Various members of my family have been buying jewelry from Steiner's Jewelry since 1950. I personally have been buying from them since 1973 when they transformed a very old diamond ring in a platinum setting into a gorgeous more modern looking ring in a tiffany and gold setting. It was an exquisite ring I wore for years. After my divorce, they transformed that ring into a diamond necklace and designed a new ring, I could wear as a single. I usually do not write reviews, but this is the WORST PLACE TO BUY JEWELRY. Stay away unless you want to be ripped off. I bought a diamond by the yard necklace and upgraded it 4 times to a bigger one. The cost was $4000 and I have the paperwork that goes with it. I needed money to help pays bills and took it to an appraiser to see how much I could get it for with my receipts and the appraisal papers and they places I took them to said it was worth $42.00. I trusted MIKE the manager and I got ripped off big time. I also took it to Tiffanys Jewelers and said it was not worth what I paid for it at all. I wore it once due to the fact that where I live is like 110 degrees and it just would stick to my skin. NO Color at all in the diamonds. The only thing that was said is that the chain was 18k gold. Ok, so when I asked my husband for a divorce 5 years ago (to the day when I walked into Steiner's) he wasn't very happy. In fact, he told me to give him back the rings. What was he going to do with them, I asked. He said fine, good point, but I'm taking the diamond! so give me the ring! and I did... and he took my ring... went to the garage... got a pair of needle nose pliers and wrestled back his 1.75 carat diamond. Mind you, HE was the one cheating on ME with his co-worker... yah. anywho Here I was walking into Steiner's to get an appraisal on my gorgeous platinum wedding set minus the diamond. I was a little embarrassed to show them the mangled carcass of what used to be my engagement ring. There was a man who brought in his brother and nieces and nephews to choose a ring so he could propose... So cute, but I couldnt help but giggle aloud when I heard him tell the kids again and again to promise not to tell about the ring. LOL yah, right! So this sweet woman took me on a tour of everything they had that would fit the budget of my trade in. I tried things on... checked myself out in them. Zak & I decided that a sweet pair of gorgeous diamond drop earrings were JUST WHAT I NEEDED to walk away with. Happy Anniversary to my new beginning! Happy trails of diamonds on my ears and an extra $65 in cash bruning a hole in my wallet. I will most certainly return to Steiner's again. They were warm and friendly, patient and thorough, and they know their inventory when you are on a budget. There's a fireplace to cozy up to if you need to wait or you can lose yourself walking around and looking at their selection... A special bonus that I enjoyed seeing was the play room! Love this place. Local family owned business. They care and it shows! Fantastic selection, reasonable prices, great service with a smile. My husband came here to find an engagement ring, and Mike had exactly what he was looking for, and for less than we expected to pay. For the people who think this place is expensive - get a grip - compare the quality you find here to items of the same quality elsewhere and you'll see. We got a smoking deal on a unique estate piece that we then had customized a bit. Even after all that we got a gorgeous quality ring for less than we would have paid elsewhere. Both my mother and grandmother bought several pieces at Steiner's and had many items adjusted and maintained there. Me? I used to. However, when they moved around the corner to their snazzy new location, they lost all concept of customer service. My first time into the store post-move was to have a ring setting tightened. I walked in, stood at the counter, and waited..... and waited... and waited... Nothing. No acknowledgement from either of the two clerks attempting to make sales to the two other people in the store, and not even a feeble attempt to stop me as I walked out. My second time back, one of the clerks from the original location was working. She helped me immediately and graciously and I thought maybe the first visit was a fluke, but... My third and fourth times back, she wasn't there and I had the same experience as my first visit -- not even a nod in my direction as I waited and I ended up leaving. So, 25% of the time the service was good and 75% of the time the service was less than bad, it was non-existent! Sure, the new space is aesthetically preferable to the original, but consistently good customer service is much more important to me than a few frills. There are other reputable jewelers in the area that haven't forgotten how to treat people well. I would have given Steiner's zero stars, but since the clerk from the original location is still there, I'll give them one. read more

It's years after Steiners would not honor the price of a replacement bracelet he agreed upon, nor refund the $800 down payment placed. At first he wouldn't even give the cash deposit back. But I pleaded and he allowed that. He would not provide the replacement for the original bracelet (Bought there!) at the price he agreed upon. He said gold had gone up. But no agreement to change the price on paperwork was ever mentioned. It was several months between final pick-up as I had a battle with beast cancer. But this did not give him the right to bully me. Only one price was on the receipt with no terms for any changes or cancellation. Today, I miss the only piece of Jewelry my husband bought for me that I am missing. It was only $1800 total price which really indicated how greedy the Steiners male owner is. I just couldn't afford it then, I'd been sick. But this man had no compassion and couldn't even live-up to his own deal. I tried to leave amicably after her gave me the deposit, but I still lost out due to his greed and dishonesty. I was exhausted from all the phone and in-person arguing. A reputable Jewlers would never treat a customer like that. I recently bought something at Tiffany's Inc. Ha! It was a wonderful experience compared to this selfish peddler at Steins. Karma. I would probably have bought with you again, as I got my 5-year anniversary ring at Steiners. While browsing estate jewelry at Steiners I mentioned to Tami that I had some family stones that I wanted to have reset. I spotted a chain necklace at Steiners with small diamonds placed evenly around the length of the chain. Tami helped me decide what color gold I wanted and the length that would work for me. It took me just a day to decide to return to Steiners with the family diamonds to have them reset into a necklace. The length of my necklace can be adjusted with the addition of a very cleaver clasp arrangement which incorporated two small diamonds. I lost one of my diamonds from my wedding ring back in 1987. At the time I worked for a dentist in San Francisco, CA but I live in Belmont, CA so one of our patient's Mr. Rabin recommended Steiner's and to let Marsh know that he recommended me to him. The Rabin Brother's once owned Butterfield and Butterfield and the entire family were patient's of the dental office I worked in for several years. In 1987 I met with Marsh and picked out a new diamond for my ring and was very pleased with his service so just a few years back I brought my grandmother's ring in to have a sapphire placed instead of a diamond so that I can pass it on to my daughter. Mike repaired the bridge of the ring and placed a beautiful sapphire and I was very pleased. I know Marsh isn't there anymore or has passed on but I feel the service I received was wonderful and I trust them. Marsh was friends with the Rabin Brothers and I know they have passed on too but they were good people and God Bless and keep them always! We purchased our wedding rings here in 1991. We have since retired to Hawaii. I went into a local jeweler on the Island and was told our rings had become quite worn and torn over the years and the diamonds were at risk of falling out. She wanted us to give the rings to her for repair with a very large price tag to go with it. I called Steiners and spoke to Mike Droese ( the owner) and explained my situation. I sent the rings to him and he was beyond helpful! He evaluated them and determined that the damage stated by the other jeweler was quite exaggerated. He repaired what was called for and brought the rings back to "show room" new condition! He was fair in what he charged. Steiners Jewelry is honest and ethical, unlike so many other places.
