I arranged for waterproof vinyl flooring to be installed in our kitchen and guest bathroom adjoining our kitchen April/2022. My husband did all the demo and new sub-flooring. It cost just under $4,000. A few months after I lifted an area rug and noticed a board peeling where the board ended. Soon I noticed some more planks starting to peel all started at the end of a board. Additionally, there were finishing staples left sticking up on the threshold board which we continually caught our bare feet on causing our feet to bleed. I reported this immediately to Empire and after several attempts to get resolve including photos they offered to "repair" the floor for an additional $500. They blamed us for "dropping" something on the floor. I declined. Following this more boards started peeling all starting at the end of a board. I contacted Empire again to ask about the warranty and they responded by telling me this was the manufacturers offer. The materials used were low quality and misrepresented. The workmanship very poor. The companies response was the worst customer service I have experienced. I consider myself a fair judge of that since I handled Customer service for IBM. I recommend you use another vendor for your flooring needs. One that is fair in business, representation and customer service. I learned the hard way and will have to replace the entire flooring job to have a durable and high quality floor plus we lost just under $3800. I thought I wanted vinyl plank but since the area had no threat of moisture my salesperson steered me toward a nice looking laminate that coordinates beautifully with my hardwood floors elsewhere in my home and that was cheaper. This company is full of literally the most unprofessional, unhelpful people I have ever worked with. my sales rep was incompetent and sold me the wrong carpet (I have asbestos tiles on my floor, which I pointed out to him, and he still sold me carpet that uses tack strips saying it wouldn't be a problem. it was). when the installer got there (he was great btw but doesn't work for Empire Today, he is contracted out), he explained he couldn't install this carpet on tiles. my sales rep tried to blame me (somehow even though it was an in home edtimate) and then tried to charge me an extra 400$ to fix his mistake. finally we had a plan (so I thought) and now he won't return my calls or texts. because this company hires only contractors, there is no one to talk to. this is my 6th day of trying to get hold of the customer service manager in Seattle, and I keep getting rerouted to the call center in Texas. then the people in the call center say I need to talk to someone in Seattle. Empire Today owes me either new carpet, or $1,700 (they make you pay up front) and its looking more and more like I won't get either. please do yourself a favor and talk to anyone else. read more

This is the worst experience I have had in my 30 years as a Realtor. I represent a client in a Seattle condo. The owner is actually a Christian Charity. I got several bids for flooring from DOUGLAS at Empire Flooring. I met him twice to measure and pick from samples in his truck. He gave us a very low bid and we accepted. Then he literally disappeared. 2 months later after dozens of texts, calls & emails, he finally text, "hey ya floors will be installed Monday." He never showed up!! It was a joke to him. DOUGLAS is responsible for the owners, a charity, to put us back 2 months and at a cost of over $7,000 dollars. Empire is a RIP-Off!!! I have called, complained with no result! Please DON'T EVER USE EMPIRE FLOORS. They are the cheapest for a reason. DOUGLAS under bid, did not have the right underlayment and was $7k off 3 other bids. We purchased carpet and decided a day later that we wanted to go with a darker color. Doug our Sales guy came back to the house the next day and we picked out a new carpet and color for no additional change. Our install date remained unchanged in about three weeks. When the carpet guys arrived they had the wrong carpet. We got on the phone with empire and they said their system had no record of the change. A few hours later they indicated that they had failed to process the carpet change request but located the paperwork. We were able to get a new installation date within a week. Two days later we get a call from Empire and they say the carpet is more expensive and they need to charge 2K more but they will eat half the charge. At this point we canceled our order and are waiting for our deposit. I would not recommend Empire. I just wasted a month and new need to go find a new carpet Vendor. read more

I would give a rating of zero stars if I could. I'm unhappy with the professionalism of Empire. We just moved in our new home and we needed new carpet. Our entire house was to be done except the living room, dining room and upstairs hallway as those areas are hardwood. When they came to do the installation they only completed the downstairs. We were not told that it was going to be a two day project upfront. We ended up moving everything out of our kids bedrooms for no reason because of the lack of communication. I purchased new carpets, floor and shades from Empire. The salesman was professional the price was good. The installation of the carpeting was a nightmare. Despite the TV ads Empire is not a real brick and mortar company. No, its a 800 number and internet site that subcontracts its business to others! The installers want you to pay for the installation up front and ALSO TO CONFIRM IN WRITING THAT THE INSTALLATION IS COMPLETE at the time the team enters your home. In my case they did not finish the job and left. Since I had signed that the job was finished this group of third party installers disappeared and collected their installation fee. The Empire call center cheerfully called to ask me how I liked my "new carpet". "What new carpet?" said I, "Its not in yet!" "Oh yes it is." said Empire. Finally I got Empire to schedule another team. A new third party installer arrived to finish the job. Again they asked me to sign a document which gave them the right to charge my credit card for incremental fees. I refused, "I've already paid for the job". After much discussion the new installers tell me that they did not have sufficient carpeting for my job. Back to the phone. I called the service center, which kept asking me get off the phone and call someone else. Finally I got to Empire's customer relations center. "We will send a note to our suppliers in your areas, they will get back to you." My carpet is still not in. My credit card has been charged and paid. The bottom line on Empire; good prices, good selection; but beware. They start out amazing with customer service when it comes to the salesman. They seem genuine when talking to them. Don't fall for it. When the general contractor and his sons damaged some of my appliances, messed up on my base boards and did a sloppy job at instillation, I didn't hear from him which is not what I was promised by Kevin. She will blame you for their mistakes and lack of ensuring all paperwork is correct and signed prior to instillation. Initial carpet installation date was 10/4 and they were supposed to do 5 bedrooms, 5 closets, and a small linen closet. The installers noticed a bad seam which they pointed out to me; thankfully because it was a noticeable bad seam from the warehouse. They packed up and said they would be out the next day at 11am. The next day I had to call at 3pm to ask WTF? They told me they never planned to be out on Tuesday but instead Wednesday (which didn't work for me because I had other work). They came out Thursday but didn't bring enough carpet to finish all 5 rooms. Again the install team told me they would be back tomorrow first thing in the morning. Guess what? No show, no call again. I call in and I'm told they don't have any more of that carpet in AZ and the earliest it can come from CA is next Wednesday. Super disappointed with empire. There were a handful of problems with getting our floors in. First the seller had the wife and I feeling like everything was going to be ok but then it all went wrong. First he has his dog locked in his car and we didn't want the dog stuck in the car for hours so we said yes to let the dog out. Dog is unbehaved and made the process worse. Then He tells us with the floors we have we need extra material and it will cost extra for it. Fine we can deal with it. Then we talk about baseboards and trim. Seems fine. But once the installers came the next day all the problems come to light. Everything that the seller said wasn't true. First off he said the installers could do everything we wanted in a day. That did not happen because Brandon the seller did not put on everything we needed for the house. Also the extra trim and basedoards he said would come never did. He said the installers will cut the baseboard to size. Wrong the installers don't do that. The seller is completely incompetent and I feel like he's a professional scammer. For all the wait made us miss a day for work. All he did was take our 10k and run and we had to figure everything out again with the installers. The installers had to come a 2nd day due to not having everything that they needed to finish the job. We had used Empire for a carpet installation about 10 years ago and it was fantastic, but it has definitely changed. We had a sales guy named Eric Hannegan come out and this was clearly one of this first sales. He knew pretty much nothing about the carpet itself, the installation process, how the carpet would align, or about their window coverings that they also sell. However, he called his manager Eric Davis to get us a better price and we signed the contract to have it installed the following week. The install guys show up and immediately say they won't move the majority of our furniture we had out. This was a key component of signing that the sales guy charged us to move furniture and assured us they would be moving it all. We just needed to move the small stuff and unplug the electronics. So, we spent the next 2.5 hours disassembling 2 king and 2 sets of bunk beds, removing all items from dressers and tables, and moving side tables as the install team said they wouldn't do those either. The manager of the install team called me and was as rude and abrupt as can be; she called after we had been moving these items for an hour to tell us that the install team wouldn't be moving anything for us until we had disassembled it all, yada yada, which we already figured at that point. When the carpet was installed, it sat significantly below the baseboards, which we also checked with the sales guy prior to signing who assured us that the thicker pad would solve this problem. Empire assigns their installations to anyone with a van who shows up in the parking lot each morning. They are not employees of Empire. The first crew showed up at 10:00 am and promptly said they could not do the installation because they didn't know how to secure carpeting to the concrete in a room addition. But, while one installer kept me distracted the other kept insisting I let him use my "baño." They had been here less than 5 minutes. They suddenly left with no explanation. I spent the next two days trying to get anyone to take my call. I was personally insulted by the service coordinator David Lawrence, and largely dismissed by the customer service manager Ashley Bjorgum on July 6th and 7th, 2017. Also, please note, Empire goes to great lengths to combat negative reviews. They have been fighting to have my reviews removed on small technicalities for 4 years! Absolutely the worst experience I've ever had. DO NOT use this company. High pressure sales person who was there to sell a specific product and who also talked about my house being built in the 1930s (important to the outcome.) He had an issue with the exercise equipment to which I took care of. Workers arrived and dismantled my entire basement. Moved all the furniture out of the house, took electronics apart, pulled up all the carpet and then said they had to leave because some of the old tiles broke and in houses built before 1985 used an adhesive with asbestos so they would have to stop the project. That's it. They never mentioned it before taking the down payment, they didn't have anyone check before taking the job, they didn't check before destroying my basement and taking everything outside. What they did do is charge my credit card after removing the carpet and before telling me there was an issue. Maybe it was for the best because the quality of the carpet in the truck looked terrible with a thin pad attached to the rug. The install department made it my fault and would process my refund of over $7,500 in 14 days even though they charged my card immediately. read more

The sales rep had wanted half down, but I refused (thank goodness - read on). Both bids were comparable. Later that day, my wife asked me "What company did you hire for the Carpet Installation?" I told her, "Empire Today." She looked them up and said, "No way. They have horrible on-line reviews!" I had to agree with her. There were so many problems, that I figured there was no way I was going to invite them into my house. I called my sales rep within a week and cancelled the installation from Empire Today. I went with the other company. Even though I cancelled quickly, a very pushy customer service rep kept trying to get me to complete the install with their company. She was very annoying and I told her so. Empire refused to refund my $200 deposit. I explained that I had cancelled quickly, but it made no difference. I told them, "This is why you're getting horrible on-line reviews" but it didn't make any difference to them. They would rather keep the $200, and they don't care what customers or potential customers think of them. I strongly advise others to stay away. If you decide to let them make a bid, DON'T GIVE THEM ANY DEPOSIT MONEY! If you change your mind, they won't refund your money. I'm SO glad I didn't give them more than $200. Dishonest, pressuring and condescending. We found Empire Today through Angie's List, and asked them to come over to offer a quote for a bathroom flooring replacement project we had. They took a week longer than the other 2 contractors to come by (and they had to reschedule after we made the first appointment), but eventually the sales rep came over to look at the bathroom and give an estimate. While he was looking at the bathroom, he started asking about every possible extra thing that could be replaced, including the things we told him were fine. He kept insisting that our under-flooring needed to be replaced despite the professional water damage service company who looked at it (as well as all the other contractors who looked at it) saying otherwise. Whenever I told him I wanted to do my own research about whether the under-flooring needs to be replaced, he played it down and tried to pressure me into it and make fun of every other company that told me otherwise (including those who had no stake in the flooring repair). Eventually, he gave us a quote that he ensured us was "about $800 higher than it could be just to account for replacing the under-flooring, which the other contractors are ignoring, but he'd be happy to give back if it turns out it's not needed". I asked him for a break-down of the costs and he said he doesn't have one, only a cost for the whole project. I then asked him how much the project would cost without the under-flooring replacement, and Lo and Behold, he finds that breakdown that I had asked for, and it shows the under-flooring costs $250 (not $800 as previously mentioned). This made his quote more expensive than the others I had received. When I mentioned that, he started asking a long line of bombarding questions about what I knew about the other contractors, how they're probably gonna cause me problems later on and are under-bidding on this contract, and how they're the only company in the US who offers a warranty on their services. Whenever he asked me a question like "are they insured?" and I answered yes, he would look at me in a condescending way and ask "are you sure about that? better double-check that". By the end of the appointment, I could not wait until he got out of my house. He was being outright disrespectful and condescending, and it was clear by that point that he wasn't being honest about his pricing. He left me an Empire Today paper with their quote (just a single number estimate, including under-flooring work) without any itemized lines. To say I wish it was possible to leave negative stars is an understatement. I've never been treated more poorly than I have been for the last six months by Empire Today (Kent, WA). I signed a contract on April 30th to have 350 sqft. of flooring installed. In the beginning of the process, Empire was notified that this was a rental property & the importance of getting it done in a timely manner. Due to sales representative, Douglas Salazar, customer service manager Ashley Bjorgum, general managers James Adams and Michael Reynolds negligence, my flooring wasn't completely installed until October 8th. I was ignored throughout this whole ordeal by these representatives and Empire in general. These four individuals took zero responsibility and tried to pin the blame on me for a 2-3 day job taking 5 months to be fully completed. They weren't taking initiative in properly scheduling installation dates, and when they did schedule dates - the contractors weren't showing up! Empire failed to notify me of these occurrences & didn't reschedule contractors. It took weeks for me to get a hold of Ashley Bjorgum through emails, texts and phone calls after every incident. Given general manager Michael Reynolds and Ashley Bjorgum weren't willing to take full responsibility for a 2-3 day job turning into 5 months, I then decided to reach out to headquarters. I provided Bill Allivato, senior customer service manager, with a detailed 5-page letter as well as resolution letter, explaining the rental loss of over $9,000 due to their negligence. I expressed that I was willing to settle this matter outside of court if Empire was willing to waive the cost of the flooring, $5777.74 and keep the warranty intact. During my contact with Bill Allivato, it appeared as though he wasn't fully reading the detailed documents regarding my horrible experience the previous 5 months with Empire. Instead, like the rest of Empire representatives/management, he put the blame on me. He then made a low ball offer that I declined and then told me upon checking with his regional director that they weren't willing to go higher or meet my requests. Though I will continue with this matter in court, this message is to advise others to STAY AWAY from Empire, so as to not be in this predicament because Empire will not give a hoot about you or take responsibility for their employees actions. read more

Avoid Empire Today at all costs if you expect to have a warranty! I have laminate flooring from them that is supposed to have a lifetime warranty but after 6 years it is delaminating in multiple rooms and the laminate planks are also separating from each other. I cannot get anyone to respond from the Seattle office unless I reach out to the corporate office on Facebook. After a month of persistence (5 calls, 4 emails to the customer service manager in Seattle which were never responded to and 2 FB posts) I was finally able to speak to another customer service manager who told me based on 1 picture of the delamination she saw on FB my floors were not covered because it was water damage. Then she told me it could have been because of a dropped ice cube or visiting dog peeing in my house. After I explained that, that was not possible because the issues were in every room with laminate flooring. I was told that did not matter. I was then told I could provide pictures of damage from under furniture and they would consider reviewing the issue. I would have to provide pictures of planks from under furniture showing the same damage. After moving furniture and sending 3 additional emails of 15 pictures (which were not responded to) showing delamination and separating planks. I have now documented 36 separate issues across my house. So it's now been over a month, 7 emails that were not responded to. 4 calls to the 1800 number, 2 FB posts and 7 calls to the Seattle. So I continue to have the same problem with their scheduling. It took three days before they got it right. After I complained they offered a $200 credit and an apology. So far I have not seen the credit and three weeks have gone by. They said it would be in my account on the fifth business day. So they also lie. Currently dealing with Empire and felt the need to write my review now. I cancelled my order and was told by 3 employees I would receive my refund within 10-15 business days. After I was told I would receive my refund, I was called the next day by Markell M saying I would not be refunded. I explained what I was told and that we had until the following Wednesday to cancel and still am having issues. So far my sales rep seems to be working with me to get it resolved but I am feeling less and less confident by the day. DO NOT USE EMPIRE whatever you do. Try a local place and save your money. I wanted to get wood flooring in my home. Both main floor and basement. Called to get someone down for a free estimate. They guy came down was very nice looked over everything, took measurements and got us financing for the whole thing. Scheduled a time for me to get it done. Day before they were to setup I got everything moved off of the carpet. I get a call where they will schedule day of which was odd but ok fine. I get a call they will be there in 30 minutes. They show up and run some tests. My moisture level are too high to install wood flooring everywhere... I call to complain and the supervisor said their quote are not equipped to run those tests wasting two days. Now I have to move everything back without new flooring installed! Waste of time, money and poor customer service. Don't do business with them! read more

Yesterday I had a rep from Empire come to my house for an estimate. On arrival, I told him that I wanted our stairs carpeted because our dogs slide when they go up and down the hardwood stairs. He did not listen to me and kept suggesting that we put a "strip" of rug on each stair to match the trim. I finally just agreed with him so I could get through the estimate and get him gone. Then, I found out the estimate was a hefty 1,200 dollars, which was much higher than I expected. I told him I must check and approve with my fiance before I can confirm if we will move forward. This is when his demeanor immediately changed. He began explaining all of the reasons that I had to finalize with him today in a very pushy manner. He didn't even care if I canceled, he just needed me to finalize and would literally not take "no" for an answer. He even used the cancellation as a closing tactic, saying "you can just cancel it". It was so intense I felt like I must agree to get him gone. Oh, and there was a $20 cash fee in order for him to proceed with the "contracts" that I was just going to cancel anyways. He even demanded to know the color of the carpet we picked out to put on the contracts which we had not even decided yet BECAUSE IT WAS AN ESTIMATE. I sense he could tell I had reached the limit of my frustration and let the "color" go for now. So to get him gone, I filled out his contracts, knowing damn well I am going to cancel and never deal with Empire Today again. This was not an estimate, this was literally manipulating me into signing a contract. I was in high-pressure sales for 10 years of my life selling everything from cell phones to wireless automation - I can honestly say this was the most high-pressure sales situation I have ever experienced. Years ago, we had replaced our entire house carpets. Empire had three people came to install the carpets. Less than a year, the carpets were bubbled everywhere. We called them up to fix them. They fixed our bed room only. after then, the carpets were loosen up again, bubbles and waves everywhere. We found a contractor to fix them. The contractor said, this is criminal. The carpets were incorrectly installed. It is very dangerous to live in. He suggested we put the review up so people don't get into the same problem we have. read more

DONT BE LIKE ME! STAY AWAY FROM EMPIRE!!! I too was duped by this horrible company. First, they sent out Chris to give an estimate which was awesome. He was friendly, on time, and gave us a great quote. It was one of the most pleasant experiences I've had since remodeling my townhome. Then the installation part came, well, actually no, it didn't. They called me the morning of our installation and said they couldn't make it to my house. No reason, they just said they couldn't. I was a bit perturbed since I didn't schedule anything for that day so I could be here. Oh well, I called Chris, he apologized profusely and promised it wouldn't happen again. So I rescheduled. Three weeks later (the next available time that wasn't a workday) same thing happens. Empires installers are completely incompetent. They just lost out on $4,000+ all because they don't know how to keep a schedule. read more
