I came here in July to treat myself to a birthday hair cut. I was researching a hair salon with not only good reviews but also affordable pricing. I don't color my hair ever & I tend to go in between hair cuts like...6 months. I know I know. I stumbled across this salon on both Yelp & Google reviews, both consistent with customer feedback being incredibly positive. I get it. I had my hair cut on Saturday by Nora, it was just us two that day. I'm so appreciative of her kindness because I got super lost trying to find the salon, my gps took me on a wild detour. This salon is very close to John Wayne airport & is located in a plaza with a bunch of suites with multiple other small businesses so it can get a little confusing finding your way around. I would say give yourself an extra 10 minutes to get here if it's your 1st time. As for Nora, she was super sweet, totally listened to what I wanted. She made sure prior to cutting that I was comfortable with the length & helped clear any hesitations I had. I felt comfortable trusting her professionalism, craft & recommendations. Her excitement & passion made me excited, I loved her energy. She was so fast & not in a way that felt rushed, but because she's just that talented. My hair cut came out to about $75 not including tip. I was able to use Zelle & tipped in cash. Normally there's an extra charge for a blow out, but I was ok without. She did a light drying of my hair so I didn't walk out with completely wet hair, which I appreciated, allowing my hair to show its natural texture with the haircut. I absolutely loved it & will most certainly be back to see Nora. I've already told my friends & family too whenever they visit OC. read more

Ellie was amazing! I absolutely love my balayage. I only came in because I had made a big mistake with box dye the previous night and had a big emergency. I was hoping that she could just try to make it look a little bit better but she ended up Fixing it and giving me what I had originally wanted in the first place. I rarely get my hair dyed, but I have to say she is so friendly and funny and knows what she's doing. I would definitely recommend going to her! read more

I wish I could put a zero. My sister had an appointment at 3:30 for a women's hair cut without a blowout. We then received a text message saying that my appointment was rescheduled for 6:30, which we were okay with. Once we got there my sister was told that they don't do walk-ins and she clarified that she had an appointment at 6:30. Then the lady which I presume is the owner said that she's the clean up lady and that all the other employees had left. She also stated that they were closed but they close at 8... she just kept saying that she's the clean up lady that she doesn't cut hair. She was very rude and very discriminating. Definitely avoid this hair salon, horrible. read more

I really can't say enough wonderful things about Ellie, and Ellie's Secret Salon. I was recovering from a really tough month, and had gone to a hair salon in my neighborhood for a hair cut, hiighlights, and relaxing experience that I woke up knowing I needed. I rarely get my hair cut, so I was looking forward to it. When I showed up at the first salon. the hairstylist were just really mean and made me feel like a burden. So I left... and in tears. It was late in the afternoon, and I called Ellie's Salon on the off chance I could get in. She answered my call, and said to come on over. She happened to have an opening on the spot. which is rare. She greeted me at the door with a smile, wonderful bubbly energy, and a warm welcome. She listened to me, validated me, and let me know she was going give me a beautiful style and experience, and she did. She was incredibly collaborative, knowledgeable, careful, and precise, and it was like I was getting pampered and cared for at a really nice spa- and coming out with the perfect hair cut and highlight. Listen to what the client wants done. Don't just do what you want and give a completely different cut. This 'stylist' does not have any experience in shorter cuts, up to date trendy shorter styles. Also, very pricey for what was done. Had to go have my hair re-cut/styled at another salon. It may not be noticable on longer hair if mistakes are made however, on shorter hair it's definitely noticable. As she states in her ad, she's a colorist. Not too good at styling. ELLIE IS THE BEST HAIRSTYLIST. She updated my roots as this is the second time I came to her. The first time I went was for my first free hand balayage, and I got compliments the moment I posted photos and videos of myself. She highlighted the rest of my hair today, and this is the prettiest I've felt in my life. I even got a compliment from a random lady exiting the building. Ellie made the roots grow out brown so that the blonde naturally comes out. Ellie is so amazing. She took her time to even brush out, blowdry, and curl my hair after.
