I recently started golfing, so this review won't be on how immaculate the course is manicured or how tough it plays. Rather, I base my review on Emerald like I do most places: Do I enjoy my time here? Yes. 100% I love coming to Emerald. The service has always been fantastic and they staff has been very accommodating when asked. My friends and I come here a lot and have a blast. Fridays are pretty cool, with music and a small nightlife on the patio around sundown. It's really chill, and a lot of fun. read more

This is a great little executive course. Excellent place to work on your iron play. You have the opportunity to use almost all of your clubs. There are many elevation changes, several water holes, narrow fairways and targets. The greens and bunkers are always in immaculate shape. Emerald Isle has a real grass driving range and a sizable practice putting green. The small clubhouse is stocked with nearly everything you'll need. A new grip on a driver was very reasonably priced. Although I haven't eaten here, the sandwiches look good and the burgers smell delicious. Ample beer selection as well. I love spending time at this little course. It's a respectable challenge and time well spent. read more

This place is super fun. Really great little course, the owners and staff are so welcoming and accommodating and they take pride in their course, which shows. They hosted our youth baseball team for a fundraiser and went well above and beyond on all fronts. They clearly care about their community and are very willing to give back. I bid at auction and won a round for 2 with a cart to Emerald. When we pulled up, I have to say seeing the brown greens and small course I was a little judgemental but said, let's just go out and have a fun day. I get to live by and have been able to play on courses like DMCC, RSF, FB, MR who keep their greens green as can be and gorgeous. We signed it with this really nice lady inside. Who gave us our cart key. We grabbed a few snacks in the little store there. They have a little wine, nuts and chips, and make lunches that if you call, they'll drive them out to you. We took off on our fun day journey. It was beautiful out too which made it even nicer. We get to the first hole and they are people teeing off from every which way. You have holes behind you as well as in front of you. I swear you should bring a helmut to this course! It is set up kind of weird as far as that goes. You golf 9 holes and then do it again for a full round. You have carts coming and going on the same path which makes it a bit more dangerous. You just have to pay attention out here. The lakes looks putrid but there are so many families of turtles in them! My favorite part of the day. Seeing mama turtle and lots of babies at all stages sunning on the sticks floating in the lake. Some of the holes are fun. You have to hit it across the water on a few which makes it a challenge and fun. It is beautiful out there. Nice people and I'd come here again for a fun round. It is definitely family oriented and not for the "best" golfers. Those guys would get really frustrated with others here if they weren't patient as a saint. read more

The best Valentine's Day golf date with our fur baby! Hubby loves to golf and spending time with our fur baby. I came across Emerald Isle during our weekend in Oceanside because of their dog friendly course, and with the help of Holly and her staff, they made our Valentine's Day golf date the best! The course was beautiful and perfect for our fur baby to run around on. Holly and her staff even made it happen and made a sign for our golf cart for Valentine's Day. I wanted to golf with a friend but only had a short window of time, so this executive course was PERFECT!! 18 holes with different elevations are great to use every club except the 1 & 3 wood. I heard about the course through an interview of the owner, Holly Kennedy, on a podcast about Charity Golf Tournaments, so was excited to visit. Holly and her Team have the course looking great, and the greens were awesome! Staff was very helpful and after our round, we enjoyed a great burger. Holly, the owner, even shared some time with us. If you haven't been here you need to come. The owners are working hard to make this course a great place to play. Dogs allowed which makes it special. Greens are very nice, new sand in all the traps and water in the lakes. Carts are clean and they have a clubhouse with food and drinks and bands on some nights. Went here on my lunch to go to the driving range. I was so disappointed, I couldn't use any of my woods, the range is super short. One good drive and it is over the fence I go...I guess it is a good thing, cause I needed to practice with my irons, but still...the option was taken from me and I was not happy :-( Looked at the fairways while driving in, bad condition. Big dead patches, nothing but dirt. I definately wouldn't play there unless it was my only option for the day. read more

Given that two of three previous reviews were written by disc golfers, an update is needed. First of all, disc golf is no longer offered. This course is modest but is indeed challenging, with five water holes and some narrow fairways with cliffs on one side. Bring extra balls. I have been playing there for six years and management is always improving fairways and greens. Don't judge the course by the driving range. OK, its an older crowd, but we are nice people too as is the staff. The price is right and you seldom even need a tee time. read more

I bet I have a bigger nine iron than you. Golf is like a really hot Italian super model, super great to look at, but once you get hands on you get slapped in the face because you dont know what "Can I touch your tushy?" in Italian means and you just go for it without asking permission first. Definitely the most affordable place to golf around the North County area. If you're that guy who thinks you are just as cool as Burt Reynolds or somebody just as hairy, fight the urge to bring your flask filled with alcohol with you and buy yourself a beer from the clubhouse, no outside booze, resident booze only. Hole 4 is definitely the fat kid with snow cone sticking his tongue out at you, just annoying as Hell. If you're good at golf this place shouldnt be too difficult for you, but for the select few that don't get "golfgasms" over how many strokes they receive (pun intended) then you may have a fun challenge ahead of you. The front desk folks are really nice and do quite a lot to be accomidating but give the guys a break if you arent the first in the tee box because since the prices are as cheap as a Spiderman figurine at the Mexico/California border, you can wait. read more

1st time at this course when I redeemed a free birthday round. Staff member was very nice to offer my wife a discounted round as well. On this weekday afternoon, the course was fairly empty with only a few regular seniors, a congenial crowd. The Par-3 course is surprisingly challenging for its length. 165-yard holes look like 190s with huge hazards in between. Then there are those narrow 90-yard teasers. All in all, not an outing to be sneezed at. 3-stars cos in tournament condition it isn't. But worth a birthday treat it is. read more

REVISED FROM 3to 5 stars. Up until today this little beauty of an executive course would receive and unqualified 5 stars. Today I made a reservation for three days in the future and paid for it. Later I looked up weather and found a 90% chance of rain on time and date. I immediately went back online to cancel reservation - usually an easy process. This time I was directed to call in to office. I did this and was told that reservation system is done by third party and there are not refunds. I was told that if it's raining and I bring in my receipt I MIGHT get a rain check. LESSON: DON'T PREPAY - not worth the discount. Over 3 days notice and no refund! This is a great place to work on your short game, as well as to just have fun with your kids. I've been going here for over 20 years with various friends and family members and have a lot of good memories. Let me preface my review with that this is the ONLY course I have ever played. I have had lessons at Rancho Carlsbad through the city program but we never played the course there, only the range and putting. I was very anxious as God did not bless me with the "Natural Golfer Gene". After the first hole I realized it's all about having fun and getting it to the green. I totally recommend this course to beginning golfers- everyone is nice and it's not crazy hard. Yes I have lost my fair share of balls to the water- but hey stock up at Play it Again Sports with the bright yellow and orange balls. $5 for a dozen of the cheap ones I think! They are much easier to spot in the bushes or edge of the water if you're lucky enough to not sink it. If you are playing with 2 people it usually takes us 2 hours- today we played with 4 people and it took 4 hours. (but we also stopped twice for refreshments at a home by the 14th hole) So it would probably be 3 hours without a pitstop and playing straight through. We had a coupon so it was $17 each on a Wednesday found in the Coast News- regular is $25 with a cart. It's definitely not Aviara, the Crossings or La Costa, but I am a beginner and just playing to have fun and learn. read more

This course used to be tired, and overrun with disc golfers as it was a joint golf / disc golf course sharing the same holes. The disc golfers were often loud and quite rude about playing right through regular golfers - without bothering to ask if anyone minded. Between the two, the course made my "don't bother going back" list, and stayed there quite awhile. But, new ownership &/or new management took over, disc golf was removed, and money was put into fixing the place up. Now it's quite an enjoyable executive course with fairways and greens in good shape, with friendly staff and the most reasonable prices you'll ever see for a course of this size and in this condition. Some of the holes are easy, but many are decently challenging - it's a great place to work on your short game. Take a cart if you must, but this course is great for walking... though beware the uphill climb to the 18th tee! read more

I too came here for just the disc golf. Real golf is lame. Quiet when we went. But I could see it being a problem when their are lots of people golfing seeing as how you have to share the course. 8 bucks was a bit steep but beers were cheap. Beware of the lakes. This was a fun little course. Staff was very friendly. My wife and I walked it, although I would recommend getting a cart. Some of the holes are pretty far apart and you have to go up and down hills. We walked more than we thought we would on a hot and humid morning. They had a lot of crew out there landscaping and mowing. I think they are trying to take good care of the course. Although most holes are par 3's, they are pretty challenging. I would definitely play again if I came back to Oceanside. read more

Played here twice last week while vacationing in Oceanside. It's a great course for working on your short game. All par 3's except for 2 short Par 4's. The greens are in very good shape & very receptive. It's mostly dry everywhere other than the greens & it costs $27.00 to ride which seemed a bit pricey to me. This is a review for golf, not disc golf. The prices a very reasonable. I enjoy going here because the course is well maintained. The staff is good and the holes can be quite challenging for the beginning to intermediate golfer. The disc golfers have never interfered with game play, and the driving range is not the best, but it is still there for those that chose to use it. I highly recommend going on a lightly foggy day in the morning, it is inspiring playing the course with a slight mist in the air. read more

Played here with my daughter this afternoon and loved it. Yes, it is a short course but it is really fun. Greens and bunkers are in good shape. The owners and staff are super friendly. They even hand-carried my daughters hamburger to her while we were on the range! Now that is great customer service. The are seeding the tees for the winter so they are kinda banged up, but you get to put it on a wooden tee so who cares? Greens rolled true and held very well. This is a great family venue and is good for all skill levels. My daughter is a beginner and I'm a 2 handicap and we equally had fun. You can't beat the value here. Great people, great food, and great prices. If more courses were like this one, I think golf would be more popular. read more

This was my first time golfing, and I'm glad this course was laid back, in terms of its attire. There were 3 of us total, 2 carts, and 1 bag. I only hit the golf ball a couple of times, since the guys didn't know if I would like golf, and I didn't want to hold up people behind us. We started out fine. But then, around about the 8th whole, some 2 guys caught up to us, and started hitting their golf balls while we were still playing!! This really p-d us off. They continued to breathe down our necks for the rest of the time. Around the 12th or so hole, the field marshall is telling us that we should have had another golf bag and shouldn't have been let out, and that I can't play (b/c I guess the guys didn't pay for me...?). I stopped hitting, I wouldn't even call it playing, around the 4th hole? So I told him I wasn't playing (and really, all I could do was put anyway). Then he says we're holding up the line (I think it's because of those speedy guys). But we weren't slow! There was a group of 4-5 guys playing before us, and they were taking their time. All in all, we weren't big fans of the marshall, but all I can say is he is doing his job well. The course itself has a mix - water, sand, up and downhill - but I don't know what golfers are typically looking for. Parking is spacious. Again, I like the fact that it allows casual attire (read: leggings, t shirt, and sneakers). read more

I have to say, I have not played here in a couple years and I was very pleasantly surprised by how nice this executive course was. The greens were exceptional and I could tell they have done a lot of work on the course since I brought my son here a year and a half ago. Under the new ownership, this course has gotten much better and if you want to try out an executive course in North County, Emerald Isle should be first on your list. Played this for the first time today (Sunday) at 10am with a 4 some. There is a lot to like about Emerald Isle: Low prices Well maintained Friendly non-intrusive staff Not crowded Feels like a tight squeeze to get this 18 holes sandwiched within the surrounding homes but that's part of the charm. You can clearly see every flag from every tee box and that's kind of nice. I did it with a cart but a push cart or walk might do just as well on this short course. Good course for beginners. Beware the narrow courses. Better to shoot short and straight than long and wayward. Also, beware the lakes that you have to hit over on a few of the holes. This course is very laid back executive course. I can start with practice at the driving range. For myself it is perfect because I can walk and I am beginner. It has been great to learn on but the holes are narrow and there are at least 3 holes with water. Not too expensive, so I can go more often. It can get a little crowded because there are a lot of people without tee times. Not all holes are clearly labeled and it can be confusing for new comers. read more
