No hooks in the bathroom to hang anything. Dirty carpet. Couch stained. Mattresses stained. I know it's the jersey shore and I am not super picky when it comes to hotels but I expected more for $900 for three nights. Will not be staying here again.

You're not staying at the Ritz Carlton. Yes, the Sunburst Motel probably needs renovating since it was last decorated decades ago. Yes, there were cigarette burns in the bedding. However, it's clean for the most part, which can't be said about all of the motels in Seaside Heights. The bathroom was very nice. No, there isn't shampoo, body wash, or conditioner. Unfortunately, you'll have to stop by the local CVS and pick up a couple travel sized bottles. You'll survive. Some pros about our stay at Sunburst: There was a functional triple lock on the door. Definitely helps to know that we're safe. The beds were incredibly comfortable and warm despite the cigarette burn holes. That didn't really bother us too much. The bedding was clean. No bed bugs. We had a nice room with two beds, a kitchenette, TV, and refrigerator. The man who runs the front desk was very nice and helpful. I forgot to get his name but he was very friendly. It's very close to the middle of the boardwalk and beach. There was only one con about staying here. It's very loud and the walls are thin. We had noisy neighbors. Not really a fault of the motel but Seaside typically attracts the louder and younger crowd. Not a huge issue. There's also no daily maid service which doesn't bother us but I know that's a deal breaker for some. Overall, this is a comfortable, fairly clean, and safe place to stay in Seaside Heights. Again, don't come here if you're looking for a ritzy hotel. You'll definitely be disappointed. In fact, don't come to the Jersey Shore at all if you want to go somewhere classy. This isn't it. If you just want a comfortable and pleasant stay, this is a good option. Believe me, there are a lot of motels in the area that are in horrible condition and I would not feel safe staying at. Sunburst isn't one of them. It deserves the four stars. The Charlroy Motel is also another family friendly option in the area. More expensive and on the quieter side of town but worth the money. They were booked for the summer so Sunburst was our next option and they didn't disappoint!

Nice simple room, refrigerator, working AC. Clean room and bathroom! The pool is heated and great for evening use! Tyler, was very accommodating and gave us great restaurant recommendations! Gotta check out Sunset seafood! Good thing Tyler mentioned it was BYOB! Would definitely stay there again and recommend! Thanks Tyler!
