"A Symphony of Disappointment - Empanadas Café" Wow, what a letdown! I'd heard so much about Empanadas Café and even saw it featured as the "Best Empanadas in Queens". So, I embarked on the long subway journey from Manhattan Hudson Yards to Corona Queens with high expectations. Unfortunately, my experience was nothing short of a massive disappointment! The food was dry, and when I say dry, I mean REALLY dry. The empanadas made from "Trigo" were as hard as a rock! I thought I was in for a meal, not a jaw workout. And don't get me started on the cheese empanada. It's supposed to be a simple dish, right? Well, it was barely cooked and as dry as the rest. Not one to be picky, I took the plunge and ordered ALL 10 options they had. Can you guess how many were good? Just 1! That's just unacceptable. I spent so much time traveling for good food, only to find that almost all of it was a bust. If they were to offer me the same food for free, I'd kindly decline. I really can't reconcile my experience with the good reviews. Sorry, Empanadas Café, but you're getting 1 star from me. To top it all off, the whole experience left a bad taste in my mouth, both literally and figuratively. It simply didn't live up to the hype. read more

My favorite empanada spot! It's a teeny tiny restaurant with very limited seating - no more than 15 seats. In the summer time, they have some outdoor seating. The wait time for your order is roughly 12-18min. This CASH only nook prepares ahhhh-mazzzing empanadas. They are made with either corn, white or whole grain flour. Each flour type has its own filling so you cannot ask for a switch. My favorites are sweet plantain with mozzarella, ground turkey with cheese, shrimp with potato. My goddddddd - yes it's that good! I stopped at this corner restaurant at the height of lunch hour and had to wait 15 minutes to order. This gave me time to figure out which of their empanadas was best to order. Went for the chicken, plantain, and veggie. Delicious; some of the best I've had in New York. I've read some complaints about the service but, considering that they were very crowded, I didn't think it was any better or worse that other crowded eateries in New York. I would recommend that you go during off-rush hours - late morning and after lunch. read more

Food is good, value is fantastic. They fry the empanadas on the spot, so they don't sit around getting soggy. Very cool. I like the white flour and multigrain empanadas the most, especially the chicken and ricotta, and their amazing green salsa completes the deal. read more
