Medications were mishandled on multiple occasions, and basic hygiene needs were often neglected. The facility itself looked fine at first glance, but once you're inside regularly, you notice a lack of cleanliness and attention to detail. My concerns were repeatedly brushed off by management, who seemed more focused on appearances than actual care. Not like those big hospital types. Its simply a home that has been renovated to accommodate senior living/care. I know the owner and trust me, you are getting excellent care. This home is in a nice neighborhood in Hemet in front of an Animal park. The excellent care is worth the money you pay. The staff will treat your parent/grandparent like family. I lived at Sunwest Village, in the "independent living Villas," for 18 months. During that time it…read morewas owned by Merrill Gardens,Emeritus and then Brookdale (the corporation that took over Emeritus.) In my experience, it did not matter who owned and operated it, as the behavior and attitudes of the long-time staff continued on the same regardless. As a result, Sunwest is the WORST place I have ever lived in my life. Rather than treating the residents as valued and respected elders who deserve excellent service, many of the staff act as if the residents are their parents or grandparents who are supposed to take care of them. Staff chronically complain to residents about how overworked they are, and use that as an excuse for not doing their jobs. It is necessary to fight for every service that is supposed to be included in the monthly fee. For example, the "Villa" I moved into was infested with black widow and other types of spiders. My first week there I killed 27 black widows just in the garage! Although the spider infestation presented an obvious health hazard, I had a constant battle with staff to get our place exterminated, a service that is supposed to be provided. Getting assistance from maintenance was also an ongoing fight, and the quality of the service was hardly worth fighting for. The maintenance staff flooded 2 rooms of my "Villa" while fixing a simple leak in the toilet, because they had incorrectly turned off the water at the outside main valve! The buildings are old and have not been renovated since being built in the '70s so they need a lot of maintenance, but good luck getting it when you need it. The landscaping service would mow the lawns on a regular basis but would ignore the weeds growing in the yard. I decided to let them grow just to see how bad it would get and I had weeds that were over 3 feet tall before they cut them down! After Housekeeping would come and do the "light cleaning" (my neighbor called it "a spit and a promise") I would take a wet paper towel and wipe it across the newly mopped floor and the paper towel would be filthy. While I can only write about my own experiences, other residents told me they had the same problems or worse. One thing almost all the residents appeared to agree on is that the food is terrible! It is almost all processed, in very small portions, limited variety, tastes bad and appears to be bad for you. I did not eat a meal at Sunwest the entire last year I lived there as I just could not stomach the food. Although I was forced to continue paying for meals as Sunwest will not adjust their pay structure even if you don't eat there. The person I live with was having chronic extreme gas and horrible diarrhea and the doctors could not figure out why. The day he left Sunwest the problem stopped and he hasn't had a single episode since. The best advice I can give anyone about Sunwest Village is "stay away!"

Supervisor or only RN on each station tried to ignore you if you had questions . Had to be there daily and do a lot of complaining to get anything done for my family. Administration of course was nice since they don't want complaints. Try and stay away from this place if possible if not please stay on top of your family or it's bad patient care from start to finish

Desert Hills Memory Care Center We visited several…read moreresidential care facilities before entrusting our mother to Desert Hills Memory Care Center, which was recommended by the family of a resident. Gratefully, there was no institiutional appearance to turn us away. Instead an airy bright, cheerful, resort-like ambiance greeted us. Mature trees swaying in the light breeze, potted plants, a relaxed, cozy and inviting guest services desk, with a platter of fresh baked cookies on the counter. We were immediatley put at ease. Appearance versus staff: it was the people! Cheerful, helpful, always willing to serve. We chose this facility for those reasons. Its been 2 1/2 years now and Mother's laundry is expertly done, her clothing accounted for and returned to her-not mixed or lost in with the general populous. Her room is always clean, housekeeping done on a weekly basis. The food is appetizingly served and a nutritious diet followed. Mother has been surrounded by her own belongings and furniture, in a beautiful private room with a view. All the common areas shine, very inviting. From the very beginning, the staff set out to familiarize themselves with mother's medical/physical condition, wants and needs and have unfailingly sought to meet these. She is catered to!! The work is hard but staff make it seems effortless and always with a smile. Mother has six children, 13 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, a sister and brother, nieces and nephews, thus many, many visitros. It is a great relief that all concerns are addressed immediately. We have received nothing but positive feedback. When asked mother always answers, "They can't do enough for me." From the very beginning Desert Hills staff has gone out of its way to make mother, family and friends feel welcome, any time, all the time. Our family is confident mother is safe, secure and very well cared for at Desert Hills.
