Open at 4:30am daily for decades, neither the interior nor outside suggesting luxury, guests are invited to load their tray with tongs from either the plastic cases or freshly made trays ready to restock supplies until evening. Traditional in its offerings, Concha and Guava Empanadas both residing adjacent tricolor Cookies and Pastel, Emmanuel's Donuts are light and fluffy while choices like Orejas and Besos are better than what one might expect in an area with little competition. Pan Dulce is excellent here. We were greeted at entrance by a nice lady. Mood was quiet with low music playing in background. Check out guy was very quiet. I kept trying to engage in a conversation by saying we came here because of their 4.5 reviews on yelp and other comments but just smiled and looked down. Paid and thanked him. read more

This place has the best, Mexican bread, hands-down in Bakersfield! I first went to the bakery in November on a recommendation. When I walked in the place, smelled delicious like fresh baked pan dulce. The smell took me back to my childhood when I used to visit the bakeries in Mexico. The selection of bread is a lot better than what you will find at the Mexican, grocery stores. I cannot speak for other Mexican bakeries, or Latino bakeries because I have not visited any. I chose the usual, such as the concha's and mantecadas. The stars of the bakery are the birotes. We got lucky and were able to snag some just fresh out of the oven! They had a hard pressed on the outside and soft and doughy inside. They were perfect with our hot chocolate and coffee. I understand they make cakes also. Looking forward to trying one. The parking for this place is tricky. If you get lucky you will find some on the actual parking lot. Otherwise you will have to park on the side street. read more

Emmanuel's Bakery and Taqueria is not close to me, but after trying a couple of their baked goods I can safely say that I will be back. I've always been a fan of Hispanic bakeries even though I'm more of an American donut kind of guy. This bakery is on the east side of town, and is worth the trip. They are not much to look like from the outside or inside, but do not let the looks fool you. They make good stuff. First item I tried was their Apple Empanada. It was tasty and fresh. Good amount of filling, and the price was more than fair. They were sold out of the empanada flavors that I usually crave so I cannot wait to the other flavors next time. Second item I tried was a wonderful surprise. When I pulled it from the case, I thought it was Cheesecake because that is what the sign said. Upon closer inspection and verifying from the employee, I was told that it was Corn Bread. I've never tried cornbread from a Hispanic bakery before so I thought about returning it, but I'm glad I changed my mind. That Cornbread was absolutely delicious! With their cornbread being so good, I need to try their other breads to see if they are even better. Yummy stuff. It was a cool 4 star experience for my first visit to Emmanuel's. Cashier was courteous and helpful. Parking was a bit difficult in front of the bakery, but I'll know better next time. read more

This is a sweet family owned bakery with even sweeter treats! Whenever I go, I get a dozen bulillos and I also like to try different types of pan dulce. I feel like there are always new options each time! Additionally, I'm always surprised at how affordable everything is for being so delicious and plentiful! 10/10 will definitely come again! Not only for the treats but to also support one of the few Hispanic family owned bakeries in Bakersfield. Brings back memories of the panaderia from my childhood that I would go to with my grandfather, and the brothers that work there when I go are always friendly and welcoming. read more

I decided to stop by and I'm glad I did. I have been in Bakersfield for 4 months and I've been here 3 times. I'm in love. I found bread here that I haven't had since I was a kid. So much to choose from. This simple white girl loves her some Mexican pastures. The flavors are so good and everything is so fresh. If only I'd known about these as a child. I was subjected to donuts all my life. Emmanuel's has been in business for about 4 or 5 years at the location I visited. Not my typical side of town to visit, but it is now. You can easily pass their corner location if you don't keep an eye out for it. Parking is a little tight, but you'll find a spot. Store opens at 4am so that's perfect for those needing to grab something early before work. Pricing is very reasonable too. I would highly suggest you give this place a try. Toss out the donuts, bring on the Cochitos, the Conchas, the Coyotes, the Empanadas, the Orejas, and the Elotes. I can only imagine the hard work that goes into making these as well as the other pastries. All so delicious. read more

I recently stopped at this bakery on a whim and I was pleasantly surprised. A lot of Mexican style bakeries on the east side have a problem with being heavy handed on the sugar or on certain spices and flavors, or they just use a generic base dough so everything tastes the same but not Emmanuels. The flavor on the bread at Emmanuels is well balanced and nothing is overpowering. All the ingredients they use blend really well and make for a very delicious pan dulce. It is my new go-to spot for Mexican sweet bread. read more
