Old school basic Chinese takeout. Prices are fair and portions generous. No it is not NYC Chinese food. It is a couple of cuts below a neighborhood Chinese in Manhattan, but reliable. But it is the only game in town. Eggdrop/wonton good. Wontons are admittedly too doughy but filling is fine. No you won't get soup dumplings here. Better off with chicken, pork, or beef dishes vs the seafood. They laughed at me when I once asked for Chinese broccoli, and said we don't sell it because Americans don't like Chinese broccoli. I get it. Service is brusque, but fast. The only other competition in the nabe are a couple of sushi places that also serve hot entrees, many of which are off of a Chinese restaurant menu. The economics of a dedicated Chinese restaurant have made it untenable to survive in Northern Westchester. Just not enough volume. On's is cash only and take out only in an unimproved space with very low overhead on a busy street in Pville, with no parking. read more

Let me start by saying that I usually love this restaurant. It reminds me of fast food Chinese food from New York City. Today I had the exact opposite experience. When I went to pick up my food today they handed me my "mild"General Tso's chicken. When I told them it was to have "rice" on the side. they must have heard "spice" on the side. Honest mistake. But then they refuse to remake the dish correctly and simply remixed it in a used wok after The owner argued with me for 5 minutes. However, there are somethings you need to be to be prepared for: 1) They DO NOT take credit cards and are a cash only business. 2) When you call in for an order be prepared for them to be rushed and abrupt. You'll leave wondering did they get it right. 3) When you arrive since they didn't take my name, I was a bit confused about how they would know it was me but mentioned what I ordered, and the lady picked up my order from the side. I've been jonesing Chinese food the last few days but being that we're in the middle of the Covid pandemic and being that there are way too many knuckdragging morons who think they can get it from eating Chinese food - EVERY Chinese food place I've driven by is closed - EXCEPT On's. First time here and I have to say that every dish we ordered was prepared differently than we're use to - not that they were bad, but different. The egg foo young came in a white sauce, we're use to a dark sauce...and the egg foo young was in the sause, usually the sauce is separate. The tofu home style was pretty good. They even asked if we wanted it firm or soft - I'm not use to being asked how the tofu should be prepared. The vegetable fried rice also tasted a little different. Almost has a smokey taste, which was quite good. The 5 stars is mainly for being hardy enough to be open during these difficult times. This place is a bit out of the way for me so I'm not sure I'd come during normal times but I won't hesitate to order again during the pandemic. read more

Great value. Food is very good, portions generous. It's basically all take-out; there are a few small tables in the tiny area between the door & the counter. They don't take credit cards. When I call in my order, it's always ready promptly. Park on Cooley St. They charge less than some other places which serve similar food because their overhead is kept to a minimum. We enjoy many of their dishes- e.g., chicken with cashew nuts, sesame beef, lo mein. Quality seems consistent so I wouldn't worry about ordering a dish from them that you haven't tried before. I was looking to satisfy our Chinese take-out craving but our favorite local place closed...for good. We absolutely loved them and searched the internet for something comparable. I guess we have high expectations. This was NOTHING to brag about. The egg rolls were greasy and overly fried... the steamed dumplings were all dough and nothing like the smooth little pockets of tasty meat...I requested steamed chicken and eggplant and I was told they can't accommodate because eggplant takes too long to cook-even though I have always had it steamed regardless of where I went. My husband said his fried rice was OK and the lo mein was OK as well but not great. I read that this is the best place in town. I am sorry, Pleasantville. When you eat at On's, you have to know what you're getting yourself into. You can't expect exquisite cuisine. You can't expect non-greasy, healthy food. You can't expect to know exactly what's in the food. And you can't expect to not have heart burn and a little tummy ache later. However, with the full knowledge in mind that On's is a quick and dirty takeout place with that quick and dirty takeout taste that you know you love but you're afraid to admit, you can truly enjoy what On's has to offer. It's cheap, the restaurant seems a little bit dirty, but the food tastes so good. The woman who works behind the counter is SUPER nice - if my change is supposed to be 97¢ she'll usually give me a $1. If I ordered a lot of food, she'll give me free drinks or throw other freebies in there. And the food tastes great, as long as you recognize it's more akin to quick takeout/buffet taste. Definite recommendations: Steamed pork dumplings, sesame chicken (especially the Sesame Chicken combo with fried rice for $7.50 last I checked), pork lo mein, and barbecue spare ribs. On's is one of those typical little Chinese food "restaurants" you can find all over the place. It is small and kind of dirty, but a lot of people eat there often. The service is good and very fast. The cashier there is probably one of the fastest women I've ever seen in my life. She can count change and take orders at the speed of light. I am not over-exaggerating. The food is good for the price, especially the buffet. I highly recommend delivery, especially rather than ordering in.
