I want to start by saying to the staff that I appreciate their care and compassion during a heartbreaking time. I know they did what they could for my dog, and I don't doubt that they meant well. That said, I need to share my experience so others can make fully informed decisions. My 10-year-old dog was in respiratory distress, with multiple serious health issues including a heart murmur, congestive heart failure, and a collapsed trachea. She was placed in oxygen and given medications. I was told she had stabilized enough to go home after a 12-hour stay. They called and said, "you can come get your baby girl she's good to go home." As you can imagine we were so excited!! She pulled through and we were going to get more time with her. We showed up to get her and when they brought her to us she was panting the same way she was when I brought her in. I asked if they were sure she was ok to go home, and they said yes that's it's just anxiety and she's been doing great. So, they gave her a couple of anxiety pills and after a $1900 bill sent us on our way. But the moment we got home, it was clear she was not okay. She was panting, disoriented, lifting her head to breathe, and unable to settle. She wouldn't even look at me -- completely unlike her. Despite being told she had been off oxygen and doing fine in a regular room, I now believe she was never truly stable. She passed away at 4:30 a.m. just hours after coming home. I'm grateful to have been with her at the end -- but it was traumatic, and I can't help but feel she should have never been discharged in that condition. I wish I'd been given a clearer, more honest picture of her state. If I had known how close she was to the end, I would have chosen to let her go peacefully at the hospital instead of watching her struggle all night. I'm sharing this with love, not anger. But I do hope the hospital reflects on how fragile animals like her are, and how important transparency is -- especially when time is short. read more

Great Vet doctors and staff. They saved my cat from huge blockage of strings, etc in her stomach. I knew it was going to be expensive as I took her in a Sunday, but I was in distress I didn't read the fine print. Just make sure they explain every charge as I assumed that hospitalization would be a one time charge, but they charge per hour and at around 30.00. My baby was there 22 hours. Total She cost me the amount I could have bought a used car, yikes so have them explain every detail. I did get a credit as not all services were applied. They did save my sick baby and with great care. read more

Dr. Nick Thompson at the clinic was seriously great. He was super kind, easy to talk to, and made a really stressful situation feel a lot less overwhelming. He explained everything in a way that actually made sense and didn't rush us at all. You can tell he genuinely cares about the animals and the people bringing them in. He treated my pet with so much care and patience, which meant a lot. I'm really thankful we had him during an emergency--definitely would recommend him to anyone who needs a vet in a stressful situation. read more

"Upsold in an Emergency - Walked Out Instead" Took my vizsla in for distress. Tech said "bloated stomach" without touching his belly. Diagnosed in 2 minutes. Pushed a $300 shot and sending x-rays to a specialist. When I said no, they suggested I leave a review. When I said I didn't care about reviews, they got upset. Felt like a sales pitch, not emergency care. Left and handled it at home--dog's fine now. Trust your gut. Go somewhere that cares about your pet, not their ratings. read more

We had to bring our Lab to the Emergency Vet Clinic of Destin after she got hurt and was having trouble walking. The fact that they're open 24 hours was a lifesaver. Dr. Meredith and the entire staff were incredibly kind, patient, and reassuring from the moment we walked in. They took great care of our dog and made a stressful situation so much easier. Very caring and compassionate group of people working here. If you have an issue with your pet, day or night, they will do everything they can to put your mind at ease. Our dog had "swimmer tail," which, being first-time Lab owners, we had never heard of. She was in a lot of pain, wouldn't sit down, couldn't get comfortable, etc. We brought her in on a late Sunday, and they did everything they could to make her comfortable and explained how to make her feel better. No, it's not inexpensive, but what emergency service is? But they are there when you need them and will help your fur baby get better. Cannot say enough about them! read more

I brought my animal in for eating a lot of chocolate she found somewhere. While I was in person, the doctors were great. They did insist, and borderline pushed me to the point of a breakdown, of transferring my animal to Niceville whenever I explained that the bill I was going to receive was going to take all of my money. They made it work within what I could pay (they asked my max limit and went $10 over ), gave us medicine and sent us on our way. Tonight I called over some new issues and spoke with Ryan (I hope I heard that right). Ryan answered every question with "um I mean yeah I'd bring her in." Okay, I've already told you I can't afford it. I just graduated college and I'm 22 with no means of money. Especially a $1200 check for my dog, which was my September rent! Could you do me a big one and just tell me if diarrhea for more than 6 hours is considered normal for a dog who ate chocolate, changed her diet, and was out on antibiotics all within 12 hours? What was his response? "Uhhhh, I mean... yeah I'd probly (not even probably) bring her in." And I mean every question "I mean I'd bring her in" or "oh that's happening because we didn't treat for that." Ryan, as I explained to you on the phone.. I have NO money. I cannot afford to bring my dog in, have her stay for a WEEK like the original doctors kept telling me (not asking by the way) what they were going to do, nor can I afford to transfer her to Niceville! Can you answer anything without "I mean I'd bring her in"? Look through the last reviews, see how they've responded to ONE out of .. how many.. negative comments. Oh! But have responded to the good reviews? I would have rather put my dog down the old school way than EVER bring her to this shit hole and their teenagered staff. By the way- I waited 8 fucking hours in a room with my dog to be sent home with TWO days worth of medication. Thank you Destin ER vet! BOOK A FLIGHT TO ANOTHER ER VET IN ANOTHER STATE. If you really have an emergency, do not go to this vet. I Came in on a Saturday and I was the only customer. My female dog Skylar has blood in her urine. They asked me to get Skylar to pee in a cup outside, which amazingly I successfully did. Then I waited, alone for 3 hours. When I inquired she said the urinalysis had not even been started yet... and now the pee was "not fresh enough" and they needed Skylar to pee in a cup again. This is with no other customers around. So I left. I will go to a real Vetenarian, my regular one, on Monday. Maybe it's called Emergency Veterinary Clinic because one must be in very, very desperate need of medical attention before you should ever go there. read more

This group did not run test on my dog, misdiagnosed him and euthanized him My dog had coccidia and could've been treated with medicine, but instead of running any test or anything on him, they came in and told me they needed to put him down and euthanize him that day that he would not make it through the night read more

Hucksters and charlatans. I, like another reviewer, waited 3 hours for nothing more than a $700 bill for who knows what, maybe to pay all the unqualified staff running around. There was only one person in the waiting room when I arrived. The vet, supposedly a doctor, Phil Blumer, finally lumbered in the room after 3 hours and kept referring to my obviously male dog as a she, pushed more tests, did not know why I brought him in in the first place, despite writing it on a form and telling the vet tech, who took my dog out of the room to take his temperature, and when she returned, she "forgot" to take his temperature, so removed him from the room again. I do not know what these people are actually qualified to do, but if you have an emergency with your pet, avoid these losers, who are nothing more than pretend vets who will rob you blind and do nothing for your pet. read more

This clinic and staff were amazing to our dog who had to come in for an overnight stay. I am so thankful for their work and dedication- we were visiting here on vacation when our dog became very sick. We were sent here from another vet in the area and saw Dr. Meredith Dooley, and she was AMAZING! She was very personable and knowledgeable and made us feel like our dog was in the best hands. Not to mention the staff was very attentive and let us know that we could call to check in as much as we needed. When we came to pick him up in the morning they took the time to explain everything to us and the entire staff was very loving to our pet. Emergency visits are always stressful and scary but this staff made it the best experience that it could be under the circumstances. read more

Do not waste your time. The facility and staff are not prepared for an emergency. I waited 4 hours with my dog who was in an emergency situation, having bloody stool after a serious vestibular episode. I guess they deemed that as not an emergency. They called four hours after I checked in to see if I was still waiting in their parking lot. Make the drive to Panama City if you need emergency pet visits. read more

They listened to my concerns about my dog and explained everything so well. I hope I don't have to go back but if I do I know my baby will be taken care of. read more

While on vacation my dachshund hurt her back and I used Yelp to find an emergency vet. They were close to the hotel and after calling them I went. The vet tech and the doctor were great and their prices were surprisingly reasonable! Better than my vet back home for routine checkups. read more
