    Donuts

Stopped in last minute hoping to find a bday cake, they didn't have anything that was reasonably affordable. I don't mind paying but $25 for a chocolate cake the size of a large brownie. (I've ordered them before and they're good but no way not that good), So I ordered 4 donuts. I know they're good it's Smith's. My issue is this location make me feels ba-hum bug!! It seems the lady was annoyed with my presence and questions. Very unenthusiastic about anything! Also seems to be just a preorder and pick up location not much product in the cases.

Smith's Bakery - YUM Smith's always satisfies my sweet tooth, either with a yummy donut or cookie (thumb prints are my favorite). For my birthday my friend got me a giant pink donut saying "Happy Birthday Jillian". It was so so good! If you aren't a sweets person, they also offer homemade croissants and bagels. They have tons of great locations throughout Bakersfield, but this one is closest to me. Smith's is a must when I am in Bakersfield!

Smith's Bakery is by far the best there is. They have been around for as many years as I can remember. They have multiple locations throughout town now and I've been to all of them. They take pride in the quality of their baked goods. Service is always great at each location. When I was a kid, Mom ALWAYS got me their Pink Champagne cake for my birthday cake. It remains my favorite cake to this day. It is so delicious and each year since I moved away, I've missed that cake. It's not enough of a reason to drive to or visit Bakersfield, but, since my parents still live here, I can get my fix every now and then. Smith's also has a variety of cookies. Their smiley face sugar cookies and the thumb print cookies are to die for. One cannot go to Smith's without getting some. In fact, I may get some to take to my co-workers. Keep baking! I'll see you on my next visit!

What can I say, I'm a Bakersfield homegrown girl. :-) Cookies, thumbprints, and champagne cake are part of our families special moments!

Not a big fan of this bakery taste like cheap ingredients. You can get better quality at Vons.

I really enjoy this bakery. I usually go to the one at Brookside Deli. Great for diet cheat days!

This is my favorite bakery. Whenever I'm in town, I usually buy the yellow smiley face cookies. I wish they had a Smith's in LA..

The second was almond butter and banana with cocoa nibs, honey, and cinnamon. The third was Nutella and hazelnuts topped with strawberries and coconut flakes. They were all delicious, but my favorite was definitely the Nutella and hazelnut toast. Everything tasted fresh and flavorful, and the variety made it fun to share and try different combinations. Service was quick and friendly. The ambiance is a cute cafe vibe. You place order at the counter and someone brings your order to your table. Smitten is definitely a must-visit spot when downtown for breakfast.

Their hype was definitely due to the 'aesthetic'. Nothing is really outstanding to me. The drinks are such a let down, the coffee is borderline yuck.. do not recommend. Everything is quite unmemorable. Service is whatever, sometimes mid, sometimes bad. Nothing outstanding. Ambiance.... well... this one has been replicated one too many times. The food is heavily missing flavor, the hummus is disgusting. I can't believe they call that thing hummus, it's an insult to actual dish.. it's almost like it was trying to imitate the real dish, but failed terribly in even attempting to. Their pizza tasted like play-doh and looked very pale. Smitten is at least consistent with one thing, which is their staple: no flavor. One of the breaking points for me was being served food that had someone's HAIR. The restaurant is very expensive for the poor experience they have to offer. I stopped recommending them a long time ago.

It's a large and open shop with a variety of seating options; cafe tables, old couches, random chairs. They also have a very long patio with tons of outdoor seating. There is an eclectic and vaguely punk sort of vibe. It's clean and welcoming, but not overly polished. It's comfortable and inviting. Feels like an old-school coffeeshop from the 90s. The people who work there are also super friendly and happy to answer questions. There coffee is great and I love both the hot and cold options. The most recent time I was there I had an iced coffee and a pretty decent breakfast sandwich with eggs, cheese, and bacon on an everything bagel. It was tasty and came out quickly. The bacon was chopped up into the egg, which I liked. They also recently started selling these incredible cinnamon rolls from a local bakery called Just Cinnamon. It happened to be a Friday the last time I was there so I brought a caramel pecan roll home to share with my wife. We loved it! Dagny's has great coffee, good breakfast options, and an awesome space for hanging out. I really enjoy sitting there to read or work remotely.
