This is a takeout Chinese food establishment. I have been going there for many years already and have never been disappointed . Their food is always excellent and fresh. The service has always been fast, and courteous. The orders have always been correct and the food has always been delicious. The food here is actually better than most dine in restaurants. Ordered take out last week for 4, to the tune of nearly $95.00 and sadly,. WHAT A COMPLETE WASTE. Ordered 4 combination plates ( all different), Several soups, sesame noodles, Szechuan noodles, dumplings and more. Have been VERY disappointed lately at the Low quality of their food over the past several months. So much so, that we have decided to never return. Found lots of pieces of fried chicken skin, ("NOTchicken) in my chicken and broccoli dish. The amount of oil used for their fried rice, and everything else is very concerning! Unbelievably, all 4 of us had the same impression of our food being super oily, tasteless and just plain unappetizing. I truly hate to trash a business, but this has been our experience for the last three takeouts, and we are done! I hope that the owners read this review and decide to hire some decent cooks because the ones they have now cannot perform. They should take this criticism seriously and try and improve their extremely unappetizing and mediocre food. There are better choices in the area. read more

I have written very good reviews for Empire and have purchased their takeout food ever since they began business. Their food is excellent for takeout Chinese fare. However, and I'm telling this because I find it amusing yet upsets me. I bought a large Hot and Sour soup Monday and I asked for an extra bag of the hard noodles. You get two bags with a large. When I went to pick they charged $1.50 for the extra bag. Wasn't expecting that lol. I of course had them take back since I doubt their cost wasn't more than .25 cents if that. I can't begin to calculate the amount of money I've spent since they opened. Thought I would share. I won't stop going there but so petty and cheap and not good customer service. read more

Quick order by number restaurant. Delivery is speedy. Don't expect anything fancy. Just your typical take out Chinese spot. Ever since Asian gourmet switched owners and heard the food went down hill we've been ordering from here . Always get the order right always all extra sauces I ask for. Really good chicken and broccoli and the dumpling sauce is really good too!! Lo mein is also a favorite from here. Pick up and delivery is quick. Only once have I had to wait 45 minutes but they sounded do busy on the phone. I usually wait 15-20 for the food from hang up on the phone to my door. Never cold always hot. They do have snapple cans of soda and sometimes get a free big bottle of soda with a larger order. read more

Unbelievable Chinese Take Out. Been eating from Empire for almost 20 years and it's extremely consistent, reasonable pricing and some of the best fried rice, general tso's, dumplings, chicken and broccoli and boneless spare ribs I've ever had. Of the probably 50 Chinese take out places I've eaten from over the years across the city and suburbs, Empire is tied for first with another place in Queens. Very friendly and nice people who own and work at empire as well. I love empire and give it a 10 out of 10! read more

Even from the outside, the place reeks run-down environment. As you walk in, you can clearly feel the oily atmosphere, which is common in Chinese cuisine. I simply ordered General Tso's chicken to get a baseline of this place. The food taste was not bad. It was okay. However, here is the catch. I will be very honest and say I avoided this location for many years, after not being impressed by their food... This evening my office ordered dinner from empire and I decided to give them another try. Although the wait time was frustrating the food was actually very good. I opted for sesame chicken (made with white meat) and fried rice. Chicken was good, a large portion and they only charged 50 cents extra (most places charge a dollar for white meat). Rice was nicely cooked and not burnt. Again, staff seemed all over the place making the wait extremely long (30+ min for 3 dinners), but the wait was worth it. I think there's a shrimp shortage at this place. Whenever I order some food with shrimp in it - like shrimp egg rolls, there's 50/50 chance there's shrimp inside the dumpling or not. Shrimp with the mushroom? 80%mushroom, maybe 20% shrimp on a lucky day. Rest of the food not bad, acceptable... And, pick your food up. I ordered from them on Friday night. I got fried rice, which I was super excited about. I was starving so I was scarfing it down. Next thing I know, I bite down on something hard. I thought maybe it was a vegetable that hadn't been cooked fully...well nope. It was a pebble. I rinsed it off cause I was in such disbelief and yup that's exactly what it was. The dry fried tofu and stir fried shrimp have the perfect texture, the vegetables are always expertly cooked with a slight crunch remaining, and the egg rolls are always fresh, crispy, and chewy without ever being greasy. Favorite dish here hands down is the wonton eggdrop soup-very generous on the egg, the pork inside is always tender with a delicious and mildly sweet, and the wontons themselves are extremely doughy. The food was OK, but I am a picky eater so I can't blame them for that. I rated them one star because the delivery man was very rude. He didn't even get out the car he made me come all the way outside to receive my food through his passenger window. Then on top of that he wouldn't hand me my food! I waited and asked if there was a problem fully aware that it was pre-paid for. He then begins to tell me there was no tip added. Usually I put the tip on my card since I'm horrible at keeping cash without losing it. So I asked if he was sure (I did order on grub hub which is a little glitchy some times) and he then starts to explain something I couldn't begin to understand. I then apologized because I had no cash on me at the moment and he starts shaking his head stuff the menu in the bag THROWS the food at me and then waves me off and speeds away. I would give this place 4 stars - the food we've always ordered has been hot and very tasty. We usually try new things, and the reasonable prices have us coming back. Usually the delivery takes 20-45 mins (depending on the day of the week), but food is still hot! One reason I had to take away a star is due to our last delivery - we had to wait 2 hours for it to get delivered. It was a Sunday evening, so I'm not sure if that had to do anything with it. But I called at the 1 hour mark, and the lady told me the guy was here. I'm not sure if that was here as in my complex or here as in the restaurant. I called back at 1:30 when the food was still not here and was told he's on his way. Finally at 2 hours the man arrived, truly apologetic and told me I didn't have to tip him. He said they just gave him the order a few minutes ago and he had brought it. My guest is they forgot my order. The food was piping hot (which after 2 hours you wouldn't expect), so I guess that was good. I'm hoping next time this doesn't happen, as I really like their food - Crab ragoons, general tso's, and dragon/phoenix are our go tos. Best crab ragoons in the area actually. Over $30 we always get a free soda, which is a nice perk. Prices are reasonable for the area, and we usually buy enough to have dinner for a few nights between the two of us. Their delivery service is a joke. I gave them the benefit of the doubt several times and it's only gotten worse. I first tipped them as I placed the order so before the food arrived and it took over 50 min to come. Next time, I thought holding off on the tip would give them some incentive ... nope. I can honestly say that this food is the best of it's kind in the area. I have tried numerous places before but now I have found my go-to place. I have only ever received delivery but every time it is extremely fast. (20-25 minutes) I also live about 5 miles away. The boneless ribs combination platter is perfect. There is no fat on any of the pieces like you get from other places. The chicken and broccoli is also on point. The lady on the phone is nice but tends to rush you to finish your order. Overall, the food is cheap! Roughly $5 combination platter for lunch that comes with soup too! The portions are huge (I normally get 2-3 decent sized meals out of one order of about $10) I would 100% recommend this place. read more

The food has always been pretty even over the years. However we ordered take-out a few nights ago and the food was not very good at all. (Dumplings were stale and the chicken with cashews was overcooked). Worse yet, the portions have shrunk by about a third. Too bad. Hope this was just a bad night. I'm baffled by the poor reviews! I'm not sure to what they are comparing this restaurant. It's a storefront business, not a grand, overpriced fusion bistro, so let's drop some pretense here. For what it is, a take-out/delivery Chinese place, it is excellent. They do all your favorites here and they do them well. The kitchen is consistently on point with only the rare off-night. I've served their food to a wide variety of people and I've never heard a bad review. One group of our friends insist on it every time they visit, as they cannot find good Chinese food near them (they moved up to Westchester from the city). Excellent food, quick delivery and you never get the feeling that it's warmed over as you do with some takeout places. You always feel as if you are getting excellent food and they are good for people who like spicy and people who like healthy and people who like Americanized Chinese food . The typical specials such as general tso's chicken is very good as well as the dumplings and hot and sour soup is especially good. Very very very disappointed. I didn't mean to put a single star but it won't let me delete or redo it. I ordered the vegetable Chop Suey yesterday. It was mostly onions the vegetables looked like left overs from other menus. No flavor or taste at all. You can't even tell what the other vegetables were as they wee chopped so fine. Doesn't look and taste like any other chop suey I have ordered in the past from other restaurants. I guess I will never order this dish ever again. I also ordered the vegetable soup and very disappointed as well. It's tasted as bland as it looked. Seems like they just boiled the vegetables in water and added soy sauce for coloring. The cook need to cook what's on their menu and taste it to check flavor. I know they wouldn't have eaten or served what I had last night if they knew what it tasted like. I've never had a Chinese food this bad. Please go over your menu and taste check it if you want to keep your customers to keep coming back. Especially the vegetable dishes. Thank you.
