Ocean is my go to for hair color. I was referred to Ocean by a friend in the beauty industry when my hair was damaged from a different hair colorist who wasn't able to achieve the color I wanted. I love coming to One to One because of Lena. Lena is super sweet and fun! I also have such great conversations with her when I see her. But Lena is also a great stylist. She knows exactly how to give you the hair cut you want that also ensures it reaches your hair goals. When I first came to her, my hair was fried because of highlights and applying too much heat. But over the course of a few months, she was able to get my hair back to its original, healthy state. @hairgypsynick SAVED my hair! 6 out of 5 Long story short, I wanted a cherry red fashion color back in 2024 and went to a different salon in Long Beach. I dropped major money on a service that over bleached and damaged my hair so badly it would not hold a color to save my sanity or its life. The pictures don't accurately capture the damage. Imagine seeing this kind of fading after two washes within two weeks of getting a $600 deep cherry red all over color. I went back to the same salon and they tried to fix it by, you guessed it, adding more bleach. I had so many split ends that my hair looked perpetually frizzy. There was breakage and fallout. I couldn't style my hair at all and no product I tried would do anything to my hair. I tried leave ins, color depositing masks, hydrating mask, etc., but I had absolutely no luck or hope of saving the over bleached and breaking hair I had left. By the grace of yelp and a few really good friends, I found Nicky. Let me first start out by saying, she's AMAZING! She is incredibly friendly, took the time to look at and assess my hair damage, needs, and wants, came up with a plan to bring it back to life, and did it all with such an amazing attitude. I literally felt like we were just friends talking about some horror story I had at the old salon. It was basically a mini hair trauma dump session. Leaving the salon that day made me feel increible. My hair has NEVER been healthier. I left with it actually holding a curl, which I hadn't seen it do in about a year. It was so soft and didn't feel like it was going to break in my hands. I could run my fingers through it and not get stuck. It's been about two months since my service and it's still holding the color and absolutely thriving. I know that bad salon experiences are pretty much a canon event, but the glow up an amazing hair stylist like Nicky can give your hair, and your confidence, is too! If you had a bad experience and want to renew your trust in a stylists, and have your hair brought back to life, Nicky is your girl. My fiance has dubbed her the hair wizard and for good reason. Rhys and Josie, her assistant, make the perfect team. After moving from the SF Bay /Sonoma County area, it took me five different hair cutters to find Rhys at Christophe Salon in approximately 2014 or 2015. I was delighted when she changed to One to One Salon, which is devoid of the pretension and snobbery that ran rampant at Cristophe. Rhys is the only hair cutter who was able to connect with me, out of all five previous stylists, on an intuitive level. She knew would look best with my face shape, features, and body size (petite), suit my personality, AND was able to cut with the expertise to which I was so accustomed with my previous SF based stylist. I always leave the salon with a cut that grows out beautifully, giving me diverse styling options to keep my hair style interesting and varied between appointments. Out of all Rhys's assistants, Josie is my very favorite. She is genuinely sweet natured, conscientious, gives great shampoos, and always makes sure my husband I have our beverages of choice fresh, ice cold, and topped off. Rhys and I have corrupted her innocence with our sometimes crude, off-color sense of humor. Visiting and laughing with these two ladies elevates the experience of a simple hair cut to an enjoyable hour I look forward to every time I visit the salon. Salon owners are the most customer service oriented compared to any salon where I've been a patron. Tea, coffee, and even still and sparkling wine are offered to clients and their guests, and there is always an assortment of candy at the front desk. Reception staff are, generally speaking, friendly and attentive. The only suggestion I have for the salon owners os to reconsider the choice of music played in the salon. Over the past year or so, music has changed from a more widely appealing mix of house music, R&B from a span of decades, to repetitive, soulless pop music that is largely unrecognizable. Choosing music that appeals to the salon's distinct and heterogenous clientele would be much appreciated! read more
