Good people. good crabs. Cold beer. What else do I need to say. Try the peanut butter pie!

My adult son and I had our first steamed crabs outing in a couple of years, and chose Emmert's for its midway-between-us location and fine online reviews. We were not disappointed at all, plus we were happily surprised over the unexpected value our experience represented. The crabs were more than fairly priced ($110 per dozen of heavy-for-their-size "large" crabs, served hot and fresh with very little water. These crabs certainty were local, steamed (not boiled) and fresh. The seasoning seemed perhaps a proprietary J&O blend and was adequately salty and spicy but (happily) less overpowering than Old Bay might be. The remainder of the menu, which we perused but avoided this time, would have been at home at a Chesapeake waterfront venue - all of the predictable shellfish-based traditional choices were here. Service was more than adequate; the super-cheerful Kelsey took good care of us and we took care of her (nearly a 25% tip). All told, including a draft beer for each of us and a shared slice of Smith Island Cake (a Maryland delicacy pretty hard to find), we dropped $157. Money well spent. After hearing great things about this place for years, my better half and I finally decided to check it out on another stop celebrating my birthday month, and it turned out to be an excellent choice! From the moment we walked in to being seated and enjoying my delicious lemon drop martini, everything flowed perfectly. Our server, Vicky (sp), was friendly and helpful, especially when recommending an appetizer. We went with the crab balls and ordered a half dozen large crabs. The crab balls were generously sized and packed with crab, though they tasted a bit salty to me. My husband, on the other hand, thought they were just right, even adding more salt! The crabs came out quickly and were delicious! fresh, heavy, and full of flavor. The atmosphere was warm, clean, and welcoming, which was much appreciated given how cold and windy it was outside. While we didn't use the side porch, I've heard it's heated, which sounds perfect for future visits. The menu is expansive with plenty of tempting options, including some Louisiana (my home state) favorites like gator bites and frog legs, so we'll definitely be back. I came to this crab house last weekend, and I was amazed by their steamed crabs. The crab meat is huge and the presentation of the crabs is great! Unlike most of the crab houses I have been to, the old bay on the shell looks so uniform and clean. I must say this again, the crab meat is HUGE, and we only order large size.. Their fried calamari tastes great too! My brother in law loves their crab soup cuz it aint too salty. Overall, I give this restaurant 5 out of 5 based on the food. Hoping for some improvement. The good and mediocre. Ordered for pickup two of the two crab cake platter meals, total cost was $129 + $20 tip. Order was for one with curly fries the other with onion rings and each with coleslaw. Crabcakes were of good size at 8 oz each and the coleslaw was just like mom's. The onion rings never made it to one of the platters, just ended up with shoestring fries on that one and not very many. I could see the foil lining the container through the pile of fries. Curly fries were OK, seemed like more were there than the shoestring. Also never received the ordered tartar sauce for either meal. The crabcakes had good flavor and very minimal shells present (9 out of 10 on that) but didn't seem to have been cooked long enough. I realized this when the next day I decided to eat the second crab cake and cooked in my convection oven for an additional 30 minutes and THEN it was very delectable. Would like in the future for the crab cakes to maybe have the option to fry or broil and cooked a bit longer, receive my order correctly and maybe, when someone is spending $67 on average per meal (minus tip) to not be skimpy with the sides. I mean really, how much do fries cost? A one pound frozen bag in the store is $8 at most, I got maybe 4 ounces. I know in the same general area there is a burger store whose name that starts with a number guys, hint hint, that gives double your order of fries when you pay $5.99. Next time I will be more cautious and maybe not go all out thinking it was going to be a smash hit. The restaurant is really close to me so I hope it will be a better experience next time. For those with disabilities, there is accessible parking in the lot but the restaurant itself is up about 6 steps and through a 90 degree alcove with two doors and very liitle room to navigate. There is no apparant accessibility for those who use walkers or wheelchairs. The ramp you see here is for access to the kitchen and through the window, it doesn't seem like a safe passage. I am very sure however that if asked, the staff would bring your food out if necessary. They seem very nice and willing to accomodate. read more

We wanted to love this place but there were just too many problems. Things started off great. It was busy but we were seated right away. We ordered soup and an appetizer but took a few minutes to decide on entrees. The fried pickles were excellent and the cream of crab soup had lots of crab meat but needed seasoning. We eventually managed to flag down a server to get some crab seasoning and that helped a lot. Things went downhill from there. Half an hour went by and we noticed that people at the tables around us who had come in long after us had ordered, gotten their food, eaten it, and were now paying their checks. We asked our server what was going on and after a few minutes the owner came out and apologized. She said our ticket had gone in right after some large parties and that crabs come out faster because they come from the steamer but she didn't really have a response for why the table behind us who sat down about 20 minutes after us had finished their burgers and crab cakes already. Eventually our entrees came out, 40 minutes after the apps. We could smell the ammonia from the fried catfish. Pretty sure the oil the hush puppies were fried in wasn't hot enough because they were really greasy. My stuffed shrimp was supposed to be a crab cake over broiled shrimp with cream imperial on top. The shrimp was fine and the crab cake was good enough but nothing special. The problem was the "imperial" sauce. It was half an inch of hot mayonnaise sprinkled with J. O., no cream, no lemon or worchester, just mayo piled over everything. Both entrees were basically inedible. The owner came back and apologized again but also tried to tell us that they sell a lot of catfish so it couldn't be bad and that everyone loved their crab imperial. She was very nice about it and did comp our whole meal but it really felt like she didn't believe us that our food was bad. It's entirely possible we just got really unlucky with a bunch of kitchen mistakes but there were just too many for us to want to try again. read more

They have closed their trailer in Laurel and are now open in Dayton where Floyd's Crossroads Pub was. Some of the same employees and all of the good food as before. We recently stopped in on a lazy Saturday about 3pm for some soup, onion rings, steamed crabs & cold beer. Thats how Marylanders roll! All very good. Best crabcake I ever had lots of jumbo Crab meat in it. This is not a fancy restaurant. It's just really good crabcakes.

Crabs were big. Heavy, yellow fat and seasoned perfect. Service was friendly and attentive. Large crabs were $110 per dozen. Also had appetizers which were all very good. We will definitely return. read more

I was sooooo stoked to try Emmerts crabs last weekend and after the way my disabled veteran aunt was treated kind of rudely upon attempting to order, I was less enthused. She and my uncle really wanted to test this place out based on their reviews though, so we got a few dozen mixed males and females. Not only did the large sized ones not appear to be true to size, but we were most disappointed at how light and close to empty so many of them were with little to no meaty ones. I realize Emmerts isn't responsible for crabs being a little more scarce early on in the season especially considering it's been cold out. I think a more ethical thing to do would be for Emmerts to let you know when crabs are running light or sell them at picking crab rates when they are picking crabs' weight like Conrad's or Caseys crabs would. read more

I have always passed this place for years so when I was on my search to order a bushel for my family reunion this past weekend, this place came to my mind. I called about a week prior to see if I can reserve & pay ahead of time but due to high demand for crabs & their availability, I was able to pre-pay 48 hours before my event. The customer service here is great, it's a family-owned food truck/trailer and ample parking. There are no tables to eat in their lot but there are 4 chairs while you wait for your items to be steamed. Ok so onto the crabs-- Crab-o-licious! I ordered medium male crabs and they were so meaty! My family loved them and couldn't stop asking where I ordered them from, even the out-of-towners. I typically can eat 8-10 but were full after 6. At the end of our family function, I was able to take some home for a late night snack lol. I'll definitely be returning to Emmerts Seafood Truck to try their steamed shrimp and crab legs before the summer ends. read more

Would give zero if I could. Horrible experience. Arrived at 6pm with reservations made a week ago for my mother's birthday dinner this evening. Waitress seemed pleasant. Ordered appetizers and soups. About 10 minutes later ordered entrees. Appetizers (crab dip and hush puppies) and soups took almost an hour to arrive at the table. Crab dip tasted like it was made with rotten crabs and so bland. Had such a strange taste. Soup was watery and thin. Finally entrees came another 45 minutes later and 3 out of the 5 of us ordered stuffed shrimp. They were ice cold, not cooked all the way and the imperial sauce was like rancid mayonnaise. Inedible. Came here on a recommendation of a family friend. Drove an hour one way to be so disappointed. And the waitress never stopped once during the 45-60 minute waits between to update us as to why soup took 60 minutes to dip out of a pot. Very disappointed. read more

We have been several times over the summer and they are just spectacular!!! The crabs have been the best we have ever had and we have been going to this restaurant for 25 years ( different ownership) The crabs we just had were medium and looked like large. EVERY crab we served was super heavy and full. The cream of crab is a must, but honestly all the food is delicious. Don't miss out on the fresh grapefruit or orange crushes! I gave this a 1 star strictly because they charge a service fee for using bank OR debit cards. Irealize is a growing trend for restaurants these days but nearly every restaurant does not charge when using a DEBIT card since it comeS directly from your bank account. I know it sounds petty but in my mind, that is simply the cost of doing business. For the current price of crabs these days and the price gouging that is done, one would think that 3 people spending upwards of $200 for dinner would otherwise offset the 3% charge. We could have gone someplace else and not spent the $200 at Emmert's in the first place. There is no sign in the restaurant nor on the menu that I saw or noticed stating there would be a service charge for bank/debit card usage. I am not in the habit of carrying large sums of money around these days either with the growing accounts of theft and personal injury. So it's pretty unfair, in my opinion, to just spring this on a patron when it's time to pay your bill. There would also be no point in having an ATM machine in the establishment since that would most likely ALSO charge you a fee to access your account. I always tip even when the food and service was horrible. The big trend after Covid was to tip wait staff extremely well, which I always did. However, going forward, any restaurant that is going to charge me for using a DEBIT card to pay the bill will find that service being deducted from the tip to recoup the loss. That does sound unfair to the wait staff but always remember, tipping is customary, not mandatory. Sorry, that is just the cost of eating at your restaurant! Perhaps if enough wait staff complained to the owners, this trend will stop. In so far as the food and service goes at Emmert's, if you want to know just how the food and service actually was, I will need to charge you a 3% service charge for that information. Sorry, that is just the cost of doing business when eating at your restaurant. read more

First time I went back here, as I like their seafood and seafood in general, I was a bit surprised, as I asked the lady waiting on us, for my water without ice and received it with. OK, It happens. Then asked if a drink I saw with fresh Grapefruit juice was with alcohol, as I said I can not have alcohol, she said no, so i had 2 of those drinks and was sick like I do not know what all night as they did have alcohol, most prob wodka as I did not taste it, but I can not have alcohol and this was really bad. I went back a week later as I still believe for Seafood this is the best restaurant, around, but there, we have waited 1 hr and 20 minutes, for our order, which I believe is not acceptable. The lady waiting on us, was very nice, kept on excusing herself, but she could not help it. What I was surprised about is that we did not get a round of drinks offered or a desert or something that the restaurant acknowledges that they really were not OK with such a very long waiting time. I asked my Facebook fam on where to get the best crabs. After checking out 15 or so places, I chose to try Emmert's. And boiiiii did I choose the RIGHT PLACE. I got there today at 11:20 (May 9, 2020), waited half an hour only for them to run out of male crabs. Fortunately, Korean's prefer female crabs. I got a half bushel of female crabs, 1 roll of paper, a dozen corn and 6 mallets. I'm about to cry just by thinking about this. The quality of the crabs I received, though mixed, were great; very meaty, some contained eggs (loooove them!), seasoning was perfect and the timing of the cooking was impeccable. They also gave me a good amount of crabs for a half bushel. The corn? WHOA. I have never had such sweet and great quality corn in my life! My family and I weren't just satisfied, we were extremely happy. PS: While I was waiting in line, I saw the older lady who works there chase down a car and tell the guy not to tie the bag because it'll overcook the crabs. We tried this establishment last evening based on the reviews. As we sat at the bar waiting for our table we ordered drinks. My husband received his drink however I never received mine from the bar tender. I could have asked again for my drink but thought I would just wait until we were seated. As I was sitting at the bar, I noticed the bartender taking liquor and pouring shots for himself. I thought to myself this business must not be run very well if the owners are ok with the bartender drinking alcohol on the owner's dollar. I wonder how many of his friends also receive free drinks. Eventually this will catch up to the bottom line one way or another. As we were seated the waitress took our drink order again only to forget my soft drink yet again. The food was fine, not fantastic. The waitress was ok, she did have to clarify multiple times what I ordered. Not a deal breaker just very unorganized. read more

I ordered crabs a few days in advance and lady called me next day said she quoted me wrong price but it was only $2 I didn't even care but very nice of them to do! The day picking them up lady taking money was extremely friendly and she said I was going love every thing and she was RIGHT delicious those Steamed SHRIMP were the best I have had anywhere for years! We got two Pounds beautiful and large! Got a doz and half of Large crabs! They were on point! Meaty and seasoned to perfection the corn on the cob delicious they cook it with the crabs! My go to location for blue crabs when I come home to visit! You'll have to know where it is or you may drive past it if you're looking for it while driving. The owners have always been nice to my family when we come to pick up. You'll have to call ahead and place an order but they'll have them ready by the time you arrive. Plenty of car parking if you place your order there and have to wait, but the crabs are worth the wait if you love seafood! The overall prices of crabs are high, so their pricing did go up a bit, but based on quality and service, I'd recommend you stopping by for your seafood fix. read more

hmm, this location is okay and the food is fine. Customer service as well, one thing i did NOT like is that they had a dog in the kitchen truck. To me that's pretty disturbing because it's food and it's really unsanitized. People have their views of their pets and that's fine, but i think you shouldn't where there's food/ kitchen. The crabs were just thrown in a big, no container no nothing. so that says a lot about this. They tasted great, just everything looks rushed and unprofessional. read more

I had my experience a few months ago but I forgot to actually post my review... When I contacted them through Facebook they were very responsive and were able to let me pre-order two dozen crabs for a crab feast I was having with some friends. I gave them my pick up time and they made sure that my crabs are fresh and ready for me to go. They advised that I do not close the bag so that I can keep the crabs fresh and not have them over steam and when my friends and I sat down to eat they were perfect. Every crab is heavy all the meat was delicious and sweet it was a great experience overall I will come back here every time I need crabs. And the price was great! read more

I ordered the fried clams and coleslaw. Coleslaw was decent. Now for the clams. If you want breaded fried like a rock with chewy rubber bands inside they are for you. I won't give them a second chance to get me to the dentist. read more
