We brought a few friends from out of state for a good brunch place for New Years. The food was good as expected and staff was friendly. The reason we gave a 3 star rating is because we were having a good experience, up until we left the restaurant. One of the staff came outside and politely asked if there was anything wrong with the service because we had only tipped them $4 on an $80 bill. We told them the service was great, however at the same time we were confused since our bill did not total up to $80. After several conversations the staff confirmed that they had made a billing error and confused us with another customer's bill, which was fine with us, however no apologize was made and all they said was " you guys are fine". I think this was unprofessional, and it made a good dining experience into an awkward moment especially since we were saying our goodbyes at the entrance in the rain. I'm sure the staff was flustered by the other customer, but they should not have projected their frustration on us. read more

Perfect spot for weekend brunch. Recently moved to the Main Line from Philly and I truly appreciate this establishment. Be prepared to wait 10-15 min for a table on weekends after 10AM. It's worth it. Everything is fresh, cooked with intention, and delicious. The red bliss potatoes that come with most entrees are such a nice step up from dingy home fries. I wish we discovered this gem earlier!! Quaint, local cafe with delicious food and friendly staff. I ordered an omelette which was cooked to perfection with the freshest of ingredients. My husband ordered a breakfast sandwich which he enjoyed. More importantly, they cooked his scrapple just the way he requested(thin and crispy.) Great brunch spot. Super cute inside. It is BYOB. Service is super friendly. Food is good. There's lack of presentation but the portions are great and very filling and hearty. Stumbled upon this spot on yelp and decided to give it a go for Sunday breakfast. It was fantastic. It was packed and we were seated within 10 minutes. The staff was so friendly and the service was super fast. The breakfast was phenomenal and the pancake selection was great. I had the Nutella pancakes which I would get again and again and again and my cousin got the pumpkin which he loved! Overall a great atmosphere and would recommend! Maybe it was an off day? We're moving to the area and stopped in to get brunch with our son. It was busy but we didn't have to wait long for a table. But then we couldn't even tell who our server was. We quickly got our sons pancake but then had to eventually wave someone down to order our food. After waiting over 20 more minutes (and with a toddler now on the verge of freaking out), we had to get our food wrapped up to go. It wasn't until we got home that we realized we didn't even get what we paid for. The couple that sat down next to us didn't even order because off the bat the server told them it would be a thirty minute wait for an omelette! Was looking forward to trying EM J's Cafe since I heard about their housemade corned beef hash. Its a little difficult to find...located in a strip mall down the street and across from Nectar. Formerly known as Patty Mac's, this little eatery is under new management and now serves dinner, on top of breakfast and lunch. I've only been once since the change in ownership, but the menu at Em J's is certainly more adventurous than PattyMac's, yet all the favorites from Patty Mac's are also available. With items like ginger-bread waffles, crab and brie omelets, and lots of daily breakfast, lunch and dinner specials, Em J's offers a nice selection of entrees for any time of day. Generally the food is good, but I might suggest that the cook be a bit more detail oriented. The crab and brie in my omelet was ice cold. I'd have sent it back, but I was in a large group and didn't want to be the last one eating after everyone else devoured their breakfasts. Also we had to wait 20 minutes while they brewed coffee. I guess it's better than getting served coffee that had been warming for 2 hours. I'm definitely going to give Em J's another try and hopefully they'll be on point when I do. The ideas are certainly there, but a bit better execution would put them into a four star category. read more

Any meats you eat there- the homemade corn beef hash (NOM), bacon, homemade cured lunch meats, etc- phenomenal. You can tell all their food is fresh and well made. Their slogan Good food, Done Right. Is an understatement! Fast and friendly servers who seem genuinely interested in their guests needs, unlike some local joints. I recently enjoyed a delicious breakfast of poached eggs and Canadian bacon. The toast was not too buttery and the breakfast potatoes were nice and crispy. The perfect Saturday breakfast! The only reason I give this place 4 stars is it's real estate. The strip mall environment just lacks character that an old diner or small cafe has. Their signage is a bit hard to read - although real effort has been made to warm up the interior. I have been bypassing it for awhile because of the location, but now I know the food and service is so good I'll make more of an effort! Our favorite place to eat breakfast! The food is amazing & the service is friendly. The breakfast potatoes are real roasted red potatoes, not the shredded mess or weird orange squares most other places serve. Tons of delicious & unique omelette options plus always 1 or 2 extra choices on the specials board. Table of four for lunch. We got sat right away as we were just before the lunch rush. We ordered three breakfast meals and one lunch. We waited and waited and waited and waited some more. Drinks were empty and not so much as a check in from our server. Took almost an hour for our meals to come out. I don't mind waiting as long as the server is attentive and can at least refill the drinks. We were basically ignored. My food was ok and my friend's omelette was lukewarm at best. This was our fourth or fifth visit here and we've always enjoyed our food and knew that good food takes time. Cute little cafe near the Chesterbrook area. I ate here for breakfast with a business partner. They offered a wide range of options to accommodate even the pickiest, health-conscious diner. The diner offered both table/booth and counter seating. It met that sweet spot of being quiet enough to have a conversation, yet private enough to talk business without feeling like everyone can hear you. The staff broke out in song mid- meal, they all help each other out and seemed to enjoy working there. The food came out super fast and the menu has all the normal breakfast fare with several unique options as well. UPDATE We've been coming back regularly and today we waited 1 hour 10 minutes for our food to come out after ordering. That's not the end of the world but for one detail: The kicker was that the owner ( maybe he was a manager?) sat down next to us with his food and even told us our food would be out shortly. We stopped in here for breakfast on a Saturday morning. It was busy, but not packed, and we were seated immediately. The service was attentive and friendly, and the food was very good. I had eggs benedict, and the hollandaise sauce was really tasty. My wife tried the special of the day, which was a pumpkin omelet, and she enjoyed it. Any restaurant that offers Gluten Free options automatically gets a good review. To top that they have a separate place where they prepare the GF products. A server wasn't sure about one item and called someone at home to find out if it was GF. The pancakes were delicious ! The second time I came the service wasn't great, they forgot about us and ordered me something I couldn't eat, but they made up for it by deducting items off our bill. As a new resident of the Berwyn-Paoli area and an avid bruncher, I was super happy to find an excellent brunch spot (to fill the void in my heart left by my favorite joint in our last city) on my first outing. Em J's is IT. Tucked away in a little strip mall that you'd miss if you blinked while driving down 30, she doesn't give much away from the outside, but the other excellent reviews brought me in and I'm so glad they did. First and foremost, the wait staff. Literally every member of it, from the coffee pourers, register workers, waitresses, bus boys, every one was SUPER friendly, and in a genuine way. It was me, my mom, and my two small children (4 and 1) the first time, and we were welcomed very graciously. Several people stopped by to check on us and actually engaged very pleasantly with my toddler, and they've done that every time we've been in, so it wasn't just a one-off. Also, when I bent down to clean up the mess my 1-year-old made under his high chair, the waitress literally shooed me away and said, This is your time to relax, not clean. I'm still not going to leave waffle bits on the floor, but I really thought it was sweet of her to say that and seem to really mean it. So there's that. And then there's the coffee, which gets its own shout out because it's an organic, house blend and it. is. perfect. I like my coffee as plain as can be and my mom likes it jazzy af with about six flavored creamers, so for both of us to agree on a brew is tough, but we both loved this one. And then of course, the food. Both kids got waffles that they both devoured (which is remarkable because they never finish anything), and my mom and I got pretty standard eggs-toast-potatoes orders which were perfect. We've only been back three times, and one of these times I'm going to try one of their super fancy specials, but I like that they can really knock the staple brunch stuff out of the park--get you a brunch spot that can do both. Stopped by here for brunch on our way to Malvern. It appeared very clean. Staff was very friendly. We did have to wait 30 minutes from order time until the food arrived, but we weren't in a hurry so it was fine. I ordered the croissant with avocado, scrambled eggs, and cheese. It was a large sized portion and had all the ingredients I enjoy, but seemed to be missing something. I think it needed some type of sauce either salsa or hollandaise or something. I wouldn't order it again. My husband got the tropical waffles and they were delicious!! One of my daughters ordered the rainbow pancakes and she said they were really good. My other daughter got the blueberry pancakes and ate all of hers as well. I would return to this establishment, but I would choose another item on their menu to order. read more
