The point is Emerson waited Monday THE WEEK of spring break to send me a message after 5 o'clock on brightwheel app to tell me my child couldn't attend until 12. No communication. Every time school was out, my child was there before 12. Nobody ever said anything about it then? How I'm supposed to know it's different just because it's spring break? Mind you Our FIRST time ever being there for spring break! Did any teachers/admins reiterate this to me then? Y'all waited the week of through an app to communicate this. A simple phone call would've been a lot more understanding on BOTH ends because in my mind I'm thinking it's something I forgot to do with the WORKFORCE! I can't speak on Tuesday because I didn't drop her off, soo, irrelevant! Now mind you when I came and picked up my daughter Wednesday! (Day 3 into spring break) after just dropping her off. I went in as my norm, got my child and grabbed the few diapers that were there, and her blanket? So what? I was obviously needing to make different arrangements for her for the rest of that week? Stormed out? Stacy Please! You NOR blanca were present. Picking up or dropping off to be exact! Blanca was in the back every time I walked in, so relax. What did I need to say to who? It was a teacher there that I've never had encounter with? Thursday and Friday my child didn't attend? So what? You tell me after just 2 days you took it upon yourself to do some spiteful shit and un enroll my daughter based off Assumptions? Sent her back on a school bus, STILL not contacting her parents? All cause of what you ASSUMED? That's what you told me yesterday over the phone after I had to contact you to see what tf what was going on! THAT was my whole deal! Hell yea I have an issue with YOU! Emerson Academy was a wonderful place for our family. We were so sad to leave when we moved out of town. The teachers and administrators were caring, attentive, and professional. They clearly loved our children and were invested in their growth and development. My son especially loved the animals and affectionately called it "goat school". He transferred there in Pre-K and his teachers were so patient and supportive as he adjusted to a new envirornment. Our daughters started as an infant and was cared for with kindness, capability, and love. We can't recommend Emerson Academy enough! read more

Emerson is a godsend for our son. We are utilizing their summer camp program and our son has absolutely thrived in it. They have met his needs incredibly well; they anticipate when he needs more or less support and adjust accordingly. There seems to be a true community spirit between the kids that attend there, with typical kids supporting and encouraging those like our son who have special needs. Our son's special needs are not called out/drawn attention to, instead Emerson has fostered a community in which the kids and teachers just inherently are accepting/supportive and encouraging with each other. The communication we get is frequent and helpful, we love getting to see pictures and videos from their field trips and knowing how each day is going. I cannot say enough about Emerson, you will not regret enrolling your child there. read more

I would not recommend anyone enrolling their child into this establishment due to their clear neglect for safety of our children. They enable bullying, and refuse to listen to reason on ways that could be improved. I strongly recommend taking your child to a place where their safety comes first and not last. We came to this place with high hopes hearing things like it is a very inclusive school and that they even work with children with special needs. Unfortunately, that was not our experience. In the beginning they were so kind but as time went on they seemed to have issues with our son who does not have the issues they spoke of ANYWHERE else except when he's there. They kept labeling my child as aggressive without being provoked which was a shock to us because again we never had issues anywhere else that he interacts with children (ex: parks, birthday parties, etc). We would receive multiple messages from the school while we are at work, no context and no solutions on their side. They would ask us what they should do, but I thought they were professional childcare workers. We always dreaded getting messages because we never knew what we were going to hear next. Things had seemed to be improving after we had a meeting about how it was attention seeking behavior. I think it's also worth mentioning at this meeting they told us our child needed to be evaluated by the school district and then they got upset with us when the school district never got back to us. Things were quiet, most of days we'd only receive positive feedback with notes of normal toddler behavior, then we received message that his enrollment was up for questioning because he had been "aggressive" and there were "multiple incidents" that they did NOT inform us about until now. Not one incident report was given to us the entire time he was there. I brought up once again that it was attention seeking and that they weren't giving him the attention he needs and was told "that's an interesting theory" as if I don't know my kid and we don't have a meeting agreeing on that previously. After the meeting I also began getting more observant during pick ups because I just could not understand where this disconnect between his regular life activities and school was. I witnessed children getting hurt with no adults noticing until a significant amount of time passed and the child was told they were "fine". I witnessed children throwing things at each other and then MY child got in trouble for it, not the other children until I said something. Outside time is apparently when these incidents happened most often and that is when I noticed the least amount of supervision and their reasoning for less supervision was because "kids need to play independently". I witnessed a teacher snapping/raising their voice at a child for doing something wrong. I had a teacher tell me how funny it was when she was purposely upsetting my child by mocking him repeatedly throughout the day. If you have a perfect and easy or very young child this is probably the place for you, but if you have a strong willed child who needs extra attention I highly recommend you look elsewhere because it is very apparent to me this place does not have the capability of supervising children properly, they just pawn them off onto the local ISD to handle. Places like this are why children slip through the cracks of school systems. read more

It has taken me a year to write this review. If you are looking for an all abilities daycare as this suggests, then i would not reccomend. 1 year ago. My son was kicked out the emmerson academy for behavior. FYI he was 4 years old at the time. Just to give some backround, he started there when he was 3 months old. When he was about 1.5-2 years old they started telling me things like oh he bit a kid or threw a toy, etc. Ok, I understand this is not acceptable behavior, but also understand he is 2 and learning. They started telling me he had no empathy and that I needed to put him in occupational therapy. For Empathy. Ok so I called the place they suggested, they didn't have any availability for at least 6 months. I told them I was on the wait list. Fast forward about 3 months and he had another incident at school where I recieved a very flustered phone call and asking why he isn't in this occupational therapy yet. I reiterated the conversation before about the wait list. But tried calling again. I started researching myself and was able to find another place to provide this. We started seeing the occupational therapist on a weekly basis. At the age of 3 there was another frantic phone call. As you may be aware this facility has lots of farm animals, including goats and pigs. One of the reasons I liked it so much as the kids get to help with them as they get older. The specific phone call I recieved was that my child threw a baby goat. I mean the director was very very frantic about this. I said what do you mean he threw a goat. And she said he threw a goat and they think it's leg was broken, oh and FYI this baby goat was literally a few hours old. What facility let's hours old animals in with toddlers. Come to find out after many conversations with the teachers, that my child had the goat and was giving it a hug, but maybe was squeezing it just a little to tight. (You know because as a toddler they are still learning appropriate touch. He didn't understand that his hug was too much) at that point a teacher yelled at him to put down the goat, which in turn startled him and he threw the poor baby goat out of fear and quick reaction to being yelled at, at the age of 3. This was not the initial conversation I hot from the director. I was literally told he picked up a goat and threw it, which was not the case. I started to realize that there may be some issues here and I asked to see the video of the incident. (FYI, they do have video cameras all over that capture everything) she wouldn't show me the video. They did reccomend that I see a neurologist. Which I went and called and got a 3 month wait list. But I had an appointment. And I just needed to wait. When I did get in to the neurologist he was very specific to tell me that at the age of 3 he was too young to give me a diagnosis or medicate him for any behavioral disorders. He really should be 5 years before any diagnosis. But gave me some tips to work on and some vitamins etc that may help. So now, he was seeing a occupational therapist as well as a neurologistfor behavioral disorders at the age of 3. I felt like I was letting the daycare down that I couldn't do more, and it became so overwhelming. Then he was switched to a new classroom. And everything changed. He had the most amazing teacher who understood him and did wonders for him. To be honest she really was the best thing for him. And for 6 months, I didn't get any calls or or negative marks for him at the daycare. Then she needed to take a leave of absence and the assistant teacher took over. Still didn't hear anything for a couple months. Then bam, I get an email saying I needed to come have a meeting with the director and teacher about my child's behavior. At this point I'm furious. Why haven't I heard anything for months then I need to have a meeting. So I come in and meet with them. And I sat there silent listening to what they had to say. As soon as they were finished, I asked them why if he has been so bad that I am just hearing about this and not getting any communication in the daily communications app "Brightwheel". And i said, why is it all of a sudden when his main teacher is on a leave of absence this came back up? I didnt have issues with her and she communication thouroughly. They said they would work on that and acknowledged their lack of communication. But at this same meeting the tell me they are moving him up to the next classroom. I was devistated, because he worked so well with the main teacher of the class he was in. read more

Our son has been at Emerson for about 4 months. This is his third day care and it is far and away the best one we have experienced. He is happy to be dropped off and happy when we pick him up. His teachers are conscientious and caring. The school has cute events too. read more

We recently moved here and after looking around at a few places that wouldn't take my kids I felt a bit hopeless. The last two places I contacted told me to look up emerson academy because they were wonderful and had smaller class size that would be better for my children. I figured if they were willing sending me to another center they must be that good. I went and spoke to the director Sarah that and I was over joyed at how easy she seemed to handle my kids needs. I have a 4 year old and 3 year old that are on the autism spectrum. My 3 year old is almost non verbal and my 4 year old knows words, but has a hard time expressing them. They both have triggers n things that bother them along with allergies, but no matter what I said she just nodded n assured me she could handle it. She has so much experience with kids like mine and trains her staff for all special needs. She gave me information for a lady that's a speech and occupational therapist so I could get new therapy set up here. She also told me the same lady trains her staff. They are training next week. Now to the most important part both of my kids are in love with the place. Neither one want to leave because they learn and have fun in such a great environment. There's a farm and garden there on the property too!! My son has been in school and other daycares and no matter how long he attended he would freak out every morning and I'd fell awful for leaving. I don't feel that way no because he takes my key to the door and willing walks away from me without so much as a bye!! Everyone there actually cares about the children!! read more

Update: I have changed my original rating as Emerson was unable to care for my Autistic son and I was given a 2 week notice to find a new place for him. They did allow his twin brother to stay at Emerson, but I was able to move both boys to another day care. Emerson Academy has been a Godsend for my family. I have twin toddlers, one of which is autistic, and they have both thrived at Emerson. The teachers are highly trained, patient, and embrace my son's differences. Everyone is friendly, the facility is clean, and my boys love it there. read more

My daughter has been enrolled here for a little over a year now, and has been in two different classrooms. We've tried a couple of different schools before, but she is extremely sensitive and is afraid of other children hurting her. While she would get through the day at other schools she never wanted to go back, and when I'd pick her up she'd often be sitting in the corner quietly, with legs and arms tucked close to her body - a defensive position. She hasn't received an official diagnosis, but we strongly suspect that she has Sensory Processing Disorder. Emerson Academy takes children of all abilities, which means that they offer specialized training to their teachers. This training has meant all of the difference in the world to us. In previous schools the teachers would loudly and enthusiastically greet my daughter each morning, no matter how many times they saw her shrink back and cover her ears. The teachers at Emerson actually pay attention and respond appropriately. They can recognize the signs of a child being overwhelmed or scared, so they just smile warmly and welcome her with a quiet voice. This probably isn't a big deal for most parents, but for us it is HUGE and a sign that they'll really understand how to work with her. I am thrilled to say that my daughter loves going to school here now. She has absolutely blossomed under their care! She talks enthusiastically about how much she loves her teachers (and even gives them kisses and holds their hands), but even better - they have pushed her just enough to encourage her to really socialize with her peers. They have done an outstanding job of encouraging her to try new things without pushing her too far outside of her comfort zone. I was terrified that all of the progress we'd made would be lost when she moved into a new classroom. My daughter LOVED her old teachers, especially Miss Laken. I'm thrilled to say that the way they handled the transition really made it seamless. They have the different classrooms overlap while playing outside (and they do a LOT of outside play) so that the kids have a chance to get to know kids and teachers in other classes. The week of transition the children would gradually increase the amount of time they spent in the other class over the course of the week. This type of gradual transition is just what my daughter needed. It also means that she still gets the opportunity to see her old, beloved teachers each day. I've referred several friends here now, and they have been just as satisfied as we are. I cannot express how grateful I am to have found Emerson Academy and these outstanding teachers. read more

5 years ago I made the mistake of enrolling my child here thinking they were understanding of children with differences. It turned out to be a nightmare that my child still remembers and asks me "why did you take me to that awful place?". Please research any establishment that you'd entrust to care for your child when you aren't there and trust your gut...I wish I had. Contact Texas Department of Family and Protective Services directly and request a FULL history of reports/inspections of this establishment and any that you consider. I am shocked at the negative reviews. We could not possibly be happier with Emerson. We moved our son here after it became obvious our prior daycare was fine for infants but not toddlers. Emerson has perfected parent communication. I hear about everything and am so grateful! Even other teachers and the directors let me know about my son's day. Our son changed classes fairly soon after joining Emerson, and the transition was seamless, something we weren't prepared for. He loves the farm animals and great playgrounds. Our teachers held our hands through potty-training and were so incredibly helpful. The classes are well-structured and he is learning so much. We pay a bit more than we did at our first daycare, but the health and happiness of my child is just so worth it. My advice is to ignore the negative reviews here. We feel very lucky to have found Emerson. read more

Emerson Academy is locally owned and operated, which is important to us. They encourage play, and the kids go outside several times a day. They practice conscious discipline (google it!), which has been helpful for our family to learn and practice as well. They have goats and pigs that the kids can feed from time to time, and a garden too. What most struck me on my first visit was how bright and clean it was (so many preschools smell either like diapers or heavy room fresheners!). If you ever have a concern, the directors are happy to meet with you and answer any questions. I also love that they are open to children with all abilities, as I believe having friends with challenges my child may not have will instill compassion and understanding in him. read more

I have had my two children enrolled at Emerson over the last 5 years and I have only had positive experiences. My oldest, who is now in 2nd grade, started there at 2 1/2 and continued on until Kindergarten. My youngest started there at 1 and he has been there for almost 2 years now. Both of my children loved/love it there. It is a school for all abilities and I enjoy that my kids are able to interact with children that are both the same as them as well as children that are very different from them. It has taught them compassion and empathy that they would not have learned at an average care center. I trust the staff fully and know that they are keeping my most precious gifts happy, safe, and educated while I am at work! read more

Emerson has been highly involved in my daughters development over the past years. I can't say enough about the care and attention they provide. They really do care about what's best for my child, and have even attended offsite ARD meetings at my daughters school to advocate for her and her ongoing care and needs outside of Emerson's program. My son was enrolled briefly in their "special" class for 4 years old. Special all right: I witnessed an incident of a young boy breaking a huge toy on a teacher's head, this poor teacher had to be very hurt. My son was standing next to me, we were both frozen by that scene, it was too much for me and I decided he was done with their special class. We tried to have him enrolled in their regular 4 years old class. Terrible communication from the managers, they told us they were going to have a spot reserved for our son and they took our money but instead they had removed him from their waiting list. read more

Our son has attended Emerson for about 1.5yrs, and our daughter is starting here this summer. We have had such a positive experience with the directors and teachers, despite some very challenging situations with our kiddo. Every teacher we have come in contact with has been supportive and willing to implement any reasonable accommodation he needs, which was certainly not the case in other childcare facilities. I love that the school not only provides the preschool/pre-k education we expect, but the kids also get to bake, garden, interact with lots of animals, and other cool "bonuses." This is the fourth school we tried over the years to find a good fit for our son, and he's so happy here we don't want him to leave when he starts kinder in the fall! read more

We absolutely love Emerson Academy. My son was enrolled at another school before Emerson and would cry every time we dropped him off. I thought it was just because it was his first time away from us, but after it kept going on I listened to my intuition and took him out. I was looking for a school that would be nurturing, and would help my son transition more comfortably - and Emerson was that school for us. My son took to the school right away and stopped crying during drop offs! The teachers are very welcoming and hands-on and provide a creative, open environment for the kids to learn and play in. The directors, Sarah and Jennifer, are super interactive with all the kids as well and take time to talk to each parent. My son has blossomed since he has been here, and we couldn't be more thankful! read more

This place is amazing. I literally don't understand where any negative reviews come from. My boys LOVE going here, we LOVE the teachers, the entire staff is amazing, and most importantly, consistent. I love that Emerson is locally owned. Sarah, the owner, is very involved and knows every child and parent by name. I truly feel as though she cares about my children. Stacy and Jennifer are equally amazing - they always go out of their way to ask me how my day went and tell me little things about how my kids' day went that I might not otherwise know about. They always answer my incessant 'checking in' calls with a smile and thorough report on both my kids. And the teachers really, really care about the children. I toured *a lot* of daycares and I can tell you that the teachers here are truly a step above the rest. They've been there for years and that says a lot about how well Emerson treats it's employee's. I'm so beyond thankful I found Emerson. It is a little more expensive than other daycares in the area but it's well worth it - you really do get what you pay for.
