Making big purchases is nerve-wracking. Making big purchases about things you know little to nothing about is even worse! When my fiancé and I (at the time not yet engaged) decided we wanted to make the next big step in our relationship, the thought of meeting with a jeweler was daunting. Although we knew nothing about diamonds, we *did* know that we wanted to shop together, and we wanted to give our business to somewhere family-owned instead of a big box store. So we committed probably every faux pas known to jewelry-kind and walked into Elyse Jewelers without making any appointment, completely on whim. Richard and Christine were outstanding in every possible way. Not only were we completely clueless (AND had no prior appointment), but we really hadn't done any research or scoped out other jewelry stores. They took the time to sit with us and give us the best Introduction to Diamonds 101 primer we could've asked for. Everything from the grading scale to cost to distribution was highlighted. Richard was open and transparent, and not once did we feel rushed or pressured into making any purchases. Richard was open about how diamonds were priced and where Elyse Jewelers stood in the diamond-buying hierarchy. He took samples out to show us the differences in size and color and emphasized the importance of cut. By the time we were done being thoroughly educated, we were both positive we would be coming back to make our future purchases here (with a proper appointment of course). During our next visit Richard discussed designs and styles. I knew I wanted a particular look, but I was struggling to articulate it -- Richard was able to translate my idea into a custom design that perfectly fit what I had in mind! Each step of the process was really fun and exciting. Being able to see a paper sketch transform into a 3D rendered model and then into a wax replica was admittedly way cooler than my fiancé and I anticipated. Richard was very upfront during each step and reminded us that if we wanted changes or adjustments we shouldn't be afraid to speak up! My fiancé's proposal was wonderful and memorable to me -- at the same time, I think the experience of creating the ring together from start to finish was something really special for both of us. We chose Elyse jewelers for my husband's wedding band. We enjoyed our experience of shopping with Richard, however when I went to pick up the ring it was another story. Upon receiving the ring, I noticed it was not the one I ordered, as it had a completely different finish. I mentioned this to Richard, who completely gaslighted me and told me that was what I ordered and the weird hammered finish would "fade over time" into the brushed metal I had actually ordered. I insisted it wasn't the ring, but was getting nowhere with him and left and called my husband. Once my husband got involved, Richard took the claim seriously and eventually admitted he had the rings mixed up in the display case so the style number was correct, however it was not the ring we had tried on. He offered to correct the mistake at no charge like it was a favor (in reality, it would be the only obvious solution since it was his mistake) but said nothing to me when I went to pick up the correct ring. I am willing to accept that mistakes happen, but the blatant disrespect I received from Richard was completely unprofessional. As if the customer service isn't enough reason to stay away, my husband has worn his ring for just 9 days, and the finish is already scratching off. Spend your money elsewhere. read more

I LOVE this jeweler. The owner; Richard is an amazing artist. His designs are unique and there is something wonderful and unique for everyone. I wanted a simple but unique pair of hoop earrings. I originally shied away because I thought they would be too pricey. I guess you get what you pay for though because the girl who helped me (who's name I forget but she was WONDERFUL), spent hours (no kidding) finding the out what my style was and going through all different types of earrings until we found the perfect pair for me. Now my husband knows where to go for my style of jewelry because the girl really took the time to get to know me, my taste and style in jewelry and my likes and dislikes. I only own one necklace, a pearl necklace my parents had given me for graduation. I have always wanted a nice necklace but couldn't find one that I liked and didn't want to just buy one to buy one. My husband and I had gone many places over the past 10 years but there was really nothing that made my heart stop. Of course, we did finally find one at Elyse Jewelers. It was so beautiful I wanted to cry. I never even though you could get emotional about a piece of jewelry (other than your engagement ring) like I did for this necklace. It is unique and one of a kind - designed and created by the owner of the store. So, I guess I want to say.... if you want a run of the mill piece of jewelry that you can get in any boring mall store. Don't go to Elyse. I would go somewhere else if I were you. If you still are thinking about going here to buy a ring, read this first. This guy is nice, but I wouldn't trust him as far as I could throw him. My issues: 1) My wife and I bought our rings here and paid him shortly after. I should have known better when he made an effort to hide the price tag on the ring when he took it out of its case before we could see it. When I went to pick up our rings the price tag fell out of the bag the ring was in and I was utterly disgusted when I saw the price originally on the ring was $500 less than what he charged. He jacked it up 50% from the original price. I understand that prices go up and to replace the ring might cost more than what he originally priced it as, but I think what he pulled was excessive. Plus he walks around with a ring probably worth 100 grand and he's pulling these stunts. 2) This guy actually said to me if I lose the ring or ever want to replace it with something else it would be no big deal since the ring I picked out was inexpensive. A guy in the ring business with no concept of symbolism, Hey slick, did you ever think I might want to keep the same wedding ring for the rest of my life? 3) I know women's rings are tougher to buy online, but if you're a guy and getting titanium, or tungsten, or even gold, go online. I could have paid at least half of what he got me for if I went through amazon. 4) He measured my finger and told me I don't want it to be too loose since it will fall off when it gets wet. I picked out the ring from his showcase and tried it on. It was loose and he said I needed a smaller size. He measured me and I told him I wanted the same ring but in the smaller size. I picked up the ring and tried it on and it seemed somewhat loose. I didn't think too much about it since I trusted he would get me the right size, and the wedding was in two days and I needed the rings. Well two days into the honeymoon I lost the ring in the swimming pool, and luckily found it with the help of several teenage volleyball players. Any time my hand gets wet the damn thing nearly falls off. I really think the guy just sold me the ring that was in his showcase that he originally told me was too big. That or he doesn't know how to measure a finger. I suppose I could have tried to talk him down on the prices but I was told Elyse was a good place to go. I take part of the blame for not doing enough research before I went there, but I trusted I would get a fair shake. I feel I didn't and now I have a ring I can barely wear because theres a 3mm gap between my finger and the ring. I am very unhappy with my experience and would recommend you go online and save yourself a ton of money. He got a nicer, larger ring here for less money. Richard is a really nice guy and offered a lot of great suggestions. They worked together to design the ring and then Richard cast it. We went back together to look for wedding bands. He made one to match my engagement ring and then offered a lot of great suggestions for my fiance. They have pretty large selection of men's wedding bands compared to most other stores we've visited. Plus they're able to order/make many other styles. Richard is a straight-shooter, no high-pressure sales tactics, and even steered us away from some more expensive selections telling us it would just be a waste of money. read more
