Crunch wrap was nothing crazy but wasn't bad. I was pleasantly surprised with the salmon, it was not dry and had a nice sear to it. Dietary needs didn't allow me to eat the cheesesteak egg rolls or the Dorito dogs but heard they were good. Service was good, we had Kendra. Ambience was not bad for a pub. Had a late volleyball game on Thursday and we wanted to catch the second half of the Cubs vs. Brewers Game 4 at a local bar. Ellyn's was on our way home and ten of us swung in right around 9:30 PM. First impression was kind of weird as the bar was nearly empty for a really big playoff game and it being not too late on a Thursday night. We have 6 kids so a somewhat empty bar is usually preferable so when the kids get a little loud no one is complaining. They had only one server/bartender and she gave the impression right out of the gate that we were a total bother. Not sure if they were planning on closing early or what and we ruined that, but we definitely did not feel welcome. We ordered drinks and she informed us that the kitchen was closing and we had to order immediately. She stood there impatiently as we all scrambled to organize 4 adults and 6 kids orders. Not really a huge deal, I get that kitchens have a closing time. But the kicker was that the server completely forgot to put two of the meals in and when we caught it she informed us that it was "her bad" but the kitchen is closed. She offered chips and salsa to the two hungry individuals... lol The food that we did receive was good, no real complaint on meal quality. By 11:00 most of the bar had emptied out, but we wanted to hang out and finish the Cubs game. The server informed us that it was last call and we ordered our final round. We paid the bill and by this time it was probably 11:15. The next thing you know, the server and the last guy at the bar (I'm assuming her manager?) were turning off all of the televisions and putting chairs up. We still had drinks and the Cubs were batting in the bottom of the 8th inning. They announced to us that it was time to go. We asked if we could watch the last out of the bottom of the 8th inning and the guy turned the last TV that we were watching off and said no. I have over 10 years of service industry experience with more than half of that working behind a bar at places like this. I have never been made to feel less welcome than this lady and her co-worker made us feel. You can bet that we will never step foot in Ellyn's Tap again. After that experience, I understand why they were soooo slow. Advice to the owners... get rid of staff that chase a way customers. Experiences like ours will eventually put you out of business... We had a nice Friday date night at Ellyn's! Service was friendly and prompt, and all our food came out piping hot. I thought it was the perfect bar vibe. Not a dive and nothing too fancy. Looks like they do great carry out, too. Drink options were excellent and the menu was the perfect size. My chicken sandwich was pretty good. The chicken was huge and yummy - wished for a little bit more flavor in the "tangy" slaw. I think it needed a little more sauce or something. The amount of food was great; I did have to use a take home box! Highly recommend the pickles and curds shareable. Very tasty! We will come back to try more. read more

I made my way to the bar as they didn't have a hostess. I sat down and waited for the bartender to stop by and take my order. She had a bit of an attitude, but okay, I get it. She gave me the menu and I placed my order, which was 6 BBQ wings. She didn't ask if I wanted ranch with that or any veggies that come with that, but she did offer me some water, but then went to socialize with other patrons... It took forever and a day to get my food.... Probably a good 25 minutes after she entered my order... For 6 wings?! Really?! Why?! The place was pretty dead.... She did apologize for the wait though, half assed... I got home and the wings did come with 2 ranches, 2 pieces of celery and 2 pieces of carrots.... Okay.... So I tried the wings and they were okay, your typical pre-frozen kind, averagely made at best. I was expecting them to be a bit warmer by the time I got home, but not going to hold them responsible for that. I was expecting a lot more out of their wings and definitely out of their service... Traveling through the area and chose this place based on proximity to the highway, and oh wow what a find! Clean and comfortable, service was excellent and there's a decent beer list. From the servers recommendations we had the Italian Beef Egg Rolls, Pot Stickers and the braised beef potato scoops. Everything was delicious with the egg rolls taking the show. We were craving craft beers and bar food, been eyeing this place every time we shop at Pete's so finally got to stop by! It has cool, casual vibes with a lot of bar space, TV's, high tops and booths. Spinach artichoke dip - 2/5 stars The dip was extremely watery and pretty bland, but the chips were salty so I guess it was a good balance haha. I'd recommend skipping this. Burgatory - 3/5 Goat cheese, bacon, onion strings and lemon aioli, the combo itself was delicious! I love funky cheese like goat cheese, so this was great. It could have been 5 stars but I asked for medium rare and although it did come out pink, the texture was extremely off putting.. it was very mushy and soft, as if the patty was frozen and they just seared the outside really quickly, so the inside had no heat whatsoever lol. I'm down for medium rare or rare but this was weird. Their fries were alright. Fish & chips - 3/5 Simple fish and chips, can't go wrong. Nicely battered and fried, the tartar sauce wasn't too heavy. Best item of the meal! The service was ok. Our server got the drink order wrong and wasn't so friendly about it but oh well, that's alright. Hopefully it was just an off day for them. read more

I love this Family-owned business and especially that it is owned by a veteran. My family has been coming here for years, and my go to was always the Shrimp tacos! My last time in with a friend I tried a Burger. I highly recommend The Burgatory. Goat cheese on a burger- Who knew? It's drool-worthy. The other new addition I'm obsessed with is the Fried Pickles and Cheese curds appetizer. Why has no one else thought to combine these two before? And their homemade pie is unbeatable! Decent place. I have never really gone out in the Glenn Ellyn area, but met a friend there because it was half way between us. It's also pretty convenient as it's right off 355 highway and 38 is a major road. It's in a shopping complex with other stuff, but plenty of parking. I had a couple beers there, but if I remember correctly I got the cheese steak sandwich. Why I don't remember I don't know, but I think it was good. read more

Cool, little joint. We don't come through this area much but Ellyn's was on our pathway the other day after a vigorous game of disk golf. Suffice it to say we were chomping at the bit when we stopped in. The food menu offers a lot of ways to go and a little something for everyone. I couldn't say no to some street taco's and opted for the barbacoa beef which didn't disappoint. Their beer menu isn't large at about 15 or so choices, but they have some great, local choices that you won't see often including Mikerphone's 'Say Uhh' Imperial Stout which went great with the taco's. Getting off work way too late tonight I needed to find something to have for dinner and Ellyns came to mind! This made up for the long day at work. Caught the end of trivia which was fun. Their full menu offered too many choices and I ordered too much food. It hit the spot and I was able to finish it all The bartender made all this possible with some good suggestions on food and drinks (Mindy I think her name is). Kendra, one of the servers, also helped with some of my food and drink suggestions and was spot on - she also made some amazing song suggestions when trivia let out. In town for work. Ordered a good local craft beer that tasted fresh. Waitress said the fish fry was good so I had no worries ordering it. This seemed to be just frozen fish patties from a bag. It was soggy fish and not something I would not suggest unless you want the equivalent of a large fish stick. The fries were Ok--they had an interesting cut to them. We went to Ellyn's for a good burger and that's what we got. I had the blue cheese burger with applewood bacon, my love of my life at the cheddar burger. They were both cooked like we ordered and the sides were delicious too. They charge a $3 up fee for onion rings and you only get a handful. We ordered a Diet Coke and it was flat, so we ordered the ice tea and it was undistinguishable... yuck! We ended up with ice water.We started with the nachos as an appetizer and it was very good, but nothing to write home about. Came here for a night outing with friends. We were here to enjoy the trivia night featured. There's plenty of people that come here and have a great time. Love the parking lot and ease of access. The wings featured were great. I was overcharged on my drinks which really upset me. The vibe here and setting does feel lounge like and intimate which I like. Clean restrooms too. Some reviewers are full of it. Yes, their wings have gone up in price, but so have the price of wings. I used to pay $1.50 a lb. and now they are $3 a lb. that is a 100% increase. It's hard for a small business to reprint all their menus when a product suddenly suffers from massive price increases. The manager made it right. How can you Complain? Ellyn's Tap & Grill is a spot to visit if you've never been before. If you have been here before then I know you already agree! From the street, and upon first entering, it feels like it's going to be a straight up bar. But it is certainly more restaurant than bar (during the standard meal times, that is). There is ample seating, it's well lit, the staff is very friendly and accommodating, and the food is DELICIOUS! We've come here several times and each time we are not disappointed. The menu has a host of different items and they are all fantastic. In fact, you MUST get the Italian Beef Egg Rolls, they are to die for! And, no, I'm not exaggerating. The serving sizes are plentiful, all the food is served hot and tastes fresh (not like it's been sitting under a heat lamp for a while), and the prices are right where you'd expect them to be. Kid friendly, family friendly, bar fly friendly, this place welcomes all! So stop in and have a drink or a bite and don't be surprised that you don't want to leave.
