Needed a spot to do some work and get more charge in my laptop after lunch. I was recommended here by a friend. First off-- good working spaces! Upstairs is a bit hot b/c they opened up the windows, but at least it's fresh air. Downstairs is cooler and there's good seating in both areas with outlets and decent wi-fi. I ordered one of the specials-- strawberry lemonade with espresso. Honestly I'm more of a "I like my coffee poured over and black" kind of guy, but this really hit the spot this summer afternoon. Great specials menu, so I gotta come back to have the coffee in earnest! Service was prompt-- felt like a few people were getting trained up today, but things were still running pretty smoothly. First time visiting downtown Wayne. It's located right on Lancaster Ave. It was pretty crowded- both with regard to finding seats and the que to get coffee. They have a glass shelf that contains a ton of interesting pastries. I ended up getting a hazelnut latte. I found it pretty tasty. The downstairs part of the cafe has a large window that shows a nice mural. The upstairs has a cozy couch to sit on and two large tables. I read the reviews before coming, this place was on my list because of a recent article in the Philadelphia inquirer. How right was that one who said that said the coffee was warm?! It was right! I was excited to taste this Rose Latte. It would only have been more enjoyable if it were HOT. Small sitting area, vibrant atmosphere, courteous staff and overall good vibes. We were halfway through our beverages when my husband suggested we try the Avocado toast. Boy am I glad he made this suggestion. He said "best Avocado toast ever", I say pretty darn good, too! The bread is the start, a variation on the English muffin, everything bagel spice, Avocado was perfectly seasoned and topped with thin sliced radish. Yum. My friend and I were in Devon and looking for a coffee shop to stop in the afternoon and this was one of only a few that was open late just a short drive in Wayne. From the outside the shop is beautiful big windows and lovely green trim, there are a few small tables out front. Inside there's a large counter with a pastry case, a cooler with bottled drinks, and a shelf with snacks and coffee. The menu is simple and has a illustrated chart on the different type of coffee drinks. They had a few specials and also a large list of other flavors. I went with a honey latte and it was quite possibly the best latte I've had in awhile. I got the largest size and drank it rather quickly because it was so good. Very smooth. The building is very narrow and very old with high ceilings- it's a little dingy in the sitting area - not a lot of light and because of its age it appears a little dirty. Definitely saw some bug mats which grossed me out. But the coffee bar itself was clean as were the tables. There's a beautiful back window that faces a painted brick wall. There's not much seating luckily we were able to snag one of the last tables and there were plenty people still filing in after us. This definitely must be a fave local spot as many people were set up with laptops who appeared to be stationed there for an hour or more. In addition to the coffee I ordered a strawberry rhubarb scone which was delicious and I would love to know where the pastries come from. For a good cup of coffee it's a good spot, but it might be easier to take this coffee on the go! read more

This is a nice cafe located conveniently in downtown Wayne. It's street parking only, which isn't usually a problem. The hummus toast is very good and features local Philly muffins. They have several other local brands available in snacks and beverages too. The coffee is pretty standard to me. I don't get anything fancy, just black drip. I really love this spot for getting a bit of work done on the weekend. I appreciate that it opens early-- 7am and has a good amount of seating. wanted to add a nice little update. Figured out they have little punch cards which is great for people who frequent the place. Usually the same baristas are working, so after a while they remember you/your order. Now THATS the kind of top tier friendly service I love. The kind of place where you want to become a regular. And as I mentioned before, it gives off a productive vibe. To my surprise, I have always found myself a table (thank goodness), though they do have a frequent stream of customers (and rightly so with the great service and amazing drinks). This place has just gone downhill in recent years. Will never return after my last experience. Many menu items are routinely not available. The quality of food is mediocre. Coffee is just okay. Cafe mocha is disgustingly sweet. Service is a mess. Its way too cramped and uncomfortable with singles working on laptops and taking up tables for 4. The upstairs used to be a place of quiet and refuge but now its packed and super uncomfortable. Why do they still have a large table up there in such a small space? Obviously Wayne is laking for decent cafes especially since Starbucks and the wonderful Le Pain Quotidienne sadly closed. Dissapointing to see what was once a nice little cafe go downhill so much. Came here around 8AM on a sunny July morning. Door to the cafe is open to the outside, which is welcoming, and it is nice and cool inside. There is a group of patrons sitting outside and talking over coffee. I ordered the latte and cinnamon raisin roll, both of which are excellent. Cool ambiance with books to read, art to view, and local advertisements to read. All the kids keep petting this toy dog (see picture), which is cute. read more

I always see the Gryphon Cafe on my way to work and always wanted to stop in. I finally did this morning. As soon as I walked in, I instantly felt the "cool" vibe of this place. Inside there's wood floors, wood tables, a chalboard wall featuring the drinks and food specials and local art hung all over the walls for sale. I ordered my stuff to go but I could see myself just chilling out here to work or listen to music while sipping on a fancy latte eating a croissant. Today I ordered an Almond Milk Cappuccino (16oz) and an Open-Faced Smoked Salmon toast and my total came to $15. It's certainly not inexpensive but the cappuccino was delicious and the caffeine strong. My salmon toast was really simple but tasty. Please disregard the (albeit few) bogus reviews on yelp, this cafe is consistently on point and the only one I patronize on the main line. I discovered this place years ago with my mom while visiting local thrift stores in the area. I happened to be in the area today, which is seldom for me but I made a point to visit Gryphon for a late breakfast/early lunch before an appointment. They were out of smoked salmon so i opted for a sesame bagel with hummus and tomato. Super ripe tomato sliced perfectly atop house made hummus that was expertly seasoned without garlic. I hate garlic heavy hummus so this was entirely satisfying. I love strong coffee in all forms but had had french press to begin the day so opted for an iced tea instead. The tea was black, perfectly brewed with a hint of fruit, of which i could not place but it was the perfect counterpoint to a balmy day. Other reviewers have mentioned that the cleanliness of the establishment left much to be desired but I observed the opposite. Also the baristas were professional, not too smiley (which I appreciate, having spent decades in the service industry) and were clearly enjoying the early afternoon and each-other's company. this is one of the very few good reasons to enter the small town area of Wayne. but it's definitely well worth the visit. It may very well be one of the best coffee houses out there, and the suburbs could really use some. The coffee and teas are top notch, the food is delicious, and the staff is very friendly. but the best reason to go here is for it's music nights. they invite song writers to play a set every Friday and Saturday at 9pm. and they have an open mic night every Monday. Neighborhood gem. Everyone loves this cafe. I'm never disappointed by drinks I get from here. The nitro cold brew was so smooth. My friend specifically loves the kombucha from this cafe. I love how both the nitro cold brew and kombucha were fresh and on tap. Every barista I met from Gryphon are kind and knowledgeable. There is a cute study/talk area by the back. There's not an open space at the back of the cafe so they decorated the area with peaceful plants by the windows. The back area has NY vibes, and I love how they filled the area with customers/local artists/students(?) artwork. And there's upstairs! I haven't been there yet, but I can't wait to go back. I love how they support other local businesses like Weckerly's. I've been meaning to try out their ice creams, but they're located in Philly.
