A 3 star because because Ms. Margie was so pristine, professional, charming and customer-friendly on the phone while engaging me to provide estimates for a new walkway and repair a stoop step. The hiccup originated when the appealing first quote did not contain the stoop step. Another quote from an aerial view of the home resulted in doubling the original estimate. A guy came out to perform a live measurement and view without us present. We assumed Emerald would call me back. Did not and I moved on. read more

Dear Peter, Why am I not surprised by your company's poor behavior? From my perspective, your company's good reputation was severely tarnished by this unprofessional experience. Our project was simple and straight forward, some regrading, a new paver walk, short knee walls, nice plantings, etc. Where's the "risk" you speak of? I swiftly complied with all of Margie's requests, plans, photos, sketches etc were all sent on time as promised. Yet your company produced nothing, not even a simple courtesy call while wasting weeks of my time waiting for something, anything. Apparently the risks were all mine. While you were away, your team continuously procrastinated, failed to meet their promises & estimated deadlines that required numerous follow-up phone calls by me. Your estimator was considerably late for his afternoon appointment, was completely unfamiliar with all the materials I had forwarded to Margie weeks before, arrived with no writing materials for note taking as I described the details and scope of the project (which now makes sense since you said Sam failed to remember the retaining wall along the East end of the property) and appeared tired, overworked and not interested .... yes, completely ill prepared for the project. Although I fully complied with your teams requests, was friendly, courteous and understanding toward you and your team, today you pulled out of the project without explanation and after much delay! Emerald Landscaping recently continued a concrete stone walkway from the side of our home through our backyard. In addition, they also buried a system to channel our downspouts from our house under the walkway to prevent washouts. From beginning to end, the workers were professional, competent, and courteous. The final product was an amazing improvement over what we previously had. In addition, Margie, from the office staff, was an outstanding contact ensuring our every concern was addressed. We recently had a new walkway put in by Emerald Landscaping Corp located at 7448 Damascus Rd in Gaithersburg Md. Let me start by saying how absolutely happy we are with the walkway. Every item on the contract was taken care of exactly as written and exceeded our expectations. We have had numerous compliments from our neighbors on the look and workmanship of the new walkway. We couldn't be happier. Margie who was my contact kept us informed with timing and completion. She was always very responsive and happy to answer any questions. Emerald Landscaping has been our steady landscaping company at my office for a long time now and we couldn't be more grateful for their service! What's the most special part that we have seen with the crew that works here is the extra attention to details. I planted bulbs myself and a few other plants that Emerald did not put in over the years at my office. In essence, they could have just pulled out my plants as they don't match the existing shrubs and I'd have no right to complain. However, they did not. After carefully removing all of the mulch, the crew lovingly re-mulched around my bulbs and it could not look any more fantastic. Right now, someone is giving these spring bulbs even extra water and love. I am sure any other commercial landscaping company would have just ripped them out and mulched over it as fast as possible, to get to the next job. The gentlemen that show up here are very polite and professional too. They really go the extra mile and take pride in their work and it shows. Also, super fast snow removal too! read more

I had a great experience with Emerald Landscaping this past week. They put down sod in our backyard, which had become very muddy after all the torrential rain we had in the spring/summer. I found Emerald through Home Advisor. I talked with both Margie and Peter, who were immediately responsive. The estimate was reasonable, and their men got the work done in a very timely way - within a few days of my initial call. Very professional experience and the new lawn looks good. read more

Emerald Landscaping has taken care of my front and backyard mowing for a number of years. They are fair and reliable. Like most things, sometimes a problem occurs. This happened recently over a matter concerning a utility drainpipe in my front lawn area. In a very collaborative and amicable way, Sam responded to the issue, He listened, was open to how to resolve the issue and we quickly came to a mutually agreeable solution. This in itself was a relief and a reason to continue doing business with Emerald Landscaping. Try them and see for yourself. Cheapest quote but definite bait and switch. Worked with them to try to deal with water build up on my property. Discussed a French drain and finally agreed to a proposed solution. When they showed up to do the work it wasn't a French drain at all. Refused to refund even a portion of the deposit. Finally agreed to a modification of their plan (of course with more money from me). In the process of work they dug on an expired ticket from the utility marking company, hit an in ground cable, told me I needed to contact the utility company and that they don't do that, broke a part of my gutter and denied it, and then demanded payment immediately after work even though I was looking at a $500 bill for the broken cable. The work seems decent enough, although on the cheap side and not what I wanted but I won't ever work with these guys again. read more

We extended our patio to take advantage of some unused space in our yard and have more usable outdoor space. Emerald is the worst company to deal with by far. Sam B. the owner is not a good businessman/owner and is out to rip off his customers. First of all, never work with a landscaper that does not come to your house and professionally evaluate the work in person to provide a quote. Emerald, more specifically Rude Peter, made my wife take a picture of the back yard and sent to them to quote off of. Completely missed the mark. When my wife told them exactly what she wanted (regrade a small portion of the back yard and then replace with SOD - Simple). What I got was Emerald Landscaping sending 5 guys to my house that could not speak a work of ENGLISH, they tore out a bunch of health grass, dug holes and then covered it with CHEAP HAY and laid down grass seed. However my wife was charged full price, over $1000. Sam, Peter and Margie are rude and unprofessional. NEVER HIRE THESE AMATEURS. All the positive review you see are "Set Up" by Sam B. to make them look better than they really are. read more

The owner came to my house and provided me a fair quote. Emerald designed my landscaping that includes various grasses, plants and added a decorative boulder that earns compliments from my neighbors. Emerald Landscaping required around $400 up front to do my small front yard, but kept my refused to return my deposit when they couldn't find the scrubs to match the ones in my yard already. Instead they actually told me they could get "better" plants than the ones I had. I cancelled with them when they continued to be iffy on the date of service and if course not having the scrubs I requested. It was all about the bucks and not customer service. I do seriously considered Small Claims Court, but the legal fees would be more than my $400 Emerald Landscaping did not return to me. Buyer Beware with this company. read more

Deceptive practices. The manager gave me a quote on a patio which was not based on what I had told him but on some work less than what I wanted, so the price was lower than others and I hired the company. But when I asked for the items I wanted (drainage pipes, river rocks, etc.) when the work started, he said it's not included so I had to pay extra. Also, they rarely tell you when the crew are coming, or not coming so you have to call them to confirm. If you use a credit card, which is a normal business practice, they will charge you a fee. Don't recommend this company to anyone. read more

Our front steps had to be demo'd and rebuilt. Sam (the owner) is incredibly easy to work with and very flexible. We were working with a tight timeline with our daughter's birthday (and ensuing party/out of town guests etc) and Sam was able to get the job done as promised. I was contacted by the owner, Sam, a couple days after writing my previous review. He wanted to set up a time to review the work. By then, I had been given the run around by Evelyn for months, and I had contracted with someone else to fix their work. I was just sick of dealing with them and rolled it into another project I was having done. It was a project that Emerald could have had.
