These were 3 big spring rolls with angus beef, pimento cheese, green onion and honey chili garlic aioli. The serving size was great for only $12. I honestly didn't even need a burger after but definitely will be back for the Cartel chorizo burger. My friend had the pork belly BLT which was not only a huge sandwich it looked amazing. Even on a chilly day this place was packed! It's definitely a place to be at with a group of friends. They have an upstairs and downstairs area. I got the empire burger which I was a bit skeptical about because it had cream cheese on it but to my surprise it was amazing! The only problem I had here was the GF bun, which I know usually falls apart but it got soggy and wasn't able to hold onto the burger, kind of ate it like a salad after! Not being much of a burger person, I've passed by Empire a million times, but never ventured in. But after picking a hungry friend up at the train station at 10pm, I was low on options that didn't include a drive-thru window. Thankfully, Empire was open. It was more crowded than I expected for 10pm on a Thurs. We went upstairs and were immediately seated though. Service was very friendly and very efficient. We had our food quickly. I ordered a Jane burger. They cooked my burger to medium as I requested and the pretzel bun was good. Fries were good. The burger itself was pretty bland though. If a burger is seasoned well, you don't need condiments. This burger needed condiments. It wasn't a bad meal by any means, but it could have at least used more salt. Coming from a person who doesn't even own a salt shaker. While I had water, he ordered a whiskey sour. As we were leaving, he told me that his drink was pretty strong and he was glad he only ordered one. I read a review that complained about weak drinks, but in his opinion, the drinks aren't weak. My husband and I went there late this afternoon, were seated and sat for twenty minutes and no one waited on us. We are elderly and were by far the oldest people in the place at that time. Everyone else was being waited on with smiles, but it appears that Empire discriminates against elderly people. Other wait staff and bus persons walked by seemingly unaware of our presence. We checked this place out for a late night dinner. It was kind of confusing on where we were suppose to wait until our party was called. They told us to wait at the bar up stairs but it was extremely crowded and no where to stand. Some of the employees were talking to each other about how we were just in the way. It made us really like we were an inconvenience to them and it was rude. Finally someone helped us out as it was our first time there. A serve offered to get us a drink while we waited. We were seated before we could order anything. Our waiter ended up being the nice waiter who offered to get us a drink as the bar was so crowded. They have a nice rooftop patio and a fun atmosphere but it was just too packed. Once seated we ordered drinks and food all which were okay. The service was extremely slow and it was hard for us to get the check. We just sat there with empty plates for about 10-15 minutes before our waiter came over with the check. For $15 anymore a burger should be decent. One whiskey sour drink ordered was $23. My brother called the whisky so I figured there'd be a bump over my girlfriends $13 drink but $23 for a drink at a casual Burgers and Beer place in suburban Illinois, well seems a little much. My girlfriend and I split the Jane burger cause we weren't tremendously hungry but at the end it was about $67 (food and tax). Add tip and we are at $80 for just 1 burger and 3 drinks. I guess that's what the dining world has evolved to, everything is pretty expensive. There was a 45 minute wait for a rooftop table, but there was a small rooftop bar where you could wait. We opted for this, while waiting on the entire party to show up. The drink menu was vast. I don't believe I've been to any restaurant or bar with such a diverse selection of spirits. The beer selection was significantly less diverse and the menu was very limited. Basically, they served burger and fries and a few fried appetizers. After all, they label themselves a burger bar, but I expected slightly more variety. The highlights are the drinks and the rooftop dining. Let's not forget location. It's located in downtown Naperville, in walking distance of other nearby restaurants, shops and bars. The lowlights are the limited food options. They do not accept reservations. No beer on tap. Service was slightly below average. Pricing for food is low to moderate. Pricing for liquor is moderate to high, especially if you prefer top shelf or high end brands. Overall, on a nice summer evening it wouldn't be a bad choice, especially if you like a decent burger and a craft beer in a can. Better still, if you have a palette for whisky and bourbon, this would be a great place to go to taste and try.
