I had a basement flooding in my basement on Sept 8 midnight and I found it out the next day, my basement was 15 inches in water. On Sept 12, Tom came in and fixed the discharge pipe and rerouted the whole pipe system for me. He was very careful, skilled, and explained to me in great details why my flooding happened and how it should be fixed. I was highly pleased with Tom and his company and I wish I could have had him service my plumbing in the past years when I ran wildly for an excellent plumber. Empire plumbing was not so good. I won't have them back for any future work and cannot recommend. I called to get an estimate, after doing extensive research on my issue/problem. The work I was requesting was an exact match for a job pictured on their website in the gallery of photos and in the 'before and after' section. I had spoken to another company and received a verbal estimate prior to calling empire. I asked for an estimate for a well pressure tank replacement, and knew that includes the pressure switch and T "pack". Was told that there would be a $90 dollar "dispatch/estimate" fee and they could fit me in at the end of the week. I questioned why I needed to pay for an estimate when I knew the exact problem, and solution and offered to send pictures of the job. I also mentioned it was close to the same exact thing (job) shown on their website. The office person explained that every job is different and they, the technician/plumber, needed to put eyes on it for any quote and that costs the fee. I had also asked if I went ahead with the work, would the estimate fee be applied to the work, and I was shocked to hear the response of no.I thought it was strange but scheduled the visit, because I basically didn't have water and I already had one other quote. I was told the tech would be there between 730-830 on the day at the end of the week. I asked if they would call before arrival and was told yes. The following day, it didn't sit right with me that I was paying for an estimate when i knew exactly what I needed, so I called back to ask. I also asked if the tech would be bringing the parts (new tank) with him so he would come prepared in order to reduce the time spent if I went ahead with the work. Keep in mind, my house would have no water during the installation / tank replacement. I also asked what brand tank they use. The person that I spoke with was the same that booked my appointment, She said she would ask both questions and get back to me. she didn't call back the next day, so I gave it until the following day which was the day before the appointment. She said they couldn't waive the estimate fee but if I went with the work and since I was a new customer, they could try to do something. I woke up on the morning of the appointment, earlier than I normally do for work, had the area all cleaned and cleared the night prior and put my pets away close to their arrival time. I had gotten a text at 1 in the morning saying they were on their way? Time was ticking and 730 passed. I got a call from the office saying the tech was sent on an emergency call and so my appointment was bumped back to 10-12 arrival now, instead of the 730-830. So I immediately asked? I won't have to pay for the estimate, right? Being that my appointment got post-poned, I already knew the job, and that I had taken time off from work and had pets for this appointment that was made and confirmed early in the week. She agreed that if I went with them for the job, then they would ask the tech to waive the estimate fee. I got a text at 1053 saying 'on the way' and so I started getting ready again, for the 11-12 arrival. After 45 mins, still no arrival so I called the office. I figured that the text saying on the way, meant they were on the way, or close. I was told they were coming from previous job in Hudson. Okay fine but Hudson is 45 mins from where I live and it had been close to an hour since I got the text. Text was at 10:53 am saying on way. I called into office around 1135. They showed up at 12:17, 1 hour and 24 minutes after the "on the way" text AND late past the arrival window time for the 2nd time after the original postponement. The tech apologized and explained he worked the overnight shift the night before and explained why I got the "on the way" text the night before at 1 am. He had clicked the wrong job the night before. Okay fine. Mistakes happen. I wanted to give the benefit of the doubt and start fresh & positive. I explained symptoms and immediately said he didn't need to see it (examples or symptoms) that he would go to truck to write estimate. Came back a short time later with a fixed price. The price was high and wasn't based on hours of labor, and instead was a "fixed price" based on the job. Now that is exactly what I asked for over the phone and the office said they spoke to plumber, office manager, and owner and to tell me they can't do that. Strike 2 or 3 or 4... I had no water, I asked what tank brand they use and he said it varies they couldn't tell me. I had them do the work and it took many many hours, but not of work, of mostly waiting & standing around. They left and left me with 3 new problems. I pointed out the one I saw during the "checkout" and he said he didn't work there or touch that so it wasn't part of the work or responsibility and it absolutely 100% was. We have an air conditioner mounted in our family room wall. It vents directly to the outside and it is framed with wood trim. It makes a lot of noise, it looks ugly, and it is old... but it works. Still, I was looking for a company to replace it with a modern unit that would look better and operate quieter. The process would involve some woodworking to frame it into the wall as well as insulation and wiring, and because I didn't want to do that I called around to get some estimates. I called several companies but only E.S.P. said that they worked on A/C units mounted into walls. So, I scheduled an appointment for one of their techs to come to our house. While talking with their receptionist Amanda, she said that there was a flat $90 feet just to have the tech come and look at our situation. I at first told her I wasn't interested, but after calling three other companies and being told that they didn't work on in-wall A/C units I called Amanda back and confirmed the appointment. I should mention that the E.S.P. website has an offer for "Free estimates... call 1-518-622-4025" and I did but after talking to Logan I was told that in-wall A/C units require an in-person inspection and they cannot give estimates over the phone. Oh well... at least they were willing to work on my unit. Their two techs showed up on time and were very friendly. However, upon looking at the A/C unit he quickly said "Oh no, we don't work on those types of units. I guess when you said 'in wall' you really meant in the wall" (Duh!). I explained what I wanted and he said that if I purchased an A/C unit at a store E.S.P. would install it, but any carpentry and framing would need to be done by someone else. That didn't help me, so I prepared to part ways. However, he offered to quote us for a quasi-central air system and since he was there I agreed. He walked around, asked some questions about the house, and went back to his truck. I expected it would take a couple of minutes, but after (literally) 30 minutes I went out and asked him if the estimate was going to be free. He told me that it would cost me $90, at which point I showed him the computer print out from their website which said free estimates. I also explained the calls I had with Logan and Amanda, who said that I would be charged for estimates to replace the in-wall unit. I told the techs that I was willing to pay $90 for an in-wall estimate (which they wouldn't give), I was willing to accept a free estimate for a central a/c system (like their website offers), but I wasn't willing to pay $90 for anything else. I did offer to compromise and pay $50 for the central a/c system estimate. The tech said he would call Logan to confirm what was going on, but a minute or so later they drove off and I never saw them again. Through it all they were super friendly. They just wasted my time, and I still need a company to come and replace my A/C unit. read more

Called with a job to rehab 3 toilets (rest wax ring, new innards) and install new hose bib. Logan & Mike showed up 2 days later. Business model is a 'driveway' fee of $90 to scope the problems and charge by plumbing task versus per hour. Took about 4 hours for all. When replacing hose bib, they installed a proper adapter unlike the previous plumbing outfit. Two days later, I noticed a small leak around the base of one of the toilets which was due to weakening flooring that the toilet was bolted to. Logan & Mike were here the next day to reset the toilet with no additional charge. Very satisfied, very professional, Logan is now in charge of my plumbing! read more

I called Empire State Plumbing to fix a kitchen sink that continued to leak even after swapping out the faucet. After an inspection, the plumber Brian told me the issue was the strainer baskets, one of which was corroded and the other of which was on its way. We agreed to the replace both, and I paid nearly $600 for it--the cost of the repair and Empire's $89 service fee. Unlike other companies I have worked with, the service fee is not applied to the cost of the repairs. A week later, there was more water under the sink. I called Empire and they sent Brian back out. He stood by his work, claiming that the leak was a result of a second problem. And because this was a new problem causing the same leaking, and a new repair I would have to pay for the new repair, along with the $89 service fee. This seemed suspicious. They hadn't fixed the the initial problem and now were charging me to fix it anew, and charging me the service fee! I wound up calling a different plumber who diagnosed the issue; a pipe was not screwed in tightly. Literally, it was that simple. The plumbing lines were fine, the water on them was just condensation. The sink has not leaked since. This was the first time a repair company I used tried that did not apply the service fee to the work order, and the first company that charged me twice after an expensive repair they did, did not solve the problem. If you want a company that guarantees their work, I would look elsewhere. read more

I was out of state when water was dripping from the garage ceiling at the house in Loudonville, so I called Empire State pluming because of all the good reviews. They sent Victor to the property. Victor was fast and courteous. He communicated clearly on the phone and sent me pictures. However, the whole experience was like getting trapped and sinking as the charges mounted. I couldn't shake the feeling that I had been severely over charged. I will state what happened with pictures. Tell me what you think. 1) $89 dispatch fee, not sure if all plumbers charge that 2) Upon inspection the leak (photo 1), Victor said the leak was from the first floor bathroom water pipe and he needs to open the wall. $158 just to open the wall, I thought that wasn't too bad so I agreed. 3) before opening the wall, Victor said he smelled gas in the garage and it will be $99.99 to perform gas leak diagnose. Even though nobody had smelled gas in the garage, I thought it'd be serious and agreed to go ahead. Then he told me he used soap water found gas leak on an old gas pipe (see photo 2). Fear the severity of a gas, I asked him to fix it. In a couple of minutes, he was done and that was another $113.75. Do you think that gas leak was legit? 3) then Victor opened a small piece of wall in the first floor bedroom. He sent me picture (photo 3), then said that the leak was actually from the second floor bathroom 4) he went to second floor and opened another hole on the wall, then he said he needed to open the third hole (photo 4) just to reach the leaking pipe (photo 5) 5) the pipe joints are new as the bathroom was newly remodeled. Victor explained why the joints could have been leaking if not done correctly then he said fixing the joints would be $318.75. I kept ask him why it would be so expensive, he said he already gave my discount, normally would be more than $400. I complained that it sounded very high, he said that it would take an hour to replace that, labor is high. I thought of getting someone else there, or at least get a price comparison, but since I need to get the leak (water was dripping) fixed ASAP, I reluctantly agreed. In about 20 minutes, he was done (see photo 6). I said this didn't take as much time as he stated and he shouldn't have charged me over three hundred dollars. He said he also needed time to clean up. I didn't know cleaning up can be so expensive. I was charged total of $841.85 (photo 7) for a water leak, left with three holes in the walls. What do you think? read more

One of our showers only produced hot water and we needed a new stopper in a sink. After spending nearly 4 hours at the house, he put in a new stopper and determined he had the wrong part for the shower. He came back with the correct part several days later and spent about 10 minutes installing it . The bill exceeded $1100. A day later we had no hot water anyplace. In reply to owner: no other plumber charged me for an estimate, for starters. The plumber I have chosen found no reason to change out the copper. He did find that another 5 feet of cast iron waste pipe was cracked though. Even with work through the wall and underground, his estimate was less than half yours. PS your friends at Adirondack Basement said my walls were bowing and needed to be braced. Nope, a simple level on the walls showed they are not, and the cracks are hairlines in the mortar. There's underground water everywhere in this region, and a century-plus old home that has no standing water or visible seepage is in great shape. It just needs to be cleaned and painted with UGX or something similar. read more

I had my basement sewage pump clogged due to my guests negligence on April23 . I was told of the emergency around 11am. I called the Empire State and they were quick and prompt in arranging the emergency repair. The technician Dan and his pal came in around 6:30pm and did an excellent job to remove the clog. Called at 5:15 am for toilet /tub clogged. Was told they would get back soon ... had to call them at around 9:00 am. They said they would be there about noon ... called & said they were running late so around 3:00 pm - showed up at 3:45 pm -- so no toilets or running water all day !!! Charged $550 to snake the drain & reset the toilet because they couldn't snake from the trap. Snaked the lines & supposedly cleared the lines. One week later another clog - did they really clear the entire clog or just open it enough for some clearance but then clogged up again? Charged $199 dispatch fee to come back 9:00pm plus $232 ( supposedly that was $100 discount) to snake a clog at the trap - took total of 20 minutes. They stated this was a separate situation- not related to the clog one week prior . Haven't had a clogged drain in 10 years but 2 in one week??? Not really believing that ! The service tech arrived on time and was friendly enough but things did not go smoothly after that. Installation was problematic to say the least. $800 dollars and many hours later I went upstairs to look at my new sink and lo and behold it had detached itself from the wall at an odd angle and unusable. This was totally unacceptable. I called the company and to their credit, the owner operator came out and did the installation correctly and did not charge any additional fees to make it right. Called so they can snake my washer drain. Still charged me $89 diagnostic fee. After 1 1/2 he couldn't clear drain - then he decides to snake the main drain. Finally brought out a lump of "disposable wipes" . Left a significant mess and trashed three of my towels I had to give him b/c he didn't bring any and ended up scratching my washer. Come to find out he did not put sewer cap back on tight enough to main drain pipe and called back so he could tighten it - he couldn't - blamed worn threads and now says I have to replace full pipe - with an estimate to fix $800-$1,000. (side note - got second opinion from another plumber and he says the pipe is fine and does not need to be replaced.) Recommended as a short term fix to get some silicon and apply on cover until I can schedule an appointment b/c they were to busy the next few days. Had to tell him "don't you have any silicone in the truck to put on now?" Mumbles something about not his normal truck but goes out and pipes some silicone gel on the cover - we shall see if this holds but I will probably end up adding some later this evening. Similar thing happened in March 2019 when I used them. Came to fix a rusted cracked sewer pipe, they ended up breaking the T/elbow - had to drill into my concrete in order to fix - original estimate of around $300 ended up being closer to $1500. Steve, one of their Technicians, came when out kitchen sink wasn't draining. He called, gave me an estimated time and arrived when he said he would. He then assessed the problem and listened to what I said was going on and what I had tried when I tried to fix it on my own. He gave me the price upfront before starting the work. Once he started, he ran into a few snags but kept working until the issue was fixed and tested it several times before he left. He also clean any mess from the work he did and it was like he wasnt even here. Asked him a few questions about some heating/radiators that Empire doesn't work on and he was able to make a referral. Efficient, same day service. Problem with leaking washing machine valve resolved in less than two hours from my initial phone call.

The guy came fixed one this broke another thing and caused another leak. We got him to come back a few days later and they want to charge $300 to fix the leak that THEY CAUSED. They would not negotiate price at all, even though they new they caused the leek. They have terrible customer service and were just rude when we refused to pay for the damage caused by the plumber. We were willing to pay 50% and they even refused that. Don't ever use Empire State Plumbing they are unprofessional, don't care about their customers, and basically just scam artists. read more

Can't praise these folks enough! I'm a new homeowner and was disheartened to discover our basement smelled like sewer when we ran the dishwasher and washing machine. Additionally, our downstairs toilet and kitchen sink were not draining properly. We thought we had a major plumbing issue and were preparing ourselves to take out a loan to resolve it. Called up these folks and they sent us Steve. He should wear a cape because he saved the day. Turns out the problem was a combination of build up that was preventing the pump from running and shoddy work done by a previous plumber/handyperson who did not vent the pump properly. Steve resolved the problem, fixed the venting, and explained it all in a way I (a person with zero knowledge of plumbing) could understand. He also gave us tips about how we'll need to keep up maintenance on our system to prevent this from happening again. I could have hugged Steve when it came time to pay the bill. Completely affordable and did not require us to take out a loan. Additionally, Steve, in addition to being knowledgeable and doing great work, is incredibly personable. Arrived half an hour late, did not have parts to complete job, called to get parts and were not as discussed and told pvc was less cost And labor but then said my quote was the same if copper or pvc. Was told the other truck was en-route - never showed. When i called to see when they would arrive I was told I was being difficult and they would not be coming at all. I had a pipe burst over the weekend during the freeze and called first thing Monday morning. Sue on the phone was so sweet and helpful. She even called twice during the day to let me know that they were busy and would have to push the appt back a little, which I appreciated. Steve (who is awesome btw) showed up the same day, checked things out, broke it down for me and got right to work. When he was finished he explained everything he did and all of the associated charges (which were more reasonable than I had expected, first house and all). STAY AWAY FROM THESE PLUMBERS AT EMPIRE!!! They're unprofessional crooks. My pipes outside my house froze. They charged me $161 dollars to come out and diagnose the problem. They had no extension cords or anything with heat to defrost the pipes. I asked them just to replace the 100 ft pipe and they refused stating it was a temporary fix. They agreed to come back to jet out the lines, but then refused to come back. They claimed it was a temporary fix. They wanted to charge me another 1,100 dollars to wrap the pipe with heat tape and stand around while it defrosted. That's also a temporary fix and it could catch on fire. Then they refused to come back for three more days to even wrap the pipes if I agreed to the work. I contacted them to try and refund some of my money , but they refused. I give them zero stars, but this wouldn't post without clicking one star. I found a plumber who did what I asked and replaced the 100 ft pipe. The pipes, clamps, etc cost less then 80 dollars. The plumber fixed it in less then two hours and it was approximately 180 total. Empire Plumbers are nothing but unprofessional useless crooks!!!! read more

My garbage disposal went on the fritz, so based on reviews here, I called Empire. They were great! Steve came out the same day, and after figuring out my old disposal was was DOA, installed a new one that I purchased in case that wineglass down the disposal proved to be fatal. We called Empire State Plumbing on Oct. 26 because water was leaking through a light fixture in the kitchen ceiling. Steve was able to come within a couple hours and (together with my husband) diagnosed the problem as a leaking shower valve cartridge and trim in the second-floor bathroom; he knew the parts had a lifetime warranty, contacted the dealer and manufacturer, and ordered the replacement parts at no cost to us. The parts arrived late the following Friday, and Steve returned Monday morning to install them. I was most impressed with my first experience using Empire State Plumbing Inc. We needed a 50 gallon electric hot water heater replaced the day before the Fourth of July. I called that morning and spoke with Tom, the owner. After a discussion about my requirements Tom said he would check on the availability of the water heater and get back to me that morning. He called back less than a half hour later and quoted me a price which included installation of the new commercial grade water heater and removal of the old unit. The price was reasonable and I agreed to proceed with the installation. To my surprise and delight he was able to come over that same day at a time I was available.
