I have not had shrimp toast in decades and had been craving them. Empire Chinese is the only local place that has it. I got the shrimp toast and a lunch sesame chicken. They cook to order, which I like. The toasts were dark, which had me concerned. But the shrimp mixture inside was tasty and juicy! I will definitely go back for that . I have been going to Empire since they opened. The few individuals when they started were very accommodating and welcoming. One of the owners told me they will accommodate "lower spice" for my mother who doesn't like spicy. They would remember us every time we came back, asking how the last order was. But yesterday, a young man was on the counter and not so nice to patrons, even yelling at them. When I picked up my order he said " What's your number? What's your order?" . The usual people I'm use to handed him my order and immediately gave me an open hand for payment. He ran my card, gave me back my card and then literally screamed at me "Sign, sign, sign" while throwing a pen at me and hovering. Have visited twice and got the large vegetable fried rice and order of spring rolls. The fried rice is good, the preparation is quick and the staff is friendly. They even send you a text to let you know when your order is ready. Much appreciated and will continue to visit. Maybe next time I'll get the general tso tofu. read more

Really good lunch. I ordered online and it was ready and waiting at the time I chose. It was hot. Good start. We ordered the roast pork lo mein lunch and it included fried rice and an eggroll which was crunchy and flavorful. Also, the General Tso's chicken lunch with my choice of vegetable lo mein. The boneless ribs and a pint of hot and sour soup completed the order. My very, very picky wife loved this meal and so did I. Everything was seasoned perfectly and flavorful. The General Tso's chicken was spicy but just perfect, not hot. And the boneless pork ribs were scrummy with a nice smoke on them. My only critique is that the lo mein noodles were ever so slightly overcooked and the fried rice was a titch dry. Also, the hot and sour soup could use a little more hot and sour but it was a very good soup. Rich and clear broth with lots of tofu and meat. We're looking forward to our next visit. read more

I have no idea if this place delivers. I wish I found out before I left. But after getting my food I just wanted to go home and stuff my face. So the wait sucks! No matter what you order they will tell you 5-10 minutes. The guy in front of me ordered everything on the chicken and pork menu and the cashier still said 5-10 minutes. So I go over to Publix for 15 minutes to come back and have to wait an additional 5 minutes. But the food was great. So not bad. In addiition the portion sizes are huge. I order dinner. Eat half and save the rest for lunch the following day. And the food still taste just as good the next day. read more

First time ordering from here- I ordered the roast port fried rice (39), boneless spare ribs, and krab rangoons last night, 9/8. Everything was good until I noticed that the fried rice had a weird aftertaste. I stopped eating that but finished about 1/4 of the spare ribs and 4 krab rangoons. About 1.5 hours later my stomach started to hurt. I have ulcerative colitis so i know what a stomachache feels like, but this was torturous. Soon after I started having uncontrollable.... ejections from either end. I couldn't leave the bathroom all night. For reference, the food came around 10:15pm, I started getting sick around 11:30pm, and I could only crawl over to bed and knock out at 6am. $45 wasted. Don't order from here. Now i can't eat chinese food for the unforseeable future. read more

I am pregnant and all I wanted was enough chili paste for my LARGE order of vegetable Lo mein. They jip you on sauce and then charge you a $1 extra for the smallest container. It was quite annoying.. While the bourbon chicken was up to expectations, the pork spare ribs were basically red-colored tendons, not consumable meat. The battered-fried beef?...over-cooked and rubbery. This restaurant came across to me by one of my friends and he is a little ratatouille when it comes to food in Tallahassee. The staff always remembers your order every single time with no hesitation in suggesting more options, so if you are a "I order the same thing every time" type person, this place will not fail you. Huge plus there is absolutely no MSG!!! I usually order the orange chicken with pork fried rice, a side egg roll, and can't forget the hot and ready wonton soup. If you don't eat meat or specifically pork, there are many alternatives for vegetarians or vegans. There lunch special is also good because it comes to under $7 and you get a choice of a can soda or egg roll plus a choice of soup. Not bad for the price if you want a quick good lunch. You can also place your order over the phone in advance or order online and it will be ready within 15 minutes. Chinese take out or dine in experiences are a bit of a challenge for me. I grew up in just outside New York City on the train line in the Hudson Valley. We had access to really good Chinese restaurants. Add to that a Taiwanese sorority sister roommate in college who not only knew how to cook but could also order off menu for us in fluent Chinese at restaurants...well, let's just say that I am a bit jaded and skeptical when I enter a purportedly good Chinese establishment. I had visited Empire with friends one evening after a protracted happy hour at a nearby wine bar. I was starving and what we ordered was hot, fresh, and delicious. On my most recent visit, I was seeking a few comfort food items to get me through a long weekend battling some midwinter upper respiratory crud. The chicken and beef entrees I ordered were tasty and reheated well the next day. The hot and sour soup, however, did not have much flavor and was a sad disappointment. The crab rangoon hit the spot though it was not the best rendition I have ever had. The vegetable fried rice was not terrible - it just lacked flavor. A touch of ginger and a few dashes of a piquant savory sauce - such as an oyster sauce to augment the meager note of soy would have helped this dish. I wavered between a 2 and 3 for this place. They are nice, the food is okay, but my bar for Chinese is high and this spot does not quite hit it. read more
