We had a LARGE networking group there today. It amazed me how our waiter handled us all (18+ maybe). Everyone had a different check snd there was not a single error with anyone's. I wanted something light and had thoughts of my pepper allergy, so I ordered the Wonton Soup with Crab Rangoons. The soup arrived hot and yummy, so much so that I ordered another bowl ! The Crab Rangoons were some of the best I have ever tasted, again warm and so pretty. My friend next to me enjoyed her soup and lunch of spicy cashew chicken with rice it did not disappoint. Very very good place to go for Chinese food. Service/waitress was exceptional, fast pleasant. It was kind of typical decore in the dining room, but it was clean and very well kept. The food was spectacular, probably the best I've had while living in Tn(moved here almost 5 yrs ago) . This was my favorite Chinese place until last week! First, my order of dumplings was wrong. I ordered half steamed half fried. Then the sesame chicken was covered with this thick, odd tasting brown syrupy stuff. Uneatable! After $33 for a dinner for two I ate the egg drop soup. My friend had the all dumplings because my three were supposed to be fried nor steamed. I called to discuss the issue but no one seemed concerned! I was looking for an alternative option and wanted to try something Asian. Being a Marylander and a globetrotter, I know a fair bit of cuisines and flavors. I ordered the lunch portion of chicken in hot garlic sauce and a chicken lo mein to go. The chicken in hot garlic sauce was so oily, and the taste was so bland. So I could even figure out the ingredients and it had oil, chili garlic oil, some diced chicken, some onion, some green peppers and very small quantity of water chestnuts...that's it maybe a little bit more of the store bought chilli garlic oil. This can be some kind of stir fry but definitely not a proper Chinese stir fry with fresh garlic. The chicken Lo mein was equally disgusting and disappointing. They even charge 3% admin fee to any credit card sales. Knoxville has some amazing Chinese restaurants but Tennesseans from Oak Ridge are possibly not exposed to other world cuisines and so the owner can let this run as a Chinese restaurant but this is not Chinese and the food is really bad. I am amazed how other people have given five stars to this pace but I won't personally recommend. read more

I have been here 5 times in the last month, mostly taking interns on going away lunches. This place never fails to impress me. Lunch service is amazing. No matter what protein you prefer, you must try the Mushroom and Black bean Sauce. It's slightly spicy but nothing that will make your mouth burn (people I've taken who do not like spicy food have liked the sauce). I've had it in everything they offer, good every time. Don't forget the hot and sour soup and egg roll with lunch. While the outside of the building is tame and blends in with its surroundings, the inside is colorful and I love looking at the massive painting on the wall. 5 stars, try it if you haven't! read more

**Review only on Chef's Menu, not on the normal usual menu** We came here because Authentic Chinese on Netflix said that this spot was one of them. And, for me I questioned it, but I came anyways when the SO said that we were going. I was thinking maybe I would be surprised and that it could possibly the best thing possible. One of her friends called and asked and well it was pretty much a blind meal as it was solely up to the Chef. We had 5 dishes at a price point of $88. Not bad, I guess. I would have paid more if the dishes had different ingredients to it. I was a bit disappointed when all the dishes came back, and it felt as if the chef held back. I'll go through what we had, which will be different if you ask for it as it's whatever the chef wants to cook. The dishes were pretty simple, and nothing too crazy and were served in family style portions. So first dish: Fish Soup. It was flavorful, and it had spiciness to it that gave it a kick. However, there wasn't as much fish as you would think. However, the flavor was definitely good and I looked forward to the next dish. Second: Cold Noodles with a Szechuan hot chili oil sauce. That wasn't too bad, the cold noodles were pretty simplistic, just sesame seeds and scallions covered over on top. There was absolutely no flavor if you just ate the noodles by itself, with the addition to the chili oil though was a different story. It wasn't hot as you would think it would, but it definitely had more of a flavor than just eating it by itself. Third: Salt and pepper egg plant. Just as you know salt and pepper, which was great. I thought this dish was probably overall the best dish out of the five that we had. Fourth: Vegetables with Chicken. At this point I was already losing it when the amount of veggies was so much. I thought there were going to be more dishes that contained meat. The ratio between the veggies to chicken was insane. It would have been a vegetarian's dream, but for me it didn't really cut it. Fifth: Stir fry of random ingredients with tofu, tripe, and other veggies. The flavor depth didn't change as much between the fourth and fifth dish. (I didn't take a picture of this, because it was really not that memorable.) I believe our party were saying that they could've made some of the dishes and I agree. Ultimately, I think our friend who called in to order for the chef's menu went in a little wrong. Granted, it's whatever the chef wants to cook and that's definitely appealing to me. I love that, especially when you're going to be the "Authentic" Chinese restaurant in town, I'm expecting something that would make me want to come back if I'm ever in the mood for Chinese. In my opinion though, you can just go to Asia Kitchen on Kingston Pike and get a more diverse set of dishes, but the service would be a little more lacking as it always is there. My experience was just okay. New China Palace was featured on Netflix and I wished that it was better. If it was, I think it would have made a bigger impact on me and this is only speaking about the dishes that were served that day (as this menu is never set). I would pay more for better dishes, but I guess the chef didn't know. I think if someone calls in maybe ask how much they are willing to spend so the chef doesn't have to think price point. I like the idea of calling and letting the Chef choose what to cook, but the dishes were just okay. I would think if someone calls in to just eat your food, the chef should knock it out of the park. I was very disappointed with the typically delicious egg drop soup today. It tasted like dish water. I reported it to our server who responded with "I am very busy today, what do you want me to do?" When the charge for the soup was still on my bill when presented with the check, I told her I was not going to pay for the soup. Picked up the General Tso's chicken with egg drop soup - Delish! Simple, quick, and perfect for lunch

It's an ornate place that is clean and well kept. The food is well, unusual. I ordered the prawn toast to start with. When it arrived it looked good and had an internal temperature of 2,000C at least. It is the first time in my life I have ever seen prawn toasts cooked in the deep fat fryer. They tasted of hot fat. The prawn mixture inside was nearly tasteless. Rushing them to the table is not a good move unless its caused by a lack of cooking staff. My Sichuan pork was sweet? Very very sweet and contained an uncooked brown sugar cube. Spicy yes, Sweet to the point of distraction. This was swimming in grease. By comparison, the egg fried rice was huge and expertly cooked. Overall I felt this was way too Americanised for my tastes but with so little competition locally it sees no reason to change a tried and true formula. Local rednecks love this place because its all they have ever been exposed to. Authentic is not a word I would use at any point during my visit. The leftovers provide a hearty lunch so at $18 it was not too bad on a cost/value viewpoint. There is plenty of ample parking. There are no chopsticks and you get a fork and a spoon, obviously knifes are in short supply or the food never needs one. That's handy if you have no teeth. read more

A dried grease covered salt shaker is what the waiter put on my table on my most recent visit. The sweet and sour chicken tasted of bad deep fryer oil and I had to spit it back out. I found chicken bone and ligament/tendon parts in my chicken as well. EEEwwww! My other meals here have been delicious so don't count this place out yet! I do love the wonton soup and fried crab rangoon with General Chao's Chicken or Sizzling Beef and Shrimp (my over all favorite). This place is, in my opinion, a nice pick for a dinner date for two. Obviously we decided to give this place a try. We wanted the authentic Szechuan menu, so one of us called the owner few days before to order from the "secret" menu. The owner told us that it will be chef's menu so we didn't know what we will eat until the food is in front of us. 4/5 people, we were served 5 dishes: - Fish soup - daikon, cilantro, fish, chili peppers - Salted fried eggplant - Cold noodles with sauce - chili sauce that you pour onto your noodles - Vegetable stirfry medley with chicken - Mix of everything - tofu skin, lotus root, tripe, beef, and some other vegetables We were not too impress with all the dishes. My husband and I had Thanksgiving dinner here with my parents, and we had absolutely AMAZING service and food! Our server was Megan, and she was so sweet and attentive! My parents are elderly and my dad is disabled, and Megan went above and beyond to Mage sure that they had everything they needed. The food here is amazing as well. I had the "house special", a mixture of chicken, beef, shrimp, and veggies, that was delicious! My husband had the gong bao chicken, which he loved except for the fact that it was more peanuts than chicken (literally half peanuts). I'm in town for work and craving Asian food so I literally just go to the first Chinese restaurant I could find for lunch. I see a sign on the door about ugly delicious (Netflix show) and my eyes go wide open. I've been a huge fan of David Chang before he became a thing. I was in a rush so didn't get to do any research about what to order and had to get back to work soon. I just ordered the kung pao lunch special- came with soup and egg roll for a total of $8. Price was great but food was blah. There was a million peanuts in my dish and barely any chicken. Apparently you have to call ahead and ask for the owner to make the Szechuan menu for you. I eat Szechuan a lot back in Houston but when I'm with a group of ppl.. Asian food is meant to eat family style and I am here in TN by myself. Right when I got home, I watched the episode again and realized it wasn't really a place that David Chang picked but more about the special guest's (who is from Knoxville) few Asian restaurants her family would go to. The food was good, we got good service but as we are having a great conversation the waitress asked us to leave because there was a party of 18 coming. It was a bit awkward but we left. We were saying goodbye to a friend who was moving. I'm not sure if we will return or not. I have never experienced that before. New to the area, this is the first time I have eaten food from this restaurant. I want to point out how wonderful the guy who took my phone order was. His helpful knowledge of the menu is spot on! He's kind and friendly too! I happily brought my order home with hopes of finding myself a great source for Chinese food! My car smelled so good on my drive home! I am disappointed at the large amount of un-chewable hard (crunchy) gristle in their beef. There were also seven or eight small pieces of bone in my entree that I had to keep picking out of my teeth. There were button mushrooms in my beef entree where there should have been straw mushrooms. Every other restaurant where I've eaten this entree has instead had straw mushrooms. Maybe this is New China Palace's spin on it? There was one slice of carrot, and one quarter-sized slice of water chestnut in my entire entree. Beef was the predominant ingredient, 1/3 of the beef was that gristle. Their fried rice came with my entree. I'm not positive if it was instant rice or not, but it certainly tasted like it could be. It didn't have the classic fried rice texture, smell or flavor whatsoever; it was extremely soft, and lightly yellowish. The only flavors I picked up on were salt and butter (and I swear it really tastes like instant rice!). It seems to me like their fried rice is boiled white (instant?) rice that has been salted, buttered, and has a tiny bit of scrambled egg added. There are no bean sprouts, spring onions, soy sauce, garlic, or anything fried rice typically contains. And it most definitely has not been fried. I truly wish I could give detailed ratings...I would definitely give their service 5 stars! As I had a carry out order, I didn't see their dining area at any length, but it looked tastefully decorated, so I would give the decor 5 stars. I would definitely give the food 1 star. I truly want to give them higher marks on the food, but I only had two things, and I am disappointed on both counts. I'm not that tough of a customer, I'm here to give an honest review of my only experience with this restaurant. Not sure why this place only has a 3 1/2 star rating, it was AMAZING! The decor was adorable, staff was extremely friendly (Trevor was our sever and he was fantastic), and all of the food we ordered was delicious. We had vegetable soup, egg rolls, sesame chicken and crispy orange beef; I'd recommended all of those dishes. I was so disappointed. A co-worker got lunch from here earlier this week and it looked fresh and smelled awesome. I stopped on my way home from work tonight for take-out. My husband ate some of his pepper steak which was bland & tough, didn't finish it & didn't want leftovers. My daughter ordered sesame chicken, which was dry & tough & the sauce was worse - inedible. I ordered the chicken with almonds - it looked uncooked (and like chunky vomit) & smelled so awful I couldn't even take a bite. $36 down the drain.
