We have our own family stone, and would like to use the stone for the engagement ring. We started with several stores in the city, and were either told that the stone needs to be sent to GIA first for 2 weeks to get certified (cost $200) , or the store is charging us extra $$ for appraisal service. We are not interested in certification, but would like to have appraisal to get it insured. The stone was in the save for 20+ years, so we would like to see what is the grade of stone before making it my life time engagement ring. Knowing that I want Tacor and since there are only a few Tacori re-sellers in the bay area, we decided to visit one by one. After studying Emkay on Yelp, we decided to drive from the city to San Carlose to visit Emkay. Compared to other Tacori resellers, Emkay is not as fancy, but Kavita was very nice introducing us the products. I exactly know what I wanted so it was very easy. After I told her about our family stone, she quickly inspected it for us, letting us know the general appraisal, and offered the service free of charge if I buy the Tacori ring from her. Originally, I was not planning to buy a wedding band from Tacori, since it was a bit out of the budget. She showed me a couple of choices, and told me how Tacori will offer life time warranty. Since the rings are just so pretty together, I was persuaded. Kavita was not pushy at all. She also showed me other wedding bands, which are much cheaper. In the end, after a 15 min walk , we decided to take Tacori band also. Now, after 1 month, looking back, it was the best decision EVER!!!! Everyday when I wear them, they look super pretty together. The ring is just so into details that I can't stop watching!! Anyways, after we made the order, Kavita took my stone ( which worth almost 4 times the cost of Tacori setting + band). I hear many stories that the store might change your stone secretly, given that my stone is not certified and has no numbers on it...... I was a bit concerned... but decided to trust her.. She mentioned her daughter is getting married in late May, so before late May, we will get my ring done since my wedding is in early June. There is only 4 weeks for her to get everything done. In the four weeks, I kept in touch with Kavita to make sure I could get the ring before my wedding. She kept her promise, getting the ring to be on the date she promised. Amazing! The ring is sooooooooooooo pretty!! My family stone fits perfectly, and it looks so gorgeous fitting together!!! My fiance and I were super happy. Kavita did such a great job! I was in search of a new jeweler in the San Carlos/Belmont area a few months ago, and due to good reviews on Yelp I found myself headed to Emkay. This is a family run business, and the owner, Kavita, is a pleasure to work with. She is very personable and gives good suggestions, without being pushy as some jewelers can be (or annoyed when you say you want to think it over before buying, or--my personal favorite--not pay much attention to you if you are not dressed head to toe in couture designer wear). Kavita is nothing but respectful and professional, easy to talk to, and she really listens to what it is you want. I initially came in with a stone that I wanted to have set, and from there Kavita helped me pick out a lovely diamond ring setting to put it in. Her jeweler did an excellent job with it. Since then, I have been back to have rhodium plating done, two watch batteries replaced, and two more stones set, one into another setting I purchased from her, and the other into my own that I brought with me. They have a nice selection of jewelry (including Tacori), prices for repairs are quite reasonable, and they do quality work. I just went to Emkay Diamonds to look at their Engagement Rings, they had very nice ones. But the reason I'm writing this is for their antique shop. I have been to Dianne's Old & New Estates in SF and heard good things about their antique rings, but I think in Emkay they had a lot better selection, and the prices where much much better! Their antique rings and jewelery are not for engagement I think, but you can always get them for anniversary or just for fun. They have some very beautiful and unique designs and it starts from very affordable. Also by antique I don't necessarily mean old design, some of them are very modern designs as well. I emailed her a set of questions prior to making an appointment and she was very quick at providing answers. Appraisal process: -Came in on a Saturday with 4 pieces of diamond jewelry. (One engagement ring, two diamond earrings, another diamond ring) -Kavita took a look at one of the earrings and recommended that I not get it appraised because the cost of appraisal and insurance would be greater then the cost of the earrings themselves. I appreciated this so much because it shows her honesty and professionalism. She's not out to just make another dollar. -she took pictures and walked my fiancé and I through some of the tests she was doing. -she took pictures and detailed notes of the jewelry and I didn't have to leave my jewelry overnight. I also definitely appreciated this as well. -the appraisal documents were emailed to me via PDF so we didn't have to return to the store or wait for snail mail. I brought my watch in to have the battery replaced. It was a waterproof watch. I had been swimming with this watch for 6 years without a problem. They replaced the battery but did not take care in sealing the case. Water got into my watch and now it is ruined. Kavita was very accomodating in finding a diamond and setting. She ended up transferring a diamond from New York for me that was within the specs I was looking for. The diamond came with the GIA paperwork and she priced it very competitively with my prices from the internet. After receiving the diamond I chose a Tacori setting... which was the real reason why I came to Emkay in the first place: they're one of the few authorized dealers of Tacori in the bay area.
