I usually don't write reviews, but the cost to replace a battery was absolutely ridiculous HIGH !!!!! One watch was a cheap everyday watch and they charged $18. The other was a gold watch and they charged $36.00 !!!! just to replace the battery. Of course, this was totally MY choice to stay and have the batteries changed, as I was desperately needing my watches. So, the blame is on me. A LONG overdue review! I've brought several pieces to J West over the past year or so and have been absolutely blown away every time. The most notable piece was an antique signet ring given to my husband by his grandfather. The gold had begun to wear down and I was worried that the hand engraving on the outside and inside would be lost forever- enter J West. I'd been going to engravers all over Austin looking for someone who would re-do the hand engraving, knowing that it's a very, VERY delicate and tedious process, and was referred to J West by an engraver who had recently moved away. The results are INCREDIBLE, and the engraving on the outside was redone perfectly, the face of the ring retextured, and most importantly, the message on the inside was saved. I wish I had a before picture, but it was nearly gone. My husband is thrilled with the results and his favorite family heirloom is ready for another 100+ years of wear. I've had several other pieces cared for here- pendants polished, appraisals, rings resized, and I've been happy with the results every time, but the genuine care they showed this ring in wanting to do it RIGHT is what makes me a loyal customer. For example, he restored my wedding ring, and a very intricate and valuable bracelet from the 1970s including diamond and gem stone rings that needed reinforcing. i had my custom engagement/wedding ring put together here on the recommendation of my parents, who have had several custom pieces of made here. almost 9 years ago, after i was convinced to see SATC2, i happened upon the engagement ring of my dreams. big gave carrie an insane 5 carat black diamond ring- a 'real' $10,000 patricia fields piece. judge me, idc. i'm not even a satc fan~ just a fan of black diamonds/edgy stuff lol. after a few years of pinning, blue nile-ing, my dream ring i realized black moissanite was A) a thing and B) *insanely* cheap, i had a custom setting made on etsy. i brought my stone and the ring/setting here. i can't recall exactly how much it cost but it seemed reasonable- i believe ~$200? considering the many accent stones i found the price to be reasonable. unfortunately i hadn't noticed that it was a bit too big something i didn't really pay attention to before having the stone set so i had to have it sized down, costing me another $150 or so. i think all in all i paid around $350 to have it set and resized. i am excessively clumsy. like, clinically. i have dropped my ring on tile and concrete roughly a million times, smacked the back of my hand/the basket (part that holds up the stone) against wood, metal, glass... god knows what else... strings have been caught and pulled on the prongs... no warping. no bending, no stones coming loose. i worked in jewelery for several years and one of the easiest ways to tell if you have a loose stone is holding it up to your ear and lightly tapping the circle part of the ring. every time i jostle (? lol) my ring i obsessively check to make sure it's okay. and every time, it is! i kinda want to give 4 stars because it was expensive, and i was not made aware of any type of warranty (so i don't know what the cost repairs would be in the future or what is or is not covered). based on my clumsiness and the sturdiness of the piece though, i have to give 5 stars. check them out but maybe shop around. read more

My husband bought me a beautiful vintage opal ring for my engagement ring, and after only a day of wearing it the opal broke in half. I was devastated! My mom had used J West to recreate her wedding ring and told me to check them out! I was so happy. My jeweler quoted me a price and ordered a few opals (real and fake) for me to take a look at. Instead of ordering just one she ordered 4 so that I would have a choice! The right one immediately screamed at me, but it was a little too small to fit in my ring. She assured me it wasn't a problem and that they could redo my prongs to make it work. I was nervous at first, but once I got the ring back I fell in love! The ring is even better than when my husband bought it. I ended up having them resize the ring, tighten all the prongs, and resize another vintage ring of mine. I bought a Groupon and thought I would check it out. I wanted a new ring. They were very patience with my indecision about what I wanted. They ordered the ring. It came in quickly and I thought I wanted it then changed my mind that day. They totally understood and helped me make my decision to repair an old ring. They repaired my old ring at a fair price and only in a few days it was ready for pick up. They are quick, friendly, knowledgeable and have fair prices. On site service! I think I found my new jeweler. They have a year warranty on the repair I got. I just got my repaired ring back last week that is the only reason I didn't give 5 stars. I first noticed J.West after shopping at Sprouts. I walked in to ask about my bent platinum wedding band. The gentleman explained platinum is a soft metal, and unbent it right then. He cleaned it too for free and told me about their refurbishing service. A week before my 7th anniversary I took my wedding rings in for refurbishing. Kelli showed me my diamond under the microscope, and suggested soldering the softer platinum engagement ring to the stronger white gold wedding band for support.
