Okay, so you can see my previous rave "5 star" review below. I've been back several times and have some thoughts. I'm going with a "4" on this update to split the difference between the 5-star dining experiences I've had and the 3-star happy hour experiences. So--it still stands that if you're coming here for a full meal and go with the pizza or burgers, a cocktail, dessert--it's great stuff. But this place could be so much more. It's in a perfect location for grabbing a quick bite and/or drink before or after a movie at the Regal upstairs. Park free, walk down the steps--door to door a couple minutes between the theater and the restaurant as well as the free parking. There's a bar to sit at. Vibe is fine. However-- your "quick bite" options are severely lacking: breadsticks, cheese sticks, or boneless wings. There are some pricey salads but that's about it. You can get those wings quickly--I've tried them 3 times now and I'm done. The flavor combo is fine but the texture always makes me think of frozen chicken nuggets. To make matters worse-- absolutely no happy hour deals. They used to advertise happy hour, but selectively utilize it and sometimes those prices were higher than the menu prices. So you can grab an $8 draft beer or $12 well cocktail even at 4-6 pm on a weekday. Just a tad ridiculous. So--great for a full dinner; set up for a good happy hour spot but sorely lacking. First time here. We were in town for an event and I've heard good things, so we gave it a shot. Had the Esso but customized half of it. It was excellent - the sauce blew me away. Very fresh with what tasted like San Marzano tomatoes, although the temperature of the pizza was warm, not hot. It was a Wednesday night so we just about had the entire place to ourselves. Bar service was good. I'd like to go back when there's a larger crowd and to try some of their other menu items. Tasty spot. read more

This location fell short of the experience I had at the East Nashville one. To start, I asked for a regular detroit style small pizza with cheese and extra sauce. The guy taking the call tells me my total will be ~$22. He then tells me extra sauce is a $3 upcharge. That's absurd, I immediately told him to take it off the bill. If I ordered steak as a topping sure, but extra sauce is so cheap that most pizza restaurants offer it for free. The East Nashville location didn't put a ridiculous upcharge on me. When I arrived to pick up the pizza, the gals up front were confused and thought my order was lost. Finally, after talking to a manager, the guy who took my order remembered my call in and handed me the pizza. The pizza was tasty but the experience was lacking compared to my trip to the East Nashville location. read more

Detroit Style Pizza!! Today was my first visit in Green Hills and the Pizza was definitely the star out of the items we tried. Everything was hot and fresh but the pizza was the Bomb. We tried the Jumbo wings and the award winng burger called Le Big Matt. They offer shareable apps, shareable salads, burgers, sandwiches, 2 pasta dishes and 2 desserts. They have 13 different pizzas to chose from or you can build your own pizza. They have a full bar area along with umbrella covered outdoor seating when the the weather is right. There is plenty of free parking but you might have to cruise around to find a spot when the mall is packed. Our server was friendly and helpful and the food came out in about 15 minutes. The interior of the restaurant doesn't feel like a pizza place, but being located in Green Hills you know they scaled it up a bit. It's nice. I recommend and I will be going back. read more

Emmy Squared makes a legit Detroit style pizza. I love this location by the Green Hills Mall. This location is in front of the mall. I've been lucky enough to find parking in the surface lot, but there is garage parking nearby too. The restaurant has an upscale feel for a pizza spot. I love the ambiance here and like that it doesn't feel like a pizza joint. The service here has been friendly and efficient. The food comes out pretty fast. We liked what we ordered the first time that we ordered the exact same items the second time. The Zia Fries are a generous one pound portion of waffle fries covered in cheddar queso, bacon, and onion. They are really good. The Caesar Salad is a typical version and also a large shareable portion. The Big Ang Pizza is so delicious! The crust is deep and buttery. The ricotta and pecorino make it perfectly cheesy. I love the vodka sauce base. I'm picky about Detroit style pizza and I really loved this pizza. My daughter orders Pizza Sticks from the kid's menu and enjoys it. The pizza sticks are delicious. It comes with a side and a drink too. The Red Sangria on my first visit was amazing. One of the best I've had. The second time it was just okay. Emmy Squared is a favorite for my family. I came here on a whim after watching a movie and I sat at the bar. The ambience is really nice. Low lighting, dark furniture, and random cat and dinosaur art everywhere (ask your server why, I found it very funny and brought some character to the place). The drinks were very tasty and my server/bartender was super hospitable and helpful. My little coconut: 4.5/5. I'd drink multiple of these for sure. Nice and sweet. Frothy. Intrusive thought: 3/5. Very strong but very similar to an old fashioned so I should've seen it coming. Not my favorite but that's personal preference, not a critique of the drink. Roni supreme: 4/5. The pizza was actually pretty good. This was my first time having Detroit style pizza. The bread was so soft and fluffy. Of course, the cheese was over the entire pizza. The chili added a really nice spice aspect to the pizza that I appreciated. It's not overpowering but it definitely is spicy for those who don't like spicy food. My biggest issue with this pizza was the limited amount of pepperoni. For something called the Roni supreme, I expected way more pepperoni. Overall, I'd definitely come here again. Emmy Squared has historically been one of our favorite Green Hills location for a quick bite near the mall (with awesome parking garage lots behind it). Just a tip if you, like us, wanted to avoid extreme weather conditions to get to the restaurant from the garages behind: if you park by the garage right near the theater, there's a direct route to Emmy Squared. Otherwise, you're relegated to traipsing across the parking area rife with haphazard cars or re-routed through the mall (and nearly missing your reservation...not that it happened to us...haha.) Anyway, on the topic of service, wait staff are punctual and efficient. We've always had our table ready upon reserving online, but it's not really that busy during early evening hours around 5 or 6. If you'd rather not risk it, you can always reserve just in case. They have high chairs and booster seats for little ones as well. The food is, as they say, a Brooklyn-meets-Detroit-style delight. I love their cheesy breadsticks with marinara as an appetizer. We just had their Seoul Mate, their take on a South Korean kimchi/bulgogi pizza (delicious) and the Angel (cheesy truffle goodness). If you love pizza with a bit more depth but with toppings galore, this is your restaurant. The ambiance is casual but a bit romantic with the low lighting and inspired cocktails. Emmy Squared pizza has the best thick crust square Detroit style pizza I have ever tried. When they brought out the pizzas, I thought they were burnt as there was a black crust around each one. The waitress asked if it was ok so I broke off a piece and it was delicious. We kept the pizzas. The dough on the inside is light and airy and the crust was crunchy but not greasy at all. The tomato sauce tastes like tomatoes, not pizza sauce. I would pass on the expensive drinks next time. Oh don't miss the $10 shareable caesar salad. It went perfect with the pizzas. How do they get their lettuce so crisp? It had two anchovy filets on top and toasted garlicky bread crumbs for extra crunch which is an excellent alternative to croutons. To get an idea how many pizzas to order, we had four big eaters; we ordered three pizzas and a salad and still went home to two extra slices. Perfect! read more

I just love Emmy Squared. If you're looking for Detroit Style pizza done well, this is your place. If you don't know what Detroit style is, it's basically a super thick, rectangular pizza with fluffy, chewy, and crispy crust. I'd almost venture to say it's like putting pizza toppings on focaccia, then crisping it up to caramelized perfection. Here's what I've tried: -MVP: 11/10 - YUM!!!!! The crust is so fluffy and crispy at the same time, the vodka sauce is so flavorful, and the pesto on top just brings it to another dimension. What puts this pizza over the top for me is the sesame seed crust. It is so dang crispy and deliciously nutty, in a way that just makes me crave more. -Big Ang: 9/10 - Absolutely delicious. Again, can't go wrong with the vodka sauce, and the ricotta and extra pecorino make it cheesy and decadent. I'm also a big fan of sausage and banana peppers, so they were great additions! -Seoul Mate: 7/10 - It's good, and I do like Kimchi, but honestly I don't think that it really belongs on a pizza. It isn't badly done though, and I know a few of my friends really enjoyed it. It's also got a nice kick to it! -Caesar Salad: 3/10 - Just too fishy for me. If you like the taste of anchovies then by all means go for it, but it just didn't hit for me. -Cheesy Garlic Sticks: 10/10 - You just can't go wrong with garlic bread. But it is SO good. They make it so cheesy and flavorful. I also have a friend who's gotten their burger and waffle fries, and have gotten good reviews for the fries (which come in a massive portion)! It's all definitely on the pricey end (a burger and fries is 25??) but as someone with a BIG appetite, I'll eat the whole pizza and feel quasi-stuffed. read more

If you're looking for a sign, this is your sign. You must come here! The Le Big Matt burger is my favorite burger from anywhere, and I am absolute burger snob. It's always been at the top of my list. The ambience in this particular location has always been memorable, and the service has not once been disappointing. Another huge plus: my wife is vegan and gluten free, and Emmy's has a wonderful gluten-free crust so it's one of the few places we can go where we're both able to eat and be full!
