I got 2 guppies and a snail about 2 weeks ago and now I have 5 guppy babies and an unknown number of snail babies. Watch out.

I've always had an awesome experience here. I have three picky eaters (dogs) who like to try different foods and the guys that work here have always been super helpful and kind and they have NEVER been inappropriate or unprofessional. I also like how they sell the Kennel Cough Vaccine here so I can give it myself before I board my dogs. I recommend this shop to everyone! PS- it's more than a little disturbing that someone would accuse a man of something like that on a yelp review of all places. It invalidates your complaint and makes it seem like you are in need of a serious mental evaluation. read more

"Elliots' Against Pets" would be a better name for this place. I have been keeping tropical fish for more than 20 years, and I have never seen a store keep fish in more deplorable conditions. When I visited they had new fish shipments floating in already overcrowded 10 gallon tanks housing diseased and dead fish. They don't even bother cleaning algae from the fronts of their display tanks, and some tanks are covered so thickly you can hardly see the fish. They sell fish that have been painted with bright colors, "tattooed platties". It's rare to find such abominations in the large chain stores anymore, let alone a small independent shop with total control over inventory. Several fish species were mislabeled. The normally inexpensive White Cloud Mountain Minnow, a relative of carp, was labelled as a "White Cloud Tetra" and sold for the same price ($1.99) as the Cardinal Tetra. I was sick to my stomach by the time I got to the end of the fish aisle. They should stick to selling dog food and other goods that don't suffer from neglect. read more

Wow after several thousand dollars spent here over the years. It's the same thing every time. I called to see if they have aquatic moss. The guys over the phone says yes it's very healthy just got a shipment in today. I drive over there every single moss plant is dry and almost completely dead. I told the guy about the incident he says yea we have to throw out this shipment. I reply I just drove 20 mins can you give me a discount maybe I can bring it back to life your throwing it away anyways right. He says yea 1 dollar discount I walk out and will never do business with this company again. These guys are scam artists unhealthy fish poor customer service all they care about is the dollar. Great pet shop in Riverside! I would highly recommend this place to get all your pets needs rather than Petco or Petsmart. It is MUCH cheaper and the carry a lot of the same things, if not more. My small size kennel was $30 and it has a top and front door. I got a dog bowl for only a few bucks too. This place also has many dog food brands that are 5 star quality & you can't find those anywhere else but these local shops! I highly recommend Orijen and Taste of the Wild. Definitely DO NOT recommend this store. Found out about this store from a friend about a year and a half ago. At first it was the best LFS I had found, and they had pretty reasonable prices on fish, crickets, and tanks. Customer service has declined ever since we started shopping here. There have been times when I've walked in, picked out what I want, and stand around trying to make eye contact with an employee for 30 minutes before deciding it's too much trouble for what it's worth. One employee in particular, Isaac, has actually been sexually harassing towards my sister, one of my friends, and myself for quite some time. His comments ranged from referring to my friend as, "big tits," telling another employee "if she's 16, I'm 16" in reference to my minor sister, and asking me if "it's that time of the month" after interjecting himself into a conversation and being told to mind his own business. This same employee tried to sell me a fantail goldfish that's only worth $3-4 as a $6.99 Shubunkin koi fish. There's absolutely no mistaking a fantail for a koi fish, so this obviously was only an issue because of his personal problem with me as a customer. On top of that, it goes to show he knows absolutely nothing about what he is selling. I only still shop here because they hook it up on crickets, but on more occasion than one Isaac has attempted to over charge for the small amount that I always get. If I'm going to pay extra for crickets, I might as well go to Petsmart and get customer service that matches the price. read more

Dear Boyfriend and I came in for some tools to roust out our overwhelming flea invasion. A staff member greeted us right away and directed us to the appropriate aisle. She quizzed us about the size of our home and let us know how many boxes of flea bombs we'd need. We also checked out the impressive selection of collars and harnesses (since we'll need to take the flea-bitten kitties for a picnic while we bomb the apartment). The overall impression I got is that Elliott's is more than a pet supply store -- it's a community hub for pet owners. The shop windows are covered with fliers for lost or found pets and animals in need of homes. In fact, someone had recently abandoned some cats in front of the store, and the cashier was good-naturedly offering them to everyone while ringing up purchases. I was going to give four stars, but one thing pushed me over to five: They have about a dozen bunnies for sale, and they allow you to pet them. BUNNIES! read more

Eliott's is a fantastic, top quality local pet store. I love shopping there, whether I'm solo or with Bertie, my bichon (found wandering the streets of Riverside, and now a certified therapy dog!) in tow. I strongly prefer making purchases at Elliott's as opposed to at chain stores, so I'm very glad that they have such a good selection, and that they carry Nature's Variety, the awesome raw food that Bertie and our cat Babe enjoy. The staff are quite friendly, and always happy to help carry out a heavy bag of Swheat Scoop to the car. The only reason I'm not giving five stars is that they sell rabbits. I love rabbits, and that's why I have a big problem with this. Like all reputable pet stores, Elliott's does not sell puppies and kittens, and they should extend that policy to rabbits, as well. There are WAY too many bunnies out there, and they're not low-maintenance pets -- far from it. I wish Elliott's would leave the bunnies to the House Rabbit Society and other rescue groups -- then I would happily give them five stars, which they deserve for all other aspects of their store! I urge everyone in the Riverside area to pass up those chain stores and stop by Elliott's. If you have a question, chat with the staff here -- they'll steer you to the right product, or just offer you some good advice. These people are true animal lovers. Even if you don't want to buy anything, take your pet (or not) and go hang out at the store, and check everything out. I am always amazed at all the stuff that's available for companion animals, and I feel like I learn a lot about what's out there every time I go. I also like that there are free samples of pet food, which I particularly appreciated before I settled on Nature's Variety for Bertie and Babe. This place is horrible. Aside from their decent selection their workers I believe are just trying to sell you whatever they can sell to you. After coming here and listening to what they had to say about my fish and the condition it had, makes me regret listening to them and purchasing anything they recommended me to purchase. As a result in less than 24 hours I lost a blue tang and a Clown trigger And almost lost my huma huma because of their stupid responses. I am never coming back here. Never recommending this place to anyone, if anything I'm going to try to keep people from going there. This review is only about their aquarium selection. Most of their salt water aquariums are empty and those that have something in them are minimally stocked. Their freshwater selection is much bigger but most of their containers have multiple dead fish. Some of the carcasses look weeks old, some are only bones. The live fish looked healthy enough but some looked sick. Their aquatic plant selection is mediocre at best and most of their stock was in poor health. read more

Oh man, I was thrilled to find out that there was a smaller pet-store here in Riverside. since I dislike those large chain petstores. My (now-ex) boyfriend and I went here a few months ago to pick out a delightful new companion -- a cute little leopard gecko. I was disappointed to see how more than half the geckos were missing parts of their tail (meaning they had dropped it due to stress from handling) and ALL of them looked half-starved or sickly. I still connected with one of the geckos who I did take home and after a month or two managed to fatten up. She's crazy active and healthy now. Looking at the other animals they actually have at the store (reptiles, bunnies, fish), I can't say they were the brightest, healthiest looking pets. They had the proper environment and were fed and cleaned but it still looked like the minimum was done to keep them alive which is understandable for a business, but still not at all admirable for a petstore. Elliot's does have a HUGE selection of pet food, kibbles, treats and other pet accessories though. And their prices are MUCH more fair compared to the stupid large chain pet-stores. I got a tub of 100 mealworms for $1.99 while Petco charged me nearly $4. Their mealworms are also ALIVE rather than dead (like Petco's). Also, $2 worth of crickets "means" around 120 crickets, but the dude just handed me a bag of nearly 500 which I was perfectly okay with. ;) The service was alright. The people were friendly and helpful but you had to find them to get service. Overall, great pet food selection/prices/quality, poor care for pets, and okay service. read more

When it comes to things for my dog, not only am I picky but she has a sensitive stomach and sensitive skin. Thankfully, Elliott's has everything I need for her; from her grain-free dry food to her chem-free doggy soap. I gave my dog a specific grain-free brand of dog food which they unfortunately do not actively carry however, they are able to special order it for her. I don't get her that brand any more after getting a recommendation for something similar (and less expensive). What I've also noticed is that some items are cheaper here than they are at Petsmart or Petco. ($2.29 for a can of dog food here compared to $2.99 at Petco... hey it's the little things that count.) To top it all off, the folks that work here are always say hello and ask if I need any help. Gotta love that friendly service! read more

This is my new favorite store to shop for all of my pet's needs! I was going to Petco and Petsmart but I couldn't always find specific, more mom-pop type brands and I was amazed when I walked into Elliott's because it felt like Disneyland for pets!!! They carry a HUGE selection of brands including brands I can only get online or at REI like RUFFWEAR! I love that they also carry eco-conscious/friendly brands! I got my puppy a soy leash that'll last longer than the typical nylon ones and homemade blueberry oatmeal heart treats from their bulk treat section! Their prices are super affordable and reasonable! I have to also brag on their customer service because it was the best! The employees are very knowledgeable and you can tell that they love their jobs. I went in also looking for a gold heart tag for my puppy (which are apparently hard to find because i could never get one at petco or petsmart) and one of the employees happily told me that they had them available so I bought one! They can also special order something for you if their manufactures have it. Visited for the first time and will not be returning. Although the staff was friendly and willing to answer questions, I just can't get passed the horrible conditions of their fish tanks. I understand that fish die.....but can't imagine buying a fish when their employee would have to "weed though" the dead ones to find one alive. Filthy and obviously not cared for in any way...I can only hope they're being fed. Not to be overly dramatic -- but if I knew of a "fish protection" agency, I'd be placing a call to report them ! I came here after my boyfriend decided to rescue a turtle from the street. Holly was really friendly and knowledgeable, and she helped me get what I needed to start a home for my turtle. I came back later that day because my boyfriend decided the turtle should live that boujie life . My boyfriend and I went in and we were greeted by David who was also very friendly and knowledgeable. He helped us get everything we needed for our little baby prince/princess (lol break them gender roles) turtle to live the life he/she deserves. We left the store feeling like capable turtle parents. Based off the reviews, I was ready to have my fish needs fulfilled but unfortunately fell very short. Arriving at 6pm on a Sunday, the shop surprisingly had a few guests. We found our way to the back section where they had tanks separated by salt and fresh water fish. Tons to pick from and found one to be a potential tank mate for our fish. Price was reasonable as well so let's just justify the one star with that. When we finally got to our destination, we completed a full cleaning and set up to ensure his welcome to a new home. After watching for a few minutes we noticed an issue with his fin and he completely stayed put in a corner the rest of the night. The next day he looked worse, almost as if his intestines were oozing out the side. I drove back down to Elliott's only to be assured it was an infection and wasn't given any options- no exchange, no solution, no refund , not even the ability to hand the stinky fish back. I didn't want the refund I just wanted my concerns to be heard and someone to listen to them but the associate had the audacity to hint it was my fault. I would think after sometime there would be a window for the problem being mine, yes, but I literally just bought it there that night. I asked what he wanted me to do with it and he said he would most likely be doing the same thing there if I was to take him out back and trash him, making it very obvious at how much they care for the fish there. If there was some concern for it or at least your guest, I would have second guessed Elliott's but for now, I will have to make the drive to Petco. read more

They have an amazing service where you can reserve food if they don't have it in stock Play keep it separate from all the other items so it doesn't get taken and you have two weeks to pick it up.
