Since meeting Dr. Frankel I simply admire how she incorporates a holistic approach to modern skin medicine; which in today's busy lifestyles often is overlooked by patients (but not by an outstanding practitioner) . I've been to other practices and thought it was the standard to always feel dissatisfied with the level of care, ineffective treatments with medicines that had harmful side effects and not to mention tolerating the poor demeanor of those clinicians. I'm glad I kept searching and found Dr. Frankel! From day one, they educated me in depth on sunscreen, nutrition, lifestyle and environmental triggers that harm the skin which makes for all-inclusive treatment that works. May seem like common sense but it is always part of their discussion and now I see why. They don't just treat an issue, they have a holistic (whole body) approach because external factors can be causing your issues. To get to the point...... I went to Dr Frankel for years. her examinations were very brief. I mentioned that I had something on my head that was itchy and bled when I scratched it. she told me that it was only a keritosis and zapped it. it was still there the following year so I asked for a biopsy. it was cancer!! the tumor had another year to grow. I now have a 2 inch round bald dent on my head. care quality 0 stars. office staff very unfriendly. 0 stars. Been several times. Although some employees are nice most are very ghetto. The wait time is insane and it is a chop shop. No one explains everything entirely as about 5 minutes into your appointment they're already out the door to their next one. I've waited up to 1 hour and 15 minutes to be seen. I've left with no explanation to biopsy results, copies I need, referrals, doctors orders, etc. I've been on hold for 15 minutes for someone to tell me, "I don't know, please hold" over and over again, for an answer to a very simple question. Scheduling people on your way out are rude. Doctors gossip about patients who carry certain coverage, yet have no problem taking a check for mediocre work. Overbooking, lack of explanation, and thoroughly dealing with patients will be your downfall. You are exploiting the poor and elderly. Shame on you. Been going here for 5 years now + I've had a pretty good experience. I've never met with THE ELLEN FRANKLE before but I have seen her in the office so she does exist. Everyone here is super nice except for some of the receptionists. They are a lil cranky + not warm + fuzzy-- some not all! One great thing is that they can usually fit in a last minute appointment if you are having an emergency however they are always running late--- at least 30-40 minutes late. I did go here last year for poison ivy + I went back 3x... everything they gave me didn't work + it was an awful painful month before it went away ...but i'm not quite sure that was their fault. I've been coming here since my mom started seeing Dr. Frankel straight out of her Rhode Island hospital residency. That was many moons ago and Dr. Frankel has catapulted into a huge enterprise...her derm practice and her esthetician services occupy an entire building on Reservoir Ave near the intersection of Park. I would not trust my skin ailments to anyone else. While I have seen Dr. Frankel, I am equally happy with Dr. Bharier or Stephanie, the PA there. I enjoy that I can get an appointment here in a hurry...not that they take me into the exam room in a hurry. The downside to this practice is that lots of other peeps trust this practice as well and it is always packed - and usually behind by a half hour. Grab an early a.m. appointment - cuts the wait in half. Clean waiting room. Professional, perfunctory staff. Wide assortment of products to help you put your best face forward. Just recently tried some items from the Neocutis product line for some fine wrinkles sneaking in around the eyes - loving the results. Highly recommend - despite the possible delays. I love Dr Bharier...he's a knowledeable, friendly man. He will explain everything to you and he doesn't rush. I really like him but would never see Ellen Frankel. I've not had a problem with the office staff except I called to confirm my next day appt and they said he was out of the country and had called me and left me a message which they did not. They rescheduled me immediately and they've always been pretty pleasant. There were 2 times 2 hours I waited and a line formed to reschedule. That's a bit much. Do. Not. Come. Here. !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Oh. My. Word. Sitting in the parking lot immediately writing this following my emergency apt. I have been here several times over the last 6-8 months. I don't know why I continue to come. Today when I walked in, I waited for a solid 30 seconds for the receptionist to get off her cellphone and realize I was standing waiting to be checked in! **The customer service is HORRID. The office staff is inefficient, unprofessional, obnoxious, loud, and flat out rude! As a receptionist myself, I am floored.** You will spend AT LEAST 40 minutes waiting for your scheduled appointment. Not once have they run on time! If you need a referral due to insurance reasons, plan on calling 5 times to be SURE they got the fax!!!!!!! My doctor sent it a week prior and they claimed not to have it. I had to call my doctor, again, and bother them to send something they'd already sent. Aside from the front desks lack of professionalism and appointments running late, the doctor I've been working with is sweet .........but has no idea what's going on with me... (it seems minuscule yet I'm here again)... with no answers. I don't get it. Or they literally just don't know what they're doing. (ALSO, I have to fully explain why I'm there, every visit -- even when it's a follow up!!!! I'm only going for one small thing......!) This place is trash. I averaged 40 minutes waiting time beyond my scheduled appointment for each visit. When I asked Stephanie to check my skin for any weird spots due to sun exposure she looked me over for about 20 seconds with a little light. I felt rushed out of the office. At the end of my first visit we made a plan to remove a skin tag and do a biopsy on a mole. Wanted to do the skin tag first, doctor says no problem mention it on the day of your appointment and it will be fine. I didn't trust her knowledge of how billing/insurance works so I called a week before I was scheduled to be back and the billing staff said they would submit paperwork for the skintag removal. Day of the appointment I call my insurance company and I'm told the office hasn't submitted the pre-authorization paperwork . I pressed on the office staff to fix this problem. The buck was passed as far as who's fault it was, but I did end up having both procedures done. Doctor told the nurse to have them both processed as a biopsy..... Not sure how much she was bending those rules when it comes to billing, but I can say that Neighborhood Health of RI is dropping them from their covered networks.... I was prescribed a $500 ointment to apply to both sites. Boy did I have a laugh with the pharmacist! Pharmacist called them and got them to prescribe something more reasonable. When I came back to get my biopsy results no one even bothered to glance at the sites to see if they were healing well. The majority of the patients that waited in the receptionist area with me were 65+. I think this place is exploiting the fact that many of their clients don't have jobs and are cramming WAY to many people into a single day. I was going to file a formal complaint but they are already being dropped by my insurance. please consider going elsewhere, don't support this garbage place! read more

This practice epitomizes poor customer service! Staff are rude and seem proud to let their customers/ patients know that don't care about you. The very classy foam " coozie" at the check-in window reads "Despite the look on my face you're still talking". When I was told on arrival that I needed a referral from my primary care doctor was needed, I asked why I wouldn't have been informed when I booked the appointment, the front desk person didn't bother to look at me or respond. Took my young daughter here. After waiting 3 months for an appointment, we saw the NP. Horrible. She barely looked at my daughter, didn't even tell her to sit in the examination chair, totally rushed though the appointment and prescribed her some acne medication that made the breakout worse and burned her skin when applied. If you're looking for a reliable dermatologist who is going to really try to HEAL your dermatological issues, this isn't the place. I speak from experience about Dr. Frankel. I used to come here years ago when I had bad acne after hearing that she's the best in the state, totally wrong. Along with the fact that they do indeed overbook and you have to wait 30+ minutes for your appointment, you are quickly assessed and asked what's the problem, then given a chemical antibiotic or some other type of expensive medicine to hide the issue rather than heal and prevent it. After a few visits I noticed how little effort and care she actually puts into her work. It wasn't until after high school that I really tried to treat my own problems with natural or homeopathic skincare. It's funny how much of a difference a non-conventional soap bar will make. I started using something called African Black Soap and within a year my acne disappeared. Along with a not so bad diet and caring what you put in your body, I wouldn't goto a dermatologist for any acne related treatments. I highly recommend taking matters into your own hands before trusting these product pushers, odds are you're in much better hands as long as you do your research. read more

Whatever ails you, acne, dry skin, cancer screenings or just plain getting old and wrinkly (they have botox, peels and all that jazz), these people do it. I went here on high recommendation. I ended up seeing a nurse practitioner. Biggest mistake! Upon removing my birthmark, and 2 other spots (that I had to point out to see), I ended up with a severe infection. I ended up seeing a plastic surgeon to get stitches removed and redone. He said I was lucky I decided to see somebody else to fix this. Now my scar is huge and ugly. I would never go back. I reported them to insurance as well. read more

I was a,patient for 10 years, I sat in that waiting room for hours waiting for them. I missed one appointment and they have dismissed me from care. I can never go back. I missed the appointment because I dropped my phone in the lake and my appointments weren't backed up. They left the reminder message on the wrong phone number so I didn't get it until after the appointment went by. I called the medical board and they said while rude, they can dismiss you for any reason. I think the reason was my insurance I have UnitedHealth Care Rite Care. You WILL wait an unrealistic amount of time in the waiting area to be seen for 5 minutes. They have no problem cancelling your appointment that you had scheduled with them for months. I went there for years until I sat in the waiting room for an hour and counted the amount of hours I waited there to be seen over the course of time. I have been seeing Dr Frankel for many years.I have not been happy with her for awhile.I think I kept going to the office because it was convenient,close to home.She overbooks every time I go the waiting room is overly crowded.Wait time is usually 30-45mins.over your appointment time.When I do see her she rushes through the appointment.She is in and out in 5 mins. She sits with her back to me typing on her computer.She barely looks at my skin.I feel like a number in an assembly line.When I ask her questions she acts like I am annoying her! Recently had a biopsy done did not take the time to talk to me and explain what she was doing.Then handed me a brochure to read about what I had!I really think she is too busy for her patients.I will not be going back again and will not recommend this Dermatologist to anyone.I would rather drive an hour away then go back to this office. read more

I came to see Dr. Frankel in October for severe psoriasis. The staff was awesome she was awesome by December my skin was 75% clear by March I was 100% clear. I cannot tell you enough how happy I am with her performance to anybody who has psoriasis knows what I've gone through and how it feels to be completely clear. My weight times have been minimal and they give me appointments to accommodate my work schedule. I would highly recommend Dr. Frankel and her staff to anyone. read more

I'm not sure how this practice has been listed in RI Monthly's Top Docs issue. Dr. Frankel must have a lot of friends in the business. Just because they are doctors does not mean they have integrity. I find her rude and dismissive. She had given my husband and I medication for our toddlers Mollescum Contagiosum (tiny warts). It was a very harsh cream and extremely difficult to apply without getting it on the surrounding healthy skin. A complete nightmare. After 3 weeks of not a lot of change we asked our pediatrician for another suggestion. In his wisdon he told is to take black electrical tape and cover each wart very firmly (also tedious) and to keep them covered for as long as it takes for the warts to diminish. It worked like a miracle. When we went to the follow-up appt. with Dr. Frankel she was at first excited about the progress of the cream. When we told her we didn't use it and what we did to get rid of them. She was pissed. She didn't even try to pretend she wasn't. Some old-fashioned remedies do work if you can be patient. I have been coming to Dr.Frankel for 20 years. I have never had a wait in the office. I had a possible melanoma issue that needed to be checked and was able to get into her office the next day. I waited MONTHS for an appointment. Unlike others, I didn't have a crazy long wait on the day of, but the actual exam was a joke. So unbelievably fast and cursory- she didn't check the backs of my legs or anything. She quickly looked at my face and back and that's it. I have a history of skin cancer in my family and prior to Frankel I had a dermatologist who was so incredibly thorough- he would check between your toes! Skin cancer doesn't always show up at areas of exposure- it can up in places that have never seen the sun. I can't believe how much I paid for about 1.5 minutes of perusal. And the kicker was the hard sell of the skin care line on the way out. Look elsewhere! read more

I first saw Dr. Frankel in March 2016 after several years of treatment with another provider for vitiligo. I was getting desperate because my condition was staying the same to getting worse on my face and hand. Dr. Frankel wasted no time with beginning a treatment that was different than that which I had been doing the previous 2 years with no results. As she said it would take a little time and effort on my part and to make sure to come in for treatment each week and to use the appropriate topical drug. It is now almost 6 months of treatment and i am delighted with the results and so is my wife and family . Pigmentation is now evident on all affected skin- my face which made me self conscious is so normal looking that unless you examined me very closely you wouldn't even know i had vitiligo. The round circle of vitiligo on my hand has shrunk noticeably and all the hair follicles are now getting nicely pigmented . I can say with confidence that if i had not switched to Dr. Frankel and stayed at my previous doctor my condition would probably be as bad as ever. I am so grateful for her expertise and encouragement during this process. Her staff is also great too , always friendly and professional , if you have a question about anything they will help you . I just came from there and I will say the treatment I received was very good and enjoy my Doctor. There was no long wait. The people were friendly. That part very good. Now, part two. I bought a recommended sun screen under the name Solbar Zinc. I thought the cost of $40.00 was high but once getting home and looking online, I see where it sells for $12.95! I understand there should be a profit but almost triple? I recommend them for treatment but think twice before you buy their products. read more

Would never recommend anyone to Dr. Frankel. Wish I could give 0 stars. Double books appointments, sits at her computer with her back to you the whole 5 minutes she's in the exam room, and talks poorly about her employees. I went to her for an issue with a fingernail for almost a year. Was told it was normal and would take time to grow out. Being a nurse I started to question her diagnosis, or lack thereof. It took one visit with another derm office to take a nail clipping and biopsy it. As I suspected it's a fungal infection, and can take up to a year to heal completely with an antifungal medication. You are treated like a number when you go there. Don't ever expect to get in as an emergency appointment because evidently they haven't heard of something called a cancellation list in which a name is added to and called if there happens to be a cancellation. I think that it all tied into the fact that they are overbooked, hence why everyone is literally in and out (I swear the only reason the doctor even looks at you is because the ailment is skin related)...consequently, not the doctor's office for you if you have a dermal issue that could possibly be an emergency. The best part is when I had to go to Garden City urgent care because this office wouldn't take my emergency infected cyst, I caught some lip about how the emergency room doctor didn't do a sufficient job with it...and now here we go a third time and I am looking forward to my appointment with a general surgeon who will take care of this matter once and for all without my spending unnecessary amounts of money and time in emergency rooms due to an incompetent doctors office. read more
