We came here to celebrate my daughter's birthday and had a table of 6. It's been several years since we've eaten here and she was excited to try it for the first time. I wish I had something better to say, but the food was mediocre at best. Five of us ordered the fillet at $55/ea. As soon as I cut into mine, my husband leaned down to smell it because it had an off-putting smell. There was NO flavor and the reduction "sauce" that normally comes on top tasted like canola oil. We ordered potatoes au gratin and creamed spinach as sides and they, too, were sub par. After tip our bill was over $500. This restaurant came highly recommended by a local, and it did not disappoint! Being from Texas, where we have some incredible steakhouses, I was blown away by how the filet mignon here was the best I've ever had. We also tried the sautéed crab claws for an appetizer, which were delicious. Some in our group had the tamales and really enjoyed them, though I found them a bit too salty for my taste. I have grown up loving Shapley's, having a great relationship with the owners and staff, and always appreciated their quality of food and atmosphere for a fine dining experience. Tonight, I was disappointed with the very poor quality of service I received from the bar staff. We felt neglected entirely. 5* food ALWAYS 2* service occasionally I strongly recommend not allowing training staff members to take customers at the bar (on a busy Friday evening) when they are not prepared to provide the service that Shapley's has a tradition of providing. I hope that when in town visiting again, that the service is better and more considerate. read more

This is my favorite restaurant by far in all of the Jackson area. Not only does the filet a melt in your mouth but, from the moment you sit down the standard has been raised. The tables are not stacked on top of each other. There are privacy walls so you can enjoy the conversation at your table. The service has never been anything but, very professional. The Mississippi Bail Agents Association and Ms Prosecutors Association hosted a legislative thank you dinner here. My first time going. Every detail was perfect for our group. Cocktails were served promptly, and accurately. The appetizers served were fresh, extremely popular, as our guest left none when the plates were taken away. Our meals were served also very timely for such a large group. Food temperatures were also proper and at temperature. The meal itself was equally delicious and very satisfying. As a host of an event, we pay attention to how well our guests finish their meals. Ending the meal with a variety of desert options made for an excellent event. Management and the server staff assigned to us were absolutely perfect. I could not have asked for anything more perfect. I look forward to returning for date night. First, this was our first time going and they sat us in a room and not out on the floor. I don't know why... we wanted a romantic dinner date... but we got a boxed off room that I assume they use for large groups... since it was just the two of us... it was ODD. I would have liked to see the decor of the place as I did notice the tables appeared to intimate... the only thing good about sitting away from everyone in this box was our waiter. He was very nice. Eventually two GROUPS were sat in the box with us... and then another couple. But this was at least an hour later so I'm sure by now the place was crowded. WE HAD RESERVATIONS... so again I don't know why two people would be placed in a boxed off room so early on and while the restaurant was NOT CROWDED. So if we ever go back, I will see if they sit us in the box again. As for all of that I STILL RECOMMEND ELYS for a romantic intimate dinner! Now on to the good! It was good! No issues. It's a good steak. We both had ribeyes. Au Gratin potatoes, and creamed spinach and the table fries. The fries are exactly like the fries from Stamp burger so there's your point of reference on them. Nothing spectacular as I said it was a good and Well seasoned ribeye. The drinks were very nice. We also had the marinated crab claws. My only issue is that they are a cold dish and not hot, (unlike Elys) but they were still tasty! Anyway... good place priced adequately for what you expect and that's that. read more

Weird experience. Went for dinner last night with a reservation at 7:30. Arrived right at 7:30. Was happily greeted upon entry by a female hostess. Told her our name and a male host beside her abruptly interjects and says in a stern tone it's going to be 15 mins before our table is ready and go to bar area. No apology, no sincerity. We had my 11 year old daughter with us so this wasn't ideal, but we went. I walked back to ask the host if we could sit in the main dining area and he essentially said you'll sit wherever the first table is available in a very grumpy tone. We got on our phones and made a reservation at Ticos. We told the host to cancel our reservation. He asked the name. And scratched it off. Didn't ask why. Didn't seem to care in the least. Ticos was great. But I really hate this experience because we used to really enjoy shapleys. read more

I arranged a birthday dinner for my niece in mid March. I don't live in Jackson, and had to plan the gathering by phone. I'd never been to MMShapley's. I received such kindness and concern from Jeffrey Shapley regarding the accommodation of my guest party of 12. He was compassionate and interested in my plans to keep the gathering a surprise. When I arrived with my niece all the guests had been seated and everything was BEAUTIFUL. She was quite surprised. I have been fortunate to travel, and I've dined at many restaurants in the USA and abroad. The food, everything on the menu, is the best and most deliciously prepared food I've had ANYWHERE. We were attended by a very patient, professional, and delightful waiter named Trey. He is an asset to the wait staff of the establishment. The entire experience is one I, my niece, and our guests will remember for a long time. Never forget. They have a secret ingredient, magic potion, for French fries that make them addictive. There are none like them anywhere else on the planet. I can't adequately describe how delicious they are. Your dining experience at MMShapley's will be amazing and phenomenal. I'm providing 1 star only because 0 was not available. I came into the restaurant as a first-timer with an all African American group of highly experienced professionals from various backgrounds. Maybe that was the first issue, based on how we were treated in the end. Nonetheless, my colleagues and I were prepared to indulge in the restaurant's food that was described as delicious, only to be highly disappointed by the terribly prepared meal and horrendous customer service received by the wait staff and management. We had a reservation for 7pm and was not allowed to be seated until all of the guests arrived. Even after everyone arrived, they would not seat us until right at 7pm, and not a minute sooner. We were seated in a closed off room with two other African American groups, away from the remainder of the restaurant. We figured the room was reserved for larger parties. We later realized there were other larger parties of people that looked different than us being seated in another larger room on the opposite side of the restaurant. And when I say different, they were different in color than us. Odd, right? Moving on to the service: Our waiter's name was Rashid. The drinks ordered were brought to us incorrectly and the waiter blamed the bartender for the mistake instead of owning his part in the issue. When our food finally came out, it was cold and not what was ordered. For every guest that ordered a Ribeye, those steaks lacked tenderness and they were ALL butterflied. Rashid informed the party the restaurant does this for every Ribeye ordered if it is of medium temperature or more. The Manager came later and when questioned about the butterflied Ribeyes, he stated this is done for larger parties. It appeared to us as if they had crossed up their stories and were not on the same page. Further, the guests that ordered Stuffed Shrimp entrees received them ice cold, as if they had been plated 20-30 minutes before being brought to our table. What a disgrace! The best thing we received were the salads that came with our entrees. If we wanted good salad only, we could have visited The Salad Station in Flowood. Rashid spilled steak grease down the back of one of the guest's linen dress and ruined it. It also got in her freshly washed and styled hair. Thankfully, the food was cold so it didn't burn her skin like it could have. The waiter called the Manager/Owner, Jeffrey Shapley, to assist with the issues we incurred. Jeffrey provided apologies and told the guest with the damaged hair and clothes that he would compliment her meal and pay for dry cleaning. We all explained to him the dress was completely ruined. His response was, "I'll have to hear that directly from the dry cleaners before I do anything about it." Ultimately, by the end of this horrific experience, Rashid misplaced one of the guest's debit card. He blamed it on her, stating that she was "childish for not being able to keep up with it." He also surprised the entire table by blurting out, "I've been sick of YOU PEOPLE since you sat down." And then proceeded to tell the guest of the card he misplaced very profane language that I could not possibly write here. Let's just say the phrase began with a "F" and ended with a "you." I'm sure you can use your creative skills here to figure out what he said to that particular guest. We were absolutely disgusted with the treatment we received. It is very much the year of 2022. Not 1960! In conclusion, my colleagues and I will never return to this establishment. Based on how we were treated upon entering the restaurant, it was apparent Shapley's would rather cater to a specific group of people. I'd recommend anyone (especially anyone of COLOR) looking for high quality and delicious dining to visit La Cour in Highland Village, Koestler Prime in Ridgeland, or Ely's, which is also located in Ridgeland. read more

Very pricy place. Each dish was 50-80$. We were with a group of 8 people. They gave us a round table and two of us were sitting on the walk way out of that little room. I was so nervous every time somebody was coming into and out of that room, almost hitting my chair. The man came up to our table in shorts, asked how we were doing. It was so unprofessional from his side to wear shorts in that kind of restaurant (seemed to be the owner). Food was ok. The only good think was the artichoke dip and dressed up waitresses. They were very stern on waiting until the reserved time even after seeing a 9 month old baby in our group. Menus Provided 20 Minutes Later Menus were given 20 minutes later. High Chairs The staff at this restaurant is unwilling to acknowledge their issue regarding low supply of high chairs. I was told that other guests had reserved high chairs. My question to her was "What happens if you receive more than 2 requests?" She conveyed that she has never had that issue. I find this hard to believe. I was able to see at least three tables that had babies without high chairs. High Chairs on average range between $25 - $85. I fail to understand why the owner does not see the value in investment in high chairs Lack of Empathy This process was truly a disappointment. The owner became available to speak after my party decided to leave. I explained how I drove 6 1/2 hours to eat at this particular restaurant. This did not seem to mean anything to her. Had a great Date Night diner last night. The Marinated crab claws were big and tasty! My filet was cooked perfectly and tender enough to cut with a fork! The Beef tips were wonderful. Tender, tasty and paired with sautéed mushrooms, onions, and peppers. We shared the decadent potatoes au gratin. The house cut fries are legendary ! The service provided by Mack was impeccable! The atmosphere at Shapleys is perfect. Diners are separated by half walls that provide some privacy and limit excess noise. There are several private rooms for larger gatherings. So, we eat out often & have been wanting to try this restaurant. Arrived & our server began our experience by commenting on my granddaughter fooling with their menu, "Oh, she's really going to do that." Should have know from that moment, however, we were there for our holiday celebration and just laughed it off. We tend to order it all~started with the crab claws~delicious~my granddaughter even approved. Then ordered our salads & entrees with shareable sides. To our dismay our entrees literally arrived after eating 1/3 of our salads~now, this is not my first rodeo~our server offered no solution as we fumbled to find room on the table to keep our salads, which I did not. We all ordered steaks~my filet was fine~medium rare & to my liking. Both my daughter & son-in-law ordered the rib-eye~rare plus & medium rare~neither were acceptable~cook needs to turn down his burner. However, the best was again the server, "What would you like me to do about that?" We've eaten at fine restaurants all over the US and that response is just not acceptable. read more

We went there fo r the first time New Year's Eve and experienced a fabulous meal. Each table is set in its own alcove providing a quiet and intimate meal. The wait staff is on point providing exceptional service. We each enjoyed the 8 oz filet mignon which was perfectly cooked. It cut like butter it was so tender. We had toppings of sauteed artichoke hearts, lump crab, and button mushrooms. Generous portions of each. We shared the creamed spinach and scalloped potatoes. The portions were sufficient for the four of us. We finished the meal with creme brulee. Each and every item was top shelf. It you are looking for a place to experience a special meal. Shapleys, I have been here before and the food was absolutely amazing, but that was about 9 years ago. Obviously alot has changed in 9 years and I gotta say I wasn't the least bit impressed with the food! The service was fantastic as it always is and everyone there went out of their way to make sure we were taken care of and our drinks never got empty. We ordered two apps, the crab claws and the crawfish tails. Crab claws were great and huge! The crawfish tails were good but weren't cooked quite long enough and the breading was soft and falling off when you dipped it in the room temperature sauce that was served with them. I'm kinda paranoid and I like my sauce to be cold, cause room temp makes me feel like its been sitting out for a long time. The apps were good for the most part, but our entrées left alot to be desired. I had the ribeye (medium rare, cause there really isn't another way to eat one! Haha) and my wife had the lamb (medium). My wife's lamb was cooked dead on medium but was lacking flavor for sure but she said it wasn't bad. However, my ribeye arrived and it was at best a New York strip about 2.5 inches thick and was cooked on the rare side. Im not opposed to a rare steak but it was tough, not the right cut, and at best flavorless!! I was so disappointed I only took a few bites. You will see when I post the picture that it looks absolutely nothing like the other ribeyes in the previous pictures posted! For such a nice restaurant and dining experience I would have expected the food quality to be much much better. I could have gotten a better steak at Longhorn, however the service there would have sucked. Isn't there anywhere left that has great food and good service? If so, please let me know! read more

Great food and service. Tuna appetizer was very good. Salad dressing was nice (peppercorn Parmesan). Entrees (ribeye and the special: rack of lamb, filet, and shrimp/scallop skewers) were very good though they didn't have the porterhouse despite it being on the menu. Sides were good but not great (fries were kind of soggy and asparagus was just okay). Desert and drinks were so-so and are the only real drawback. Appropriately priced for the quality of food you get. Will definitely be going back and want to try some fish. read more
