    Meet the chef!
    Carolyn W.

We were at Elm Street for a late lunch (beer, bbq pork, wings, fried pickles) Buddha bowl won't brisket), when Chef came out to take pictures for tonight's (Sept. 18) special: tenderloin with a white wine mushroom gravy and squash and cornbread. We got three dinners to go home from Muncie to Carmel (along with wings, leftover Buddha bowl with brisket and two growlers. We love Elm Street and it is an honor to meet the man behind a meal that holds a ****+ blind rating after an hour long ride packaged in a styrofoam box. Imagine it hot with their wings, brew, and Wednesday open mic night at a high top, booth, patio, or family and friends sized table.

Stopped in and got the brisket sandwich with Cole slaw and a side of fries. I got my sandwich with no bun and it was good. The ranch was very good and the horsey sauce was decent. The server did a good job she was efficient. The decor was great. It was wooden and industrial and had some antique pieces.

Came to town to pick up some salon furniture and ended up swinging by for dinner! The location is great with its industrial setting and design. The back yard and stage area is very large and welcoming as well! The service was great! The kitchen just seemed to be a little more behind than normal the way our server kept apologizing on the food taking its time. We went with the smoked wings to share and they were incredible! The Smokey flavor and crunchy skin was a combo to drool for! I ended up with the house breaded pork tenderloin sandwich and smoked loaded potato! Which was delicious! My friends got the grilled cheese with smoked pork and loved it! And my other friend got the brisket cheese steak as a wrap and said it was super flavorful! All in all this place was a great choice and next time I am in the area I will be back for sure!

I planned a Muncie daytrip & really talked this place up based on what I read online, but I didn't realize it was Ball State's summer graduation day and this is basically where everyone has their celebratory gatherings! After a minimum of 5 dead-ends due to closed roads the map app was unaware of, we arrived to find a line out the door as large groups waited to get seated. This made my small party of 4 concerned that we'd wait forever to be seated but I stood firm: I could smell awesome smoker grills going and the building's so cool! After 15 minutes, we were seated in the roomy, industrial ambience of the revived Muncie Ice & Coal building. Our server was nice, and after a few questions revealing the menu was a condensed version due to graduation day, we managed to place our order. Found it strange the menu listed buttermilk chicken tenders for kids menu, but they wouldn't let us order an adult plate of them, but, ok, there's other options. Waters were filled & my cocktail was great but we never got an opportunity for beverage refills - as we waited 1 hour for our meals. I realized they're busy & we were enjoying the live guitar music & singer so we tried not to be a bother, but we started to wonder if we'd been forgotten and I honestly would have reordered my cocktail at least 2 more times if I'd had the chance. We weren't alone in the bar area, and didn't see anyone served before us, so assumed it's just a very busy day. The cheese pizza was underwhelming (def for kids - kinda like Chuck E Cheese) and husband was disappointed with the pork tenderloin (he tries them throughout the Midwest). However, huge thumbs up on grilled or smoked menu items! Elm St burger cooked medium and tasted good. Chicken wings were flavorful and such ample sauce for dipping, I didn't use as much blue cheese dressing as usual - so happy the seasonal special sauce was garlic parmesan. Two of us would return but, sadly, it would take dragging the other 2 of us back. And, for a brewery that can seat 300, the sparse # of restrooms was so strange? Maybe staff were honestly too busy to let those of us waiting know there were others in the building? And it's a good thing when loads of people choose this place for their big celebration day, right? But, maybe not forget us little tables?

We had a nice time here and the food was good. Their signature wing dry rub was pretty epic. The beer is GREAT. Good spot for date night, solo date night, families, girls night, etc. no dogs allowed inside because of the food. We will definitely have to come back bc by the time we got here we were absolutely exhausted from our trip.

Cool pace, service was good, enjoyed the visit. Some restaurants are so amazing you can't wait to go back. Food was okay, no one finished their plate and none of us wanted a box to take home. We won't be back for a meal. Brisket was too dry, and says they cook then grill it to order. I think this causes it to be overcooked, dried out and lots of charred bits. Fried pickles were the best thing we had today.

Working in Muncie and decided to stop in for dinner and beer. I was worried upon arrival as all the parking areas were packed. Luckily the brewery is extremely room with lots of spaces to sit. Good beer selection with several of there own and some other selections on tap. I had a couple scotch ales and sampled a couple others. The food menu has lots of selections - burgers, pizzas, smokehouse sections. I opted for the smoked Rueben brisket sandwich and loaded tots. Good beer and good food and good atmosphere.

Delicious twist on a classic. Smooth overall, you can taste the bourbon that gives it a extra kick!

Missing the old Elm Street. Last couple of visits have not been good so we thought we would try it one last time. Big mistake. Our server was nowhere to be found. The fried pickles were very salty and overcooked. Out of favorite beer so went with another; YUCK. Marking this place off our list. The one star is for the Mac & cheese; it was really good. We thought the downhill slide was due to COVID but I don't think it is. Would give less than one star if possible.

Really not your typical brewery. Didn't see any brewing equipment. But a beautiful place inside. We only had one drink each , to be fair. But the food menu was great and the food we saw looked awesome. This might be more of a restaurant than a brewery but beer selection, in house and guests, was plentiful.

Has the smoker situation been figured out?

Can we bring kids to dinner here, or is it only for 21 and up?

You can bring kids. I saw many kids when we were there last night. There are bars but they are partitioned off with a railing.

That right there told me they don't mind being different in the style of food they serve! After checking over the menu full of wraps and burgers amongst a plethora of other bar food I ended up getting some wings to try and the house made chips. I got half my wings in the BBQ flavor and the other Buffalo. Being honest the wings weren't anything special but they did hit the spot and the BBQ sauce wasn't anything special to me on the wings but if it was used in some pulled pork or ribs I believe I would enjoy it more. The buffalo sauce was really good and had just enough heat to need the ranch here and there. The house made chips were good, not overly seasoned and not over cooked either. The place is small but has a handful of high top round tables and a few bigger square tables in the front with a decent bar strip with plenty of bottles and beers on tap. The pool table in the side room looked like a great area to hang around and play some pool while enjoying some beers with the company of friends. Next time I'm in town I will try one of their countless burger options!

How great can the food be, really? Um, pretty freaking great, actually. The fish was perfectly crispy on the outside, and flaky and soft on the inside. It's the type of thing that I didn't want to stop eating, because the combination of textures was just perfect. Handhelds are served with a side, and I chose the side Caesar salad. It was an OK Caesar, and it did its job to satisfy my CaeSal craving. It comes with red onions on top, which is a choice. Even when I stepped inside, the lobby looked like an office with some merchandise of the brewery on hand. I was greeted by the mom of the owner and she welcomed me back into the brewery (it looks like a big garage) where the vats sit out just behind the bar. I grabbed one of the seats and decided to go with a flight ($7) of five of the six beers. They weren't arranged in any particular order on the taps, so I didn't necessarily drink them in the optimal order, but I was pleased with the flavor on all of them! I started with a Hopscotch Scottish Ale with hops (4.4% ? IBU) that had a pleasant blended flavor where the hops were forward, but not overpowering. I moved on to the Moe's Cream Ale (5%, 10) which seemed especially sweet after the hopped scotch. Very smooth and tasty! The amber (5.3% ?) was probably my least favorite of the flight. It was okay, but didn't stand out from the others. The White River Stout (4.8%, 34) was a little different from most stouts I've tried. It had the deep rich coffee flavor, but there was a hint of some mystery flavor I still can't quite identify, but would say it was almost tart....but not in a bad way. Just a nice flavor with a little something extra. I finished off the flight with the Black IPA (8%, 81) which was another good beer. Plenty of hops, but not overly bitter. I did get to sample the Windy Kilt (Scotch Ale/Wee Heavy) and was surprised that for 9% (27 IBU) beer, the alcohol didn't overpower the other ingredients! It was delicious and balanced. Probably the most enjoyable high alcohol beer I've had! Right now, the space is a bit cluttered and isn't big enough to meet a bunch of friends. It also closes at 6 p.m. during the week. But good news is that the owner is trying to reopen a taproom nearer to downtown (Hoyt and Liberty) late in the summer. From what I was told, it should have plenty of parking and lots of space for customers AND equipment. Not sure if the operations will close on the south side, but even if they brew one place and serve at another, that would be a definite improvement to the visitor experience. I got to talk with a couple of the folks who work there and one of their customers while enjoying my visit. Seems like a friendly group that like to share good stories and listen to a few of mine. Good place! A definite place to bookmark, especially if they get their new expanded location. Review #2622
