This place has earned a spot on my list of go to places for lunch near my office in Hauppauge. I ordered the empanada lunch special on my first visit. It came with rice and beans and a soda in addition to the empanadas. Empanadas are not huge, so you will want to order at least two. I ordered the Columbian burrito on my next visit. It seemed like an odd mix of ingredients with the different meats and sweet plantains, but I was absolutely delicious. Arroz con pollo and the mini paisa are my other two go tos. They have a lot of good different empanadas, which are all very good. I have been thoroughly enjoying working my way through the menu. The Cuban sandwich is excellent and a great deal at $10 including fries. Rotisserie chicken is really good. Moist and flavorful. But the grilled mango chicken is even better. I love this place and I could walk there! No more trucking it to Brentwood for me! I'm so happy this place opened and the food is delicious. I suggest ordering online before picking it up because they cook the food to order and it can get very busy in there. it's more of a take-out spot than a restaurant but don't let that dissuade you from popping in and having some Colombian food. The food at this place is phenomenal!!! For my birthday we were looking for a place close to my girlfriends house. She suggested pollo rico as we've had their food and it was good in the past but we wanted something a little less entree like for the occasion. Since there were a few of us we ordered several items on the menu. Half a dozen empanadas (all different flavors), stuffed sweet plantain, stuffed arepa and tostones. Amazing!!! The perfect finger food to share as we shared stories and drank. Although we used uber eats the food arrived fresh, everything was perfectly cooked our order was 100% accurate and amazing!! I've been spoiled living next to the Empanada Spot in Oakland Gardens. Empanada Spot is owned by the same people as Mamas Empanadas. After moving to the area, I finally decided to venture out and find some local empanadas. * Arroz con Pollo - shredded chicken mixed with carrots, peas and seasoned rice. There was a whole sweet plantain. In my opinion the portion size was large and the dish had lots of flavor. Recommended. * Arepa with cheese - nice texture, good amount of cheese and pretty large for $4.99. Served with two sauces. One was a creamy green sauce that was very mild and a thicker thousand island like dressing. Recommended. * Shredded Beef Stuffed Plantain - I asked for the sour cream on the side and they did not include it. The dish itself was delicious. The plantain was split in half and stuffed with shredded beef and cheese. The beef was seasoned very well and the balance of meat to plantain was perfect. Recommended but wish I had the sour cream. * Mexican Burrito with Steak - Large burrito but mostly rice. The steak was not spread throughout the burrito but this is just a minor detail. I would give the burrito another shot but it's nothing to rave about. * Taco Empanada - Crunchy empanada like exterior filled with beef and the fixings like a taco. Really good deal for the price and recommended. * Empanadas - Ordered an assortment of chicken with potato, guava and cheese, ground beef and cheese, and sausage and jalapeño. My husband said he was given the craziest look when asked for extra green sauce as the order requested. We got home to find just the two that she put in at my husbands request so we would not have had sauce if he didn't check. The sauce struggle seems to be with every empanada restaurant. Nonetheless the chicken and potato empanada was good. The empanadas weren't super crunchy. The ones I get from Queens stays crunchy for several hours. Went here for the first time a half hour before closing. Got a full rack of ribs and three empanadas. The staff was extremely friendly and the food was great. I never thought the ribs would be fall off the bone delicious but they were indeed just that. The empanadas are some of the best you'll ever have. The salsa options are all great and compliment the different foods they have well. Most of all it's affordable. Next time I would call my order in ahead of time. The standout empanadas ordered was the shrimp and potato, pernil (slow roasted pork) and cheese, and taco empanada. The taco empanada was an open faced empanada with everything you'd expect in a taco. It was absolutely delightful and a genius work of culinary skill. Wow! Ordered for the first time yesterday and the food was out of this world deeeelish! Typically I don't review anything...well unless it's awful but this was amazing! Very friendly person took my order for takeout. Ready in 20 minutes. We ate probably a quarter of the food and were ridiculously full. My husband got the Colombian burrito and that thing was the size of my thigh (okay, I'm exaggerating but the thing was huge). He cut it, not quite in half (40/60%) and ate the smaller half. It was tooooo much! And so delicious. I was way more modest and ordered a bunch of empanadas: all of which were delicious and again, way too much food. We order a 'side' of coconut rice which could feed a family of 8, easily, with leftovers. And it's the best rice I think I've ever had. DEFINITELY ordering from them again. I read all the other reviews and I'm appalled at the few low ratings claiming "over priced" or "small portions" PLEASE BITCHES. Legit empanadas. My husband and I each inhaled the ground beef and cheese, tuna melt, jalapeño and cheese and ham, pinapple and cheese empanadas in minutes. We ordered a bunch of different empanada, Mexican rice and a chicken arepa. All were good but the real standout was the chicken taco empanadas they we're delicious. 2nd best was the yellow rice chicken and plantain empanadas. Really good fresh sauce to poor on, definitely request extra(they skimped a little considering the amount of empanadas we ordered).Will be ordering again before next years celebration commemorating The Mexican 1862 Battle of Puebla (the Mexican Army's victory over France). Yay for a great new local spot! Food was fresh - great flavors from the Bomb burrito (it was large too) to various empanadas and sweet plantains. Favorite empanada by far was the basic corn flour chicken and potato but really all we had were great (pineapple/ham/cheese, guava/cheese, sausage/potato/jalapeño, ground beef/olives). Empanadas for the delivery were also all clearly labeled. Street corn appetizer was very flavorful but I think I'll wait until we get to local corn season to order it again. The menu has an overwhelming number of items on it which I'm thankful for but does make decision making tough. We did DoorDash for delivery which I have to say, I'm impressed for a new spot to have that all set up from the start. And the restaurant had packed a bunch of sauces to go with the various items without us needing to request them which was great(!) but if I ever make it into the restaurant (unlikely because DoorDash) I will definitely be looking to find out what exactly they all were. read more
