Embarcadero Shell is the small gas station right off Hwy 101 as you exit to Embarcadero West. As you exit and merge, this station will be on the right. I don't usually stop here because it's always crowded. But the other day it wasn't busy, so I stopped to gas up. The landscapers were there with their leaf blowers kicking up dust. Reg UL was posted at $4.69/gal. My Shell gas card gave me a 35 ct discount, so I paid $4.34/ gal. Oh well, that's not bad for a Shell station in Palo Alto that's next to a shopping plaza and freeway. There's no food mart. There have a small cashier booth with drink coolers lined up outside. If you want food/ drink/ coffee, go to the shopping plaza next door. If you want to go back to Hwy 101, it can be hard to make a left against all the traffic. It's probably easier to go around the block......R on Wildwood, R on Channing, then R on St Francis, and drive up to the traffic light to make a LEFT back to the freeway. FYI: The speed limit on Embarcadero West is 25 mph. read more

If you're into gas or if you need gas then this is the perfect place for it maybe not the cheapest but definitely not the most expensive.

Small location off the freeway near the shopping plaza with Starbucks, Orange Theory, and the Market. The gas station actually connects to the plaza so you can access it from the plaza parking lot. It's a small station and moderately priced on gas. I usually only stop when I'm low on gas and need gas immediately. There's lighting at the stations so you're not in the dark at night. They have an air/vaccum station there but I have not used that service so am not sure how much it costs. Additionally, I haven't interacted with the staff members here but am usually able to get in and out without much of a wait. It's a convenient location for me, while small it serves it's purpose, it's more expensive than I normally pay for gas. read more

Staff is friendly, the customers that drive in to pump gas get 2 stars. There is no sense of organization pulling into this station. People come from the front and back to wait for gas that sometimes it is difficult to get out of the pumps because they are blocking your car. This happens quite often. Best time to pump is in the evening to avoid the crowd and traffic. read more

I went to put fuel in my car and they put a 50 dollar hold on my debit card.. when I didn't even start to pump or got any fuel. The pump automatically stopped and wouldn't let me do it again, then I went to check my card statement and it said that they had put a $50 hold on it already then I called the manager because the lady at the front didn't know how to help me, And the manager Jima didn't even know how to help me or what to do she said I had to call my bank and get them to refund me the money if they ended up taking it. I have always use my card at gas stations and I have NEVER had this issue. No gas station has ever put any type of hold on my cards. It's always been you spend 20 we take out 20. Period. No bullshit hold. Never coming again. When I asked who the managers boss was she pretended like she forgot the name and later on after I said "you don't know who your boss is??" She suddenly remembered. I better get my "hold" back. read more

If i could give minus stars I would. I had the worst experience filling gas and air at this pump. The attendant ( slightly older man with white hair) refused to provide air to me and told me to f**k off. Last I remembered ,, in CA, air is free for everyone who makes a fuel purchase. This guy demanded quarters and asked if I thought he was an idiot. Horrible, will never go there again, not even if I have to push my car for gas. God knows how many others this guy has fleeced for air. And air here is $1.50, so assuming he cheats 20 people a day, he makes $30 in his pocket. How can anyone complain about these guys? Isnt it california law to provide free air and water for any gas purchase. read more

The worst. I come here regularly because it is right on my drive and next to my Starbucks. But I am done. I have a slow leak in my tire needed a little bit of air and this was apparently very irritating for both women working there. Went in to ask for it to be turned on and the woman started complaining to me about how people take their air and don't buy their gas, apparently not recognizing me the million times I've gone in to buy water, snacks and fill my gas tank. I told the other lady about her behavior and she sneered at me and said, "it's on!" Yeah, I know, Pleasant Person. This is a pretty typical Shell response. I have no idea why I still have gone to Shell when theres Chevron, am/ p.m. and 1 million others. I realize Yelping a gas station is like pissing in the wind. Not super sure why people rate gas stations like they're supposed to be high end establishments... Gas stations is located right before the 101 onramps, well lit, and with good quality pump pipes and heads. Prices are usually 10-15 cents more expensive than other gas stations in mountain view and sunnyvale, but for the convenience it's worth the slight upcharge. People are ridiculous and will drive around to save a few cents per gallon on gas but in reality are you really saving money? Owner has always been polite to me. The gas station is a lot cleaner than others I've been to. The only thing I could complain about is that it closes early sometimes, around 11PM. read more

There's usually at least one pump that's out of order and they turn the pumps off at midnight. It's cheaper than up-the-road Alma shell. read more

I pulled into this gas station at 11 pm on a Wednesday because my car said my tire was low. I saw the attendant was closing up so I pulled by the air and realized it was going to cost me $1.50 to get air. I didn't have enough change so I tried to use the card swipe but that was non-operational. I noticed that the attendant got in his car and then out for a moment. I walked over while yelling excuse me and as I got to his passenger door he closed his door started up the car and proceeded to put his car in drive. The passenger window was open and I yelled I need help to no avail all I got was exhaust fumes in my face. Okay I understand there may be some crazies out there but when you pull up in a newer BMW with a business suit on chances are that person isn't there to rob or harm you. Needless to say I am boycotting all Shell gas stations due to this one a..hole. read more

If you have little gas do not come to this gas station I had a very bad experience with one of the employe's at this gas station he has a grayish blackish hair color and is about average height. What happened is that I payed with $100 and I asked the guy to fill the cars tank. The total was $50 so I went to go retrieve my change which was $50 but instead I only got $5, I knew something was wrong so I asked and he said that there was problem with the system and to come back tomorrow. This kept happening so my husband took action and talked with the manager. Finally we got are change but defiantly don't plan on coming back, who knows how many people this guy has ripped off! read more

I went to this station and the bomb wasn't working, it said please pay inside when I went inside to pay the person in charge told me just change you car for a different bomb I did that and the bomb also said please pay inside I return inside and the person said you have to move you car for other bomb. Have stopped here a number of times to re - fuel a vehicle and the service is great, price of fuel is reasonable and the location is excellent for some -- notably, I do not drive into this place on a low - fuel vehicle like at other places and do not know why. The staff is extremely rude. Tried to buy some cigarettes and the cashier checked my ID for a good 40 seconds before relunctantly selling them to me. I am 30 years old and definitely do not look anywhere near underage. He then told me not to give it to children! Extremely convenient location right by the freeway. This Shell also happens to be my neighborhood gas station. Prices are on the higher end, but still reasonable, and I've had very few encounters with panhandlers over my 100 or so stops here. The biggest downside is that station closes at 11 p.m., which means that I often have to make a long detour to the El Camino Shell whenever I find myself driving up to Berkeley or San Francisco in the middle of the night. read more
