Empire Garden is our go-to Chinese restaurant! The food is always fresh and absolutely delicious. It's a family-run place, and you can tell they really care. The two daughters keep everything running smoothly, taking care of the tables, takeout, and register, while Mom brings out the food and always checks on her customers. The restaurant is always spotless, and everyone is so friendly and welcoming. The only downside is there are no windows, so it feels a little dark inside. I noticed the Yelp reviews and decided to swing by the restaurant. Restaurant had a sign saying open for eat in and take out. Amazing! I went in and was greeted by a very friendly staff member., I assume the manager. I ordered take out and realized they have online ordering.. I will do that next time. Lunch special is amazing. Main entree, soup or egg roll, fried noodles and a candy. I was excited for the crunchy fried noodles because at my hometown it's an added option and not free. This is a nice extra vs a fortune cookie, The food was good.. cooked pretty well and decent portion for lunch. It was just enough food. We've been wanting a new chinese place and went to Empire Garden. It's in a strip mall but the interior looks nice and clean. My wife and I are vegetarians and there were several great entrees that we didn't have to ask for modifications on. Food came quickly and was nice and hot. Everything looked, smelled, and tasted fresh. We have had a rough time with other local chinese places, but we could tell the difference with Empire Garden's food right away. Prices were surprisingly good. Service was excellent. Empire Gardens is on the way to the GSMNP. Everyone going to the park through Maryville should plan to stop in. read more

The restaurant smelled like fish had been left out when we entered the restaurant. The dining area was small, but very clean. The server was attentive and fast. Pepsi products, and NO unsweet tea? (I'm a diabetic, who loves sweet tea, I normally load unsweet tea with Sweet & Low) I ordered Mongolian Chicken, egg drop soup, and a pork egg roll. My wife ordered Sesame Chicken, egg drop soup, and an egg roll. Soup came out first. Lots of corn starch in the soup. I like to crumble fried won tons in my soup, but these were like wood chips. Stale. The egg roll came next. Hot and crispy outside, soft and mushy inside. Tasted like it had been frozen. I was almost afraid to see what my entree was going to be like. My Mongolian Chicken was outstanding! Spicy and flavorful. A very generous portion! However, my wife's Sesame Chicken was a disappointment. It had crispy chicken nuggets served in an orange sauce that tasted a lot like catsup. I thought $42 was a fair price for the meal, and our server was worth a $10 tip. Good Asian food is an elusive category in Maryville, so when we spied this place, it was time to give it a go. It's a family run joint, whose members are friendly and attentive. As is the historic norm, dishes are served under seasoned and perhaps in a different manner than what left coast folks are used to. Egg drop and hot and sour soup were passable. General Tsos chicken was crunchy, Kung Pao chicken was different (asked for it extra hot, but, well...they tried), and it was ok. The best we had was the Beef Lo Mein, tender slices of beef with ok noodles. Again, the best dish of that night. Place seems to do a fair amount of takeout and has been around a bit. Worth checking out if you're in the area, but def not a destination spot. Again, nice folks running it. read more

Love that they offer vegan options! My family got sesame tofu, and a tofu hibachi with steamed white rice instead of fried. We substituted an eggroll, for a spring roll. Very good American-Chinese selection, delicious (if not very authentic) but limited Thai menu, and good Japanese hibachi-style dishes. EG is our office go-to when we want Asian. They serve one of the best hot & sour soups in the area, and totally crave-worthy Pad Thai (extra bean sprouts). I also love their Kung Pao shrimp, hibachi chicken, and Massaman curry (while missing the traditional potatoes, theirs is chock full of zucchini, broccoli, mushrooms, carrot, onion-- the sauce is excellent, ask for extra cashews, there's no upcharge!) I've only done take-out from EG. The interior of the restaurant is a bit disorganized but they've survived and bounced back nicely from the pandemic. Our food was ready exactly at the quoted time and it was hot & fresh. The sesame chicken was great! The teriyaki beef was tasty but was cut thicker than we prefer. The sweet & sour chicken was just battered chicken with sauce, and no veggies. We also had beef fried rice. Everything tasted great and was good quality. We were looking forward to trying this place out for a while. The employee who greeted us and served us was pleasant. It was not very busy and with that said the dining area should have been cleaner. I hate sitting down at a table that hasn't been at least wiped down with a towel. The food came out quickly and was just ok. The egg rolls were nice and crisp but had only cabbage in them and they were bland. My wife had the sweet and sour chicken and she enjoyed it. I had the General Tso chicken. It was ok but the "fried rice" that came with it was just rice and soy sauce. No vegetables or pork. Overall I was underwhelmed. I know times are tough for the hospitality industry right now but it seemed like they went "cheap" on everything. Just ordered takeout and it was absolutely horrible. $50 of food we ended up throwing away. None of us could stomach it and basically just ate rice and broccoli because we were starving. My staple for Chinese takeout in Maryville. The prices are really good and they give you large portions. My husband likes the sweet-and-sour chicken, which comes as fried chicken pieces which you dip into the sauce. I prefer the general TSO chicken or the sesame chicken for that Juicy chicken and iconic taste. My favorite item of all time is the fried chicken wings appetizer. If I ever had to have a last meal of my entire life, it would be that fried chicken. Service wise, I asked what was in a dish and the girl taking the order didn't know, didn't go ask, then guessed, and proceeded to ask if I wanted it anyway. We enjoyed Empire Garden last evening with friends. The atmosphere is very basic, terrible lighting and very little decor. That aside, the restaurant was delightful. The service was wonderful, the food was delicious and served very quickly. I loved the Hot and Sour soup, my favorite, and the steamed dumplings, my husband enjoyed the seafood platter.
