It's probably not a good idea to pair the overwhelming desire to go for a donut with a less-than-stellar medical appointment. I should probably figure out how to break that chain in my brain. Today's adventure was a busted MRI appointment. Later, after a relaxing dinner with Dear Hubby, I asked him where the best donuts were to be found between the restaurant and home. He immediately suggested Foster's Donuts, so we made the small detour. A very nice lady took care of us. Despite it being almost 7:00 p.m., when they close at 9:00, there were still full cases of yummy treats. I'm enjoying a maple glazed traditional donut as I write this review. They've been open for 35 years and offer basically everything a classic donut shop would have. My husband was so excited to see and try an unglazed chocolate old fashioned for the first time. This has nothing to do with the taste in the donuts!!! It's customer service that is terrible! I'm not sure if it's because she can't speak English well or she's just rude! I've dropped by in the evening and during the day and she's the same harsh way. I asked her a question and responded then my daughter asked a more specific question and she says " I just told your mom"! It was not the same question!!! I was in charge of getting donuts but failed to remember to get cash the days before - so of course I was in Westlake and walked into a donut shop with a sign that said cash only- ugh oh no I have only 15 mins and no atms around- quickly Yelp help me- and surely I was not disappointed - fosters a few minutes away from where I was. Walked into a few people ahead of me- and they were so efficient I was able to get my dozen and fancy variety in five minutes! I loved how they were greeting their customers by first name and remembering their orders. When I brought the sugar pillows to work it was a huge hit! One recent weekend day, my BF and I decided to find the best donut shop around. To make it fair, we ordered the same donuts from each shop we visited. Hands down, the absolute best maple bar in Conejo Valley is to be found at Foster's Donuts on TO. Fragrant and perfectly sweet, maple icing to die for, beautiful raised and with a gorgeous dough...highly recommend Foster's! The tiger tail was excellent too! My favorite pastry is the apple fritter. Unfortunately, what I got was a fritter. But I would have to send out a search party for the apple flavor or moisture. It was quite dry and lacked any apple or even cinnamon flavor. It was a sugary hunk of fried dough. I've certainly had worse fritters. But I've also had much better. On the flip side of the coin, my coworker gave me a piece of his bacon maple bar since I had never tried one. It was moist, full of maple & bacon flavor. Quite tasty! I've lived in the T.O. area for a number of years and for some reason hadn't really given Foster's a try. I finally committed to a dozen donuts in a wide variety of flavors. Here are my findings: -The chocolate raised are actually glazed donuts with chocolate icing. These are delicious! -Maple Cruller was good but I've had better (locally). Still a solid choice. -Custard Filled is another solid selection. The custard filling ratio is appropriate for the size of the donut. -Chocolate old fashioned is moist yet a bit crisp as well. The donut is also glazed which is an added bonus. By far my favorite donut in the greater Conejo Valley! Even though the parking lot is a tiny hot mess, Foster's Donuts is worth all the hassle. On the weekends they keep all of the donuts in stock so anytime of the day, make your way over to Fosters! read more

Wow these donuts are legit. I don't know if this poor guy works the 4am -10pm everyday but that's their hours. We came at 5 o'clock one evening and couldn't believe how fresh the donuts still felt. This is an update as I used to love this shop and gave them a 5 review previously. Unfortunately, the last couple of times I visited it, the service was terrible, I asked nicely to be provided a small box as previously I have got my donuts in small paper bags and they were squeezed in which made them to get all the glazed all over and make them an uncomfortable to eat...I got around 6 and a muffin and a few puffs and I was told that if I wanted a box I needed to pay for it...when the male owner is there he make sure to take care of the customers with a smile but his wife is rude and pushy...definetely won't patronize this place anymore. So, I have only ever left one review in my life and that was extremely positive. This is not the case. I am absolutely appalled at the disrespectful service provided and rude, aggressive behavior of one of the women behind the counter. **I went in to get donuts for my mom for Mother's Day and elderly neighbor who is like a grandmother to me in a separate baggie who isn't doing well. I have been going to Fosters Donuts since I was a child with my dad. I haven't been in a while, tend to go once / maybe twice a year. I was waiting in line allowing the gentleman in front of me to be helped until it was my turn. At this point we were the only two in the shop. One of the woman addresses me to help me from across and behind another woman who is helping the man in front of me and asks me what I want. I ask if I can please get a dozen and while the man in front of me is moving around choosing his donuts, I step forward, point and ask for two glazed twists to start with, she ignores me (or maybe doesn't hear me because they were not in my ending order?) and then proceeds to aggressively ask me while I'm pointing and asking for the glazed, "do you want me to just choose for you?!" super abruptly when I was pointing and communicating the donuts I wanted. I say, "no, that's ok - I can pick them out" and continue pointing to donuts asking for them while she continues to be aggressive and give me attitude and not count, which is fine since I had a general idea but, usually they let you know. Eventually I ask, "how many do I have left?" and she says (with shocking attitude), "I don't know, I'll count now" and says, "Eleven" so I say, "okay great can I please get two more glazed..." and before I even finish she aggressively and rudely says, "no, no extra, no extra for free, we are not giving you extra" and I was so shocked by this. I follow up with what I was beginning to ask before I was so rudely interrupted, "I'm paying for them. Can I please get two glazed in a separate bag? I'm paying for them" and she gave me a dirty look and so I repeated myself, "can I please get two additional glazed in a bag?" To which she finally said, "fine I'll do it after" - well after we finished and we got to the counter I noticed she didn't put the glazed twists in the box either so I also bought two extra of those in a separate bag as well. I've never been treated so disrespectfully by someone in customer service or been given such attitude publicly. I tend to be a people pleaser and, this is the first time in my life I didn't leave a tip and I leave everyone a tip, I feel guilty not leaving a tip even if someone isn't directly helping me or is even kinda rude, it happens, it's fine - I've worked in customer service so I get it, but this was aggressive and was unnecessarily hateful. There is no excuse to treat someone disrespectfully. Even if you're not in customer service. read more
