I anticipated coming here since planning my trip. It was slightly hard to find because I came a few minutes before opening hours. Look for an awning with a heart wire and sits between a drug store and a gelato place. I was ultimately surprised that they this is made to order. I took mine to go to better enjoy. Each bag was labeled, the empanada wrapped in a napkin and comes with a garlic pesto dipping sauce. The empanada....a must! Since I went to Chile, Santiago I had a craving for homemade empanadas. These are Argentinian and I will crave theirs as well. Every one I tried had a crispy shell and fresh ingredients. Starting from my favorite I tried the Pancho Villa, a three cheese with jalapeño, the Popeye, spinach with cheese, and the Huonguitos, mushroom with cheese. Connie and her clerk were both very kind. Cost for three were $120 peso. A tiny bit pricey. read more

We just came across this awesome New business called Empanadas House today. Connie Potisek, the owner said that she just literally opened it. Empanadas were DELICIOUS!!! Her chimmichurri sauce is amazing!!! We highly recommend the place. It's not a big place. There was only one table inside. It was 3 of us and we ate there and chit chatted with Connie. Was looking forward to trying this place out on my trip and glad we did. We had sweet empanadas and enjoyed every bite. Next time I will do some savory ones. Just gorged myself. These are fantastic! The Ajijic was my favorite. Just spicy enough. And they come with some delicious (cilantro?) salsa to dip them in. I lived in Argentina for a while and these pass the test. I'll have more before I leave, for sure. They make a great meal, or a snack, or breakfast. This place has the best empanadas we ever tasted. We were in Argentina, a country known for its empanadas, about three years ago, and we tried the empanadas there. I am not kidding; the empanadas at the Empanadas House are by far much better than the ones we had in Argentina. They are freshly prepared. What a treat! Ordered 7 savory (la argentina, honguitos & marro) and 2 sweet (beso de angel) empanadas to go, which was a perfect afternoon snack for 4 of us. Each empanada had the perfect balance between pastry and filling. Perhaps not empanadas that will blow your mind but it was quick, tasty, and the ladies that run the lil shop were very kind. I would take my mama here. This is a restaurant with a big heart and wonderful food. Because the restaurant is so small, it would be easy to walk by without seeing it. The empeñada quality was outstanding due in large measure to the pastry which was a combination of whole wheat and almond flour. The fillings are varied and are delicious. I had the Argentina, which is filled with ground sirloin, olives and bell pepper. The two salsas, picante and a creamy cilantro garlic were so amazingly soul-satisfying that I wanted slurp them up by the spoonful. The shredded carrot garnish had what seemed like a crema-based blue cheese dressing with a couple of blueberries. The juxtaposition of flavors was so unexpectedly good. Everything was served on ceramic plates with a high level of attention to detail. We ate at a small counter inside the kitchen, watching Connie make the Empeñadas using the skills that her mother taught her. The kitchen which was spotlessly clean! Each ingredient was sourced and handled with care by Connie and her two helpers. All of the fillings and salsas were kept refrigerated when not in use. Just in case you, like I think primarily of savory empeñadas, be prepared for a surprise! Empeñada House has awesome dessert empeñadas. Connie encouraged us to try their strawberry and cream and quince with cream cheese empeñadas with caramel sauce. Wow! inconceivably good. The prices were so reasonable. When in Puerto Vallarta, I encourage you to skip one of those high-priced gringo restaurants with meh food, and go here instead! read more

This is a hole in the wall with 3 small outside tables, next to a Taxi parking spot (fumes, back-ups). The Argentinian empanada is well-made, served with a tasty sauce on the side. However, they have gone up from 65 to 80 pesos (= $3.81 USD. expensive for Mexico and the place). read more
