I am a total food snob and didn't think much of this place till I actually came here to eat, thinking it would be like a Dennys. ... well let me tell you what this place completely blew my mind. The food is unbelievably delicious! The eggs benedict with crab is out of this world! The hollandaise sauce is so yummy, best I've ever had. The German pancake is wonderful. Yhe potatoe cakes are soooo good. The service is great and everyone who works here is so friendly. Also as a lesbian couple me and my wife feel completely comfortable eating here. We came here after a horrible experience at a different Elmer's. This one should be a training place for all Elmer's. The service was great and fast. It took less then 10 minutes to get seated (with a wait since it was Sunday after church) our drinks and food ordered. We recently celebrated a 60th wedding anniversary with a group of about 14 people. We just can't say enough about the excellent service and good food that Elmers provided. First of all- WOW! We came from South Lake Tahoe to get to Salem and stopped off at a random exit to find some food other than McDonald's (yuck!). We were promptly seated but noticed there was only one more pair of customers and that they were about to leave. The manager casually informed us that they were closing in 15 minutes- I apologized for the inconvenience but he was polite and said no worries to just take your time. I ordered the steak sirloin, my man ordered the lobster salad and our friend ordered something off of the "special" menu- I guess that is something that that particular restaurant is doing. It basically means that they give you a survey for it so they can add it to their regular menu (another thing I thought was rad). Not only did my Mashed potatoes taste like home made but my sirloin was cooked to perfection. My man with his salad also devoured his which must've meant he enjoyed it as well. We have visited this restaurant 4 times in the past 2 years and think the food is excellent. The service is also excellent. The atmosphere is muted, rustic, comfortable... The one factor that keeps us from going there more often is the accessibility. It's not good. I'm wheelchair bound and the parking spaces for handicapped is difficult to navigate and not smooth. There are two swinging doors that are impossible for one person to pass through. So we probably will not go there any more. read more

I stopped in for lunch on Saturday afternoon. I was in a hurry and only had around 30 minutes to get in and out (I did not mention this to the staff). I was seated almost immediately, which surprised me because the place was fairly busy. The server, Haley, was at my table within a minute of sitting down to take my drink order. I asked what she would recommend and I took her up on it. She was back with my drink a moment or two later and I had my food WAY before I expected it! AND it was delicious!! Under the most pleasant Supervision of a wonderful General Manager Melinda Butler this restaurant is one of the cleanest and most friendliest places to eat. My favorite meal is breakfast and I won't go anywhere else. The staff is friendly, helpful and definitely catering to your wants. I love Elmers, however, tonight was a little disappointing because we went there especially for Prime Rib and they ran out. It wasn't even 7p.m. on a Saturday night. Today I went in and ordered the Sun Valley Chicken Sandwich. It was tasteless. It was like hot lump of mush in my mouth, and the only thing that had any flavor was the bacon. I did not order a hot mush and bacon sandwich. On top of that, when the waitress asked if the food was good, when I told her that my sandwich had no flavor she said, "Well, it's got swiss on there." in a snotty voice. Yes, I know, I did read the menu. She seemed almost offended, and when she dropped off anything after that she dropped it on the table without a word. She was incredibly rude. The girl who rang us up was much more polite, and apologized for the sandwich. Still doesn't make up for terrible food and rude service. No thanks, not spending my money there again. read more

We stopped in last night (Tuesday - July 18th) to Elmer's in Albany Oregon because it was getting late and it was one of the few restaurants still open. We are traveling across the country from Jersey and we like trying local spots instead of nation wide chains that we have back home. Elmer's fit the bill. We had never heard of it before and saw it on a previous exit on the I-5 so decided to stop and give it a try. We were very happy we did. When we got there, it was after 9:00pm and there were only two tables occupied. We were seated right away and our waiter Lance was great. Even though he was closing, he never made us feel rushed. The food was excellent. I had the Cascade Club and it was delicious. My wife had the half and half of sandwich and soup and she said hers was great too. My daughters had the fish and chips and half and half of turkey and fresh fruit and they both loved theirs too. My son had the bacon cheeseburger and asked for it plain without lettuce, tomato and sauce. Unfortunately, it came with sauce because Lance was new and didn't know the correct terminology for ordering the burger "dry". Lance was so apologetic we felt bad asking for a new burger. The manager also came over to apologize. We said it wasn't a big deal and it certainly wasn't but they rush to correct the issue and had another cheeseburger out in a few minutes. But the Manager, who was such a great guy and a Navy man too, refused to take our word that it was no big deal and comp'd the burger completely. Very nice of him! I was very happy with our experience with the staff and the food and will absolutely recommend this restaurant and will visit again if we are in the area. read more

Very impressed with our experience overall. The service was efficient and nice overall. We ordered their prime rib and are pleased with the quality and value. Grass fed beef, quality vegetables and ingredients for a fair price was what sold me on the prime rib. My only minor gripe if anything is that only tables of four or more get a bread basket. My wife and I stopped into Albany for breakfast on our way to Portland. We will normally just grab McD's or another fast food and eat on our way. Older folk love this place. Portions are half that of Roger's and this place charges for coffee. Gravy on the hashbrowns is I believe $1.50 extra. Some chairs are plush. Some simple hard wood. The salad bar is about $6.95 or more and the plates are small and you get one trip only. Good soup but at about $6.90 with coffee to rich for my blood. Most meals not tasty. Possibly cooked healthy for older patrons. A special might be $12.95 and small here compared the $6.95 elsewhere. read more

We were driving from Portland to Bandan and decided that a break was warranted. The nearest restaurant was Elmers which is not usually one of our top choices because we like more local flavor. Boy, were we pleasantly surprised! The manager, Christina, welcomed us warmly, seated us in a lovely quiet booth, and told us that our server was busy serving a large table but we would be with us shortly. We really appreciated her letting us know what was going on. Our server, Neil, could not have been more gracious or pleasant. The food came quickly and was freshly prepared and quite tasty. Inconceivable (my husband has been watching too much Princess Bride). We would be happy to return there the next time were in the area. read more
