I was excited to find a nearby store that carried my preferred brand, as it was much more convenient than my previous retailer. During my first visit, the owner was friendly and accommodating. I was told that the food I purchased qualified for both the manufacturer's frequent-buyer program and the store's own rewards program based on the amount spent. Given the cost of feeding multiple pets a raw diet, these savings programs were an important factor in my decision to become a regular customer. When I returned for my second purchase, however, the price had increased by over $20 per box. I was also told that the brand did not qualify for a frequent-buyer program, which directly contradicted what I had been told during my first visit. I called the store two days later to ask about the significant price increase and the conflicting information regarding the savings program. Rather than receiving a clear explanation, I was told about the expenses associated with operating a business, paying employees, and managing manufacturer price increases. I completely understand that small businesses have operating costs and must remain profitable. My concern was that the manufacturer had already implemented a $10-per-box increase only about four weeks earlier, so I wanted to know whether another increase had occurred. Because the explanation did not resolve my concerns, I contacted the pet food manufacturer directly to verify the product's typical retail price. I was told that the average retail price was approximately $20 to $30 less per box than what this store was charging. What I found most concerning was the timing. During my first purchase, the store's pricing was consistent with other retailers. After the owner became aware that I spend $250-$300 per week on pet food, the price increased substantially on my very next visit. Whether intentional or not, this created the appearance that my purchasing habits may have influenced the price I was charged. I am not writing this review as an uninformed consumer. I have spent 30 years working in the pet health and nutrition industry, and I fully appreciate the challenges local, independently owned businesses face. I support reasonable markups and understand that prices can vary between retailers. However, the combination of a sudden $25-per-box increase, conflicting information about the frequent-buyer program, and the lack of a straightforward explanation left me feeling that my trust--and my commitment to prioritizing my pets' nutrition--was being taken advantage of. Without hesitation, he told me to bring her in so he could take a look. As soon as we arrived, Anthony knew exactly what was wrong and what needed to be done. He took her in for rehabilitation for a week, and when I came back to pick her up, she was 100% better and back to her normal self. Anthony did all of this out of the kindness of his heart, and our family is incredibly grateful for his help and expertise. It's rare to find someone who genuinely cares not only about reptiles but also about the families who love them. The shop is always clean, the staff is friendly, and the service is professional.
