I have been calling this facility for months and months to get info regarding my dad and his health concerns - it has been a total nightmare from day one. I do have to admit I know basic Spanish not fluent at all and most of time I only get Spanish speaking people which does me absolutely no good in getting the needed info . I live in Missouri NOT California so anything I can do on the phone is much more workable vs email or texting. today I finally got to speak to the new director of Assisted living :) so I will see if that works if she calls me back - I have questions and concerns that really should be addressed. I have found out that his caregiver case manager thru the masonic lodge was made his guardian and conservator which I know is very unethical since he has some capable family members so my concerns are regarding continuity of care, general health, mental health ,diet, G&H questions. will update if I get a call back , usually I don't. read more

Wonderful and caring assisted living. It just has a warm feeling the minute you walk in. Every staff member truly cares for the residents and treats them as if they were their own family. They do an excellent job meeting all of their needs. If there are any concerns with my loving aunt. it gets addressed right away and I am informed immediately. The activities program is like no other. My aunt is always laughing and is always participating in something. The food is good and the community is absolutely gorgeous. Not to mention it has a pool, Pickleball court, a theater and three libraries. Although she doesn't use all of the amenities she would like to think she does. Most of the time doing arts and crafts with the other ladies or playing bingo. For my family and I Westmont Riverside has been a real blessing. read more

We began exploring Westmont of Riverside a few years ago as we planned for my dad's future move. By September 2025, he was ready to join a senior community where he could have more security and support. When I visited Westmont of Riverside, Domonique gave me a helpful tour. The apartments are comfortable and feature kitchens for those who enjoy cooking. There's also a restaurant on-site for residents who prefer not to prepare their own meals. I'm grateful to Domonique and Angel for being so kind, professional, and helpful during the planning process for my dad's move. Every time I visit, the staff greets me warmly. My dad has lived in his apartment for a month now and really enjoys the facilities. He likes spending time outdoors on the well-kept trails, and the staff and residents are all very friendly. I'm glad everything worked out, and I always look forward to visiting such a welcoming place. If you're thinking about moving to Westmont of Riverside, I highly recommend these apartments. They're spacious, have new appliances and flooring, and get lots of natural light from the many windows. The small patios are ideal for relaxing and taking in the fresh air. There's a shuttle service for medical appointments, organized trips to grocery stores, a barber and hair salon, a small gift shop, and numerous other amenities to help keep residents active. There are also lots of activities to choose from. The staff said it best: people move here to thrive, and I can definitely tell from how happy my dad is. I have lived here four years now and fees are continuing to increase. We wanted to stay because of the residents and agreed to downsize to a smaller house. Based on Zillow I have watched rents change daily. Today we went to transfer to a home listed for $2,396 - had check in hand to spend a $2,000 transfer fee, plus, plus, plus only to be told the rent listed in Zillow was wrong. It was actually $2,577. This felt like a bait and switch to us. Therefore, will are packed and, will now have to look outside of Westmont. This is why they have such a low rating. read more

wow, i feel like our family has been scammed. my sister ran across westmont as we were looking for a home for our father. she took a tour and informed myself and my brother of all the details regarding westmont. we set up an appointment and toured the facility on november 4th. my father is 89 and will be 90 at the begining of the year. he has dementia and is of need of a memory care program. on the 4th of november our family took a tour and the staff showed us the room he would be staying in starting november 30th along with all the features of the facility. we left a $5,595.00 deposit check on novemeber 4th. we jumped through all of the hoops setting up appointments for the (required) 602 form, a tb test and assestment from westmonts employees coming to his home (to evaluate his care and if cost would increase due to his needs). we fillied out required infomation online, that was extensive, and changed his health care insurance due to what was needed for westmont. on the 18th of november my sister received a call from the staff member who had done the assestment. she informed my sister that my dad had been up for review and that they declined him at westmont due to signs of aggression along with the fact two other male patients also show signs of aggression. my sister called me and i was speechless. i contacted via text our sign in contact and asked her to please call me back, as i had some questions and concerns. nope, i got a text back stating that she had heard the news and was tied up in meetings. she said that a cancellation and the deposit check would be sent to po box address on file. they cashed the check on november 7th. so i have reached out this week (dec 5th) to find out about cancellation and check. have had no luck. no return calls. tried to talk to someone at the corporate office and left messages. nothing. good luck to anyone looking into westmont! read more

In September 2022, I helped move my 70+ year-old parents here from So. Carolina as they needed assistive living and needed to be closer to a family member that would help monitor their care. I was so impressed with the facility and the amenities. Unfortunately, once they moved in, we realized all of the problems that come with the facility at an astounding monthly cost. I've waited to post this, hoping that things would improve as they've gotten a new chef and new executive director. I've also met and spoken with the new ED a few times, advocating for my parents, but things really haven't improved. 1. Just prior to their move-in, they were scheduled to meet with the resident director who oversees the medical areas. She gave my parents a medication test, without any notice, and "on the sly" and deemed that both needed medication assistance. There was no choice. I would like to add that both of their doctors had completed their medical paperwork to move in there and noted that they could take their meds on their own. They completely disregarded that. They made this decision because my parents couldn't name the medication, with its true prescription name. Many people, younger than them can't do that. They then added almost $1500 to their monthly costs, just like that! 2. Upon their move-in, the facility had the date wrong and didn't give us their fobs or keys for weeks. The garbage chutes were backed up and the trash collectors weren't coming (some kind of contract disagreement). They weren't given an orientation or tour, so it took months to figure out how to facilitate various procedures, etc. It took months to get them hooked up to their "Lifeloop", the platform that has the activities listed, etc. It is supposed to have the menu posted and be a communication tool for them (and family) to email with questions. No one answers those emails and when asked about it, they told me that they don't really use that, just email or call them. 3. Internet/Wi-Fi- Westmont contracted with a new company, maybe a year ago, and it is horrible!! I can barely call my parents on their cell phones without calls dropping or we can't hear each other. They've been isolated from their the rest of the family and their grandchildren because they can't Facetime/Skype etc, or even talk on the phone. Purchases have been ordered twice, accidentally, because the internet lagged so my mother hit purchase again and it orders it twice. 4. The dining services are atrocious! (We did taste the food when we were looking at the facility; it seems that it was specially made for us and service was improved for us that day). The food is cold, often buffet style (my father is wheelchair-bound, so my mother with severe pain and can't stand long as to stand in line and get both meals). They have pork multiple times a week, most of the food is not cooked well (overcooked, or boiled vegetables). They have now started offering table service again, and my parents have waited over 1.5 hours just to be waited on and get a drink served to them! 5. It takes quite a long time for med techs to come to help the residents when they push their emergency button; my father has laid on the tile floor or 1/2 off of his bed for over 30 minutes. God forbid it was dire! They often bring the medication early and ask my dad to not take it for 1 hour, so why are we paying for med management when he clearly can take his own meds? 6. I have had to advocate and call up the chain over medication, work orders, food, the internet, not getting an itemized bill, and more, but the staff now make comments to my parents like "well I don't want to get in trouble by your daughter", or "maybe your daughter will complain". 7. Their process and procedures are either non-existent or antiquated. They don't have a map of the main buildings so that residents can find the rooms/venues to go to when there is an activity. I made one and shared it with staff! Their requests for Work Orders, and transportation are challenging to access, at best. I've upset for all of the residents; however my parents sold their home and everything they owned, to start over at 72 years old, 3,000 miles away from where they've lived their whole life. This should have increased their quality of life, not decreased it. I will add some kudos: 1. Carla, Activities Director, is amazing. She has tried to help me, even when it wasn't her job (it's no one's assigned job to give an orientation or a tour to new residents and their families??). 2. Todd, their driver is so very nice and accommodating. 3. They have a nice variety and plethora of activities and events. 4. Most staff are very nice. read more

That is probably true of the staff at all medical facilities! Food is a big struggle, service and food. I don't think they pay their help well. They nickel and dime u for everything. Charge for putting anything in a Togo container, so if it takes a hour to get it meal and dessert comes and u want to leave and just take it with u because ur tired, they charge u !! dinner has taken as long as 2hrs. Rules change and they aren't informative, thing slowly have been taken away. Another big one is their lack of security. The healthcare personnel have been good, and the lower staff are nice. The staff could not locate one of their memory care customers. I went to pick up one of their customers to transport to a memorial service of a friend, but Westmont Village could not locate their memory care client. A bit concerning...but it turns out later that the person had been to chapel services and was OK. But she missed a good friend's memorial service. read more

We thought this place was great when we moved in. Safe, they renovated the homes that hadn't been lived in for some time, and the amenities appeared to be good. However, I require high-speed internet and enjoy the selection that Spectrum offered. We were told there would be another better internet and TV provider soon. Now, 2 years later, we find out the truth. As the facility began filling up, Spectrum was on site daily fixing issues with the aging infrastructure. I had them out 3 times, but after that I was extremely pleased with the service. 450Mbps internet, 2 DVRs and plenty of channels to choose from. Westmont has taken over the infrastructure now, with a central DirecTV dish on the main building. They hired Broadband Hospitality (BBH) to support the install and ongoing support of the TV and internet. BBH took the Spectrum feed and added the DirecTV signal. To summarize, here's what I had and what they migrated to: Speed: from 450Mbps to 6Mbps if your lucky. Wifi: My own router with full strength throughout the house, to a hotel access point that covers one room. Devices: Unlimited on my own router to EIGHT. I have 30 devices! TV: Whatever Spectrum Package I wanted to pay for with 2 DVRs to a basic package with 90 channels and none of our favorites, no option to upgrade or add channels, and some kind of cloud DVR we don't even have access to. BIGGEST TAKEAWAY, they are charging $99 for this, I was paying about $105 for Spectrum!!!!! Bottom line, if internet or TV is important to you, run away. Evidently this is a moneymaker for Westmont, because if I had a choice on the open market there is NO WAY I would choose this option. read more

My husband and I moved here over a year ago. I must say, the neighbors are extremely friendly and I love the peace this village gives. However, I must say I am disappointed at the their customer service. I have had a few things going on in my home that needed fixing, so I placed a work order, it usually gets ignored for months until I get irritated and I let Keith the manager know about it. As we speak, I am still waiting for them to respond to one of my work orders in my home. Change of tune now; our great internet service provider was changed into the entire community for a crappy one. Want to know the kicker? It is a very unsafe connection, it is the same kind we get in a public place like Starbucks, or airport yet, we are being charged 90.00 per month to have access to this unreliable, worthless service. This internet access drops every 15 minutes or so and with it my netflix. Dont forget to mention my work computer for My Zoom meetings drop or freeze in the middle of it making me seem like an unreliable professional. Most of the time my smart TV is asking to reconnect to the server over and over again. I wish Westmont Villages would stop making choices for us residents as if we were school aged children and stop cutting our choices away. They completely cut off the underground cables from our last internet provider that was flawless. Why replace it? Money? They said it was old. But we had no vote in the matter. We have complained about it over again; and, when I myself reached out to the front desk, the receptionist named Angel speaked in a condescending dismissive way over the phone to me. I had to approached them in person and let them know that this behavior was unacceptable and requested to speak to the manager Noah or Noel whatever his name is. I only got a promise that they would look into getting me an appointment and they will email me. My feeling over this matter is that they believe they are dealing with senile people that will eventually forget about our requests or problems in our units and internet choices given to us. Respect to the residents is required. I am only waiting a little longer to see what is done about my situation. read more

The current review from " Ernie" is spot on the situation and unfortunately even worse. We are told that we are just renters and the signs advertising westmont no longer include senior or community or village. There are no welfare checks and family has to call sheriff as a neighbor's family did to find resident deceased. There are less than 20 residents still bundled which means 1 meal per day for the extra $1,000 for monthly rent and is no longer available for any newer renters. I am now unbundling due to the new increased meal pickup charge of $8 from $3 which my caregiver would get me on certain drays since I'm in a wheelchair. I also was able to pay the original $3 charge ahead for a month but now you have to send your credit for each single meal of $8 and take receipt to kitchen to pick up paper bag meal. New charges occur on a regular basis. Much more incidents could be cited but I'll just say Buyer Be Wary! read more

A great place to live. I have only been here a little over a month but I am really enjoying it. It's a bit misleading when it says it's assisted living. I live in a independent living cottage. There is assisted-living, apartments, memory care. I really like that it is so quiet, safe, and well-maintained. There's so much to do if you wish to join in. They say it takes a village and here everyone is so very friendly and helpful from my neighbors to the staff.I am looking forward to the new year and taking part in some of the activities offered.In the meantime I'm going to sit here in front of my fireplace with a cup of coffee and watch the bunnies playing in my backyard. I lived at Westmont Village from 2022 to July of 2024. The security deposit was $2195. They returned only $895. What happened to the other $1300. The neighbors are nice, but management is charging for everything that they said was included in the rent: landscaping, waste management, maintenance. Also, their internet does not work. I had to pay for satellite service to get reliable internet. When I moved in, they said you could get internet and direct tv for $99. That never happened because their equipment seldom worked. Also, when I left, I removed everything from the house, left it in good condition. Now they are telling me, I have to pay for them to sanitize/clean the house. I left the carpet clean, the floor clean, the house in good condition. It is their responsibility to clean, sanitize, and get it ready for the next tenant. The keys were turned in on July 29th, but their photos are from August 1st. Until they change management, I would not move into Westmont again. Where is my $1300; I am on fixed income. I sent the owners a letter with my complaint. Waiting to hear back from them and get my money back. read more

Management is horrible. They don't care about the seniors residing here. They will nickel & dime you for everything!!! They charge your bill for events you don't attend. This is NOT a secured community as they advertise. It's gated but anyone can come in. Lots of mailbox thefts. They get you in here on the pretense that they have so many amenities but then they charge you for them. Only one maintenance man for just under 400 homes. They say they have internet but it's horrible service YOU pay for. Constant sporadic service and nowadays if your internet is down your security system is down and most things Bluetooth. Their cable service is BBH, a hotel service so your channels are few and limited. And these items are items you pay for. Your outside options are extremely limited due to their monopoly with BBH. You can't even get a good service like Spectrum in here (I've tried!) they will lie to you about the community and then you will realize you are paying way more than the monthly rent itself. And now a $75 additional fee for landscaping that is pretty much non existent and you can not get your own landscaper. Why would you? It's all community properties. It's a fee that you must pay, just like if you want crappy internet or cable. Oh and the walking trails they brag about? Unless a resident takes it upon themselves to maintain them, they are crappy and overgrown. The dog park they advertise? Again, unless they are maintained by residents, they are overgrown with weeds and just a plain mess. This is a community that is no benefit to seniors. They just say that. Very greedy management here. The current PM couldn't care less about this community. read more

They are hosting a meeting for residents and family members in the middle of the week a half hour before the residents dinner time at 4:00 pm. This is in response to Gabriella's reply on 7/13/22 to my original review: Westmont suggested we contact Keith Kasen, property manager, to have our issues resolved. Keith has come to our home to see the issues for himself. I have sent him numerous emails and voicemails that go unanswered. And I am sorry, but Westmont using Covid as an excuse is insulting. Our landscaping hasn't been done in over 6 months. We can see landscapers working on the main areas you see as you drive in on any given day. There are workers here. If you don't have maintenance workers to install a toilet, you hire a plumber. There were plenty of plumbers willing to install toilets (that have been available at hardware stores during the pandemic). Maybe we still wouldn't be having issues with the toilet if a plumber had installed it. A resident shouldn't have to wait for 18 months and then have management use Covid as an excuse. Same goes for not repairing our oven for a year. I could go on and on. Bottom line is, I think it would be an unwise decision to move into Westmont Village right now. read more

We recently moved to Westmont after being surprised by what a retirement community had to offer. As I get older, commuting is getting more challenging and the quality of homes and life in Long Beach is getting more difficult to afford even with a moderate salary. We stopped at Westmont, located at March Field and were shocked by thy he beauty, and value of the homes and community for the price, do definitely affordable. The train station is just minutes away and easily accessible. I've been a train commuter for the last week now and I love it. I may never drive to work again! During our walk through the beautiful campus, we were greeted by friendly staff and residents, we toured an open house as well as a home being remodeled, and we visited several booths to gain valuable information to help my dad make an educated decision when the time comes. I have been looking for a community for my mom and after considering many, I felt very comfortable with the sales team and was amazed by the open space, views, gracious homes and especially liked the apartments in the main building as they are conveniently located to the amenities my mom would use the most. As far as communities go, Westmont has a neighborhood feel with cul de sac streets and and rolling landscape. It feels like where mom grew up. As I toured, residents were smiling, buildings were fresh, and staff were cheerful even in the midst of heightened COVID awareness. I feel we have found a new home for mom. read more

If I could give 0 stars I absolutely would. The residents are wonderful and the caregivers really WORK HARD. Their is 3 caregivers for 55 residents maybe a few are out of the facility. Their is only 2 medtechs who also do caregiving. All the staff is over worked and under payed sadly it shows because they are not able to give the proper time and care each resident needs. They have a huge staff turn over and many quit weekly. Janet the assistant director just goes around the facility with her prideful ego and just finds any wrong that the staff is doing and reprimands them in front of other staff and humiliates them. She can't even catch you sitting at the nurses station filling out your menus for the residents or she gets upset that your sitting and not working. She never gets her hands dirty to assist the caregivers or medtechs. She also dismisses the residents when they have concerns. JANET NEEDS TO BE MORE COMPASSIONATE AND CAREING OF THE LITTLE STAFF SHE HAS. INSTEAD OF GOING AROUND always just lookin to fIND WRONG. GO AROUND AND SPREAD positivness and lift your caregivers spirits. Let them know they are doing a GREAT job and thank them for doing doubles. Also for having to stay when other staff call off or quit. She is a horrible assistant director if she keeps up what she is doing I certain that I see a Class action lawsuit against her and the company for not protecting their employees in the near future. read more

We had a family member in the assisted living section and then in the memory care (Compass Rose) section. Our family had issues with Westmount Village in both areas. The first problems was with the billing, overcharging and took months to get credits applied to the billing to get it resolved. Westmount suggested that they felt that our family member needed more care and was moved to the memory unit (Compass Rose) with locked doors and limited access, which we agreed to. As we wanted the best care available. Twice he was found wandering the grounds unsupervised. Outside the memory care unit. Last year he passed away (not their fault). Again a billing problem with Westmount as they continued to bill and sent our family to a collection company and I finally got them to stop the billing. Now I continue to get "Family Meeting Notices" to meet with Westmount at least twice a month. I have called the Riverside locations numerous times to get them to stop. Our family member is DEAD and leave me alone. Every time they say yes, but it still continues! I called their corporate office (858-456-1233) , but all you get is voice mail. I've left messages to have them stop. But it still continues. Please beware before you entrust yourself, a family member or a friend to Westmount. Their management is non responsive or just doesn't care. read more

I lived in a cottage there for one year, and it was a very long year! A few things as to why: 1. All looks and sounds wonderful when you enter, but be leery of the sale pitch upon signing. Like for instance, they are having a sales on cottages for $100-200 less per month, or that free debit card you get after one month because they are having a "sale". It will be taken from you at the end of your contract. You will not get your deposit (or the last months rent) in return. It happened to me, and two other families while I was there. 2. I had notified them that I was leaving, and needed one extra month. I paid the extra required for that month, plus some other fees they decided to add on. When I relinquished the keys, they came back with I had not informed them and added an extra month. 3. I had their internet and TV services (which were useless), so when searching for the email communications pertaining to #2, they were not there. They mysteriously disappeared. Since they have an open network (like a Hotels), were they, had they always had access to my/our affairs? Some opt to purchase their own. It wasn't in my budget however. 4. When I received their last billing with walk through charges, I was charged for items that pertained to another cottage. I moved out April 2024, but this is based on their own pictures showing a date of June 2023 that were included in my billing. I lived on Vandenberg, the pictures were for Twining. I've yet to hear from them about that. 5. Not to mention the coyotes running rampant on the compound. Even near the Assisted Living and Memory Care. I had to take my dog to my daughters because they were at my back patio door, front door, and frequently used the thoroughfare between my cottage and my neighbors as their path to the ravine across the street. I couldn't leave my dog out to get sun or even go out for walks. Some would tell me the coyotes won't hurt anyone. Then right before I left they found a den with 20 + pet collars in it. 6. I assume due to the greenbelts...but the mosquitos and crawlers are horrible. I couldn't do enough to get rid of them. I had bug zappers going on 24 hours, put stickies on my windows, sprayed and put granules around the perimeter. 7. There were postal box thefts. The time it happened to my box, it took repairing my box 2 months to be resolved. Between the post office not claiming property of it, and maintenance the time to fix it. 8. Front gate is not secured as advertised. No one mans it and push button keeper doesn't question anybody. 9. You will be charged for "anything" needed and/or breaks. In this case, everything is old, so things will break. If the cottage has not been updated, the others (as mine was) have Windows, screens and patio doors that are single pane with old rusted metal. HVAC's are very old and only repaired or replaced when they break, and at a cost to you. They are not serviced regularly. I remember visiting the compound in the 1980's and they had been rehabbed then. And one more time a good 20 years ago. 10. The aesthetics of it is nice and inviting, for the exception of the dog park and walking trails. Management also plans on changing out the green belts and front yards to rocks. A few have been done already. I understand the water saving issues, but the aesthetics is what brought us here. The negligence behind the scenes is what makes us leave. Hopefully this is rectified for those who remain, mainly the very elderly and the retired military folks. Just fyi there. So, enter and sign at your own risk. Now that I am a resident here at Westmont Village Independent Living, I thought I would leave an updated review. I initially came here looking for assisted living for my mom and I loved the place so much my husband and I moved here to their Independent Living area. We have been here a month and we could not be happier. The grounds are so beautiful and well kept. The walking trails are amazing and the views are incredible! The home we moved into is beautiful and so well cared for. It was immaculate when we moved in. The sense of community support here at Westmont has really been a plus especially during such turbulent times. My mom now has finally agreed to move to the assisted living portion and I will be providing another review when she's had time to settle in and see what it is like. read more

My wife and I moved into Westmont Village several months ago. At first, we really liked the place. The staff is nice and the location is convenient. However, we recently found out the ownership of Westmont wants to build warehouses on the actual Westmont property. I moved here to get away from that and we were not told about this action before we signed the paperwork. Ownership said it was in the public record. That does not excuse the lack of disclosure on the part of ownership. I feel they have withheld information deliberately. We are now considering leaving here just having moved in. they say there will be about 180 big rig trucks a day in the area not counting all the additional traffic from employees and customers to the warehouses. This does not sound like a good retirement community anymore. read more

My mother has been in assisted living at this location since 2017. It recently was taken over by Westmont. I do not like the changes. For example, my siblings and I bought new warm clothing for her, only to find the pieces missing a week later. Several times I have found her in a short sleeve shirt as if it were the middle of summer, rather than the winter. Some of the original staff from Alta Vita are amazing. But overall, I would not recommend this location for your loved one. read more
