Dr. Hess and the rest of the staff are just awesome. Thank you oh so much for tending to Lucy's eye injury. Plenty of worrying for over a week after the start of the antibiotics and I was overly concerned that Lucy would lose her eye. We have been taking our cats and kittens to see Dr Karen since 2005 and the problems have that we have encountered with them have always been taken care of in a positive manner with her and her staff on the medical team. We've been going to Dr. Karen's Critter Care for 14 years, although we haven't needed help since we first got our beloved rescue cat, Gracie Belle. Dog put on antibiotic for sores on his body from biting self due to allergic reaction. Dr. Hess asked me to call after 5 days to let her know how he's doing on antibiotic. Wasn't able to get dog to take antibiotic for five days, so didn't call. Dog put on quarter to half Benadryl 25mg tablet to control allergic reaction itching. Apoquel only medication that helped stop itching. Dr. Hess determined he doesn't need glands expressed. Vet also determined our dog developing renal insufficiency, so we're starting him on Royal Canin Renal dog food. Keeping fingers crossed he'll like Royal Canin Renal dog food. Called Chewy to place order for Royal Canin Renal dog food. Chewy employee told me about another Renal dog food called Just Food For Dogs, which doesn't contain meat by-products. Just Food For Dogs contains Lamb, Chicken, other great ingredients. Separate Rx required for this brand. Hoping Dr. Hess writes Rx for Just Food For Dogs Renal dog food after she researches it. read more

We adopted a 3 month old pitbull mix, so we had to find a vet to get our shots. We found Dr. Karen and she was close to our home and her entire staff was so sweet and tender with our timid puppy. They answered all my questions and were very helpful. It was also very affordable. If you're looking for a vet I recommend Dr. Karen and her staff! I live in DC and had to find an emergency vet in Allentown during quarantine. Everybody knows how hectic that can be. I went to Dr. Hess because of her reviews here and I have to say, I realllllly liked her for my kitty. I've had my kitty for 16 years, and I could've sworn she had a uti from her symptoms. I brought her in, explained what was going on. Dr. Hess took one look at her and confidently told me she did not have a uti--her glands needed to be expressed. My cat has never needed that! I had no idea that was even a "thing" for cats. Doc expressed my cat, sent me home, and my kitty went back to normal in a day. I'm grateful for her and give a lot to respect for doctors who confidently know their craft. She was also friendly about it too! read more

Dr. Hess is a wonderful veterinarian - she really cares about the pets. She is not afraid to tell you what reality is, however, I know a lot of people like to live in denial. For example, if your cat is overweight, she will tell you your cat needs to lose a few pounds and not tell you that your cat is healthy - like other vets will do. Her practice, Dr. Karen's Critter Care, has very affordable prices and doesn't charge astronomical amounts - like some other vet offices do - and she won't do unnecessary vaccinations or procedures. Her schedule does get packed quickly because so many people want her to see their pets - I know that she brought in another vet - Dr. Miller. The vet techs there are really nice and caring but the desk receptionists are hit or miss - there are some that I would not want to deal with either because of their demeanor or their knowledge. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that she actually returns your phone calls, even if she has to call after the office closes - again, not like other vet offices. read more

Dr. Karen Hess is he best vet around! I have had emergency surgery for my senior chihuahua that was very scary... She squeezed in for an appointment last minute because I just felt something was very wrong and thank god because Dr. Karen moved her schedule around and had her in surgery in less than a half hour. She and her staff have performed both major and minor surgeries with my other dogs and my cat. She has addressed different concerns and has always been very honest! She absolutely will do what is best for your pet! I wouldn't take my pets anywhere else. Dr. Karen and Dr. Miller are both excellent and the staff is wonderful. AND on top of the best care that you could ask for your fur babies, her prices are very reasonable and affordable. I have been to several vets both in PA and NJ and she by far has the best prices! If you need grooming, Dr. Karen's Critter Spa is excellent. I have a dog with very bad anxiety and the groomers were wonderful with her and she looked beautiful with I picked her up. Great Vet, my dog Chase was to other vets nobody could figure out what was wrong with him each vet kept saying his problem was allergies, Dr. Karen Hess knew right away he had pneumonia which he must have had since I got him.He suffered for 5 months of his life till Dr. Karen figured it out and cured him!! The only reason I'm not rating this Vet office with 1 star, is because Dr. Hess herself is wonderful. Great vet, cares for your pet and shares information well. Her office staff however are the most unprofessional front office staff I've ever encountered in any medical office; veterinary or otherwise. This evening while trying to inquire about a mistake on my bill, a verbal fight broke out between the receptionists resulting in one young lady quitting her job and slamming out the back door. Quite a performance for a full waiting room, all of whom heard the entire event. To top it off, the woman who appeared to be in charge was not in control, added her own immature 2 cents to the verbal nonsense and treated me like I was more of an annoyance than a valued client. She reluctantly adjusted my bill and wished me luck that she did it right, adding, "I don't really know how to do this." If she was the Office Manager, she was a poor one indeed. Sorry Dr. Hess, I won't be returning and I hope you get control of your staff before they ruin your business. read more

Dr. Hess and Dr. Miller are really wonderful. They both care very much for you and your pets. Both will tell you like it is, wether you want to hear it or not. I rescued my wonderful cat and he had allot of issues and quite frankly, I know it would have cost allot more elsewhere. Max needed surgery further than what they could do, and guided us to their in house surgeon, who done a splendid job with him. He is healthier than ever, a very happy boy! She has a great groomer on board too, who is wonderful with my sheltie as well, and does a beautiful job with her everytime! Prices are very reasonable and everyone is very helpful. read more
