This was my first experience here. I had high hopes since there are very few Chinese places in the Maryville/Alcoa area and they are so flavorless and over priced. Yelped Ming Tree before I left work and ordered take out when I arrived. The wait was about 15 min which is average. They do not have paper menus to take with for future ordering. There wasn't any sauce in the bag for my egg rolls. I ordered the shrimp w lobster sauce in the "brown" sauce as it is served in a clear sauce at this place. I ordered the garlic shrimp some wonton soup and egg rolls and veg lo mein. My bill was $60+. The food was pretty tasty although the wonton soup was very "clear" and had 2 wontons that were so small. This was not good at all and I asked for a large and received a pint. So there is that. The egg rolls were burnt and there wasn't much to those either. Plus I had to ask for the sauce. Now the shrimp w lobster sauce, the garlic shrimp and the lo mein were very tasty and of adequate portion for the price. I do think I will reorder from here on my way home in the future and try some other dishes. Ming Tree has the most flavor in their food in this area. So yay for that!!! read more

We decided to step out of our usual comfort zone of familiar local restaurants and try Ming Tree -- and we're glad we did! The first thing that stood out was how clean everything was, followed by the quick and friendly service that got us seated right away. The menu offered a great variety of choices. My wife ordered the Sweet and Sour Pork with Lo Mein, which included chicken, pork, and shrimp -- everything was fresh and full of flavor. I went with the General Chow's Chicken. The sauce was tasty without being too spicy, and the rice was perfectly cooked and fresh. I had my mind set on Orange Chicken, which they didn't have, but with so many other good options, it wasn't a problem. The prices are very reasonable and competitive with other local spots. Picked this one up on my way, as I was surprised to see a drive through window. First, I had the hot sour soup. Hot and sour soup can often have a really thick, tart taste but this one was well balanced. I didn't really enjoy the texture of the meat that was in it, mainly because I couldn't tell it was even shredded pork. I also had the Mongolian Chicken and Imperial Chicken dishes (didn't taste much of a difference between the two). Decent flavor all around but each dish only had a couple pieces of chicken each. Could also use something for a crunch factor, because the entirety of the dishes were a bit mushy. Overall, not a bad Chinese food restaurant, and one that I would return to, though flavors weren't really interesting enough to be memorable. read more

Pretty average Chinese food. The wonton soup had no green onions and very little meat in the wonton. Generals chicken typically has breading that is through milk wash first and then flour - this was more of a beer batter from a dredge. Very "meh". The sauce wasn't spicy and was too sweet. That's just being a bit nit picky. I'll probably pass next time - but there aren't too many decent Chinese places around. This one was a solid "meh". read more

The food was legitimately so bad I cried when I came home from this establishment. This is easily the worst meal I have had over the course of my life. They messed up white rice, scezuan sauce, shrimp and vegetables. I liked the wonton chips at the beginning of the meal it was great but that was legitimately the only edible thing I ate during my "stay" there. I told a server I did not enjoy my meal and they legitimately just walked away after I had told them. Please.... I beg you... do not eat here. My shrimp toast was burnt and I had an unknown charge on my bank card right after my order was charged. I called back to resolve the issue and was treated like a lunatic that didn't have proof of it on my bank printout. I offered to bring in a copy and was told I still wouldn't get my money back anyway since she didn't have a receipt for the charge. Well isn't that a convenient way to scam money off your customers. HORRIBLE food & service. Placed a togo order, woman who answers the phones took order and did not explain that they make things "differently" at this establishment. My order was simple; "shrimp chow mein & chicken fried rice" and she asked "lo-mein or chow mein" I confirmed "CHOW MEIN". Upon arriving home to begin eating my dinner, I noticed I received a shrimp veggie entree with NO noodles. I immediately called and she answered, I was certain they made a mistake because I confirmed my order with her. With no consideration and with a complete rude tone she says--"no, it's not wrong! that's why I asked you if either lo-mein or chow mein! There is no noodles in the chow mein, we do things differently here!" This information would have been helpful when I was placing my order!!! If you do something different and you have on the menu what you really aren't serving, why not explain that?!?! Instead they prefer to be misleading. "Mein" means noodles, so whether you order chicken chow mein or chicken lo mein, you'll end up with egg-enhanced wheat noodles on your plate--But NOT at Ming Tree!!! The fried rice was a 4 out 10 because the chicken was horrid and rubbery. The shrimp veggies was 5 out 10. read more

Single handedly the worst Chinese I've had yet. A bad impulse decision to say the least. Staff was nice but food was very overpriced for lunch specials. Spent $31 for 2 lunch combos and crab rangoon. Crab rangoon were okay. The general 'chow's chicken was literally sweet and sour chicken obviously cut up and thrown in the sauce. The portion size was s o small even for a lunch portion. The lo mein was overcooked and flavorless. Rice wasn't sticky white rice and was below mediocre sadly. The food and service were fantastic when a wonderful little family opened this place. No matter the time of day I went, they were always ready to serve a hot delicious meal. A Mexican person bought the place some time ago, and it has gone downhill quickly. The food quality could be better, often not hot, and the service? Well, let's say they don't like working there. I grabbed take out here the other night on the way home from the Uhaul facility. I called about twenty minutes before they closed (unaware) and the girl that took my order was friendly and seemed perfectly fine with me ordering that late. The main dishes were good but I will say the sauce was soupy and thin. The mushrooms and beef and eight treasure chicken tasted the same, just had a few different veggies. The flavor was good though. I wanted to have some food from a place other than fast food. This was the only place sounded yummy. Through that scary traffic I made it to this place. It also kind of looked sketchy. Then I walked in; this place was no fancy place. It was definitely not run by asians. As my hopes started to fade, i ordered ming tree fried rice. The person on the counter was rude. But, i got my food super fast. They only had one size which was a little annoying. Surprisingly the fried rice was yummy. I really enjoyed the flavors. We have been eating at Ming Tree every Sunday for the past 25 years or so! They have the highest quality Chinese food and the best Hot and Sour soup of any Chinese restaurant, anywhere! We travel a lot and I've never eaten better Chinese food than right here in our own back yard! When in another state eating Chinese, we always compare it to Ming Tree's food. The Thai menu is fantastic, not a bad dish on the list. I don't know why the Thai ingredients seem fresher and the sauces are more fragrant. The Chinese dishes are buffet grade and simply not worth it. But the Thai menu is a treat. read more

We'll I've gotta do an update. Just visited again today and it seems to be going downhill. While the service was ok, the breaded chicken...not so much. They've changed their chicken and it is now the dark meat nasty seconds. Full of fat and gristle. My son got the chicken tenders and they were the flash frozen Tyson chicken plus two "wings" that were so nasty that I wouldn't feed them to a stray dog. Very sad though because I really liked Ming Tree a lot. I also do not know if they have new owners, I didn't see any staff I recognized. Only one Asian working the register, the rest were Hispanic. Not that there is anything wrong with that, it just made ordering the Asian food more difficult for them to understand. read more

I thought Ming Tree Chinese Restaurant was a place to get authentic Chinese food but unfortunately it didn't meet my expectations. I went there with a few of my coworkers for lunch and they had lunch specials They have really good deals, I can say that and good portions as well plus complimentary fried wontons with two different dip as an appetizer. Also most of their lunch specials consists of a main entree with fried rice, soup and an eggroll. Service was great, too. The waiters were nice. They would pass by frequently and ask if we needed anything else, if the food was good, if we needed a refill, etc. Food came out quick as well. One of the fastest sit down lunches we had so far. There were a few disappointments though that bother me. One was the eggroll; it was Americanized from the type of wrap they used to make them. It's one of those thicker and bread-ier wraps; it made the experience a little less authentic. That didn't bother me too much though.The biggest disappointment was how all the beef and shrimp chow mein orders did not have the mein part (noodles). I never had a chow mein without the noodles, and chow mein literally means stir-fried noodles in Chinese. :( The mein-less chow mein came with the type of meat we ordered and cooked the same way as chow mein would've but without the mein noodles. However they did came with the fried rice, soup and eggroll as mentioned above. I was just a little sad and disappointed because I really wanted noodles that day.
