This is my first time at Ellie's table. I've had it on my list for a really long time and I finally got to try it. First a little bit of history. It is located in the beautiful historic town of San Juan Capistrano founded in 1776. The two-story red brick and wood building that the Restaurant occupy was constructed in 1883 and served not only as the town's courthouse which was Then presided by Judge Richard Egan. But it also served as Judge Egan's private residence on the second floor. Following years of vacancy, this building has undergone near total interior and exterior restoration, preserving its 1880s structure while converting it for commercial use. It is known as "Egan House". Years ago, prior to its restoration, i had the privilege of walking onto the front porch and peeking through the windows of this old courthouse as it was still vacant and, in its original interior state. Today. As i walked up these wooden stairs once again and onto the front Porch, i was immediately transported back in time. There is lots of free parking around the restaurant. The exterior has 2 outdoor dining areas. One on the side of the building and one along the narrow front porch baluster. The doors and tall windows look very similar. So i almost missed the front door if it wasn't for a printed sign that said "Entrance" next to the entry door. I must not be the only one :) The interior is charming and bright, and maintains its 19th century vintage character blended with modern and vintage decor. The walls are covered with Historical photographs. The indoor dining area is known as "Harmony Hall" There is also a small private dining area on the second floor. Great for a group or a celebration. There are 3 separate restrooms. 1 on the first floor and 2 on the 2nd floor. Not bad for an old building. You order first. Grab your number and find a table. As you stand in line, you'll find a free standing menu rack. I don't see this too often and i think that it's a great idea as that gives you time to look at the menu while waiting in line. As you make your way to the register, you walk along their display case that showcases all the pastries, cold sandwiches and food bar. I really like their menu. So many good dishes. And It offers something for everyone. I love that you can order any of the menu items all day. So, today, I had my breakfast at 2pm :) The menu is too long to describe. So, Please see photos for the complete 6 page menu. I ordered the Spanish Omelette, a peach ice tea with green tea. And for dessert i had a mixed berry crostata. I got my food in less than 10 min. The service was great. I did not realize that there was a self serve utensil and condiments station. So, my server was kind to get me some utensil and showed me where the utensil station was. The Spanish omelette has shredded machaca beef, peppers and onions. Topped with House Salsa, Cotija cheese, Crema and cilantro. I opted to leave out the Crema as i am not a big fan of sour cream. This was one of the best omelettes i have ever had. It was warm. The eggs were light and airy. It was packed with tender and tasty shredded beef. All of these ingredients combined with the delicious mild salsa, fresh cilantro and Cotija cheese paired incredibly well. It is a must have. The Mixed berry crostata had a soft crust on the outside. Moist on the inside with tons of berries partly melted into a marmelade. (I had them warm it up) It was not overly sweet at all which was great. The whole thing was lightly coated with powdered sugar. It was excellent. As for the Peach ice tea. Well it was just a good peach ice tea with green tea and light peach flavored syrup. It was refreshing. Great food. Generous portions. very reasonable prices and great service. Can't beat it. I highly recommend trying Ellie's Table. read more

I can't believe I'd never been here. The place is super cute and the staff is so helpful. I tried the Prosciutto AM sandwich. A toasted ciabatta braid sandwich with a broken yolk sunny side egg, fried prosciutto, alfalfa sprouts, tomato, a whipped gout cheese spread, and pesto. The sandwich was delicious but it could've had way less alfalfa sprouts. I can't wait to go back and try more breakfasts items and pastries. read more

I just recently discovered the old San Juan Capistrano area, and it is so incredibly charming! Ellie's Table absolutely enhanced my experience and added to the whole vibe. It is the cutest little cafe tucked inside a beautiful historic building. They have a great assortment of pastries, breakfast, and lunch items to choose from. I decided to try the Turkey Focaccia, and it was fantastic! The focaccia bread itself was super soft, and it came with a MOUND of perfectly thin shavings of turkey. I also got the chicken salad on the side, and I loved that they included huge grapes in it! It added the perfect little crunch and sweetness. This place is a total gem. If you're exploring the area, you absolutely have to stop by for a bite. read more

What a delightful Saturday morning spent at this cute restaurant set in a historic home in downtown San Juan! There is paid street parking, a smaller public parking lot around the corner where I was lucky to snag a spot, and all day valet for $10 directly behind the restaurant. The line gets long so come early or be prepared to wait half an hour around peak brunch time if ordering from the kitchen menu. They have a great selection of delicious fresh pastries and sandwiches up at the counter - I got a tarragon chicken palm sandwich and a tomato soup. Both were delicious and just filling enough for a brunch meal. The lavender lemonade was also super refreshing for the hot summer day. If you come early enough or get lucky, grab a seat on the wrap around porch! Great experience and reasonable prices. Will be back! read more

Service was great and quite fast. The staff answered our questions to the best of their abilities. It's so nice and cold in there and there is seating both inside and out of the establishment. I got the lucky Charms coffee and while it was great coffee it tasted like lavender to me (I rate it a 8/10). I will most definitely come back for another coffee purchase. I split a coffee cake with my bestie and it was dry :( it tasted more of a carrot cake to me to be honest. I really enjoyed my order of Shrimp tacos although I thought it was spicy but again really good 8/10. There are restrooms in the facility. read more

My friend and I took the train to San Juan Capistrano. We visited the Mission, walked around the market area and I got a tattoo. Wonderful day. We had lunch here and the food was great. You order at the counter, pay, wait for your food and you seat yourself. The price for everything was next to each item, except the salmon toast. When I got to the register, it turns out the salmon/lox toast was $25!!!!!! It was delicious , don't get me wrong, but I would NEVER have paid $25 for it. That was diabolical. A beautiful historic home turned cult favorite brunch spot! Ellie's Table is the most darling little place in San Juan Capistrano. It's located pretty centrally, so parking can be a little tricky. There are a few paid lots nearby! I got the Spanish Omelette and a Strawberry Lemonade. The Spanish Omelette was a hefty one! It came with shredded beef, peppers and onions, salsa, cotija cheese, crema, and cilantro. Probably one of the bigger omelettes I've had- great for sharing! Love me a savory, spicy breakfast. I've been wanting to check this place out for such a long time and I'm sad to say it was so disappointing. I just left and it was not great. First, when you come in it's a bit confusing on where to go. I was standing there looking at the cases of treats while 2 people were infront of me trying to figure out what to order. I knew I wanted the turkey focaccia since that's what I saw online and looked decent. The guy asked if I was ready and ordered and asked if I wanted it toasted. I said yes and if there was anything else, i said no. I just stood there but he didn't tell me to go to the cash register or anything. I go over to the cashier and she asks if I ordered already, I say yes and tell her i got the turkey focaccia and she goes to gets it. In my head, I thought-he just put it in the oven. She comes out with the sandwich in a tiny plate with the turkey overflowing. I can tell it isn't warm. I sit down to eat and I have a half cold and half lukewarm sandwich. The focaccia bread itself is so thin, it can barely keep the sandwich together. I ate it since I paid $8 for it, but it was not good. It was falling apart, it was cold, it was not enjoyable. Disappointed and not sure if I'll be back. I may check out the Irvine location but I'm not running back. read more

This little gem is in the most odd location. I feel like you either have to work close by or know to look for it. I've only been there twice but I do like their food. I just forget about it. This trip I came just for the lemon poppyseed cake and I thought it was very light and tasty. I wish there was more lemon curd on it but I enjoyed the slice. This historic house has turned into a restaurant that offers a casual dining experience with quick great food. You walk up to the counter to order and then can wait inside or outside on the patio. The menu has plenty to offer and the counter has glass displaying bakery items both sweet and savory. The patio has seating areas under a big tree with plenty of shade. Parking is very limited on the property, but there is a lot 1 block south that has plenty of free parking. The location here is central to be able to walk afterwards. Such a cute breakfast/brunch spot with plenty of food options to choose from. They have a small parking lot and lots of outdoor seating. The service is great and workers are all friendly. I tried their bruschetta chicken sandwich, garlic fries, chicken and waffles, and their bacon breakfast burrito. For a drink, I got their limited strawberry rose matcha latte. I was not a huge fan of this matcha, it was way too milky. Out of everything, do yourself a favor and get the chicken and waffles or their bruschetta chicken sandwich. The waffle is perfectly crisp and smells like heavenly vanilla. I would pass on the breakfast burrito, because it was pre-made, small, and the tortilla was hardened. The former house of a judge now converted into a cute cafe near the Mission. The turkey focaccia sandwich is a must try - the focaccia bread is so soft, it is quite different from other sandwiches served on a baguette/ciabatta bread. Another favorite is the kouign-amman when they have it. It has a flaky pastry texture with a custard filling - and the top is bruleed when you order. The cafe ordering system is kind of like an assembly line, you can choose pastries, sandwiches, salads in the display, while other meals and drinks can be ordered at the cash register at the end. There's a few tables indoors, but most of the seating is along the patio outside. read more

First time at Ellie's Table, and I'm already looking forward to the next visit! We were in town looking for somewhere to brunch, and we ended up at this quaint cafe & bakery. Such a good read in the front of this historical landmark btw. Luckily for us, we found street parking around the corner and just walked over. We were welcomed by the beautiful display and array of delicious looking pastries and breads. We grabbed a menu, placed our order, paid at the counter, and got a table outside on their patio. There were amble of tables and chairs inside as well. While waiting for our order, we explored a bit and went upstairs, which showcased a beautiful antique dining table and matching hutch. Order up: - Apple Strudel (warmed up) - Blueberry scone (dusted w/ powdered sugar, yum!) - Strawberry Lavender Lemonade (wish this had free refills, so refreshingly good!!) - Chimichurri Tri Tip Sandwich (theirs was slow roasted and tender, and their ciabatta bread didn't wreck my mouth...must try!!!) - Steak and Egg Breakfast Sandwich (looked equally delish, with an option to upgrade to a butter croissant if you wanted) It did take a while to wait for the sammies, but it was worth the wait. This place is a gen. Cute little building jam packed with people that know the delicious food that this place offers. Handsdown the best quiche I've ever had. This is a must stop location between San Diego and Lake Forest. Service was attentive and food was delivered promptly. I enjoyed the bright Parisian style ambiance. Dogs are welcome on the patio. Today we tried their March Special of Corned Beef Benedict which is a poached egg w/hollandaise/mustard sauce & chives on top of a potato waffle (hash type) & sauerkraut . This is easily a must to appease your St. Patrick's craving of a corn beef breakfast. Very savory and well flavored. We also had the Ellie's Benedict which also has a savory and delectable experience. Really anything with their pastry is likely to have that light buttery texture which is pretty pleasant. Cute and quaint. You would never think of this place serving up coffee and food, but they sure do! Love the old historic feel and the service was relatively quick. They have a full case for pastries, breakfast items, cold salad bar, salads, and a separate menu. Nice restaurant here in San Juan Capistrano, I am assuming that this area is part of downtown. Parking is definitely a challenge. Very limited free parking behind the restaurant. I didn't see any street parking close by. But there is lots of paid public parking in the area. Some are $10, some are $4 for 2 hours. The restaurant itself has inside and outside seating available. Lots of options for everyone. Staff is super friendly, welcoming, and helpful. Atmosphere is nice and pleasant. Very relaxed and friendly. Food was good. My wife had the chilaquiles, I had the Ellie's Table Breakfast Combo. It was all delicious, good seasoning, nice and crispy bacon, it all tasted fresh. Definitely a place to come back to. We came from Lake Forest, so this could be our to go breakfast place whenever we come down this area. Definitely recommend to try! read more

While visiting San Juan Capistrano recently, we decided to try Ellie's Table located close to everything (Metrolink stop, etc) in the middle of downtown. The cafe is located inside Egan's house, a nicely preserved historic building. It was crowded and a tad hectic inside. We placed our order and went outside to find a table. They have tons of seating outside, didn't have trouble finding a cute table. We ordered a Ham and Sandwich croissant and a mixed berry crostata which they warmed up. The savory croissant was delicious with gooey cheese and the crostata was heavy with fruit, extraordinary crust and flavor. Very impressed with their pastry selection, great variety, lots of them. Everything looked great: salads, pasta salad, quiches, sandwiches, etc. Water from the house, they have jugs inside and outside. We also got a Honey Lavender Latte (me) which I savored and my husband a Mexican mocha which he loved. The presentation was outstanding also. Metrolink advertised a deal on their site, present your ticket and a cookie or coffee. No one was aware of it, so didn't get an extra treat. Otherwise, decent service and prices, clean restrooms. Ellie's has wonderful pastries and coffee. If you need to get a bit spoiled for breakfast or lunch, this is the place! read more

This is a place that you must try! My wife has gone several times and always speaks highly of it. She finally convinced me to try it for breakfast today and I'm sad I didn't go earlier. The service is really solid. Everyone is extremely nice and attentive to you. We even had a server go out of his way to refund us a latte that we were charged for but didn't order. He caught the mistake, not us. When I told him not to worry he insisted that they make it right. I respect that immensely and am grateful for their integrity. The food is also amazing. You stand in a line that moves past counters of food. You've got a great variety of pastries and quiche at these counters, but you can also order from the back, items such as Eggs Benedict or Biscuits and Gravy etc.... The menu is varied enough to suit anyone. The hot chocolate and coffee are also delicious and a great way to start your day. There is very little onsite parking but there is plenty of street parking or public lots close by. There is dining inside and outside as well, whatever suits your desires. read more

The absolute cutest cafe in San Juan Capistrano! It's located on their main street with plenty of street parking available (limited parking behind the cafe). The cafe was pretty packed, so it was difficult to find indoor seating, but there was ample room outside with heat lamps. Their croissants are HUGE! I got an almond croissant which was buttery, flaky, and filled with delicious almond paste. The plain croissant was buttery perfection as well. The carrot cake was pretty dense, but had the perfect amount of sweetness and raisins. I loved the frosting on top. I would love to come back to Ellie's and try one of their lunch items! read more
