I was in the area this morning and wanted some good breakfast, I perused Yelp and came across Emil's Bake House and after reading the reviews I headed straight over. All the reviews were true, there was a line, and it was worth the wait! There is no inside seating but they do have tables and chairs with umbrellas outside. Upon entering I was awed by the shelves filled with goodies. The shop is small but efficient where you walk down one aisle and then turn to walk up the other aisle effectively going past every option so when you get to the front to pay you know what you want. A kind gentleman assisted me and told me about the ham and cheese with egg croissant which I gladly agreed sounded good and he got that going for me. I also ordered a few treats including bread pudding, apricot Swiss tart, and a jalapeño cheese bread. I also picked up some other prepackaged items that looked good. When my sandwich was ready I headed out and decided to gobble down the sandwich before driving back to my city. My sandwich was so delicious, fresh, hot, flaky, and savory! It was amazing with every bite. The cheese was perfectly melty with cheese pulls and all! I am rarely in the Calabassas area but you can bet I'll be back next time to try some of their quiches and other treats! read more

Walked in around 11:30 am. Out of Eclair. So sad. I wanted the Eclair. Anyway, I get a tiramisu, a some kind of chocolate cake and carrot cake. Then a French bread and 2 jalapeno pretzel . Love the jalapeño pretzels so delicious. French bread is exactly how it should be. Opened up the box for cake. NO CARROT CAKE. Whats going on? Missing my carrots cake. This was my first time eating at Emil's Bake House. It's been around for 7 years .. how have I missed it??? My friend suggested we try it out, and I'm SO GLAD SHE TO DID!! I had a blueberry smoothie with peanut butter and oatmeal in it and a WONDERFUL fresh soft pretzel stick!! This was more than I could eat! So, I had some left for a snack later. This was our first stop on the way to Solvang on a family trip! We wanted a small bite to eat for breakfast and came across this place. FOOD: The food was good! We ordered the California Quiche, which came with a small salad and my sister said it was very good. My mom and I got the Classic French Toastie, which is French bread with butter and apricot marmalade. That was soooo delicious! We got my dad an Almond croissant which he enjoyed. Been going here for a while and love the pastries. But they haven't been so fresh lately. Brought my kids in today and upon paying there were lots of cookies that read "fuck ice" and "fuck Trump". My kids can read. Having curse words at the register is just tacky. Regardless of your political views, which do not need to be inserted when you get a cup of coffee and a croissant, can we at least leave the curse words out? I travel often for work, and I always make it a point to stop by Emil's Bakehouse to pick up boxes of their baked goods to share with the hospitals and nurse staff I work with everyone loves them! The crust on the fruit tartlet was totally soft and soggy it totally collapsed, when I picked it up to take a bite. Definitely not made recently. It should have been nice and crisp. The fruit did look fresh, but they were pretty tart. The almond croissant was dry and hard. The princess cake was actually pretty good. The apple almond tart thing was OK at best. Super thin sliced apples on top. They were almost dried out. Lastly I got a small walnut tart and the pastry again was so soggy and sooo thick. It was like eating paste. There was so much crust it overwhelmed what little filling that was in it. The filling tasted good there just wasn't enough of it. I guess I won't be coming back. The macros were good but a little mild tasting, I prefer them that way, but my wife said that they didn't have much flavor. I'd give them an eight out of 10. . The apple turnover was pretty nice, it was very flaky and the bread had a nice buttery taste to it. The filling was a tad overwhelming, but either way I'd give it to eight out of 10. Two very different areas of L.A., but we're honestly happy to have it closer now that we've moved to this side of town near the Valley/Ventura area. Let's get straight to it: the prices are outrageous. This is definitely not an everyday spot for us -- more of a once-in-a-while treat. The pastries are good, and the honey bun in particular is incredible. I haven't had anything quite like it in L.A. or anywhere else in the U.S., honestly. It's next level. That said, the prices make it hard to come often. A slice of quiche is around $10, which just feels excessive no matter how good it is.
