It's pretty good. I want it to be great, but I just can't bring myself to say that. It's not that they're not worth going to, don't get me wrong; it's just that it's not all that it's cracked up to be. For the prices, I expect to be roundly impressed. And while I've never had a bad meal here, I also don't think I've ever been particularly blown away. The presentation is usually spot on, but sometimes the flavors or the preparation are slightly off the mark. I've gotten undercooked pasta that clearly needed to stay in the boiling water for another minute. I've gotten dishes where I thought to myself, 'Yeahhh, but I could do this at home, and I could do it better.' I've also had some really nice dishes that inspire me to do things at home in the kitchen. So it's never bad, or even mediocre; it's just not quite up to my standards for what I'm paying. Oh, and service can also be spotty. I've definitely sat at the bar for like ten minutes without being acknowledged, and this was on an uncrowded night. Other times though, I've been well attended to and well taken care of, so it really seems to depend on who's on staff that particular night. I'd suggest giving them a try, so that you can see for yourself; and maybe, it's just that I'm an old grouchy grumpster with ridiculously high standards at this point in my life, but who knows? read more

We were looking forward to the night at EOL. Sadly, overall an average experience. The quality of the food was overshadowed by the sub-par service. It took 15 minutes to have the waitress come to the table and 30 minutes for the first drink to arrive. Inconsistent service throughout the meal. Love his place. Food is always fantastic. The menu is quite diverse and they have consistent specials. This would be my 5th time eating here and I only give it 3 stars to really drive home how bad melody was. She was our server tonight and started off the night by semi explaining the specials, followed by the " I'm new here" explanation as to why she was not well versed in the changing specials menu. My brother then asked what was on tap to which she responded, " I'm not sure it's only my second day". Not an offer to find out, not a list of bottles to read off of, which I showed my brother was clearly part of the menu. She was extremely disconnected and not helpful. Combine that with mistimed apps and entrées and the night just fell apart. Asked for my dessert, which as 25 minutes late, to be wrapped to go without the ice cream it came with, just to get out of there in a reasonable time. We ate here the day after Christmas. It was freezing out! I would imagine the feel changes when it is warmer. We started out at the bar. It was a great experience the bartender was friendly and it was a great spot to sit before we got our table. Once seated for dinner we ordered the tuna tartar, calamari, and chopped salad to start. The manager Ben apologized and gave a tray of cheese,etc. at 8:30 we still did not have our meals. I went to bathroom and heard screaming and profanity from kitchen. The food arrived. Honestly, where do I begin! It was hands-down the best two meals that I've had the past two times that I've been there. The service is the superb all of their waiters and waitresses are very attentive and they know that me and you and make great recommendations for both the wine and food pairing's. The hostess which is also the chef's wife is so nice and she beams with pride in her and her husband's establishment because over the course of several years they have definitely made a great name for themselves. They have something for everyone with the exception of vegetarian but I'm certain they can whip up something because the ship is very creative and experience very good. The location is in a really nice area the drive going in is very scenic you'll see a lot of homes and golf courses. I would highly recommend making reservations at open table so that you can ensure you have a spot to enjoy your dinner because it is definitely a local spot and they fill up quite quickly during the mid to late week or we can simply call the restaurant and then be happy to accommodate A reservation for you. read more

Had dinner with several girlfriends tonight at EOL. SERVICE WAS HORRIBLE!! this restaurant charges big city prices for good not great food so you would expect Great Service. The owner Mark Elliott was in house- in fact sitting with friends at a table next to ours. We took him aside when we were leaving to let him know how disappointed we were. (This is a small town) surprisingly Marks dismissive response was THIS IS MY NIGHT OFF. ITS NOT MY PROBLEM. PLEASE TALK TO MY MANAGER. Really Mark???? That's how the owner of the restaurant responds?? You obviously do not care about your customers. When we told him we wouldn't be back he could have cared less. Just shrugged his shoulders. Was an amazing experience. We are lucky in that there are quite a lot of nice restaurants in this area. In my opinion Elliot's is the best. The desert was amazing and they had a very unique and tasty cocktail menu. The main courses were perfectly cooked. My girlfriend had an amazing pot pie, I had a perfectly cooked medium rare steak, and our friend had the grilled salmon. They also offer cooking and drink making lessons! I hate to give such a low rating based on service but this one was ridiculous. The food was outstanding and I'd give it 5 stars. We had the homemade Chili Cheese Tater Tots to start, and they were fantastic. The chili was a elk/bison mix with a little kick, very good. I had the Rabbit Pot Pie which was fantastic and my girlfriend had the appetizer portion of scallops and the mac and cheese. Both were very good; the scallops were seared to perfection. All the food was very fresh and local. I give the two stars because having to wait an hour and a half for your food strictly because of the server is a bit much for me. Plus, the manager walked by about a dozen times and it was obvious things were not good... she could not have cared less. it was no fault of the kitchen, just bad bad service. I probably should have said something to the manager but I was so aggravated that it wouldn't have been a nice conversation and my girlfriend asked me to be nice. We may return to see if this was a one off, but I'm not sure. Your experience may be different, however, the food is worth a stop. read more

Great menu, great drinks, and great atmosphere. I loved everything about this place. I got a bloody Mary, fries, and the fish tacos. I gobbled everything so fast and finished all of it even though I was stuffed after the 1st taco. The portions are well sized too. Looking at the menu I will definitely make this my "go-to" whenever I'm in town. There's so much stuff I want to try! We made reservations for my boyfriends 30th birthday. We sat outside with another couple at a separate table. It took about 10 minutes for someone to come bring us water. I asked how the cheek was and the girl replied that she didn't know if it was "the face or the butt". We ordered a beer and a glass of wine. It took quite a bit of time for that to arrive and our server didn't bring us a wine glass, just the carafe. She told another girl to bring the glass. About 15 solid minutes later another couple sat, got their wine and glass, while I didn't have a glass. My boyfriend walked in to ask for one at this point. Our water was empty and a several minutes later we had to also ask for water from a passing by server. By this time the couples around us had received their food. My boyfriend's beer had been empty for a bit now. Two servers (we never saw the same people twice) came rushing out and sat our food down. I had duck and it was presented beautifully while my boyfriends steak was cooked perfectly. We both took about three bites and looked at each other because it was cold and neither of us wanted to say it out loud. We then asked for a manager because for the price we were paying for we expected much better service than this. The manager comes over and we explain what has happened and have we've been at the restaurant for almost 1.5 hours at this point. She apologizes and asked if we wanted our food reheated. With steak we didn't want to do that not with the duck. She asked if there was anything she could do to make it better. We asked if we could have the food taken away and leave. It's not our job to figure out how to rectify the situation and we wanted to leave so we could at least spend the rest of his birthday eating something. She also offered to remake the dish but having a meal thrown together just to fix the mistakes of your service was not the experience we were looking for for a 30th birthday dinner. We ended up getting Whispering Pies to go on the way home and it was delicious and hot with great service. TL;DR: If you're looking for a five star style restaurant or even a "nice" place for a celebration, look elsewhere. read more

We celebrated our 34th anniversary dinner here and it was very nice. The wait staff celebrated and took pictures of us and provided a complimentary champagne. Our cheese board was wonderful. My husband had the double Elk chop which was cooked to perfection and I had the rack of lamb. We had an excellent bottle of wine and topped it off with a cheesecake for dessert. Lots of restaurants have jumped on the "local, fresh, farm to fork" bandwagon - at Elliotts, local products translate from rustic to elegant, global cuisine. Keep an eye out for their Farmers Series - a series of dinners that highlight one local purveyor. With friends, I was able to attend the Pork (Cane Creek Farm out of Snow Farm, NC), Lamb (Santa Maria Farm, Foxfire, NC) and Beef (Hilltop Angus Farms, Mt. Giliad, NC) event. Production level was spectacular for all three events. Chef Mark Elliott gave an hour-long presentation (assisted by each farmer) on how the restaurant breaks down and utilizes all parts of the animal. There was also a leisurely question and answer period, followed by a multi-course feast highlighting the theme of the evening. Informative, delicious, and I'll happily take part in events that shift our economy back to strengthening our local regions. Bravo, Mark and crew! read more

I have been to Elliott's several times now and it has always been a delightful experience. NOT tonight. My party waited for over 90 minutes for our food to arrive. When our food did arrive it was piecemeal. One person would be served and an half an hour later someone else in our party would be served. We asked the waiter several times about our food and was told it would be out "soon." What was the worst is that we had the first reservation of the evening and other parties were being served their food long before we were. This was my grandmother's birthday dinner and we were extremely disappointed with the service and the food, which was not up to the usual standards. Took my in-laws there last night for a late Christmas dinner. I echo the "star" rating - - it's "as good as it gets". The entire evening - food, service & ambiance - was absolutely perfect. Samantha was our server and she had (per my "open table" rez request) saved us a quiet table in the corner (even though the place was empty). We had the special appetizer (which was a shrimp/salmon/sausage cake) & the dumplings. The dumplings were adequately good - the seafood cake was out of this world! Our table had the Cowboy Skillet (it was extremely tender beef - tasted like a fillet, but I can't remember what it was advertised to be), 7 oz filet, the Wreck Fish & the Salmon. All 4 entrees were some of the best food I've ever had. The Salmon was so flavorful, the Wreck Fish was similar to a grouper (very thick "steak" - not a filet) and it was very good, just not the best thing on the table. My filet was perfectly cooked (extra rare) and huge! The sauce was lovely, with chunks of (I think) pancetta. If I had to find fault with anything, there may have been too much sauce. :) Wow. The service (Samantha) was great - attentive, but not overbearing.. I had a little wine left and they encouraged us to walk around (while I finished my drink) to see the gifts/art. Amazing food. If you look at all my other reviews, I'm a pretty harsh critic......so when I give 5 stars....I really mean 5 stars. The ambiance is casual and the wait staff is very attentive. Although we were the only people in the restaurant for about an hour. The menu is interesting and exotic. Usually if you go to a steak house you get steak, and if you go to a seafood restaurant...you get seafood....well...Elliot's does both superbly. We ordered the scallops and seared pork belly for appetizers...both were exceptional. For entrees, we ordered salmon (which isn't on the written menu) and the bison. The bison melted in your mouth....i could almost cut it with a fork it was so tender. The salmon was perfectly cooked, moist with a very tasty outer glaze. Their menu online doesn't post the prices....which always indicates a very expensive restaurant. All entrees were high $20s-$30s. Take Home Message (THM): This review is much shorter than most of my others because I have very little to say. It is easily the best restaurant in the southern pines/pinehurst area, and may even be the best food I have ever had. You will easily spend more than $100 for two people (and that's without alcohol).....so if you have the cash....I highly recommend it. Although I still can't understand for the life of me how and why restaurants in this area set their menu prices so high. Too many rich, retired, white golfers I guess. read more

First visit to Elliots and very impressed. Our server was very knowledgable and helpful. The food was delicious. Only complaint is the long waits between getting drinks and food from time of ordering. I thought dessert would never arrive. I probably wasn't prepared for the length of the evening and now I know so I will be prepared next time. We got there at 7:15 and left at 9:45. Certainly no turnover of the tables. Very nice decor and atmosphere. While the quality of food is fantastic, I was disappointed by the quantity, especially with appetizers. The crab cakes were about the size of a silver dollar...4 of them doesn't make 1 crab cake at any other restaurant. The service was great. Prices are in line with fine dining, but I have a problem with a $12 bloody Mary. Not sure if I'd go back, simply based on price and I left a little hungry. read more
