It was date night and I had to be on my A game because we were celebrating my beautiful girlfriend's birthday. I made a Wednesday reservation at the Emerald Loop which in hindsight was unnecessary because they operate a spacious diner and have lots of available space, but better safe than sorry especially in Chicago. The staff was welcoming and attentive; it's safe to say my waiter made sure my water cup runneth over. For dinner, I had the Carne Asada wrap with Elote which was marvelous and enough food to take leftovers. She had the burger and fries which "hit the spot." For an appetizer we had the pretzel, you should probably ask for double warm cheese unless you like your mustard a little horseradishy. All in all, finding a restaurant named after my girlfriend was one thing, but when they played her favorite song, Dog Days Are Over it was the icing on her birthday cake. Very easy walk from our hotel one block away. We visited on a week night post dinner rush. They have outdoor seating available but we chose to sit Inside. The restaurant had a nice mixture of clientele: families, business dinners and friends catching up. The ambiance was laid back and the menu had all types of foods. The night of our visit, the burger with a side was on special for ten dollars. I ordered a burger medium rare and fried chips. The food came out quickly but I was a little disappointed as my chips were stale. Our waitress changed them out for me and the next batch was a little better but still had some stale chips in the second batch. I choose to believe that it was just an off night on the chips. On a positive note, my burger was delicious! I also ordered a Pineapple Bubbles drink which had Brut champagne, coconut, pineapple juice and Malibu rum. It was delicious and I would most definitely order it again. Overall, I was happy that this Pub provided a great environment to catch up with my friends. Paired well with the an Indian curry and cheese sauce like I'd expect in a proper high end pub. The only unauthentic part were the fries - they were thick but not proper. The taste didn't suffer! Im happy this bar was one of the few places still open after arriving later in Chicago. There was a line to get seated but that wasn't too bad. After being seated we looked at the menu and waited and waited and waited. We even saw other guest who were seated after us being greeted and brought drinks by their server. But it was cool, we ordered our food and drinks and after that the service was pretty fast. I took a client to lunch today as Emerald Loop is downstairs in my new office building. The server showed us to our table and gave us plenty of time to go through the menu. I was in a salad mood so I went with the goat cheese, pear and chicken salad ($12.95). The salad also included walnuts, mixed greens and a very good raspberry poppy seed dressing. The mixture of the goat cheese and the chicken was pretty damn awesome with the dressing setting it off...hell yeah! My client got the rueben and he said it was pretty good.
