I had Empire install flooring in my home in November. I purchased flooring from them on a Thanksgiving special but the day before my flooring was to be installed they said they didn't have enough product for me. We ended up going with a different product. Ever since then the quality of this product has been deteriorating. When the light reflects off the boards, you can see the top layer bubbling, and cracking on the seams. I have had Empire out twice to replace boards, but today I found another bubble in a different room. I don't know if the quality of this particular board is the issue or the quality of material Empire works with. I tried emailing the company but got no response back. Not quite sure if they're tired of me, but I will never recommend this company to anyone if this is customer service and quality of material. read more

I recently had work done by empire and I want to formally express my dissatisfaction with the flooring installation recently completed at my home. I was charged over $1,100 for three steps, and the results do not meet the expectations set during my consultation with the salesperson The final product looks like vinyl plank rather than what was discussed. Furthermore, the quality of work is unacceptable, featuring transition bumps on the edges of the steps, visible scratches, and holes caused by staples. The installation process was also highly unprofessional. Despite having a morning appointment for which I took a day off work, the installers did not arrive until 4:00 PM and continued working until 8:00 PM. Upon arrival, the installer--who informed me he was actually a landscaping contractor--immediately asked if I wanted to reschedule. While a representative has since inspected the floor and offered to have it redone, I have no confidence in the quality of your contractors. I contracted with Empire because they could offer fast and complete installation of a product they assured me they had on-hand and ready to install. That was all a lie. And they have 0 accountability. My first clue that this company is happy to scam people should have been that they require 100% payment up front and then promise to "address any possible issues by coming back to fix it until you're happy". The sales guy Kevin True confirmed that the materials for my job were all available at the time we booked the appointment on Wed 4/23/25. Installation was set for Friday that week 04/25/25. But that was a lie to get me to sign the contract and pay over $16k. Something many consumers have experienced with them. Then Friday comes and the sub-contractors they sent are standing on my doorstep when Empire calls back to say, "Oops, our bad. We actually don't have the materials to complete your stairs but we can do everything else and come back next week for the rest." Fine. Only that was also a lie. Turns out the materials are actually on back order. When the sub-contractors leave, they leave the stairs in horrific condition with rusty staples sticking out from all angles on over a dozen stairs. We're ripping open our feet daily finding new staples and trying to remove them all ourselves. Frustrated, I call to speak to Finance and Customer Service about adjusting this bill since now we're going to be a minimum of 2 weeks out from the original contract date before they finish this job and our stairs are something out of Fear Factor. They tell me they can't do anything. Maybe they can discuss a discount or extremely minimal refund amount after the job is completely done-- get this--"because there could be other issues before we get to the end. We'd like to hope your materials come in in time for a May 10th install but we don't really know." So Amy the Seattle Customer Service manager runs the team like this. No more fake promises but absolutely no accountability. Go ahead and just call anyone off Angi's who can order your supplies and get the job done eventually for a better price. I will never purchase from Empire Carpet again. We replaced the downstairs carpet in our home, and some old guy salesman came out wreaking of cigarettes with his binder full of samples and sold us on their "top of the line" carpet that had a "built in filter" when you vacuum, blah blah blah. What a gimmick! It's by FAR the worst carpet I've ever owned. Within a year, it was fraying, matting, coming apart at the seams, feels like you are walking on concrete, and is impossible to clean without damaging it further. It is nothing as described and we are now replacing it with new flooring this week because I can't stand to look at it anymore. Also, when the salesman left, he gave us his PERSONAL business card and said to give him a call if we wanted to circumvent Abbey and get a discount by going through him instead. Buyer beware. I had a new floor put into my kitchen when I purchased my home in May of 2023. The floor started lifting about a month ago and I was told that it was out of service warranty and that they would not cover the floor. I contacted the MFG and was told that, they would not cover the floor also. It's been 2.5 years and they told me that the only thing they would is charge me to replace the whole floor. Since they are not able to get the same material. I paid over $ 1500.00 for this floor and have to replace it after 2 years. I had to have my floors redone twice. They were not put together correctly and kept coming undone. Causing the floor to bubble up there is absolutely no water damage as I had it inspected before and after by an independent contractor. Empire says it was the fault of the installer and that it was not covered under warranty. I told them they needed to be held to a higher degree of accountability and fix the problem, but they refused to. This is such terrible customer service. I can't believe it I will never use Empire again however, if they do come out and fix it free of charge and do a good job I will consider changing my review or at least updating it. read more

I chose Empire to replace carpet in a rental house, primarily because of price and schedule - they could install within a few days, allowing me to advertise and re-rent the property quickly. The install was nicely done, but the installers piled the old carpet in my driveway and left it behind. I called to complain and the company arranged to have it picked up, but not until 9 days after the install. This is unacceptable because I can't show a house with old carpet sitting in the driveway. Then on day 6, they cancelled the pick-up of the old carpet. Apparently the installer lied to their management and said it was not carpet that they had removed, when actually it was. I think what happened was that they ran out of room in the truck and did not want to bother coming back for my old carpet. So they mixed it in with refuse from another contractor and pretended it was his responsibility to dump it. I won't be ordering any more carpet from Empire. read more

I contacted the customer service desk and because I waited past their one year policy they wanted to charge me over $1000 to have it stretched plus they wanted me to move my own furniture. The whole experience from beginning to end has been horrible. Every single room and stairs had to be redone. Was pleased with Empire. They came out for a quote right away and were on time, they gave us several discounts and we love the outcome of the engineered hardwood they installed in our home office. The install was really quick, the installers were professional and cleaned up after themselves adequately. Empire was pricey but not as pricey as some of the smaller businesses we received quotes from. I typically don't like to use corporate services where possible but Empire saved us about $1000 on our project and it was worth it. read more

I usually check reviews when I hire any company but because I went through a third party sales, somehow I missed this step and boy, do I have deep regrets. The installer came with his middle school aged daughter to install carpeting on my stairs and hallway. I asked him to be extremely careful as we had literally just completed painting that area and spent a small fortune on the handrails. At first glance their work seemed fine although I thought it was really strange he brought his young daughter to help him. But after they left I saw multiple deep scratches on the handrail. I contacted the Empire customer service dept and he immediately said there's nothing they can do to help us and we should check out the fine print on page 9 of our contract. I said I would still like to see if there's any recourse and he said "I'll try to get my manager to possibly call you back when she's in." Why do I have a feeling nobody will be calling me back. Guess I should have read the reviews first. A friend had a good experience but, I guess they were lucky. My carpet installers barely had to move any furniture and they still managed to damage things, including the walls. When I pointed out the damage, his response was "I didn't do that". In the estimate, they list moving heavy and excessive furniture and existing carpet removal. When I had the carpet removed by someone else and yhe majority if the furniture moved, I asked if I could get a discount for that and they said "no, it's all included". The sales rep told me that they would move my washer/dryer. When the installers got here they said they would not move it. I had already taken the day of work and moved everything. So, I decided to just have them not do under the washer/dryer. They kinda had me over a barrel. I am a single woman. So, having my stuff moved for me was very important. If I had known they would not, I would have gone with someone else. When I asked if I could get a discount for them not doing what I was promised, they said.....you guessed it "NO!". Ridiculous. Beware of having linoleum installed by empire !! I was told when the sales rep came out he said one layer of linoleum is fine to leave on while putting on the new linoleum ! So the installers came out did exactly that and there was so many air bubbles that it looked awful installer came back out to fix it and took a utility knife to cut it and try and get the air bubbles out, but it did not work then he tried to seal the cut and it looks horrible the installer said it's because of the linoleum underneath the new one. So I called the company to let them know what's going on and they asked for pictures and said it was going to be in an investigation so I sent them and the next day someone called me and said that the installers were going to come out and try to fix it . Tell me how are they going to fix a cut in linoleum ???????? . I'm not happy with it. I expected linoleum put in professionally and it looks horrible. UP DATE on 23 rd they had the same installers come out. They check to see if they could fix it is not fixable. So empire called back to let me know that the same installers was coming out to fix it today which the people already did come out and she was laughing the whole time and I explained to her what was going on again and she laughed. I was annoyed and I asked her why she was laughing and she said it's a coincidence that they came out and now she's calling I told her it was not funny and I will never use empire again to install linoleum in any of my houses and I do not recommend them.!!! Shoddy work. The first group of installers was a third party company. They did a great job. They installed our hardwood floors in a timely manner. They were respectful of our home. 2nd group of installers were employees of Empire. They scratched up our brand new hardwood floors. They incorrectly reinstalled our toliet and caused a leak. The rep seemed annoyed when we asked for it to be fixed. We went almost a month without any transition. Everyone pointed fingers at the next group about who was supposed to install it. We went with Empire Today to install solid hardwood flooring throughout our entire home prior to our move in date. After getting multiple quotes, we chose them because the assured us that they could compete the job quickly and seamlessly. We informed them upfront that the timing was extremely important because we are holding off on movers delivering all of our belongings until the floors are completed. They have since completed only part of the floors (over 2 weeks ago) and have continued to push back the rest of the installation - FOR A MONTH - citing that "they are waiting for materials". Again, my entire family (including children) is living in a house with partial flooring and no belongings, due to this company's inability to keep their promise on a $50,000 project, which they had us pay for upfront. Today I received another email pushing back the date even further. I have made multiple phone calls, no one can give me answers or help. The managers in the installation department don't call back. The salesman who was supposed to be our "go to guy" for any questions keeps leading us on "I'm working on getting the product for you sooner" but I found out he has made no documentation in their system of our multiple communications. Now I cannot push our movers back any further so my belongings will be delivered before the installation is complete - it unclear when that will ever be. There is a 25% cancellation fee after three days. it seems to be their practice to make you wait past the three day limit and then you find out the salesmans samples don't look anything like what you thought you bought. For us, after several attempts to find a suitable laminate flooring material we gave up and canceled rather than to continue down this extremely disappointing and irritating path with Empire Today. we went $1000 out-of-pocket due to the cancellation fee. I wanted my flooring done quickly so I went with Empire. Instalation went okay and I love the flooring. I needed to replace a transition piece that my handyman had to remove to fix a stairway railing and it got broken. He told me to get the info from Empire and he would replace it.....then the trouble started. customer service contacted me this morning and after I told her what I needed, I was put on hold. she came back and told me that THEY would HAVE to fix it themselves and would charge me $250 because it wasn't a defect. When I told her I had already paid for the job to be completed and the handyman only needed the product, I was told, "that's not the way we do things here, we do the work, we don't sell materials for others to do the work". I reminded her that I paid $14,000 for the flooring and had already paid my handyman to fix the railing and I didn't think it was great customer service to gouge me $250 more for them to replace the broken transition piece when I had already paid for it. She was unmoved and said, "I'm sorry you feel that way, but that's not how we do it". when I told her I would have the transition piece color matched somewhere else and again told her how I felt about their customer service, she wished me a good day and hung up On me. It has been 1 year since we purchased our new flooring for our kitchen and as of today, we still have a mess ! From what I can gather, this is what I payed for: installers making major mistakes, only to come out to repair them over and over and a year later we still have a mess of a floor, materials stacked and left in our dining room for 2 months by the installers without asking us, no protection and then re-installed when they attempted their 3 rd repair which again failed - installers showing up with no notice - having to miss work on numerous Saturdays so floor can be repaired, only to have some reason they couldn't (wrong material, wrong diagnosis of floor problem) - not any apologies from anyone at Empire, only being made to feel as if this is all our fault- numerous tickets opened, and when no one showed or called , finding out out tickets were closed for some reason - calling and trying the chat on the website to just get someone to call me so I can discuss all of this, with no call. I can go on but I won't. This has been a nightmare and my job is on the line for me having to miss numerous Saturdays for nothing. You'll never hear from the salesperson again. Don't bother calling the salesperson with any problems. They are "one visit closers" trying to keep a manager off their backs. Installers are all sketchy sub-contractors that are not responsible for responding to any post-installation problems. I contacted Empire to have an estimate performed to replace some carpet in my downstairs living room as well as the stairway leading upstairs. I was set up with a two hour appointment window for 9/18 between 1 and 3pm. The day before I received notification that this appointment would have to be rescheduled, so I set it for the same time window two days later, on 9/20. One hour before the scheduled appointment, the estimator sent a text indicating that they were in training in Kent until 2pm but would try to arrive immediately afterwards, to which I responded affirmatively. When nobody called or arrived by 3:45pm I called Empire and informed them that Shawn from Empire Today had no showed. The woman said she would calle Shawn and put me on hold, which of course was immediately disconnected. I called back, and was told that Shawn informed the office that he had stopped by, but despite confirming my address he stated that he had gone to the wrong house. The woman on the phone indicated that, when they entered my address into Google Maps, it resolved to another house on my street?!?!? Not even sure what this means, but upshot is there are many other options for your flooring needs, and Empire Today should be considered somewhere at the very bottom of this very long list. I'll start off with some positives. The sale was quick and the date set to install was quicker. Everyone has been pleasant. They showed up about 4 hours later and ended up staying until 10pm at night. (We have 2 toddlers; they were banging and making noise until then) One of the projects was the flooring in our bathroom and the installers failed to put a correct seal on the toilet. This led to a category 3 flooding of our basement and bathroom. They asked us to have a plumber come out to look assess the situation, claiming they would reimburse for this. The plumber confirmed 1) the old wax ring was left off 2) it is ILLEGAL and not to code for someone that is not a licensed plumber to (re)install a toilet and 3) that when they removed the toilet they left it unplugged which basically was filling out home with sewer gases. (I am still waiting for Empire to acknowledge this verbal request for a plumber to assess and how/when they will be reimbursing for this) We had to call and email multiple times to finally get a, "go through your homeowners insurance" email. The giant corporation is making their third party installers go through their insurance as well which is completely unfair IMHO. Sure it was their work but it should have been part of the project to have a licensed plumber remove and reinstall the toilet. No direct phone numbers are ever given and you have to go through a mainline customer service for every.single.engagement. Even if your home is flooded with sewer water and you are trying to resolve the problem as quickly as possible. The 300 reviews are not lying. We should have known better and now we do. read more

We ordered a laminate installation floor installation from this company. the whole experience was a nightmare. the installation was very poor quality. The quality of the saw cut were poor from a dull blade, they used broken pieces. the floor was uneven and overall poor quality. they had to come back and redo it the next day. the quart round finishes were uneven angled cuts with awful gaps. Oliver all poor service and poor installation. the installer also damaged our dishwasher by raising it so high in the cabinet that the instrument panel pierced the instrument panel and ruined the dishwashe. Guy comes in, introduces himself and asks when we were moving in. Said sometime in the fall, we want to have the carpet changed before we move our furniture so it will be easier. He proceeds to ask about my schedule, who the primary decision-maker was and if was ready to pay a deposit so that he could get his guys to install the carpet this weekend... before he even shows me ANY carpet sample. Doesn't ask what kind of carpet I was thinking of, doesn't do any measurements in the bedrooms, just walked around talking me into making a decision because of the "deep" discounts to be had if I signed up today. On their website you can take a picture of your room and select flooring to see how it will look. NOT EVEN CLOSE. Salesman told us to not look at those pictures. Then why do they have this feature? It's deceptive. Then after the second go around we decided to cancel and go with someone else. Because of the clause in the contract they kept 25%! So they got $1,000 of our money FOR NOTHING. I should know to always check Yelp before engaging with any company for a significant amount of money. Empire Today was recommended to us by our Interior Designer since she had a previous client who had a good experience with them. But heresy is not a good way to choose a carpet contractor, and I learned the hard way. First off, the sales person that will come to your home to give you a quote is likely an independent contractor for Empire Today, which means they work on commission and in our case he was quite disconnected from the actual installation process and couldn't answer our specific installer questions. He also told us many things that the installer said were not true. This included the extent to which we needed to move items out of the area where we were having the carpets replaced, to the amount of time it would take to complete the installation. There was a HUGE disconnect between each player in the Empire Today ecosystem, which is a significant downside to this company. At the end of the day, there's nobody at this company that will take responsibility for any issue shall they arise. There essentially is ZERO accountability for the company to resolve your issues since each individual player can 'pass the buck' to the next un-empowered employee. In our case, we did all the prep work and took a day off of work in order to meet the requirements of our carpet install. The installer did show up on Friday morning, but then left without notice before doing any work. It took us an hour to contact someone at Empire Today to figure out what happened, and we were given the run-around as to how, what and why they were not committing to what we agreed upon. We then contacted their "customer support" department which is completely disconnected with the local installers. We talked to multiple support reps and no one knew what was happening or had any updates on our job, which rendered them almost useless. We persisted to get an answer, and finally located a rep who was willing to help reschedule our install. We only agreed since he was giving us a discount on the install, and ultimately we did have our carpets installed about a week later. Bottom-line: This company is not organized to effectively handle your issues as a customer since there's no accountability; the installers are extremely unprofessional and left my house without notice without finishing the job the first time around. read more

Didn't I review these guys already? Anyhoo... We contacted Empire Today to come out and bid on some flooring replacement. They called a time or two, to reschedule. Okay, conflicts. When the sales rep arrived, I wasn't home, but my wife was. No problem, she's the lead on the flooring replacement. She and the rep had a grand old time. A design and baseboards was picked out, scope of work was planned, contracts filled out, signed, and paid. Day of install: Empire called the day before and said they were pushing us out a day because the contractor was backed up(note: all installers are contractors). Contractor showed up on the date originally scheduled, at the original time. Two guys, one truck. I looked at the material list. It was obvious there was a breakdown in communication along the chain,, because the baseboards spec'd out in the contract were not on the materials list. Only some 1/4 round. The foreman said that's what he had so we'll have to take it up with Empire. Then the foreman told us he had prior work to finish off, so they unloaded and one guy stayed to get started. The foreman was gone 9 hours. Poor guy, no lunch, no help, no nothing. We bought him lunch and insisted he take a lunch break. The foreman returned and they both dug in to finish the job, sans baseboards. Took them 12 hours total, with one guy doing most of the work. At 9pm we were finally wrapping up. The contractor wanted me to sign a walk through and completion of work form that had no information filled out. I was exhausted and didn't quite grock what was going on until I was to sign a paper for "additional work" that was completely empty, including cost. I asked the contractor about the "extra work" and he said there was two layers of old flooring in one room. I insisted he write in the explanation. He said the guy at Empire wouldn't charge us for it (did I mention I didn't read any reviews on them until after they had started? Oops...), but I made sure to enter $0.00 in both columns before signing. Wrap up: After several days of calling Empire about obtaining the baseboards we spec'd and paid for, we finally gave up and figured we were going to have to suck it up and buy/install them ourselves. Two weeks later we got a call from the sales rep. The same crew came up the next day and installed the baseboards. Overall, we're happy with the final product. I requested a quote from Empire Today, only to find out that if I did not accept the quote right then and there that the price would go up by 10%. I already had two other places scheduled for a quote tomorrow, I'm sorry but when I need flooring for the whole house, that I already know is gonna cost me many thousands of $$, I'm gonna get more than one stinking quote, ffs! Who wouldn't? So just know that if you want a quote from these guys, get your other quotes lined up first because they'll use the strong-arm tactics to try to get you to sign.
